<p>A fire alarm was pulled by Socialist Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Cannon House Office Building on Saturday (Sep 30), just before the House was about to vote on the crucial government funding bill, an incident which the New York Democrat called an 'accident'.<br />

House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil, who is a Republican from Wisconsin, revealed the incident in a statement adding that an investigation is underway.<br />

<p>The water was collected from mountains at the summit and foot of Mount Fuji and the summit of Mount Tanzawa-Oyama, west of Yokohama in Kanagawa prefecture.</p>

<p>"To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on airborne microplastics in cloud water," the authors wrote in their research paper.</p>

<p>Microplastics can cause severe damage to climate and the human body if their presence in clouds is not contained through coordinated efforts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If the issue of 'plastic air pollution' is not addressed proactively, climate change and ecological risks may become a reality, causing irreversible and serious environmental damage in the future," lead author Hiroshi Okochi of Waseda University warned in a statement Wednesday.</p>

Private luxury canine air travel faces backlash from climate activists

The police had earlier arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of criminal damage to the Sycamore Gap tree, however, he was later released on bail.</p>

Although another arrest has been made, this investigation is still in the early stages, and we would continue to encourage any members of the public with information which may assist to get in touch,” he added.</p>

<p>Scientists said that the sandals found buried in a bat cave in southern Spain are likely to be the oldest footwear ever found in Europe, adding that they appeared to be 6,200 years old.<br />

In an article published in Science Advances journal, a team examining the items said that the sandals, tools and baskets, which belonged to the 19th century, were found at a hunter-gatherer burial site in the Cueva de los Murciélagos, also known as “cave of the bats,” close the southern city of Granada. They added that after examining the items discovered, they were found to be much older than previously thought.<br />

Radiocarbon dating was used by the study to date 76 items, which included 22 sandals and baskets made from esparto which is a type of grass used in crafts for thousands of years across North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula.<br />
<br />
The grass was crushed by the ancient humans to make twine to braid sandals, bags and sandals. For 20 to 30 days, the grass was dried up before it was rehydrated for 24 hours to make it pliable, which is a skilled and complex process.</p>

“The quality and technological complexity of the basketry makes us question the simplistic assumptions we have about human communities prior to the arrival of agriculture in southern Europe,” said Francisco Martinez Sevilla, the study's leader, in a press release.<br />

Martinez Sevilla, who hails from the University of Alcala in Spain, stated that the Cueva de los Murcielagos was a “unique site in Europe to study the organic materials of prehistoric populations.”</p>

<p>The sandals do not have any laces, but some have a single braid which is fixed to the middle and can be tied around the ankle of the wearer. Similar sandals were discovered across Europe in later periods, but they were made using other materials and not just grass.<br />

“This sandal set therefore represents the earliest and widest-ranging assemblage of prehistoric footwear, both in the Iberian peninsula and in Europe, unparalleled at other latitudes,” stated the study.</p>

<p>Climbing 50 stairs a day can help keep doctors away, a new study has revealed. According to research published in the journal Atherosclerosis, ascending more than five flights of stairs (50 steps) every day can reduce the risk of heart-related diseases by 20 per cent.</p>

<p>The ailments include coronary artery disease or stroke.</p>

<p>“Short bursts of high-intensity stair climbing are a time-efficient way to improve cardiorespiratory fitness,” study co-author Dr Lu Qi, a professor at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, said in a news release.</p>

<p>“These findings highlight the potential advantages of stair climbing as a primary preventive measure” for cardiovascular disease, Qi added.</p>

<h2><strong>A city sitting atop ancient glacier that is now retreating </strong></h2>

<p>The researchers found that from 2016 to 2023, LaGuardia’s runways and Arthur Ashe Stadium was sinking at 3.7 and 4.6 millimetres per year, respectively.</p>

<p>While the whole city is sinking under the weight of skyscrapers, the newly identified hotspots are dipping because they sit atop an ancient glacier that is retreating.</p>

<p>And this is happening because of dual factors—natural and human, the study noted.</p>

<p>The ancient glacier covered most of New England about 24,000 years ago, and a wall of ice more than a mile high covered what is today Albany in upstate New York.</p>

<h2><strong>Some areas are getting uplifted </strong></h2>

<p>Interestingly, the team also found areas which are moving up.</p>

<p>East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Woodside, Queens areas were found to be rising by about 1.6 mm and 6.9 mm per year respectively.</p>

<p>The study’s co-author Robert Kopp of Rutgers University believe that groundwater pumping and injection wells used to treat polluted water may have played a role in the uplift of these areas, but added that further investigation is needed.</p>

<p>A rescued alligator that lost its&nbsp;&nbsp;top half jawline&nbsp;has been officially named "Jawlene", the park in Florida, US announced.&nbsp;The name is inspired by country music hit, Dolly Parton's 1973 song "Jolene."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a video posted by Gatorland, the park that rescued it, the staff announced the new name to the female alligator.</p>

<p>The CEO further shared a milestone achieved by the gator by eating two mice completely on her own.</p>

<p>The gator continues to receive treatment in isolation from the other animals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He has now been ordered to pay the state government approximately $10,000 for the 200 hours of police work. Justice comes with a hefty price tag, he has learned.</p>

<p>The lawsuit states they paid $12.99 for a combo meal but did not receive the curly fries they had ordered, sparking a heated argument.</p>

<p>The Ramos family initiated the lawsuit in 2022. Initially, Ford was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of deadly conduct and received a sentence of one year deferred adjudication, which she successfully completed in June, according to court records.</p>

<p>Driving the car was Ramos, with his wife occupying the front passenger seat, and their daughter nestled in the back.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thomas Frazer was another interviewee, who had been imprisoned for 21 years for blinding a man by stabbing him in the eye with a bottle.</p>

<p>A TikTok account with the username hmp5starchef often posts food vlogs, where an anonymous prisoner showcases his cooking skills using the prison kettle.</p>

<p>One of these channels was started by David Navarro in 2019, when he was nearing the end of his 10-year sentence. He started by asking other cellmates about the worst thing they have ever experienced in jail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I started the channel because I was fed up with the mainstream media’s false narrative about prison life. I had watched enough prison documentaries to know that before the cameras arrive they have the cleaners doing a crazy clean, and they only let ‘enhanced’ prisoners out of their cell. They want to make it look cushy,” he was quoted as saying by the Guardian.</p>

<p>A video of the incident that went viral on Tuesday (Sept 27) purportedly showed the black bear munching on their enchiladas, salsa, tacos and French fries, while a woman and her child sat silently, seemingly terrified of the animal’s presence.</p>

<p>The clip further goes on to show the woman shielding her kid’s face as they both sit perfectly still, while another person (unsuccessfully) tries to attract the bear's attention.</p>

<p>After finishing its meal, the animal sets off, apparently unaware of the fear it has caused.</p>

<p>According to AP news agency, the woman in the video is Silvia Macía who travelled to the park to celebrate her son Santiago’s 15th birthday, who has Down syndrome.</p>

<p>“Santiago is very afraid of animals, a cat or a dog, any animal scares him a lot,” she was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>A 33-year-old man in Chicago was violently beaten and robbed by two men in broad daylight on Monday, September 25.</p>

<p>A CCTV footage recorded the whole incident. It showed the victim walking down a residential alleyway in Bucktown in the afternoon while eating a slice of pizza when&nbsp;two men ran up to him from behind and attacked him with a punch to his head. As soon as he fell next to the chain-link fence, the attackers began to rain blows on him with their fists and feet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The victim screamed and tried to resist. However, the fight split across the alley. He managed to bring one of the attackers to the ground&nbsp;but the other began stomping him with his feet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A car across the street blared its horn to warn and distract the attackers. Eventually, they snatched the victim's bag and cell phone and delivered a violent stomp before walking away calmly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was first said to be discovered by Dutch businessman and sailor Abel Tasman in 1642, who was desperate to uncover the "Great Southern Continent".</p>

<p>However, he was unable to find the approximate location. It wasn’t until 2017 that geologists discovered that the continent had been hiding in plain sight all along.</p>

<p>Now on Tuesday, an international team of geologists and seismologists published a refined map of Zealandia in the journal ‘Tectonics’.</p>

<p>They were able to presume its form and structure by using the data obtained from dredged rock samples recovered from the ocean floor.</p>

<p>They came to the conclusion by studying the geologic patterns in West Antarctica which then led them to understand the possibility of a subduction zone near the Campbell Plateau off the west coast of New Zealand.</p>

<p>The researchers refined the existing maps of Zealandia by studying collections of rocks and sediment samples brought up from the ocean bed. While most of these samples came from drilling sites, others came from the shores of islands in the area.</p>

<p>The geologists at New Zealand Crown Research Institute GNS Science admitted that though most of the newfound continent is underwater, it took time for something "very obvious" to be uncovered.</p>

<p>"[It's] a process which we don't completely understand yet, Zealandia started to be pulled away," Tulloch explained, indy100.com reported.</p>

<p>They further said that they are trying to figure out when did Zealandia started to “pull away” from the supercontinent Gondwana, which included most of Western Antarctica and Eastern Australia, over 500 million years ago.</p>

<p>Rubio, an active-duty Army physician and NASA astronaut, is part of the US&nbsp;Army Space and Missile Defence Command's Army Astronaut Detachment.</p>

<p>Originally slated for a six-month mission on the ISS, Rubio's stay was extended due to the discovery and subsequent investigation of a coolant leak on the spacecraft.</p>

<p>He recently spoke with the media about his groundbreaking mission while aboard the International Space Station.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The hidden cave has been revealed at a time when water levels of the popular lake have been falling for months as an effect of the severe drought that has gripped&nbsp;the state.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Canyon Lake</strong></h2>

<p>Canyon Lake is a reservoir on the Guadalupe River situated in Comal County in Texas. &nbsp;It was built to help with flood control and water conservation. The construction of the dam started in 1958 and finished in 1964.</p>

<p>The lake was filled up to the conservation pool level by 1968 and hit its lowest point in recorded history in late August.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As of Tuesday, Canyon Lake was 65.7 per cent full, a 20 per cent fall from this time a year ago, according to a report by Water Data for Texas.</p>

<h2><strong>Hidden caves found a Canyon Lake</strong></h2>

<p>Last weekend, when Canyon Lake resident Pamela Hough Gilbert was out enjoying at the reservoir with her husband, she saw an exposed cave in an area of the lake known as “party cove.”</p>

<p>“I’ve heard rumours about underwater caves in Canyon Lake for 40 years or more. It was just so cool to finally see one materialize,” Gilbert told KSAT on Tuesday. “Canyon Lake has lots of secrets.”</p>

<p>Despite being a fascinating discovery, the cave also evoked a creepy feeling, and Gilbert said she refrained from venturing inside.</p>

<p>Caves aren't the only thing hiding beneath Canyon Lake's surface, as divers have previously discovered entire towns at the bottom of the lake. The reservoir is managed by the US&nbsp;Army Corps of Engineers. It's not uncommon for manmade lakes to be filled over existing structures or geological features, whether that be towns, caves or trees.</p>

<p>However, as the water levels fall, exposed objects can pose a risk for boaters. Roughly 100 miles northeast of Canyon Lake, another popular Texas lake is experiencing similar issues. Officials have warned boaters and swimmers to exercise caution when in the lake.</p>
