This giant snake, named Vasuki indicus, is estimated to have reached 15 metres in length, exceeding even a T-Rex. Scientists found 27 vertebrae, some even in their original position within the spine. They believe Vasuki resembled a large python and lacked venom.

The lignite mine where the fossil was found is located in Panandhro, in the western state of Gujarat.

Debajit Datta, a postdoctoral researcher in palaeontology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and the lead author of the study, says, “Considering its huge size, Vasuki was a slow-moving predator that would control its prey through constriction like anacondas and pythons. This snake lived in a marshy swamp near the coast at a time when global temperatures were higher than today.”

The snake could have weighed up to 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilogrammes), researchers said in the journal Scientific Reports.

The name Vasuki is given after the mythical snake king Vasuki, who is seen in coil around the neck of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.

Remains of the snake’s backbone were discovered in 2005 by co-author Sunil Bajpai&nbsp;from the same institute, near Kutch, Gujarat. The researchers compared more than 20 fossil vertebrae to skeletons of living snakes to estimate the size.

“The estimated body length of Vasuki is comparable to that of Titanoboa (another huge prehistoric snake), although the vertebrae of Titanoboa are slightly larger than those of Vasuki. However, at this point, we cannot say if Vasuki was more massive or slender compared to Titanoboa,” said Sunil Bajpai.

Titanoboa, estimated at 13 metres long and weighing more than 1 tonne, lived between 58mn and 60mn years ago.

Describing Vasuki, paleontologist Debajit Datta said, "Vasuki was a majestic giant. It might have spent most days peacefully resting its head on a high porch formed by its own massive coil, or perhaps moved sluggishly through the swamp."

The mystery of Vasuki's diet remains. Given its size, it could have preyed on crocodiles. Interestingly, crocodile and turtle fossils were found alongside Vasuki's remains, along with fish and even two primitive whales – Kutchicetus and Andrewsiphius.

“Snakes are amazing creatures that often leave us stunned because of their size, agility and deadliness,” Datta said.

Dr Dean Lomax, a palaeontologist and the lead author of the paper said that the giant ichthyosaur died out in a mass extinction and the ichthyosaurs that lived after that never reached the enormous size again, BBC reported.&nbsp;

The first glimpse of this creature came in 2016 when fossil hunter Paul de la Salle was scouring Somerset beaches. Salle discovered what turned out to be the first known jawbone of this marine reptile.

He talked to Dr Lomax, and they published their findings in 2018 but wanted more evidence to understand just how big the creature was, BBC reported.&nbsp;

In 2020, Ruby Reynolds and her father Justin found what Lomax was looking for.

"I was massively impressed - really, really excited. I knew that right at that point we had a second giant jawbone from one of these massive ichthyosaurs just like Paul's," the palaeontologist told BBC.&nbsp;

The court said the influencer also stopped his partner Oxsana Mironova from breastfeeding the child as per The Sun. Mironova had earlier said that she was just a “slave” to his extreme diet partner.&nbsp;

News outlet Mash said Lyutyi used to take the boy away from Mironova for a day at a time and douse him in cold water in order to "harden him." Despite the suffering, the child was not taken to doctors.

Mironova also alleged that due to her diet (as suggested by Lyutyi) she suffered from an iron deficiency which then caused problems for the child who weighed just three-and-a-half pounds at birth.&nbsp;

In his last court appearance, Lyutyi pleaded guilty to the death of his child due to his “negligence”.

"If I knew that my son was born prematurely, that his mother had contraindications for pregnancy, then at the first symptoms of the child's illness I would immediately contact a hospital, regardless of the wishes and beliefs of the mother," he said according to The Sun.

Russian food influencer jailed for starving newborn son, feeding him only sunlight for superhuman powers

An IT professional from India’s Pune city in&nbsp;Maharashtra, filed a complaint that she was duped of INR 13.94 lakh ($16,672) by fraudsters posing as officials from a global courier company and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The victim, a resident of Lohegaon, also said that she was forced to disrobe over a video call as the ‘officials’ wanted to check moles and birthmarks.

The Airport police are now investigating the matter.

Inspector (Crime) Sarjerao Kumbhar of the Airport police said Monday (Apr 15), "The victim, a resident of Lohegaon, told us that the caller posing as 'NCB officer' forced her to disrobe on a video call for a 'physical verification' after claiming that they suspected her of 'money laundering and terror links'."

Police said the charges have been filed under IPC and the IT Act.

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The police inspector quoted the victim as saying she received a call from a man who claimed that he was a representative of a courier firm and that NCB had intercepted a Taiwan-bound drug parcel with her name as the sender.

“He told her that the parcel contained drugs, passports and other incriminating material. The man then told her that he was connecting the call with an NCB officer for an inquiry," the inspector said.

The fraudsters got the victim on a video call on the pretext of getting her bank details. They also asked the IT professional to transfer money to a bank account to ‘verify the banking details’.

A part of this galaxy had been hidden due to “a stretch of dark dust,” said the ESA.

The galaxy is spiral-shaped, rich in star-forming activity, and also hosts an active galactic nucleus at its core, said the ESA, in a statement. &nbsp;

If seen from our point of view, it would appear that the galaxy is “tilted mostly towards us” which allows astronomers to see its billions of stars, it added.&nbsp;

Biden's team on X posted a video of a CNN reporter talking about 'Sleepy Don,' with the caption: "Donald Trump appeared to be asleep. His head would fall down. He didn’t pay attention to a note his lawyer passed him. His jaw kept falling on his chest and his mouth kept going slack."

Professor Yung Wing-ho, Chair Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at CityUHK, said the research team aimed to minimise the impact of constant magnitudes in numerical tests and performed a detailed quantitative analysis to find the respective contributions of numbers and magnitudes. During the research, they found that the rats without previous knowledge of numbers developed a sense for them when trained with sounds representing two or three numbers. When given a choice of food rewards, rats consistently focused on the number of sounds rather than continuous magnitudes. Furthermore, the findings help unveil the relationship between magnitude and numerosity processing. The researchers blocked a specific part of the rats' brain called the posterior parietal cortex. It impacted their ability to understand numbers but not their sense of magnitude. "This suggests that the brain has a specific area for dealing with numbers," Professor Yung continued. Individuals who come across deceased rabbits, beavers, or other rodents should avoid the carcasses and report them to the nearest DWR office, according to officials. The symptoms of tularemia might vary from person to person. They may include ulcers on the skin where the bite occurred, swollen glands in the armpit, groin coughing, chest pain and difficulty breathing. Before this, the most recent wildlife death from tularemia was confirmed when a rabbit died in 2017. An IndiGo flight from Ayodhya to New Delhi was diverted to Chandigarh on Saturday (Apr 13) after its landing attempts in the national capital failed due to bad weather. Satish Kumar, an officer with the Delhi Police, was aboard the IndiGo flight number 6E2702.&nbsp;

In a post on X, Kumar said on Sunday the flight's scheduled departure time was 3.25 pm and the arrival at 4.30 pm. "Around 4.15 pm, the pilot announced that there was bad weather at the Delhi Airport, and assured that the plane had 45 minutes of holding fuel," Kumar said.

He added that the pilot attempted landing twice, but could not do it due to bad weather "and still wasted a lot of time" deciding the next course of action.

"At 5.30 pm (after a lapse of 75 minutes since the holding fuel announcement) the pilot announced that he’ll finally attempt landing at Chandigarh. By that time lot of passengers and one of the crew staff started puking out of panic," he added.

The former football star was charged the same month for the two murders.&nbsp;&nbsp;A highly publicised trial ensued.

It captured America's attention. The trial had everything: a rich celebrity defendant; a Black man accused of killing his white former wife out of jealousy; a woman slain after divorcing a man who had beaten her; and a "dream team" of pricy and charismatic defence lawyers.

Prosecutors argued that&nbsp;OJ killed his ex-wife in a jealous fury and presented as evidence blood, hair, and fibre tests linking him to the murders. Nevertheless, Simpson, who had already declared himself "absolutely 100 per cent not guilty," was acquitted of the charges on Oct 3, 1995, by a predominately black panel of 10 women and two men.

As per Reuters, the Goldman and Brown families subsequently pursued a wrongful death lawsuit against Simpson in civil court. In 1997, a predominately white jury in Santa Monica, California, found OJ Simpson liable for the two deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages.

But finally on April 9, when Petty Officer 2nd Class Eugene Halishlius reached the island, the story had another twist. The stranded men spoke Micronesian, the same language as Halishlius.

"I could see on their faces, 'Whoa! Who's this guy pulling up that can speak our language?'" Halishlius told CNN in an interview.

They found out they were related.

"It's a crazy world, I actually found out I'm related to them!" Halishlius said.

"He couldn't believe I'm with the Coast Guard trying to rescue them."

The man was a third cousin, the others fourth cousins, he said.

Artist and museum curator Kirsha Kaechele has come up with an experimental artwork exhibition that as per CNN is being billed by the museum as a "tremendously lavish space" where women can indulge in "decadent nibbles, fancy tipples, and other ladylike pleasures — hosted and entertained by the fabulous butler."

Last year, in April, Jason Lau, a New South Wales man visiting the museum, was barred from entering the women only exhibit.

Lau, who paid the $35 AUD or $23 USD museum entry fee, as per the tribunal documents, believed he was subjected to direct gender discrimination.

"He felt strongly enough about this to file a complaint with Equal Opportunities Tasmania," read the notes.

However, the curator Kaechele, during the court proceedings, said that denying men entry to the "mysterious" exhibition was part of the art and its allure. She said that it was to give men a taste of the discrimination and exclusion women have faced throughout history.

She added that she believed women "deserve both equal rights and special privileges in the form of unequal rights," as restitution for historical injustices, "for a minimum of 300 years."

<h2>Intentional exclusion</h2>

The tribunal acknowledged that it recognises that the art exhibition had "a pointedly participatory component that is intentionally discriminatory, for a good faith artistic purpose that many might not only appreciate but sympathise with or endorse."

However, it said that it was against Australia's 1998 anti-discrimination act.

The Ladies Lounge was needed as "a peaceful space women can retreat to; a haven in which to think clearly, and relish the pure company of women — to escape the invisible story woven through history," she added.

Rejecting the tribunal's requirement of opening exhibition to men, she said, "that's not happening". The museum, too, has reacted to the verdict by posting an explicit response on Instagram.

As per a new study published in the Journal of Astronomical History and Heritage, our home galaxy, the Milky Way, could have symbolised the Egyptian goddess of the sky, Nut.

The massive galaxy, which is also known by names like "the Birds' Path", and" the Silver River," as per the study, was linked to Nut.

As per Gizmodo, in ancient Egyptian religion, the goddess Nut represented the sky, stars, and the universe as a whole. The deity was often depicted as a woman with stars all over her body as she arches over her brother, the Earth god Geb.

Exploring the idea that the sky goddess is a manifestation of the Milky Way, Or Graur, an astrophysicist at the University of Portsmouth,&nbsp;"chanced upon the sky-goddess Nut" when he was writing a book on galaxies and looking into the mythology of the Milky Way.

In a statement, Graur, the lead author of the new study said: "I decided to combine both astronomy and Egyptology to do a double analysis—astronomical and cross-cultural—of the sky-goddess Nut, and whether she really could be linked to the Milky Way."

"Nut also played a leading role in the daily cycle of the sun, swallowing it as it set in the west. During the night, the sun sailed through Nut’s body, which for a time was synonymous with the netherworld. Then, at dawn, Nut gave birth to the sun once more as it rose in the east," he adds.

For his research, Graur referred to ancient Egyptian texts, including the Book of Nut, which was originally titled Fundamentals of the Course of the Stars.

He realised that the 'Book of Nut' equates Goddess Nut's head and rear to the western and eastern horizons, and her arms extending at an angle to her body in the northwest and the southeast.

Egyptians also believed that the goddess helped transition the dead into the afterlife, a common belief about the Milky Way shared by other cultures in Africa.

<h2>Connecting past with the present</h2>

The study offers a glimpse into how our ancestors viewed celestial objects in the night sky.

"My research shows how combining disciplines can offer new insights into ancient beliefs, and it highlights how astronomy connects humanity across cultures, geography, and time," said Graur.

"This paper is an exciting start to a larger project to catalogue and study the multicultural mythology of the Milky Way," added the astrophysicist.

The woman was diagnosed by the authors with an infection called "ocular pentastomiasis". This is a rare eye infection which occurs because of parasites known as "pentastomids". In the woman's case, the parasite had embedded itself below the conjunctiva or the clear outer membrane of the left eye of the patient and had grown to about 0.4 inches (10 millimetres) long. According to the doctors, the 28-year-old from Basankusu in Congo did not show any other symptoms apart from the outgrown mass in the corner of her eye, reported her doctors. It was during the surgery that a pale, C-shaped larva was revealed. The parasite was sent for further analysis and the scientists discovered that it was part of a species called Armillifer grandis. How do such parasites enter the human body? It is known that snakes are used by Armillifer parasites as their hosts when they enter the final stage of their life cycle. In the respiratory tracts of different pythons and vipers, these parasites lay their eggs. Eventually, the eggs move from the lungs and enter the environment through the mouth or the digestive tract of the snake. They are generally picked by small mammals like rodents, which a snake is likely to eat. In these hosts, they generally develop into larvae before getting eaten by a snake, which completes the life cycle of the parasite. The parasite enters the human body when they eat or drink food or water which is contaminated with its eggs or by coming in close contact with infected snakes, wrote the case report authors. "However, she was used to eating crocodile meat. No case of Armillifer ocular infection has ever been reported in individuals who eat crocodile meat, but crocodiles can be infected by pentastomids," said her doctors. Hence, there is a chance that the woman contracted the infection when she consumed crocodile meat containing parasite eggs. The Golden Retriever is dad to 39 litters, including an impressive 16 puppies in 2021 — "a record-breaking number for Guide Dogs," said the organisation in a press release.

"In total, 294 of Trigger's puppies have been bred by Guide Dogs, and a further 29 pups have been born of his valuable 'collaborations' with other assistance dog charities and guide dog schools. This puts his grand total at 323," adds the statement.

His puppies, as per the organisation, have gone to serve as guide dogs in many UK cities, including London, Glasgow, and Cardiff, bringing "independence and confidence" to the&nbsp;"lives of blind and partially sighted people all over Britain."&nbsp;

Two of his litters were born in France and the Netherlands, and are "helping to create guide dog partnerships in both countries."

The very last of Trigger's litters was made up of six puppies. The 'Triglets' — an affectionate name given to his offspring by volunteers and guide dog owners — consisted of five daughters named Jenny, Rita, Hermione, Sandy, and Indy, and one son, Billy.&nbsp;

Currently&nbsp;eight-week-old, the six golden retriever puppies "are about to start their guide dog journeys and will be living with volunteer Puppy Raisers for the next year of their lives."

Janine Dixon, the head of breeding operations at Guide Dogs, in a statement, said that Trigger's "wonderful, gentle nature and excellent health" made him a "perfect asset" for their breeding programme.&nbsp;

"We can't overstate the impact that Trigger has in helping us to provide so many guide dogs for people with sight loss," he remarked.

He added that they hope Trigger's progeny Billy will join their breeding programme to continue his legacy, and that "nine of his daughters and half-French son Pierre, are helping us to bring forward a new generation of guide dogs with Trigger’s fantastic genes."&nbsp;

The retired dog will live out his days in Banbury with his Breeding Dog Volunteer Sarah Byrne, who has looked after him for the past seven years. Byrne will now officially adopt the Dogfather.
