"On the morning (Yemen time) of November 23, the USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) shot down multiple one-way attack drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen," stated CENTCOM, on social media platform X. "The ship and crew sustained no damage or injury," it added. 
 
The Houthis have stated that they are part of an "axis of resistance" of the allies and proxies of Iran retaliating against Israel's war with Hamas. 
 
The Israel-Hamas war has increased the spectre of a broader Middle East conflagration, as the frontier between Israel and Lebanon also witnessing near-daily exchanges of fire. 
 
A series of drones and missiles have been launched by the Houthis in Yemen towards Israel since the Israel-Hamas war started on October 7.

On Wednesday, Israel stated that it had intercepted a "cruise missile" which was going towards the country's south, a shot which was claimed by the Huthi rebels. 
 
"Our forces launched missiles at various military targets" in southern Israel, stated Yahia Saree, spokesman for the armed wing of the Huthis, on X. 
 
"We will continue to carry out military operations until the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank stops," he further said.

<h2>Houthis threaten to target Israeli shipping</h2>

The Houthis have further threatened that they will be targeting Israeli shipping and on Sunday stated that the Galaxy Leader, which is an Israel-linked cargo vessel and its 25 international crew, was seized at the Red Sea's entrance. 
 
Israel's military stated that the seizure was a "very grave incident of global consequence", and a US military official said it was "a flagrant violation of international law". 
 
Israel and Hamas on Wednesday (Nov 22) stated that they have agreed on a four-day ceasefire during which a prisoner and hostage swap will be carried out.

Military prosecutors said during a nine-day trial at Naval Base San Diego in California that Ryan Mays, then 21 years old, deliberately set the USS Bonhomme Richard on fire in the summer of 2020 because he was angry over quitting his Navy Seal training.&nbsp;

The prosecution's case was based on an eyewitness whose account changed numerous times and who admitted to feeling "pressured" by authorities when he named Mays as the primary suspect, the defence team countered. According to the San Diego television news station KFMB, there was no physical evidence connecting Mays to the fire.

The accusations of arson and wilful hazarding of a vessel that the prosecution had brought against Mays were not sufficiently supported by hard evidence, according to military judge Derek Butler, who agreed with the defence.&nbsp;

If found guilty, Mays faced a potential sentence of life in prison.&nbsp;

By 2031, according to new modelling from a US think tank, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China will rule the region with a variety of deadly warships and submarines, according to The Guardian.

According to the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, the PLA could possess five aircraft carriers, more than 60 cruisers and destroyers, and a brand-new fleet of submarines in less than ten years.

Teams of national security experts used modelling to project Beijing's behaviour using a simulation of China's $300 billion defence budget.

It has been common for Chinese forces to cross the Taiwan Strait line – the unofficial border between the two countries – as a show of aggression. The aircrafts started their usual exercise even before Pelosi arrived on August 4, and they have continued the drills ever since.

Taiwan said that they were able to scramble a combat air patrol and implemented defense missile system against the planes, according to the official statement of the Ministry of National Defense. Earlier, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-Wen said that&nbsp;they will not "escalate conflicts or provoke disputes" but will "firmly&nbsp;defend the country's sovereignty".

The first set of drills ended on Sunday, but the Chinese media has reported that the next round will continue to take place. The authorities also said they detected an unmanned aerial vehicle near the Chinese coastal city of Xiamen and the army fired to repel it from making any progress into the area.

China has also said it will hold live-fire drills in the Yellow Sea between China and the Korean peninsula from Saturday until August 15.

Referring to the recently discovered flat piece, Dan Pascoe, who is a marine archaeologist from Bournemouth University, said, "We weren't particularly looking for it."&nbsp;

He added, "A feature had showed up in geophysical surveys, 60m off the stern. It looks like it's in pretty good condition and is complete from top to bottom."&nbsp;

The 11m-long intact rudder was spotted during a routine inspection of the site near Portsmouth. Pascoe and his team plan to protect the rudder from erosion of the sea floor with sandbags.&nbsp;

Researchers from Bournemouth University and the Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust recovered a gunpowder barrel, swivel guns, a bottle of corked rum, and woodworking tools so far from the shipwreck site.&nbsp;

The US Navy has uploaded a video of the USS Gerald R Ford, one of the world's largest and newest aircraft carriers, undergoing a "full ship shock trial."

The shock trial comprised the detonation of just under 20 tonnes of explosives within metres of a ship cruising off the east coast of the United States.&nbsp;

The United States Geological Survey reported a 3.9 magnitude earthquake around 161 kilometres off the coast of Florida. Some media reports said the quake was linked to the ship's shock trial.

The Indian Navy's Kashin-class destroyer INS Rajput, the first warship to be fitted with long-range BrahMos missile, was decommissioned on Friday after 41 years of service.

The destroyer, built by the erstwhile USSR and commissioned on May 4, 1980, had the distinction of being part of both the Western and Eastern fleets.

Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said the warship was decommissioned in a low key event at the naval dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

Besides BrahMos, the warship was equipped with an array of weapons and sensors including anti-aircraft guns, torpedoes, and anti-submarine rocket launchers.

The ship participated in several key missions in the last four decades, including operation Aman off Sri Lanka that was launched to assist the Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF) and Operation Cactus to resolve a hostage situation off the Maldives.
