In China, two women have been accused of child abuse after they reportedly separated a crying toddler from her grandmother and locked her in the toilet of a plane during a domestic flight.
They even uploaded a video of the incident on a social media platform, Douyin, China's version of TikTok. It has since been deleted.
In it, the little girl can be seen crying and wailing as one woman says "if you stop crying, you can go out" and "if you stop crying, auntie will take you back to grandma".
According to the Guardian, the women were not related to the child.
Apparently, the womanlocked the child in the toilet to educate her. The incident took place on August 24, during a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang, a city in south-west China, to Shanghai.
The flight operator confirmed the incident and said that the child was taken to the toilet to educate her with the grandmother's and the mother's consent.
One of the women, identified as Gou Tingting, was initially proud of her actions.
She said that "Many passengers were using tissues to block their ears" and that "Some had moved to the back of the plane to escape the noise."
On Weibo, people have widely criticised the women and even the parents of the child.
One user said that the grandmother and the "aunties" should be sued, adding "If there are parents like this, children will suffer in the future."
Another said that people need to understand that "babies have the right to cry and the right to travel, they are part of society, and so are babies".
