Minister of information and communications Nguyen Manh Hung told parliament there was risk that "false news, if it is handled in a slow manner, will spread very widely."

Reuters had previously reported government's plans to bring in the new regulations, as well as rules that very sensitive information has to be taken down within three hours.

Most governments do not have laws imposing the taking down of content on social media paltforms, but Vietnam's move comes amid intensifying crackdowns on online content in some parts of the world.

Hung claimed that penalties for spreading misinformation in Vietnam were only one-tenth the level of other countries in the region.

"The ministry will propose to the government an increase in administrative fines to a level that is high enough to deter the public," he said.

Speaking to the legislature, Hung proposed to completely deal with "News-lisation", a term used by authorities to describe when people are misled into thinking that social media accounts are authorised news outlets, by 2023.

According to official broadcaster CCTV, Chinese President Xi Jinping advised the visiting head of Vietnam's ruling Communist Party on Monday that both nations and parties should "never let anyone interfere" with their development.&nbsp;

The confident warning against foreign meddling came at a time when relations between China and the West were tense, particularly with the United States over Taiwan, the situation in the Ukraine, trade, and other matters.&nbsp;

Unmasked, Xi and Nguyen Phu Trong shook hands and hugged before participating in a televised welcoming ceremony in Beijing's Great Hall of the People. This unusually close encounter between Xi and another leader occurred despite China's continued adherence to Covid lockdowns.

Since Xi was elected to a record-breaking third term as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party at its 20th party conference this month, Trong's was the first visit by a foreign head of state.

"The development of the cause of human progress is a long and tortuous process, and the development of socialist countries faces a very complicated international environment and serious risks and challenges," Xi said, according to CCTV.

A couple of hackers claimed to have carried out a cyber-attack against British hotel chain Holiday Inn owner Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) “for fun”, causing massive booking disruptions.

The firm operates 6,000 hotels around the world, including the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent brands.

Following the attack, the hackers, calling themselves TeaPea, contacted BBC on the Telegram messaging app, providing screenshots as evidence that they carried out the hack.

The couple, who claimed to be from Vietnam, told BBC that they deleted large amounts of data after they were&nbsp;prevented from carrying out a ransomware attack.

"Our attack was originally planned to be ransomware but the company's IT team kept isolating servers before we had a chance to deploy it, so we thought to have some funny [sic]. We did a wiper attack instead," one of the hackers was quoted as saying

Through a wiper attack, data, documents and files are destroyed irreversibly, without having the possibility of recovering them.

They said that they were able to access the hotel chain's database due to a weak password that is found to be prevalent---Qwerty1234.

The firm's servers were hacked Monday last week after customers reported widespread problems with booking and check-in.

The problem persisted for over 24 hours, following which IHG posted its response on Twitter saying that the company was "undergoing system maintenance".

Later on Tuesday afternoon, the company confirmed that it fell prey to a cyber-attack.

"Booking channels and other applications have been significantly disrupted since yesterday," it said in an official notice lodged with the London Stock Exchange.

Vietnam: 32 killed, 11 severely injured in karaoke bar fire, says official

The outgoing&nbsp;Ambassador of Vietnam, Pham Sanh Chau, has said that defence now is "one of the most important pillars" of ties with India which "reflects a very high level of mutual strategic trust". The comments come even as defense engagement has seen many fold increase, including high level exchanges.&nbsp;

Remember earlier this year, during the visit of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, India handed over 12 high speed guard boats to the country. The boats were constructed under the Indian Government's $100 million defense line of credit to Vietnam. Relationship ranges from training to equipment purchase, to equipment production, to geopolitics, to sharing information."&nbsp;

During Defence Minister's visit, both sides had inked ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’ to enhance defence cooperation. Development comes, even as neighboring Philippines has agreed to buy Brahmos missile from India and interest has been seen from other ASEAN member countries as well.&nbsp;

Asked about the state of the relationship, the ambassador explained, "In the past 4 years, bilateral relations between India and Vietnam have reached a new height in all the areas. We have very frequencies of high-ranking delegations' exchange. We have very good economic relations, with trade reaching 15 billion USD, and a number of big investments in both countries in 2 ways."

Even as political ties have seen firming up, to increase people to people relation&nbsp;17 direct flights today run between 6 cities of India and 4 cities of Vietnam. Asked about his memories of India, the Ambassador said, "the fondest memory for me it's the people itself. India is very generous, Indians treat guest as God, I see this is true. “The American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization (WHO) have confirmed that homosexuality is entirely not an illness, therefore homosexuality cannot be ‘cured’ nor needs to be ‘cured’ and cannot be converted in any way.”&nbsp;

“Do not coerce members of these groups into medical treatment. If any, only provide psychiatric help, which must be conducted by experts with knowledge of gender identities.” it further added.&nbsp;

The directive was sent across the country to provincial and municipal health departments. According to local reports, the ministry released the statement to remove stigma after it was revealed that there were&nbsp;a growing number of medical institutes claiming to cure 'homosexuality'.&nbsp;

Simultaneously, the ministry advised&nbsp;medical professionals that they should treat the people from the rainbow community without any discrimination and with the utmost respect.&nbsp;

It was in 2014 that Vietnam&nbsp;decriminalised same-sex relationships. However, a certain stigma still prevailed. Experts believe that this gesture of educating the masses that same-sex relationship is not an illness might go a long way in improving the landscape for queer groups.&nbsp;

The next milestone for the LGBTQ+ activists is getting the authorities to repeal the same-sex marriage ban.&nbsp;

As reported by WION, the announcement by Vietnam comes days after another south east asian country in Singapore repealed the archaic colonial-era law to lift ban on gay sex.&nbsp;

Over 90 per cent of Apple products like iPhones, iPads and MacBook laptops are manufactured in China by outside contractors.

With Apple’s being exposed to potential manufacturing snags due to China’s zero-Covid police, the tech behemoth is already in talks with some of its contract manufacturers to look for alternatives, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people involved in the discussion.

Nikkei Asia reported that the lockdowns in Shanghai and Kunshan have forced Apple to halt production at three suppliers, which could have a much more significant impact – especially the Pegatron shutdown.

Pegatron, which roughly makes 20 to 30 per cent of all iPhones, had said in April that operations at its two production sites in Shanghai and Kunshan have been suspended to comply with government regulations.

Similarly, MacBook maker Quanta and iPad assembler Compal are the two other suppliers who also had to shut to comply with the Covid guidelines.

In Shanghai, 31&nbsp;companies&nbsp;run production facilities that supply to Apple.

Moreover, the Shanghai lockdown made a huge dent in Apple’s revenue for the April-June quarter as the company has indicated up to $8 billion loss in sales.

According to the government website, Vietnam also announced the resumption of 15 days’ visa-free travel for citizens from 13 countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Britain, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus.<o:p></o:p>

The country closed its border in March 2020 amid growing Coronavirus numbers before reopening to international tourism last November for visitors travelling in strict bubbles. According to an AFP report, the country saw 200,000 cases every day due to the Omicron variant.<o:p></o:p>

Although the number of cases dropped quite a bit due to the closed borders, the country suffered huge losses specially in the tourism industry. However, the health ministry believes that the situation “remains under control” with hospitalisation and death rates both staying low in the recent past.
