A 34-year-old Accenture software engineer from Mangaluru, Sharmila, was found dead in her Ramamurthy Nagar apartment on January 3, 2026, after a fire broke out around 10:30 PM. Initially ruled as suffocation from smoke inhalation with no foul play suspected, postmortem revealed pre-fire injuries including hand wounds and smothering marks inconsistent with burns.
