The United States on Monday (Nov 27) hailed the extension of the truce between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas by two days and said that it was optimistic about the humanitarian pause being continued for longer.

"Of course, we welcome the announcement," White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters after mediator Qatar said the initial four-day truce was to be lengthened.

"We would of course hope to see the pause extended further, and that will depend upon Hamas continuing to release hostages."

Earlier, the Palestinian militant group had promised that it would release another 20 women and children that it had held hostage in the Gaza Strip over the next two days.

Kirby also expressed hope that the truce could turn into a more permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

"I won't speak for the Israeli Defense Forces, but when these pauses are over, they have made it very clear that they're going to continue to target Hamas leadership," Kirby said.

He then said that US President Joe Biden was optimistic about his efforts to accelerate the humanitarian assistance going into Gaza and also his approach towards facilitating the release of hostages.

Biden took to his official X handle on Monday (Nov 27) and said that he would continue to stay in touch with leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Israel to ensure that every aspect of the deal was implemented.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the move to extend the truce "a glimpse of hope and humanity," but also warned that it wasn't enough to meet the aid needs of war-torn Gaza.

"I strongly hope that this will enable us to increase even more the humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza that (are) suffering so much - knowing that even with that additional amount of time, it will be impossible to satisfy all the dramatic needs of the population," Guterres told reporters.

The UN, which has been actively transporting aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave via the Rafah border crossing from Egypt, also anticipates being able to use the Kerem Shalom border crossing which is controlled by Israel.

"I am sincerely hopeful that it will be possible to have other crossings because they will facilitate the distribution and it will also facilitate the control by the Israeli side. So I'm very hopeful that this will happen," Guterres said.

White House hails extension of truce between Israel-Hamas, hopes humanitarian pause extends further

Elon Musk’s social media company X has sued nonprofit Media Matters accusing the organisation of defaming the platform after it published a report which said that ads for major brands appeared next to posts hailing Hitler and the Nazi party.

The platform, according to the lawsuit filed in the United States District Court in Texas, alleges that the media non-profit is driving advertisers away by portraying X as full of antisemitic content.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden on Monday (Nov 20) announced that he is joining Threads, Meta’s social media rival to X, days after the White House blasted Musk’s “abhorrent promotion” of an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

Musk sues media nonprofit

In the lawsuit, X claimed that the media non-profit “manipulated” the platform by “tricking the algorithm into thinking Media Matters wanted to view both hateful content and content from large advertisers.”

It also alleged that the media non-profit used accounts that exclusively followed accounts for major brands or users known to produce fringe content while also “endlessly scrolling and refreshing” the feed until it found ads next to extremist posts.

The report misrepresented the typical experience of the user “with the intention of harming X and its business,” said X. Ads for IBM, Comcast and Oracle only appeared alongside hateful content for one viewer – Media Matters, the platform claimed.

“Media Matters knowingly and maliciously manufactured side-by-side images depicting advertisers' posts on X Corp.’s social media platform beside Neo-Nazi and white-nationalist fringe content and then portrayed these manufactured images as if they were what typical X users experience,” said the company in its lawsuit.

X has sought unspecified cash damages and to take down the report.

A ‘frivolous’ lawsuit

President of Media Matters, Angelo Carusone called the lawsuit “frivolous” in an emailed statement, as per Reuters, and said it was “meant to bully X’s critics into silence”. However, the media watchdog “stands behind its reporting and looks forward to winning in court,” he added.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, on Monday (Nov 20) said that his office was opening an investigation into Media Matters and that he was “extremely troubled” by the allegations.

The report prompted high-profile companies, including Apple, Comcast, NBCUniversal and IBM to pause their advertising on X last week after it showed that their ads were displayed with pro-Nazi content.

Musk recently came under fire after he replied to an antisemitic post on the platform saying, “You have said the actual truth.”

The post was seen as a reference to a longtime false conspiracy theory which claims that Jewish people have a secret plan to bring illegal immigrants into the US and move demographics away from a White majority.

Biden made his debut on Threads, on Monday (Nov 20). “Folks, it’s President Biden,” he said in his first post on his 81st birthday. “You’re hearing from me today from a new platform but my message to you hasn't changed,” he added.

“I don’t see a dark, dismal, divided future for America. I see an America about to take off,” said the US president.

The White House later confirmed that they have also launched Threads accounts for First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, her husband Douglas Emhoff and the White House itself in English and Spanish.

“Threads is an additional way we can communicate with the American people about this administration's historic actions to create 14 million jobs, lower prescription drug costs, and protect freedoms and more,” said a White House official, adding that the launch had been in the works for several weeks.

The United States has announced that it will not share any Israeli intelligence or elaborate on its intelligence assessment of its own agencies that Hamas was using Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital as a command centre and possibly as a storage facility.

The United States has announced that it will not share any Israeli intelligence or elaborate on its intelligence assessment of its own agencies that Hamas was using Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital as a command centre and possibly as a storage facility. On Thursday (Nov 16), White House spokesperson John Kirby said that the US was confident in an assessment from its own intelligence agencies on Hamas activities in the hospital, which is the largest in Gaza. On being asked by reporters if Israel shared any new evidence since the raid on the hospital began on Wednesday, Kirby said, "I'm not going to talk about specific intelligence that may pass between the two of us." The White House spokesperson also said that Hamas militants were sheltering themselves in the hospital and using the facility as a shield against military action, placing patients and medical staff at risk. "We are still convinced of the soundness of that intelligence," he also told reporters. Israeli forces found nothing during raid at hospital On Friday, a doctor at the Al-Shifa hospital told the news agency Reuters that Israeli forces found nothing during raids of the medical facility, adding supplies of food and water were running out. "They have found nothing. They have found no single resistance. No single gunshot, against them within the hospital area," Dr Ahmed El Mokhallalati told the news agency Reuters. "It’s a totally terrifying situation, here the Israeli tanks and the Israeli troops have been moving within the hospital area, all over the hospital," Dr Mokhallalati said. "The situation is totally difficult. They are shooting all the time, all the areas," he added. Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra said there was no water, food or baby milk in the hospital- which has over 600 patients and 7,000 people displaced by weeks of Israeli air strikes and artillery bombardments. As per Israeli forces, a vast underground Hamas command headquarters was operating in tunnels beneath the hospital. On Thursday night, the military said troops had found a tunnel shaft and vehicle with weapons inside the hospital complex. (With inputs from agencies)

White House condemns Elon Musk for 'abhorrent promotion' of antisemitism

The White House on Tuesday (November 14) substantiated a major Israeli claim and said that Palestinian militants have a command centre at Al-Shifa Hospital, the biggest hospital in Gaza City. Israel has repeatedly made this claim while Hamas has consistently denied it. Al-Shifa hospital complex is currently witnessing clashes between Israeli forces and Hamas fighters.

John Kirby, National Security Council spokesman told reporters that Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group "operate a command and control node from Al-Shifa in Gaza City."

The comments come just a day after the US President said that Al-Shifa hospital 'must be protected'.

"They have stored weapons there and they're prepared to respond to an Israeli military operation against that facility," said Kirby citing US intelligence.

A 'green light' to 'massacres', says Hamas

Hamas shot back at the US merely hours after the White House said that the militant group had a command and control centre at Al-Shifa Hospital.

"These statements give a green light to the Israeli occupation to commit further brutal massacres targeting hospitals, with the goal of destroying Gaza's healthcare system and displacing Palestinians," Hamas said in a statement as quoted by AFP.

"The United States bears direct responsibility for enabling Israel's genocidal war on Gaza," Hamas said.

There is mounting pressure on Israel over the blockade of Al-Shifa compounds. There are patients and people seeking shelter inside. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already said that the hospital is turning into a 'cemetery' as bodies of the dead are not being buried or being stored in a mortuary.

Hamas runs 'command and control' centre from Al-Shifa Hospital: White House

The first images of cocaine, which were found inside the White House in July, were released and circulated on social media after the Daily Mail accessed it from the Secret Service through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The Secret Service agents had found the suspicious white-coloured substance in the West Wing's publicly accessible area on July 2 which had prompted the complex's brief evacuation. After the white powder was discovered, fire and emergency service personnel reached the scene and quickly tested the material. In the preliminary examinations, it was revealed that the white powder was indeed cocaine.

The Secret Service, which closed the investigation of the case on July 14, stated that they had "not been unable to identify a suspect" since no DNA or fingerprints were found on the small bag, as reported by The New York Post.

''Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered,'' stated the Secret Service, in a statement. As per the Secret Service, the box which showed "insufficient DNA" was tested by the FBI lab and they were not able to recover any fingerprints.

The White House on Sunday (Nov 5) said that more than 300 US residents and Americans were evacuated from the war-torn Gaza Strip as the conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas intensifies.

The evacuations that were carried out in the recent days were a result of "pretty intensive negotiations with all sides relevant to this conflict," White House Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer told CBS News.

He further stated that despite these efforts, it is believed that there are still "a number" of Americans trapped inside Gaza.

"This is obviously a major priority and one that we're going to continue to work out until every American who wants to leave is able to do so," Finer said.

He also said the US officials were working hard to secure the release of hostages held captive by Hamas in the war.

Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that there were about 400 American citizens and their family members, adding up to around 1,000 people, who wanted to escape Israeli bombardment.

The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, which is the only passage in and out of the besieged Palestinian enclave not controlled by Israel, opened up on Wednesday after weeks of violence, allowing several injured Palestinians and people with dual nationality to leave.

Evacuations of wounded Gazans and foreign passport holders through the Rafah crossing to Egypt have been suspended since Saturday (Nov 4) after Hamas demanded Israel to let some injured Palestinians reach Rafah so they can cross the border for hospital treatment.

However, Egypt, US and Qatari officials said that they were making efforts to resume the evacuations.

A senior White House official on Friday (Nov 3) accused Hamas of abusing a US-brokered deal to open the crossing to get its fighters out of conflict-torn Gaza.

Sunday's latest count of evacuated Americans comes after the White House said nearly 80 US citizens and their family members had left Wednesday and Thursday.

In the United States, a federal judge on Sunday (Oct 29) reinstated a gag order against former president Donald Trump in the election interference case.

US District Judge Tanya S Chutkan issued the gag order, which was basically back in effect as the judge ended the pause on the order.

The judge had granted an administrative stay so that Trump's defence team could pursue an appeal. Until then the gag order was on hold.

US media outlets reported that Special Counsel Jack Smith's team asked for the gag order to "protect the integrity of the trial and the jury pool" from being influenced by Trump's statements about the case, which was filed in US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Saudi defence minister expected to visit White House on Oct 30

A day after Joe Biden said that he believed progress by the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) triggered Hamas' attack on Israel, White House officials said that the US President was "misunderstood".

"This is an instinct that the IMEC Corridor announced at the G20 Summit may have precipitated Hamas terrorist attack against Israel," the media personnel said, raising questions at the White House press briefing on Friday (Oct 27).

In response, White House spokesperson John Kirby said, "I think you misunderstood him. What he said was that he believed that the normalisation process and the agreement that we were trying to reach between Israel and Saudi Arabia for normalisation, which we believe is an important stepping stone to getting to a two-state solution, was what may have motivated Hamas to — to conduct those attacks."

'You misunderstood': White House officials clarify Biden's statement linking IMEC to Hamas onslaught

Russia is executing soldiers who do not follow orders related to the war with Ukraine, the White House said on Thursday (Oct 26) adding that Moscow’s forces are suffering “significant” losses of armour and personnel. Meanwhile, the United States has also announced a new $150 million military assistance package for Ukraine.

Is Russia ‘executing soldiers’?

“We have information that the Russian military has been actually executing soldiers who are refusing to follow orders,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters during a briefing.

He added, “We also have information that Russian commanders are threatening to execute entire units if they seek to retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire.”

However, the White House official did not give any further details about the alleged executions or how the United States had obtained the information.

This comes as Russia in the past weeks has ramped up attacks in the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region and the northeastern city of Kupyansk, in what is being viewed as a new offensive by the Russian forces in a bid to move the front line forward before winter.

The White House official also said that Moscow has witnessed “significant losses” in the new offensive, losing at least 125 armoured vehicles and “thousands” of casualties.

“The Russian military appears to be using what we would call human wave tactics,” said Kirby, adding that it is “unsurprising that Russian forces are suffering from poor morale,” he added.

A report by the New York Times, back in August, citing US officials said the number of Ukrainian and Russian troops killed or wounded since the war in Ukraine that began in February 2022 was nearing 500,000.

However, the officials warned that the number is strictly an estimate due to the lack of official figures.

US announces new military aid package for Ukraine

Washington, on Thursday also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine which includes anti-tank weapons, air defence missiles, night vision devices, demolition munitions and cold weather gear.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Washington is wading deeper into the conflict and making a mistake by providing Kyiv with the missiles which, according to him, would not alter the battlefield situation and could be repelled.

Russia is executing soldiers who do not follow orders related to the war with Ukraine, the White House said on Thursday (Oct 26) adding that Moscow’s forces are suffering “significant” losses of armour and personnel.

He added, “We also have information that Russian commanders are threatening to execute entire units if they seek to retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire.” However, the White House official did not give any further details about the alleged executions or how the United States had obtained the information. This comes as Russia in the past weeks has ramped up attacks in the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region and the northeastern city of Kupyansk, in what is being viewed as a new offensive by the Russian forces in a bid to move the front line forward before winter. ALSO READ | Putin visits military HQ in southern Russia; Moscow ramps up attacks in Avdiivka, says Ukraine The White House official also said that Moscow has witnessed “significant losses” in the new offensive, losing at least 125 armoured vehicles and “thousands” of casualties. US announces new military aid package for Ukraine Washington, on Thursday also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine which includes anti-tank weapons, air defence missiles, night vision devices, demolition munitions and cold weather gear. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Washington is wading deeper into the conflict and making a mistake by providing Kyiv with the missiles which, according to him, would not alter the battlefield situation and could be repelled. Russia is ‘executing soldiers’ who are refusing orders in Ukraine, says White House

The US government is expected to pass an executive order on artificial intelligence (AI) in the coming days, reported the Washington Post. This is being called the Biden administration's most prominent step till now to regulate the technology that has taken the world by storm. It has been reported that the order will be released just two days before an international summit in the UK which is focussed on potential risks of AI. Leaders of governments, civil society groups and even top Silicon Valley executives are expected to be present for the summit.

WaPo reported citing three unnamed people who are involved in the discussions that the sweeping order may require advanced AI models to undergo an assessment before their use by federal workers.

The report said that on Tuesday night, the White House sent invitations for the “Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence” event that is set to take place next week. The event will reportedly be hosted by the president.

The AI is under scanner in different parts of the world. The European Union and other governments are finding ways to block uses of artificial intelligence that pose the biggest risks. The executive order from the US would be another step in the direction as policymakers ponder how to tackle the risks associated with AI.

It is expected that EU officials will reach a deal by year's end. The widely anticipated EU AI Act would most likely be a wide-ranging package aimed at protecting customers from risks surrounding AI.

Artificial Intelligence captivated popular perception with the launch of ChatGPT last year. The generative AI tool started a new race between the tech giants besides making everyday users awestruck and even apprehensive due to its ability to generate text, poetry, essays, codes and more.

There have been concerns about AI replacing humans in jobs and the need for regulation has taken root in policymaking circles.

The White House spoke about plans for the executive order in July. Biden further gave a hint of it in September.

“This fall, I’m going to take executive action, and my administration is going to continue to work with bipartisan legislation so America leads the way toward responsible AI innovation,” Biden said at a meeting with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

White House to pass executive order on AI next week: Report

Australia and the United States will announce plans to cooperate on critical minerals and bolster Pacific Islands infrastructure during Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's visit to Washington DC, a senior Biden administration official said.

Albanese's White House schedule began Tuesday, Washington time, and is focused on broadening Australia's security alliance with the United States into an economic and technology partnership, Albanese told reporters in Washington on Monday (Oct 23).

The two leaders will flesh out details of further cyber security cooperation, in addition to a $5 billion Microsoft investment in Australia, the Biden administration official said.

Several announcements, including the infrastructure project, will showcase US-Australia cooperation in the Pacific.

"This is an absolute imperative for both of these leaders ... that we do stay deeply focused on the Pacific Islands," the official, Mira Rapp-Hooper, special assistant to the president and senior director for East Asia and Oceania on the National Security Council, told Reuters.

"The prime minister's visit this week is an important reminder that our president, our commander-in-chief, is very much able to keep his steady gaze on the Indo-Pacific and our long-term interest there as he manages the crisis at hand," she added, referring to the world's focus on the Middle East.

A critical minerals task force to boost private investment in Australia's rare earths industry and reduce global reliance on China will be the centrepiece of Albanese's schedule, with Australia committing another A$2 billion ($1.27 billion) in financing to "de-risk" private sector involvement.

The United States on Monday (Oct 23) accused Iran of “actively facilitating” rocket and drone attacks on its forces in Iraq and Syria. This comes after Iran-backed militias in Iraq claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on US bases in the two countries.

President Joe Biden has since directed the Department of Defense to brace for additional similar attacks and respond appropriately, said White House spokesman John Kirby. He also said that the US has sent a “few” military advisors to Israel.

Attacks on US military bases

Kirby said there had been an uptick in such attacks over the last week, particularly over the last few days and that the US would not allow its interests in the region to “go unchallenged.”

Washington also raised concerns about an escalation of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. However, the US has rejected calls for a ceasefire saying its ally Israel has a right to self-defence.

“Iran continues to support Hamas and Hezbollah, and we know that Iran is closely monitoring these events and, in some cases, actively facilitating these attacks and spurring on others who may want to exploit the conflict for their own good or for that of Iran,” said Kirby.

He added, “We know Iran’s goal is to maintain some level of deniability here, but we’re not going to allow them to do that.” This comes as there has been an increase in attacks on US forces in the region, particularly since Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7.

Earlier this week, at least five rocket and drone attacks targeted three Iraqi military bases where American troops are stationed as part of the international coalition set up to fight the Islamic State group.

On Monday (Oct 23), Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iranian-backed militias, said that its forces used two drones to attack US military bases in Deir el-Zour province and in al-Shaddadi further north.

This was after the group also said that it attacked the al-Tanf garrison near the Jordanian and Iraqi borders which is near the desert Rukban camp home to tens of thousands of Syrians.

“We are deeply concerned about the potential for any significant escalation of these attacks in the days ahead,” said the White House spokesperson.

US sends ‘few’ military advisors to Israel

Kirby said that the US has also sent a “few” military advisors to Israel, adding that these officers have experience in “the sorts of operations that Israel is conducting, and may conduct in the future” and were “over there to share some perspectives.”

A report by the Associated Press said that the Pentagon has sent military advisers to Israel to help with war planning ahead of their potential ground operation in Gaza.

Among those is Marine Corps Lt. Gen. James Glynn, who has previously helped lead special operations forces against the Islamic State and served in Fallujah, Iraq, during some of the most heated urban combat there, a US official told AP.

White House says Iran ‘actively facilitating’ attacks on US military bases

US President Joe Biden on Monday (Oct 24) triggered a wave of speculations on social media after ending a rare White House press meet as he told reporters that he was heading to the “situation room.”

He said he had “another issue to deal with”.

It came on the heels of the news from Gaza that Hamas had agreed to release two more hostages.

The reason for his departure was not confirmed by the White House, but it is speculated that it was triggered by reports of increasing hostility of Iran-backed militias in the West Asian region against US forces.

Tensions in Gaza have also escalated, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) incessantly pounding Gaza and Hamas reporting at least 150 casualties in overnight Israeli raids.

“I apologise, I have to go to the Situation Room for another issue I have to deal with,” Biden told reporters.

Watch: Biden abruptly ends press meet saying he was heading to ‘situation room’

Joe Biden abruptly ended his speech to address an unidentified "issue" that required him to be in the Situation Room. Regarding the ongoing conflict with Hamas and the hostages kidnapped in Israel, Biden was speaking to the nation. I must visit the Situation Room. He said, "I have a problem that needs to be resolved. His remarks were made just after news broke that Hamas had freed two of the four hostages it had released from Gaza following the terror incident on October 7.

US: Why did President Joe Biden end press conference abruptly?

The US intelligence community is believed to have briefed President Joe Biden about the imminent violence between Hamas and Israel in the weeks ahead of the October 7 terrorist attacks, a CNN report has revealed.

One update came on September 28, backed by multiple intelligence inputs that indicated Hamas was planning a massive rocket attack on Israel. The second assessment was produced on October 5, when the country’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned of the increasing possibility of violence by Hamas.

On October 6, the day before Hamas’ assault, US officials reportedly circulated inputs that came directly from Israel. All of this heralded a massive Gazan attack on Israel.

It was unclear whether or not the US intelligence assessments were shared with the Israeli administration.

While the intelligence hinted at the possibility of violence, none of the inputs gave details or indicated the sheer scale and brutality of the attack.

Intelligence failure?

Since Israel-Hamas tensions are so frequent and prevalent, it is sometimes an arduous task for intelligence experts to predict or assess the gravity of the situation.

“The problem is that none of this is new,” said one of the sources familiar with the intelligence. “This is something that has historically been the norm between Hamas and Israel. The evaluations were part of a series of stern alerts conveyed to the Biden administration by its own intelligence agencies and allies in the Middle East over the past year, prompting doubts about whether the United States and Israel were adequately prepared for the potential risks.

Watch: A week of Israel-Hamas fighting: Tales of horror × “The problem is that none of this is new,” said one of the sources familiar with the intelligence. “This is something that has historically been the norm between Hamas and Israel. US President Joe Biden interrogated in classified documents row

Two senior Republican lawmakers in the US House of Representatives on Friday pressed the Biden administration for tougher enforcement of export controls on sending advanced computing chips and the tools to make them to China.

In a letter to National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Representatives Michael McCaul and Mike Gallagher, respectively chairmen of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a select committee on China, said that new advances by China's top chipmaker show that the sweeping set of rules rolled out a year ago this month need updating to close what the lawmakers called loopholes.

The letter comes after Huawei Technologies unveiled a new Mate 60 Pro smartphone that contained advanced chips made by China's Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) despite US sanctions.

"The October 7 rules and SMIC’s growing capabilities reveal a stagnant, obscured bureaucracy that does not understand China’s industrial policy, does not understand China’s military goals, and does not understand technology at all - and does not have the will to act," McCaul and Gallagher said in the letter.

The lawmakers urged the Biden administration to update the rules and take immediate action against Huawei and SMIC. They also urged the administration cut off Chinese companies' access to powerful artificial-intelligence chips accessed through cloud computing services and to start enforcing the administration's own rules around placing restrictions on Chinese companies that do not allow US officials to verify whether Chinese companies are complying with US export rules.

Reuters reported this week that the Biden administration has warned China it plans to update the rules. Spokespeople for the National Security Council and the Bureau of Industry and Security, the arm of the Commerce Department that oversees export controls, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

US lawmakers press White House for tougher enforcement of China chip rules

The White House said that it has started making plans for a meeting to be held in San Francisco between United States President Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in November, an attempt which is aimed at stabilising the tumultuous relationship between the two countries, as per senior administration officials.

“It’s pretty firm” that a meeting will be held, confirmed an administration even though a formal announcement of the engagement has not happened as of yet. “We’re beginning the process” of planning, said the official, as reported by The Washington Post.

A second senior administration official stated that Biden is looking forward to the scheduled meeting with Xi, but added that “nothing has been confirmed yet.”

The plans will be confirmed after the US visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Washington in the coming weeks, said the administration officials.

In a recent White House press briefing, the national security advisor, John Kirby, found himself discussing an unexpected topic — the relationship between pop sensation Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce. On Monday, the United States of America formally established diplomatic relations with two Pacific Island nations, officially recognizing Niue and the Cook Islands. The acknowledgment comes at a time when President Joe Biden has made it a top priority since taking office to fortify ties in the Indo-Pacific area in opposition to China's growing sway. In an effort to strengthen ties with Pacific Island countries, the administration convened the leaders of the Pacific Island Forum on Monday at the White House.

US President Joe Biden will be participating in the United Auto Workers picket line on Tuesday (September 26). This will be the strongest show of support by the leader for union members who have been striking against Ford, Stellantis and General Motors.

On Friday, Biden took to X to announce that he will be travelling to Wayne County, Michigan, "to join the picket line and stand in solidarity with the men and women of UAW as they fight for a fair share of the value they helped create."

It is a move that some experts have called unprecedented in modern political history, a step which the White House has quickly called “historic”.

"He supports the UAW workers and tomorrow what you're going to see is historic," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, while speaking to the reporters on Monday.

"This is going to be a historic visit,” the White House said.

Jean-Pierre was asked if the president is officially siding with the demands of the striking workers by joining the picket line, and how his appearance is consistent with the claim of the White House that he will not get involved in the negotiations.

Biden not involved in negotiations

To this, she said, "He is standing with the workers. We are not involved in negotiations."

"That is something for them to decide what is going to work for the parties that are involved, but he is standing with the autoworkers,” she said.

The appearance of Biden will come one day before former president Donald Trump reaches Michigan, a 2024 battleground, to campaign instead of participating in the second Republican primary debate to be held on Wednesday night.

"I'm not gonna get into the details of what's being negotiated right now on the table with certainly with the parties. What we're saying is that we support the autoworkers," Jean-Pierre said.

Biden has stated that he feels union workers deserve their "fair share" of the record earnings of the companies and added that the time has come for a "win-win agreement" between the automakers and union.

On Monday, when quizzed whether he supports the UAW demands, Biden said, “I think the UAW gave up an incredible amount back when the automobile industry was going under. They gave up everything from their pensions on, and they saved the automobile industry.”

“And I think that now that the industry is roaring back, they should -- they should participate in the benefit of that. And if you take a look at the significant increase in salaries for the executives and growth for the industry, they should benefit from it. So yes, I support -- I always support the UAW,” he added while speaking to ABC.

US President Joe Biden will be participating in the United Auto Workers picket line on Tuesday (September 26). This will be the strongest show of support by the leader for union members who have been striking against Ford, Stellantis and General Motors.
