Niger Crisis: African Union distances itself from ECOWAS

The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council has resolved to oppose the use of military force in Niger after a lengthy and tense meeting. The AU is at differences with ECOWAS on this choice, which should have been ratified last week. ECOWAS chose to immediately deploy its standby forces in preparation for a potential military intervention.
