<p>Canyon Lake is a reservoir on the Guadalupe River situated in Comal County in Texas. &nbsp;It was built to help with flood control and water conservation. The construction of the dam started in 1958 and finished in 1964.</p>

<p>Caves aren't the only thing hiding beneath Canyon Lake's surface, as divers have previously discovered entire towns at the bottom of the lake. The reservoir is managed by the US&nbsp;Army Corps of Engineers. It's not uncommon for manmade lakes to be filled over existing structures or geological features, whether that be towns, caves or trees.</p>

<p>However, as the water levels fall, exposed objects can pose a risk for boaters. Roughly 100 miles northeast of Canyon Lake, another popular Texas lake is experiencing similar issues. Officials have warned boaters and swimmers to exercise caution when in the lake.</p>

<p>"She almost lost her life. She was on a respirator. They put her into a medically induced coma. Her fingers were black, her feet were black, and her bottom lip was black. She had complete sepsis, and her kidneys were failing."</p>

<p>Dr Natasha Spottiswoode, a disease expert told KRON, "The ways you can get infected with this bacteria are, one, you can eat something that's contaminated with it [and] the other way is by having a cut or tattoo exposed to water in which this bug lives."</p>

<p>The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in early September issued a health advisory and warning related to the increase in Vibrio vulnificus bacterial infection in the US due to increasing water temperatures.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The health organisation said people can develop this illness due to infected or uncooked seafood.</p>

<p>A woman in the Oregon state of the USA has been sentenced to 30 days in prison after it came to light she had waterboarded her infant son and placed him in a freezer in 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The woman, identified as 30-year-old&nbsp;Sharday McDonald, committed the rather gruesome act on the little baby to see if the child's father would notice.</p>

<p>The baby's mistreatment was&nbsp;discovered during a welfare check by the police on October 28, 2021.</p>

<p>McDonald pleaded guilty to charges of criminal mistreatment, ID theft, and tampering with a witness after changing her original not-guilty plea entered on November 19, 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to court filings presented at the&nbsp;Multnomah County Detention Center,&nbsp;McDonald will be released on October 6 after serving her 30-day sentence.</p>

<p>Upon being arrested by the authorities, she said that her actions against the baby were done as a "test" to see if Neal "gave a f--k at all".</p>

According to court filings presented at the Multnomah County Detention Center, McDonald will be released on October 6 after serving her 30-day sentence. The creature whose appearance was described as “ghostly” was seen swimming around 2,665 metres (8,743 feet) deep above the researchers’ ROV Little Hercules, about 20 metres from the sea floor.</p>

<p>The octopus’ appearance is similar to that of the title character of the 1941 Disney film ‘Dumbo’ was seen using its ear-like fins to swim on an EVNautilus live stream which was happening in the waters around Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument (PMNM) in the north Pacific Ocean.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The sea creature was spotted by the Corps of Exploration team hovering above ROV Little Hercules.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The video of the rare sea creature was posted on EVNautilus’ Youtube page with the caption, “Spooky season is almost upon us, and it seems like this Dumbo Octopus was getting in the mood by reflecting light from our technology.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, “Watch as this fan-favourite deep sea creature hovers delicately in front of our camera, reminding us of the beauty of this special place.”<br />

The Dansk Sprognævn (the Danish Language Council) is carrying out the first review in 12 years in which it has embarked on creating a new edition which is focused on gender equality and making words and descriptions less stereotyped and more gender neutral.</p>

The Dutch word 'finansmand' for financier also has a female equivalent, which has been termed finanskvinde. Also, the gendered word for trader, handelsmand, was joined by handelskvinde, which has been translated as female trader.<br />

The gendered example phrases which will be chucked out from the dictionary's new edition are pigerne fjantede rundt (the girls fooled around) and han er anklaget for uagtsomt manddrab (he is accused of negligent manslaughter).</p>

<p>Senior researcher at the language council Margrethe Heidemann Andersen was among the three editors who scanned the current dictionary to look for sexist inclusions and omissions.<br />

“We have made lists of all words that end in -man and -woman and then reviewed them one by one to see if we should create a counterpart with the endings -woman, -man or possibly -person,” she said while speaking to the Danish public broadcaster DR.</p>

<p>In what seems to be straight out of a horror movie, Mexican authorities apprehended a sinister Chucky doll, not for playing games but for wielding a knife and allegedly demanding money from people.</p>

<p>Its owner, Carlos "N," employed the notorious "demon doll" to wield a genuine knife, sending shivers down the spines of unsuspecting locals.</p>

<p>The eerie incident unfolded in Monclova, a city located in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, on September 11. The owner has been arrested as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reports suggest that Carlos was under the influence of an illicit substance when he decided to parade Chucky, a character made infamous in the 1988 horror film "Child's Play," through the city's main square.</p>

<p>The doll, with a real knife in hand, was used to frighten and disturb the peace of passersby and demand money from them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Archaeologists in Peru have discovered eight burial bundles, some 800 years old, six of them of children, during the installation of gas pipes in a neighbourhood in the capital city of Lima.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The archaeologists were called to the scene two weeks ago when workers from the gas company Calidda were&nbsp;excavating in the Carabayllo district, located north of the city of Lima.&nbsp;Six of the bundles were found around 100 metres away from the previous discovery of 28 graves. <p>IUCN has attributed a combination of&nbsp;protection and biological management initiatives to the increase in numbers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With this good news, we can take a sigh of relief for the first time in a decade,"&nbsp;Michael Knight, a wildlife ecologist who chairs the IUCN's African Rhino Specialist Group was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Potentially bolstering chances of humans discovering suitable life conditions in our solar system, scientists have revealed that carbon dioxide detected on Jupiter's moon Europa might be coming&nbsp;from the vast ocean present beneath its icy shell.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using the James Webb Space Telescope, an upgrade on the Hubble, scientists are now assured that there is a huge ocean of saltwater, kilometres below Europa's ice-covered surface, making the moon a prime candidate for hosting extra-terrestrial life in our solar system.</p>

<p>Two separate teams of scientists arrived at the same conclusion using the telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). The results of the study published in <em>Science</em> revealed the exact spot where the most concentrated amount of life-building CO2 was found.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The most CO2 was in a 1,800 kilometre-wide (1,120 miles) area called Tara Regio, where there is a lot of "chaos terrain" with jagged ridges and cracks," read the study.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although it is not understood what the chaos terrain means, one theory floating around suggests that warm water from the ocean rises up to melt the surface ice which then re-freezes over time to form uneven cracks.</p>

<p>Samantha Trumbo, one of the lead authors of the study told the news agency AFP that the two teams&nbsp;concluded that the carbon was "ultimately derived from the interior, likely the internal ocean".</p>

<p>She added that table salt has been detected in Tata Regio, which gives the area a significantly more yellow hue when compared to Europa's scarred white plains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So now we've got salt, we've got CO2: we're starting to learn a little bit more what that internal chemistry might look like," Trumbo said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The results&nbsp;of the studies were appreciated by the European Space Agency which launched the Juice mission&nbsp;earlier this year to&nbsp;find out whether these icy moons have the right conditions to support life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Juice project scientist Olivier Witasse welcomed the two new studies, saying they were "very exciting".</p>

<p>But sociologists working on cultural practices of remembrance and commemoration, who have also been experimenting with raising the dead using generative AI, said they think there is no cause for concern.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the speed with which AI's necromantic possibilities have been exploited tells us a lot about how well the technology works with our existing practices of grieving, remembrance and commemoration – rather than "disrupting" or "changing" them.</p>

<p>The AI startups in this domain build on earlier do-it-yourself ventures in bringing back loved ones using generative AI. Using writing (for example, on social media and in emails), audio recordings of speech, photographs and videos of loved ones submitted by clients, they train AI models that make it possible to interact posthumously with "them" through images, voice and text.</p>

<p>As noted by Debra Bassett, who has studied digital afterlives extensively, some dissenters to this use of AI have stated that they are worried that the reanimated may be made to say things they wouldn't when alive and are instead acting out someone else's script. For Bassett, the concern is the dead are being "zombified" in a violation of their integrity.</p>

<p>Images, text and artefacts like past possessions or prized heirlooms have long been usable media for that kind of communion and new technologies, most recently cameras and recording devices, have always made such media more easily and widely accessible.</p>

<p>Others, in reflecting on the strangeness of encounters with dead people brought back into digital interaction with us, argue that those communicating are not in fact the dead at all but frauds.</p>

<p>The platform, which has been placed on the intranet forum of the company called ByteMoments, is mostly used by employees based in China. However, the staff across the world use ByteMoments for doing their daily jobs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A spokesperson, while speaking to Forbes, stated that the Meet Cute function was “specifically designed as an optional offering for mainland China employees” and that a technical bug permitted employees to use the channel in other countries.</p>

<p>The channel has a note which warns that employees should not share the personal information of staff along with a reminder that it is a platform created for introducing individuals who are outside of the company to employees of ByteDance.&nbsp;</p>
