US popular podcaster Joe Rogan has said he is open to sitting down with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in his Texas studio, stressing, “I’ll do it at midnight if she’s up.”

Rogan Wednesday (Oct 30) also defended his earlier decision to reject Harris interview citing the demands that she put for the podcast to be recorded: Limiting the record time to 1 hour and record it outside his studio.

Criticising Harris for “being a diva,” Rogan said on his “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast: “She had an opportunity to come. You could look at this and you can say, ‘Oh, you’re being a diva,’ but she had an opportunity to come here when she was in Texas — and I literally gave them an open invitation.”

“I said anytime. I said if she’s done at 10, we’ll come back here at 10. I go, I’ll do it at 9 in the morning, I’ll do it at 10 p.m. I’ll do it at midnight if she’s up, if she wants to, you know, drink a Red Bull,” he added.

A second Donald Trump presidency could amplify efforts by conservative politicians to restrict abortion access across the United States.

Here's a closer look at the legal tools available to a future administration intent on limiting abortion access — and how abortion rights defenders are preparing to fight back.

<h2>Federal actions</h2>

For advocates of abortion rights, the nightmare scenario is a Republican-controlled Congress enacting sweeping national restrictions or an outright ban.

Vice President Kamala Harris has championed a federal law protecting abortion, but that would require Democratic control of the House, Senate, and presidency.

If Trump wins, but Republicans, do not control Congress, he could still "do a lot of damage to abortion access" through federal actions and judicial appointments, American University law professor Lewis Grossman told AFP.

The Republican former president's Supreme Court picks were pivotal in dismantling decades of legal precedent protecting the national right to abortion.

While Trump has at times hinted at moderation during the 2024 campaign — even suggesting he might veto any anti-abortion law that lands on his desk — some fear Project 2025 as the real battle plan.

Published by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, the document offers a roadmap for harsher executive branch restrictions, developed with input from former Trump officials. Trump has publicly distanced himself from the document.

<h2>New conditions on abortion pills</h2>

Experts predict abortion pills could be Trump's first target.

Mifepristone, which prevents pregnancy progression, and misoprostol, which empties the uterus, accounted for nearly two-thirds of US abortions last year, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Medical abortion, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration since 2000, used to require in-clinic visits. However, during COVID-19, telehealth briefly opened access by mail, a policy that Joe Biden's government made permanent in 2021.

A Trump administration might reinstate in-person requirements or roll back other eased regulations, said George Washington University law professor Sonia Suter -- a simpler step than rescinding approval, though that is also possible.

Angie Jean-Marie of Plan C, a nonprofit focused on abortion access, said that if access to mifepristone is restricted, providers may rely on misoprostol alone, a potential workaround since it's already approved for various medical uses and subject to fewer regulations.

If Harris wins, Jean-Marie says advocates would push for her to make the pills available without a prescription.

<h2>Reviving obscenity law</h2>

Anti-abortion activists are eyeing the Comstock Act, a 19th-century law prohibiting the mailing of "obscene" materials, including items for "producing abortion."

The US Justice Department under Biden currently interprets this law as inapplicable to approved abortion pills.

But Suter told AFP that a broad interpretation could apply that to "anything used to produce an abortion -- materials for surgical abortions -- which could effectively create a national ban."

This could disrupt the supply chain in clinics and hospitals across states where abortion is currently legal -- or where it may soon be permitted through state-level referendums on November 5.

Conservative lawyer and scholar Josh Craddock told AFP: "There is nothing nefarious or 'backdoor' about enforcing the laws that Congress has enacted and repeatedly reaffirmed. "

<h2>Judicial appointments and more</h2>

A Trump administration could also seek to undo the stringent patient privacy protections put in place by Biden for women seeking abortions out-of-state, said Suter, paving the way for possible prosecutions when they return home.

Although the Supreme Court's conservative majority has already overturned Roe v Wade, experts say the power to appoint federal judges remains paramount.

Courts may soon be called to decide the fate of state laws that make it harder for women to access care in more abortion-friendly states, Grossman explained.

Jean-Marie emphasised that pro-abortion groups aren't sitting idle.

"If Trump wins, there's much to prepare in those weeks before inauguration," she said, noting strategies like pill stockpiling, overseas sourcing and community support networks.

Pro-abortion organizations also are launching the "You Have Options" campaign to make sure women have access to critical resources, no matter who wins on November 5.

Harris vs Trump: Hedge fund titan says US elections 2024 a ‘coin toss’ race whose winner is...

Vice President and the Republican presidential candidate Kamala Harris has campaigned hard to defeat her Democrat rival Donald Trump in the US Presidential election to be held on November 5, 2024. And in this journey, there have been people who have been of immense support to her. One among them is Harris' younger sister Maya Harris.

<h2>Who is Maya Harris?</h2>

Kamala and Maya were born in Oakland, California to a Jamaican American father and Indian American mother. While both the sisters were young their parents divorced. They then went on to live with their mother after the separation in the early 1970s.

Maya grew up to earn her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and later pursue a career in law from Stanford Law School. It is here that she met her husband Tony West.

Maya herself is inclined towards politics and has played an important role in helping Kamala with her presidential campaign.

She has worked as senior policy adviser for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign's policy agenda. Maya has also served as campaign chairperson of her sister's 2020 presidential campaign.

She also previously served as the vice president of democracy, rights and justice, and an officer of the philanthropic foundation, the Ford Foundation.&nbsp;

Speaking to PEOPLE about the kind of relationship both the sisters share, Maya said, "I will always support her, stand by her side and have her back the way I know she has mine."

"She’s a force. She's fearless, she's relentless, she's tough, she's courageous. I mean, she really has been that way since we were kids. She's never backed down from a challenge," she further added.

US election 2024: Who is Kamala Harris' sister? all about....

Just a few days back, on Sunday (Oct 27), a comedian at a Donald Trump rally in New York City made the headlines for all the wrong reasons and sent the US election race into the "garbage" so to say.

During his opening set at Madison Square Garden, Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made comments that leaned into racial stereotypes, including a jab calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage," sparking widespread backlash.

<h2 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:119,&quot;w&quot;:987,&quot;h&quot;:25,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:1961}">Who is Tony Hinchcliffe?</h2>

Hinchcliffe is a comedian known for making offensive remarks and a "roast" style of insult comedy.

He began his career in 2007 and has opened for the likes of popular comedians like Joe Rogan and Jeff Ross.

Since 2013, he has hosted a weekly podcast, "Kill Tony" with the comedian and podcast producer Brian Redban.

In 2020, he made a comment on Kobe Bryant, the day the basketball star died in a helicopter crash.&nbsp;Hinchcliffe, in a risky joke on Twitter (now X), referred to Kobe's reputation of hogging the ball and said: "Kobe passing? That can't be true."

The next year, in 2021, he was in the headlines for using a racial slur to describe Peng Dang, an Asian American stand-up comedian and actor.

At the time, amid heavy criticism, he refused to apologise and told Variety, "I knew that what I had done was not wrong."

"My stance is that comedians should never apologize for a joke, should never stop working if everyone comes after them and should never slow down. In fact, they should utilize anything that happens to them for more material," He added.

Who is Tony Hinchcliffe? The comedian who sent US election into 'garbage'

A popular vote in an election means that when a voter picks up a ballot and marks their preferred candidate's name, those votes are counted directly.

In the United States, the popular vote refers to the total number of votes cast in favour of a candidate, contrasting with the Electoral Votes that ultimately determine who becomes president. While the popular vote does not directly decide the next leader, the candidate who wins the most popular votes in a state typically receives all of that state's Electoral College votes, according to the winner-takes-all rule, implemented in most states.

In US presidential election history, there have been five instances where candidates have won the presidency despite receiving fewer popular votes than their opponents.

The decisive state was Florida, where Bush won by a razor-thin margin. Ultimately, Bush received 271 electoral votes—one more than the halfway mark—while Gore won the overall popular vote.

Beyond the presidency, several elections are determined by popular vote, including elections for senators and representatives. Senators are elected based on the total number of popular votes in each state, while House members are elected from their respective congressional districts. Gubernatorial races, state legislative elections, and various municipal offices are also determined by popular vote.

The ongoing disparity between popular and electoral votes has sparked debates about electoral reform. While Electoral College votes ultimately decide who will lead the country, popular votes serve as an important indicator of public support and voter sentiment.

A popular vote in an election means that when a voter picks up a ballot and marks their preferred candidate's name, those votes are counted directly. In the United States, the popular vote refers to the total number of votes cast in favour of a candidate, contrasting with the Electoral Votes that ultimately determine who becomes president.

For starters, the history of all US presidents to date can be broadly classified into seven categories; starting right from George Washington belonging to the founding era to modern era President Joe Biden. Let’s have a look at the USA’s presidential history, spanning 46 presidents so far.

The timeline starts in 1789, with President George Washington at the helm. The period from 1789 to 1825 is considered the founding era of the United States, which saw presidents like John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe. During this period, America opposed European colonialism.

The next era, from 1825 to 1861, was marked by significant expansions and divisions of the country. This era saw presidents like Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan. It was during this era that the US gained Oregon territory, along with California and New Mexico.

Then came the era of civil war, starting from 1861 to 1877. Abraham Lincoln led the country through the Civil War and also ensured the end of slavery. Lincoln was later assassinated. Other&nbsp;leaders who emerged in this era were Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant. Grant is known for fighting for the rights of African American migrants.

The era of industrialisation came next, lasting from 1877 to 1921, overseen by two presidents: Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. World War 1 happened during this era, leading to the formation of the League of Nations.

The great depression era slammed the brakes on the USA’s economic advance. President Herbert Hoover’s (1929 - 1933) policies were widely criticised in the US during this time. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933 - 1945) became the next leader and led the country through World War 2.

US President Joe Biden has come under fire for his retaliatory comments to the "floating island of garbage" remark made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a Donald Trump rally in New York City.

During a campaign call, in what can be perceived as disparaging comments towards Trump supporters, Biden responding to the inflammatory remarks by Hinchcliffe said: "The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters."

He also slammed Trump's rhetoric against Latinos, calling it "unconscionable" and "un-American".

Seizing on Biden's remarks, Trump at a rally in swing state Pennsylvania labelled the comments "terrible" likening them to Hillary Clinton's infamous "deplorables" comment made during the 2016 election. The Republican said "Garbage, I think, is worse".

Trump's running mate JD Vance also criticised the comment, slamming Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of "attacking half of the country."

The White House later clarified that the US President was not targeting Trump's supporters but his&nbsp;divisive rhetoric. In a statement, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates emphasised that Biden had referred to "the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as 'garbage'."

During his opening set at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (Oct 27), Hinchcliffe made comments that leaned into racial stereotypes, including a jab calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage," sparking widespread backlash.

Leaning into the racist stereotype that Latinos are preoccupied with childbearing and averse to birth control, the comedian said they "love making babies" and do not "pull out".

"There's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now," Hinchcliffe said, adding, "I think it's called Puerto Rico."

US Election 2024: Avoid voter suppression with these essential tips

In less than a week, millions in the United States will cast their ballot in the hard-to-predict 2024 US Presidential elections. With recent polls showing the two top candidates — Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris — engaged in a neck-to-neck race, every vote matters.

If you or someone you know has a disability and is confused about voting easily, do not fret. In&nbsp;America, there are specific laws to ensure that voters with special needs do not face any barriers while casting their votes.&nbsp;

Here's a lowdown:&nbsp;

<h2 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:167,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:26,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:1852}">Laws for voters with disabilities</h2>

There are several federal laws that protect the voting rights of Americans with disabilities. These include the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

HAVA, 2002, mandates that every polling station must have at least one Accessible Voting Machine (AVM).

While many states let people with disabilities vote absentee by mail, voters with disabilities have the right to vote in private, without help at a polling booth; Have an accessible polling place with special voting machines.

Polling places are required to have wheelchair-accessible voting booths; entrances and doorways at least&nbsp;32 inches wide; handrails on all stairs and voting equipment for people who are blind or visually impaired.

Voters with a disability may seek help from poll workers trained to use an accessible voting machine or bring someone to help them vote.&nbsp;

Some states also offer "curbside voting," when a poll worker brings them everything they need to vote from their car. Alternatively, some local organisations also provide transportation to the polls.

<h2 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:546,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:26,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:2231}">What is an AVM?</h2>

Accessible Voting Machines (AVMs) are voting equipment designed to meet a range of needs, including support for voters with mobility, visual, auditory, or cognitive disabilities.

These are usually equipped with touchscreens (so the user doesn't have to handle a physical ballot), audio assistance, braille keypads (for visually impaired voters) etc.

The usa.gov website suggests that voters with a disability should contact their state or local election office for accommodations they may need.

These machines allow voters with disabilities to cast their ballots independently and privately. While each machine may vary slightly depending on the type and brand, here's a general guide on how to use them:

<h3 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:840,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:20,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:2525}">1. Ask for help</h3>

Voters with disabilities are required to inform a poll worker if they require assistance.

Based on the voters' needs, poll workers help set up accessibility options.

These include headphones, braille keypads, touchscreens with adjustable font sizes, contrast, colour options and adaptive devices like a sip-and-puff system or foot pedal, for voters with limited hand movement.

<h3 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:1036,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:20,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:2721}">3. Follow on-screen or audio instructions</h3>

The AVM will guide you through the voting process. Just follow the instructions relayed through your touchscreen or audio device.

<h3 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:1126,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:20,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:2811}">4. Review and confirm your vote</h3>

Once the selections are made, AVMs usually show a review screen. For users with an audio disability, an audio confirmation might be available.&nbsp;

<h3 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:1217,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:20,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:2902}">5. Submit ballot</h3>

Once you've confirmed your selection, submit the ballot.

Note: For people with language barriers — who cannot read or write — federal laws allow them to bring someone to the polling booth to help.

Some states also offer "curbside voting," when a poll worker brings them everything they need to vote from their car. Alternatively, some local organisations also provide transportation to the polls. What is an AVM? Accessible Voting Machines (AVMs) are voting equipment designed to meet a range of needs, including support for voters with mobility, visual, auditory, or cognitive disabilities. These are usually equipped with touchscreens (so the user doesn't have to handle a physical ballot), audio assistance, braille keypads (for visually impaired voters) etc. Also read | US elections 2024: Is proxy voting allowed? All you need to know How to vote as a disabled voter: A step-by-step process The usa.gov website suggests that voters with a disability should contact their state or local election office for accommodations they may need. These machines allow voters with disabilities to cast their ballots independently and privately. While each machine may vary slightly depending on the type and brand, here's a general guide on how to use them: 1. Ask for help Voters with disabilities are required to inform a poll worker if they require assistance. 2. Set up accessibility features Based on the voters' needs, poll workers help set up accessibility options. These include headphones, braille keypads, touchscreens with adjustable font sizes, contrast, colour options and adaptive devices like a sip-and-puff system or foot pedal, for voters with limited hand movement. 3. Follow on-screen or audio instructions The AVM will guide you through the voting process. Just follow the instructions relayed through your touchscreen or audio device. 4. Review and confirm your vote Once the selections are made, AVMs usually show a review screen. For users with an audio disability, an audio confirmation might be available. 5. Submit ballot Once you've confirmed your selection, submit the ballot. Note: For people with language barriers — who cannot read or write — federal laws allow them to bring someone to the polling booth to help.

The United States Supreme Court on Tuesday (Oct 29) turned down Robert F. Kennedy Jr's emergency appeal to remove his name from presidential ballots in Wisconsin and Michigan.&nbsp;

Kennedy argued that staying on the ballot violated his First Amendment rights by misleading voters and wrongly implying that he still wanted to be the US president.

US Supreme Court blocks Robert Kennedy Jr's appeal to remove his name from ballots—but why?

Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, on Monday (Oct 28) defended the publication's decision to not endorse Democratic Party's presidential nominee Kamala Harris. In an opinion piece published on the Post's website, Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.com and Blue Origin, said it was a "principled decision".

This comes as reports claimed that more than 200,000 users, about 8 per cent of its total subscribers, have cancelled their online subscriptions to the Washington Post after the popular news outlet decided not to endorse a candidate in the upcoming US presidential elections.

"What presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias. A perception of non-independence," Bezos wrote.

"Ending them is a principled decision."

Bezos also denied allegations that the lack of endorsement had something to do with the meeting between Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp meeting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"I would also like to be clear that no quid pro quo of any kind is at work here," said Bezos.

US elections: Jeff Bezos has this to say on WaPo's decision to not endorse Kamala Harris

Shares of Trump Media, the company behind the social media platform Truth Social, skyrocketed over 21 per cent on October 28, spurred by Donald Trump’s campaign rally in New York City.

According to a report by CNBC, the stock closed at $47.36 per share, surpassing its mid-July peak, which was fuelled by the heightened attention following a near-assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. This earlier surge was followed by a significant sell-off, which saw the stock plummet to below $12 by late September.

However, the company made a remarkable recovery throughout October, coinciding with the intensifying presidential race against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump, who owns nearly 57 per cent of Trump Media, saw the value of his stake rise to about $5.4 billion at Monday’s intraday high, reflecting an increase of around $4 billion since the stock’s September lows.

Despite these fluctuations, analysts have often pointed out that Trump Media’s market value and volatile stock performance are not primarily driven by company news or the platform's modest revenue and audience size. Instead, they suggest that the stock serves as a vehicle for pro-Trump retail investors to express their support for the former president and as a barometer for his chances of regaining the White House.

The recent surge in stock price appears to correlate with a renewed sense of enthusiasm among supporters after Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, which attracted thousands of attendees in a predominantly Democratic city. A user on Truth Social celebrated the rally, noting, “Our dear President @realDonaldTrump packs MSG yesterday for the Rally of a lifetime and TODAY, the entire market is UP UP UP!!! $DJT.”

Traditional polling indicates a close race<o:p></o:p>

This spike in stock value aligns with a shift in political betting markets, where Trump’s odds appear to be improving, even as traditional polling indicates a close race. Betting platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi use different methodologies than conventional polls, raising questions about their reliability as indicators of political outcomes.

Recent concerns have emerged about potential manipulation in the election betting markets. For instance, Polymarket reported that a single individual from France amassed a significant pro-Trump position on its presidential election bets through four separate accounts.

As the election approaches, the dynamics of Trump Media’s stock, its investor base, and the broader political landscape remain linked, reflecting the fervor surrounding Trump’s campaign. Still, with a close race, it is just a matter of few more days before the US has a new President.

US presidential election: How to stay informed as a non-citizen during polls?

However polarised the United States presidential elections may have become, one thing that remains common across the aisles is the profound visibility of people with roots here in India.

Be it Usha Vance, the wife of the running mate of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump; be it Vivek Ramaswamy, whom Trump has promised a seat in his administration; and be it Kamala Harris herself, the Democratic candidate—all of them are Indian-Americans.

When JD Vance’s name was declared as Trump’s running mate, reports about his&nbsp;wife soon took over the internet. It was also&nbsp;revealed how Usha’s Hindu faith had helped Vance navigate his own spiritual and professional journey.

JD Vance,&nbsp;in his bestselling 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy,&nbsp;writes how he is deeply influenced by his wife.

"She instinctively understood the questions I didn't even know to ask, and she always encouraged me to seek opportunities that I didn't know existed."

Usha was born in 1986 to Hindu parents who migrated from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

In a 2020 interview, JD Vance even said, “I'm one of those guys who really benefits from having sort of a powerful female voice over his left shoulder saying, 'Don't do that … do that.'"

<h2>Indian roots of Kamala Harris</h2>

Kamala Harris, who is hoping to become the first-ever female president of the US, is herself of Indian origin.

Her ancestral village in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu erupted in joy in 2020 for the first time when she became the vice president of the US. Kamala Harris’ mother Shyamala Gopalan moved to the US to pursue graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Then, Shyamala happened to marry Donald Harris, Kamala’s father.

Then there is the Indian-origin ‘outsider’ who has left an impression on voters on both sides of the aisle: Vivek Ramaswamy.

<h2>Indian voters</h2>

The India connection to US elections is deepened by the presence of a large Indian diaspora on American soil, wielding significant influence in some counties.

Indians are known for participating in the voting exercise in large numbers. In 2020, the turnout of Indian voters was 71 per cent, the biggest among Asian communities.

Indian Americans are the second-largest immigrant group in the US now, with over 5.2 million people of Indian origin residing in the US.

However polarised the United States presidential elections may have become, one thing that remains common across the aisles is the profound visibility of people with roots here in India.

US elections 2024 | Kamala, Usha and Vivek: The most-Indianised polls ever

As United States presidential elections are around the corner, Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris are locked in a neck-to-neck race.&nbsp;

One week ahead of election day, November 5, more than 43 million ballots have been cast across 47 states and the District of Columbia, according to data collected by CNN, Edison Research, and Catalist.&nbsp;

The pre-election voting across the US is more than a quarter of the roughly 158 million votes cast for US presidential elections in 2020.&nbsp;

<h2>How to avoid long lines on poll day?</h2>

Early voting has made the election process easier by helping voters avoid these long queues and also giving more flexibility to those who might not be able to make it to the polling station&nbsp;on election day.&nbsp;

However, early voting also works differently for different states. Casey Burgat, director of the Legislative Affairs Program at George Washington University said, “We just say ‘early’ as this catch-all term, but sometimes it's months in advance, sometimes it's a few weeks, and then [there are] even the differences in [state] processes.”

In terms of precautionary measures, voters should keep in mind that there will be lines at certain times at early voting sites and election day polling stations. For that, they should come in comfortable shoes, bring a chair if you have difficulty standing, and also pack water to keep yourself hydrated while standing in the lines.

US Elections: How to avoid long queues on polling day? All you need to know about tips and timing

The US&nbsp;election campaign, the world’s longest and most expensive, ends next week but it will probably take days before the winner will be announced. No matter whether it will be Democrat Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, a majority of Americans fear a violent aftermath.

According to a poll taken 12 days before November 5, almost two-thirds of those who responded anticipated post-election violence.

Such fears have been stoked by two attempts to assassinate former president Donald Trump, a tsunami of misinformation, increasingly harsh rhetoric and memories of the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol in Washington by followers of Trump.

They wanted to stop the peaceful transfer of power, a hallmark of a functioning democracy, from&nbsp;Trump, who claimed the elections were rigged, to Democrat Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris.

Her campaign for the presidency has featured numerous ads with videos of the unprecedented attack on the Capitol as a reminder of the first coup attempt in American history. Crowds waving Trump flags broke through police barriers, smashed windows and rampaged through the halls.

More than 170 police officers were wounded and one died. A rioter was shot by Capitol police as she tried to crawl through a smashed window. Trump was impeached for incitement of insurrection a week before his term officially expired. The Senate acquitted him, falling short of the 60-vote majority needed to convict.

Trump still insists the 2020&nbsp;elections were stolen, called those sentenced to prison terms (around 250) “patriots” and termed January 6, 2021 “a day of love.” Neither Trump nor his running mate, JD&nbsp;Vance, have committed to accept the result of next week’s elections.

Fears of fresh violence are shared by voters of both parties – 70% of Democrats and 59% of Republicans surveyed on how they viewed the election aftermath.

Police in Washington are so concerned about the unrest that Police Chief Pamela Smith has said she plans to draw an additional 4,000 officers from around the country to help maintain order between election day and the new president’s inauguration next January 6.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said the bureaucratic procedures for calling in the National Guard had also changed to make it easier for police to request swift help in the 11-week period between next Tuesday and inauguration day.

Bowser, a Democrat in a thoroughly democratic city, painted different scenarios for post-election events.

No need for police enforcement or the National Guard, she told reporters, if Harris wins to become the first woman president and commander-in-chief in US&nbsp;history. In that case, “the issue is probably a million people will be here who are celebrating and who are in good spirits. But that also presents challenges to make sure everybody can do it safely.”

A string of polls has shown a slight lead for Harris on the popular vote but in America’s antiquated electoral system, the candidate who wins most votes does not necessarily win. In 2016, for example, Hillary Clinton had almost 2.9 million more popular votes than Trump.

But Trump won the Electoral College with 306 votes against Clinton’s 232. Dating back to 1787, the Electoral College has 538 members who function as intermediaries to select the president and vice president. Each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia is allocated electors equal to the number of its representatives and senators.

The system favours small and rural states and in this election, victory depends on the votes of seven “swing states” where surveys show there are still voters who have not decided on which candidate they prefer.

They are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and the number of undecided voters there is thought to be fewer than 200,000, a sliver of the 244 million Americans eligible to vote.

After US elections, America faces dark clouds

With a compelling track record of predicting the economy, Christophe Barraud has taken an interest in the upcoming 2024 US presidential elections. The top economist said in an interview that growth is expected to pick up pace after the election results are out. This is because companies will be able to make bigger decisions once they are certain about the changes likely to happen in the economy, leading to an increase in GDP of the country.

<h2>What Christophe Barraud predicts for US 2024 elections</h2>

Ranked as number one economist by Bloomberg, Barraud has forecast&nbsp;three possible outcomes of the US elections, according to Business Insider.

In the first scenario, if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the upcoming elections with a split in Congress, not much will change for the US economy. In this case, Barraud predicts things will remain the same.

In the second scenario, former president Donald Trump wins but Congress is divided, Trump will not be able to easily cut taxes for businesses and households. This will lead him to focus on foreign policies that will likely result in trade restrictions and tariffs being implemented. Outcome of this will not affect the US economy in the short term. However, it may affect the global economy, and may prove harmful for the US in the long run, according to Business Insider.

Barraud’s third and most likely scenario is predicted to be Trump wins with a Republican majority. In this case, Trump might cut taxes for companies and households and will likely focus more on domestic policies. This may leave a positive impact on the US economy in the short term, with an expected rise of 2.1 to 2.3 per cent in 2025.

However, Barraud highlights a concern that in case Trump is elected and implements tax cuts,&nbsp;it may result in revenue shortfalls. The 10-year Treasury bond may rise to at least 4.5 per cent from the current 4.23 per cent. If Trump doesn’t get a majority in Congress, the bond could increase to 4.35 per cent, while if he wins by majority, the bond may go as high as 5 per cent. This will happen as investors may seek a higher risk premium, especially if Trump toughens the immigration policy in a healthy job market that will result in more inflation.

Here's what world’s top economist predicts about US election result and its impact on economy

US intelligence agencies have identified domestic extremists, driven by conspiracy theories about election fraud, as the most significant threat of violence leading up to and following the 2024 election.&nbsp;

US intelligence report warns Trump-backed election conspiracy theories pose 'significant' extremism threat

Bitcoin briefly climbed above $70,000 as investors braced themselves for MicroStrategy earnings and counted the days to the US presidential election according to a detailed report by CNBC.

The CNBC report further explained that, the price of bitcoin was last higher by about 3 per cent at $69,925.00, according to Coin Metrics. Further, at about 6:00 p.m. Eastern on October 28, it touched $70,207.02 and has been oscillating since.

Stocks tied to the price of the cryptocurrency were little changed in extended trading. In regular trading on October 28, crypto exchange platform Coinbase rallied by 5 per cent and bitcoin proxy MicroStrategy soared by nearly 9 per cent.

The last time bitcoin touched $70,000 was in June of this year. It has tested that level several times this year, after hitting a record of $73,797.68 in March. Earlier forays above $70,000 have been limited to mere blips.

Optimism is building towards the US elections<o:p></o:p>

Optimism is building ahead of the US presidential election next week. Bitcoin has been confined to a tight range between $55,000 and $70,000.

Still, it may be poised for a breakout with stocks hitting new highs this month. As there are major events to follow in the first week of November, election day on November 5 and another Federal Reserve rate policy decision on November 7.

Donald Trump has presented himself as pro-crypto<o:p></o:p>

Republican nominee and former president Donald Trump has been courting the crypto industry this year and presented himself as the pro-crypto candidate. Whereas democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris have been more muted on crypto, and the industry is split on how her potential presidency could affect crypto companies.

The outcome is widely viewed as a key catalyst for future price action in the bitcoin, but investors have watching and waiting as the election approaches. Last week, bitcoin surged toward $70,000, but it ultimately fell short of the threshold.

Investors are also watching for earnings from Coinbase and MicroStrategy, both slated for October 30. On October 28, MicroStrategy, which trades as a high-beta play on the price of bitcoin, registered its highest close since March 15, 2000. MicroStrategy is looking to extend its seven-week win streak, its longest since rally since an 11-week streak that ended in late October 2010.

Market participants and investors are going to closely watch these developments in bitcoin and take informed investment decisions based on the outcome of the US elections.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris narrowly leads Republican rival Donald Trump in the US presidential race, according to the latest opinion poll by statistical website FiveThirtyEight, just days ahead of Election Day.

The data from its daily election poll tracker also reveals that the US vice president's razor-thin edge has slightly decreased over the past two months, while Trump has secured a 0.9 percentage-point gain since October 1.

However, after factoring in the Electoral College outcome, the US pollster says its model shows Trump has a 54 out of 100 chance of winning the election, while Harris has a 46 out of 100 chance.

According to the poll analysis site, the contest will boil down to the seven swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — which account for 90 electoral votes.

FiveThirtyEight credits its forecast to a combination of polls and campaign "fundamentals" such as economic conditions, state partisanship and incumbency, as per its website.

In 2012, the site also predicted Obama's re-election with more than a 90 per cent chance.

However, in 2016, Nate Silver faced criticism as his prediction model gave Donald Trump a mere 29 per cent chance of winning. Trump went on to win his first shot at the presidency, becoming the 45th POTUS.

The website adopted a more nuanced approach in 2020, forecasting Joe Biden's victory but calling it a 'fine line between a landslide and nail-biter'. When the results trickled in, Joe Biden won 306 electoral votes against Donald Trump's 232.

Chinese hackers allegedly intercept calls, texts of Trump, Harris campaigns ahead of 2024 US election

The United States is gearing up for the big Election Day — Nov 5. As the nation readies to elect its next president, early voting has already begun in many of the 50 US states. The election race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris is tighter than ever.&nbsp;

Those voting for the first time may be wondering if they need to bring an ID to vote. Here's your answer.

Voters without any form of ID can often sign an affidavit or have an election official confirm their identity to vote as usual.

This comment comes as Musk has increasingly engaged in political discourse, often echoing anti-immigration sentiments similar to those of former President Donald Trump, whom he has endorsed.

In response to Biden's remarks, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to assert: "I was in fact allowed to work in the US," and dismissed Biden's claims as false.

"The Biden puppet is lying," he claimed.

The Washington Post, on Saturday (Oct 16) reported that during a brief period in the 1990s, South African-born billionaire Musk worked illegally in the US while building his startup company Zip2.

It further highlighted concerns from investors at Zip2 about Musk's immigration status, noting that he was under pressure to secure a work visa. Citing two immigration law experts,&nbsp;the report noted that, to maintain valid work authorisation as a student, Musk would have needed to be enrolled in a full course of study. Instead, he allegedly focused on his startup, Zip2, which he sold in 1999 for around $300 million.

'And he's talking about illegals': Biden slams Musk over 'illegal worker' claims; Tesla CEO hits back

With the US presidential election heading into the home stretch, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will likely be hoping for Donald Trump to return to the White House.

Trump's last time in office was good for Netanyahu, and in the lead-up to the November 5 vote, the former president has sent mixed messages on his Middle East policy.

His remarks have ranged from encouraging Netanyahu to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities -- which Israel refrained from in its strikes Saturday -- to criticising the Israeli leader, saying "the October 7 attack would never have happened if I was president" and that he will pressure Israel to end the wars.

Yet it is these unclear policies, combined with Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan, that analysts say Netanyahu is hoping for.

An isolationist, Trump as a Republican president might give Netanyahu more freedom to navigate the conflicts that continue to rage in Gaza and Lebanon.

"One of Netanyahu's milestones is the US election. He is praying for a Trump victory, which he thinks will give him a lot of freedom of movement, which will let him do what he aspires," Gidon Rahat, political science professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, told AFP.

Aviv Bushinsky, a political commentator and Netanyahu's former chief of staff, similarly said: "His experience with Republicans is very good... unlike with the Democrats who are much tougher on him."

In 17 years as prime minister, Netanyahu has only served opposite one Republican leader, Trump.

During his presidency, Trump went ahead with several moves that boosted Netanyahu's domestic standing while upending some long-standing US policies on Israel, its conflict with the Palestinians and the wider region.

The Republican president moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, which Israel claims as its undivided capital, recognised Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, and oversaw the normalisation of ties between three Arab states and Israel.

Trump also withdrew from a landmark nuclear deal with Israel's arch-foe Iran and reimposed tough economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

President Joe Biden, meanwhile, has long had a frosty relationship with Netanyahu despite insisting on his "ironclad support" for Israel.

Unlike Trump, Biden had warned Netanyahu against striking Iran's oil production and nuclear facilities.

Trump and Netanyahu also enjoy a close personal relationship, with the former US president boasting this week of having had frequent phone calls with the Israeli premier.

"We have a very good relationship," Trump said at a rally in Georgia. "We're going to work with them very closely."

Those positives will outweigh any concerns, said Bushinsky.

"I think Netanyahu would be willing to take the risk of Trump's unpredictability," he said.

Trump is popular not just with Netanyahu but with the Israeli public.&nbsp;

Only 14 per cent chose Vice President Kamala Harris, despite her repeatedly declaring her support for Israel and its right to defend itself.

"In Israel, more than any other liberal democracy outside the United States, Trump is more popular than Harris," said Nadav Tamir, a former Israeli diplomat to the United States and a member of Mitvim's board of directors.

A new Trump administration, though, could come with surprises, according to Tamir.

The former president has increasingly surrounded himself with Republicans "who are isolationists and don't want America to be the leader of the free world or international alliances", he said.

Among Palestinians there is little enthusiasm for either candidate, said Khalil Shikaki, a Palestinian political scientist and pollster.

"Palestinians distrust both candidates and see little difference between them," he said.

Taher al-Nunu, a Hamas official, told AFP that he believed "successive US administrations have always been biased" towards Israel.

On the street, Palestinians said no matter who wins, life in their territories will not improve.

"I do not believe that the American elections will have a positive impact on our political reality," said Leen Bassem, a 21-year-old student at Birzeit University in the occupied West Bank.

Hassan Anwar, 42, a sound engineer, also said he did not believe there was any difference, "because American policy is completely clear in its support and backing of Israel".

US Elections: Will Trump's return to power benefit Netanyahu?

With less than 10 days left for the US presidential elections 2024, which are to be held on November 5, know the common mistakes to avoid while voting by mail.

Most US states allow voting by mail, in which ballots are sent to voters by mail before the election day and are to be returned by the day of the election.&nbsp;While this option allows voters to cast their ballots from the comfort of their homes, they may be more prone to human errors than casting a vote in person at a polling station. These errors may result in the rejection of the ballot and not being counted.

<h2>Here are some common mistakes to avoid while voting by mail:</h2>

<h3>Sending back the ballot too late</h3>

Another one of the most common mistakes that voters make while voting by mail is sending their ballots back too late. Make sure to check your state’s deadline and post them as early as possible so they reach the office in time.

<h3>Not filling out the ballot properly</h3>

Follow the instructions that come with the ballot carefully and fill out the ballot paper. Make sure to mark your option properly with the right colour otherwise, it may not be scanned. Make sure to seal it properly as per the laws of your state.

<h3>Not including required documents</h3>

It is required for a voter to submit a copy of documents required by their state while voting by mail. Failing to do so will lead to rejection of your vote.

<h3>Forgetting to sign the envelope</h3>

Every state requires the voter to sign an affidavit on the envelope containing the ballot. This is to confirm the voter’s identity. Read the instructions carefully and sign where it is required.

<h3>Using a different signature</h3>

If the voter’s signatures do not match their most recent signature on the file with the election office, it may lead to rejection of the ballot.
