Democrat Kamala Harris will kick off her 60th birthday on Sunday with two church visits in Georgia, where she plans to rally early voters, while her Republican rival, Donald Trump, spends time at a McDonald's fast food place in Pennsylvania.

Harris and Trump, who are essentially tied in the race president in the most competitive states, have sharpened their attacks in recent days, while drumming up support for early votes by mail or in person with just 16 days left until the Nov. 5 election.

After being joined on Saturday in Detroit by hometown rapper Lizzo and in Atlanta by pop icon Usher, Harris will get a birthday boost from another music legend, Stevie Wonder, on Sunday when he drops by one of the churches she plans to visit.

Kamala Harris rallies voters on 60th birthday as Trump takes McDonald's shift in Pennsylvania

With just 18 days until November 5, early voting has started in Louisiana, Hawaii, and Washington as of Friday, marking the official start of the 2024 election season.

With just 18 days until November 5, early voting has started in Louisiana, Hawaii, and Washington as of Friday, marking the official start of the 2024 election season. What is early voting? In the United States, voters typically have three ways to cast their ballots before Election Day, with mail-in voting being the most common for the upcoming presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Traditionally, voting involved heading to a polling station on Election Day to fill out a ballot in person. However, early in-person voting, absentee voting, and mail-in voting have become popular alternatives, giving voters the option to vote before the official Election Day, which is always the first Tuesday in November. Also read: Federal judge releases over 1,800 pages of previously sealed evidence in Trump election subversion case At least eight states automatically mail ballots to all registered voters, while 14 states still require voters to provide a reason to request an absentee ballot for mail-in voting. In three states—Alabama, Mississippi, and New Hampshire—there is no option for early in-person voting, though absentee voting may be available to those who qualify. What is absentee voting? Absentee voting is designed for people who are unable or choose not to vote in person at their designated polling station. This can be done through different methods such as voting at another location, mailing in a ballot, having someone else vote on their behalf (proxy voting), or voting online in some cases. Many believe that expanding access to absentee ballots helps increase voter participation by making the process more convenient, a practice known as "convenience voting." However, some countries require specific conditions, such as illness or travel, for absentee voting to be allowed. Who can vote absentee? Absentee voting is available for individuals who are unable to vote in person. This includes military personnel and their families who are stationed away from their home voting district, as well as U.S. citizens living abroad who once lived in the United States. However, US citizens born abroad who have never lived in the country may face restrictions on absentee voting. It's recommended to check the state's rules where the individual's parent or guardian last lived to determine eligibility. The window for early in-person voting varies from state to state, ranging from as short as three days to as long as 46 days before Election Day. In some places, early voting can start as early as 50 days before the election or as late as the Friday right before Election Day. Most states in the US allow voters to cast their ballots in person before November 5. According to The Center for Election Innovation & Research, nearly 97% of Americans of voting age live in a state that offers early voting. The number of people voting early increased between 2016 and 2020, largely because states expanded early voting options. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 also caused a sharp rise in early voting as more people chose to avoid the crowds at polling stations on Election Day. (With inputs from agencies)

Former United States president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his Democratic rival and current Vice President Kamala Harris are on a close edge ahead of the US presidential elections, with both the candidates holding rallies and addressing events across the country. The question on everyone’s mind is whether America will get its first woman president or a second Trump term. Trump and Harris both made several claims attacking each other at several campaign rallies and speeches. However, as the claims went through fact-checking, it was revealed some of the statements made by them were false, or only partially true. The two candidates faced off against each other during the 90-minute debate, held at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center on September 11, with both focusing on some of the pressing issues which concern the American voters. Later, Trump at a Fox News town hall event on Tuesday told several lies. A CNN fact check revealed that he made around 19 false claims in a one-hour interview. Donald Trump’s claims ‘Inflation during Biden’s tenure worst in our nation's history’ “We had the worst – they say it’s in 48 years I say ever. We had the worst inflation in the history of our country,” Trump said. However, the claim made by him is ‘false’ according to CNN fact check. While it is true that early in Joe Biden’s presidency, the annual inflation rate peaked at roughly nine per cent (June of 2022), however, that is not the highest it has ever been. In the immediate aftermath of World War II and during the oil embargo and shortages of the late '70s and early 1980s, the inflation rate peaked at 14.5 per cent, as per ABC News. ‘Sex change operations on minors’ Trump claimed, “Kamala supports states being able to take minor children and perform sex-change operations on them without their parents’ consent.” Watch | US Elections: Trump, Harris Try To Sway Voters To Balance The Elections × However, this was false as surgical procedures for minor children receiving gender-affirming care require parental consent. Moreover, she has not said she supports changing state laws, the New York Times reported. ‘Haitian migrants eating pets’ During the presidential debate between Trump and Harris in September, the former US president claimed that the Haitian migrants are “eating the pets of the people that live there”. When he was fact-checked by the debate moderator, Trump said that he saw people on television who said “their dog was eaten by the people that went there.” An Ohio city spokesperson told ABC News that there have been "no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals in the immigrant community,” terming Trump’s claims as false once again. ‘Every single job taken by a migrant worker’ In yet another claim made about the migrants, Trump said that almost every job was taken by them. “You know, the jobs, almost every single job, was taken by a migrant worker.” However, the number of native-born workers and foreign-born workers has both increased by millions in the US, under the Biden administration. Kamala Harris’ claims ‘Trump intends to cut Social Security and Medicare’ In one of her speeches from September, Harris claimed that Trump “intends to cut Social Security and Medicare.” However, during his 2024 presidential campaign, the former US president has repeatedly said that he would not cut Social Security and Medicare, though he had earlier, shown brief and vague support for such proposals, making Harris’ claims 'misleading'. ‘Goldman Sachs report saying Harris’s plan would grow economy, while Trumps’ plan would shrink’ Harris said, “In fact, independent economists like Goldman Sachs have said my plan would grow our economy and his plan would shrink the economy, reignite inflation, and send us into a recession by the middle of next year.” The claim was labelled as “exaggerating” as the Goldman Sachs analysis did show that Harris’ victory in November polls would lead to a “very slight boost” to economic growth, while a Trump’s victory, regardless of what happens in Congress, would cause growth to slow in 2025. But Goldman's chief executive said “A lot more has been made of this than should be,” given the report showed a mere “two-tenth of 1 percent” difference between the two cases. Trump ‘intends to end the Affordable Care Act’ Harris said, “On top of all of this, Donald Trump intends to end the Affordable Care Act.” According to the New York Times fact check, Trump has made vague and contradictory statements about his health care plan, and said that he would not end it but replace it only with “something better and less expensive.” (With inputs from agencies)

Movie On Trump Stirs Controversy

The US Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on Fox News with anchor Bret Baier on Wednesday (Oct 16) for one of her most challenging interviews to date. The interview quickly turned into a debate, with Baier pressing Harris on key issues like the border, President Biden’s fitness, and Donald Trump’s threat to democracy.

It had hints at what she plans to do if she wins the race for White House in the November 5 election. Here's what a Kamala Harris presidency would look like, based on her answers to Fox News.

Breaking with Biden, but not by much

Harris offered a rare distinction when asked how her presidency would differ from Joe Biden’s. “My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” she said, highlighting her focus on issues like housing and small businesses.

Though a clear attempt to distance herself slightly from the president, Harris’ comments were more rhetorical than substantive.

However, Biden himself recently hinted that he’s comfortable with Harris carving out her own path, saying, “She’s been loyal so far, but she’ll cut her own path.”

When Baier probed further, questioning Biden’s mental faculties, Harris stood firm, stating, “Mr. Biden is more than capable of leading the nation,” while calling Trump “unfit,” “unstable,” and “dangerous.”

Immigration and border security: Baier pushes Trump talking points

Throughout the interview, Baier echoed several of Trump’s key arguments. Nearly half of the 26-minute discussion centred on immigration and border security, areas where Harris has struggled to gain favour with undecided voters.

Baier highlighted stories of women who were victims of undocumented immigrants, a frequent Trump talking point.

At one point, Baier even played a clip from a Trump rally where the former president defended his controversial “enemy from within” comments.

In response, Harris pushed back, redirecting the conversation to Trump’s role in sabotaging bipartisan immigration reform.

Appealing to women voters

One of Harris’ key objectives in the interview was to connect with Republican women, a demographic her campaign hopes to sway.

However, Baier avoided discussing issues like abortion rights—topics that Harris’s campaign sees as crucial to winning over female voters. Instead, the conversation remained focused on border security.

When Baier pressed her on whether the Biden administration owed apologies to families of women killed by undocumented immigrants, Harris expressed condolences but pivoted to emphasise her prosecutorial record and the failures of Trump’s immigration policies.

“Let’s talk about what is happening right now with an individual who does not want to participate in solutions,” she said of Trump.

Repeated interruptions highlight gender dynamics

Harris faced frequent interruptions from Baier, drawing comparisons to how Matt Lauer treated Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

At one point, Harris had to assert, “You have to let me finish, please.” Despite the interruptions, Harris remained composed, a dynamic that may have resonated with the female viewers her campaign is targeting.

As the interview progressed, Baier acknowledged the interruptions, stating, “We’re talking over each other,” and apologised before the segment ended.

Limited success in reaching Republicans

Despite her efforts to appeal to Republicans, the interview underscored the difficulties Harris faces in winning over a largely sceptical conservative audience. Though she repeatedly pointed to former Trump administration officials who support her, the majority of Fox News viewers remain aligned with Trump.

Even some progressives are concerned about Harris’s attempts to reach across the aisle, worried that her focus on courting moderates could dampen enthusiasm among younger, liberal voters.

Flipping Trump’s transgender attack

When Baier played a Trump campaign ad accusing Harris of supporting taxpayer-funded gender transition care for prisoners, Harris was quick to turn the tables.

“I will follow the law, and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she said, pointing out that Trump’s administration provided similar treatments to inmates.

Breaking with Biden, but not by much Harris offered a rare distinction when asked how her presidency would differ from Joe Biden’s. “My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” she said, highlighting her focus on issues like housing and small businesses. Though a clear attempt to distance herself slightly from the president, Harris’ comments were more rhetorical than substantive. However, Biden himself recently hinted that he’s comfortable with Harris carving out her own path, saying, “She’s been loyal so far, but she’ll cut her own path.” When Baier probed further, questioning Biden’s mental faculties, Harris stood firm, stating, “Mr. Biden is more than capable of leading the nation,” while calling Trump “unfit,” “unstable,” and “dangerous.” Immigration and border security: Baier pushes Trump talking points Throughout the interview, Baier echoed several of Trump’s key arguments. Watch | US Elections 2024: Donald Trump Takes Betting Odds Lead Against Kamala Harris × Appealing to women voters One of Harris’ key objectives in the interview was to connect with Republican women, a demographic her campaign hopes to sway. Repeated interruptions highlight gender dynamics Harris faced frequent interruptions from Baier, drawing comparisons to how Matt Lauer treated Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election. Limited success in reaching Republicans Despite her efforts to appeal to Republicans, the interview underscored the difficulties Harris faces in winning over a largely sceptical conservative audience. Flipping Trump’s transgender attack When Baier played a Trump campaign ad accusing Harris of supporting taxpayer-funded gender transition care for prisoners, Harris was quick to turn the tables. “I will follow the law, and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she said, pointing out that Trump’s administration provided similar treatments to inmates. With a smile, she added, “That ad is a little bit of like throwing stones when you’re living in a glass house.”

What will a Kamala Harris presidency look like? What she said in her toughest interview: Recap and analysis

A viral video of a “tense” conversation between President Joe Biden and former president Barack Obama has sparked several theories on social media.

The seemingly uncomfortable conversation between the two was caught on camera during the service for Ethel Kennedy, the matriarch of the Kennedy family, at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Cathedral in Washington, DC.

The video does not have the audio of the conversation and only records the audio of the church organ as the two converse. Obama appears to say “no” and “not good” as he shakes his head.

During the conversation, Obama even turned away from Biden, after which Biden reached out to him and touched his arm.

2024 US Elections: In just a few weeks, on November 5, the United States of America will vote to elect its next president.

The two top candidates in this vital race for the White House are the Democratic Party nominee, the current US Vice-president Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party nominee, former president Donald Trump.

The upcoming 2024 presidential elections are very important to both the candidates. On one hand, Kamala Harris has set her sights on becoming the USA's first-ever female president and on the other, Donald Trump is attempting to achieve a feat only accomplished once earlier in US history: regaining the White House after losing it.

Driving the 2024 US Presidential elections are a number of issues of importance to voters. Let's take a look at some of the key issues and where the two candidates stand on them.

Economy

Amid concerns about the US' state of economy and inflation, about eight in 10, or 81 per cent of the voters, as per Pew Research, say that the economy will be very significant to their vote in the upcoming election.

Billionaire 'dying' to be US' 'secretary of cost-cutting,' says ex-president

Voters, as per reports, favour Trump on this issue and, according to News Gallup, 54 per cent in contrast to Harris's 45 per cent think he can better handle the American economy as the president.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion

One of the most contentious issues of the 2024 Presidential elections is abortion and reproductive rights of women.

A Pew Research poll found that while 67 per cent of Harris supporters view abortion as a key issue, only 35 per cent of Trump supporters share their view.

In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, which gave women all over the nation the right to abortion. This happened largely due to justices appointed by Trump, a feat the Republican has boasted about multiple times.

Harris has been vocal about her support for bringing back the federal protections for a woman's right to an abortion as they existed under Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, Trump, who at one time supported a national ban on the procedure, has softened his stance and now backs the individual state's right to choose.

A key issue and one of Trump's favourite topics, immigration, is important for 82 per cent of his supporters. Meanwhile, only 39 per cent of Harris supporters see it as vital to their vote.

Trump in his rally speeches and at the two debates — with President Joe Biden and Harris — has continued to vilify immigrants, calling them rapists, murderers, etc. Meanwhile, Harris, who has faced criticism for her immigration policies as the VP, has not detailed her position on the topic beyond voicing support for a border security bill.

Gun Policy

America is home to more guns than people, and they are to blame for a staggering number of deaths every year — over 48,000 in 2022, for example.

Despite the gun epidemic, i.e., the unbelievably high number of mishappening, and deaths due to guns, the Right to Bear arms remains a contentious issue.

For both Trump and Harris supporters, gun policies and/or gun rights are important. Among the supporters of the Republican candidate, 53 said the issue was key to them. 49 per cent of Harris supporters also share the sentiment.

Donald Trump has been a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and has even positioned himself as a "defender" of the right. As the president, he loosened some restrictions on gun ownership, appointed around 200 federal judges who had "gun-friendly" records, and even ensured that gun sales would continue during the early COVID-19 lockdowns.

His running mate JD Vance even went as far as calling the tragic school shootings that have become very common "a fact of life".

Harris, according to Scientific American, has a long history with the gun rights. During her career as a prosecutor, she supported stricter restrictions on gun ownership, as well as stronger enforcement of existing regulations. As a senator, she worked on legislation that would've mandated universal background checks. As a VP, she and Biden introduced US' first sweeping gun legislation in nearly three decades that enforced stronger background checks, and included a measure to keep guns away from domestic abuse offenders.

US Presidential Election 2024: What key issues are driving the polls? Where do Harris and Trump stand on them?

The United States has come far ahead from the time when fierce debates were held, public speeches were given and people marched in support of women's suffrage. Today, women voters play an equal role in government formation and have an equally significant impact on the presidential election results, with around 89 million women registered to vote this year.

The United States has come far ahead from the time when fierce debates were held, public speeches were given and people marched in support of women's suffrage. Today, women voters play an equal role in government formation and have an equally significant impact on the presidential election results, with around 89 million women registered to vote this year. In an effort to try to understand the political sentiment of these crucial women voters, the leading health policy and polling organisation of the United States, KFF, carried out various surveys among women voters and found that the wave has strongly shifted towards Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is at the losing end. This substantial shift in the political alignment of women voters has taken place over some key election issues like inflation, threats to democracy, and the increasing cost of healthcare with abortion trumping others but not in favour of Trump. "Kamala Harris's clear support for abortion rights resonates with many younger women voters, as data from the Pew Research Center shows that 63% of Americans favour legal abortion in most cases," said Annika Silva‑Leander, Head of North America and Permanent Observer to the United Nations, International IDEA, while speaking to WION. Referring to economic issues and inflation as "competing priorities" for the voters, Silva-Leander said, "Ultimately, while abortion may mobilize key segments of the electorate, the impact will depend on how voters balance these competing priorities, particularly in swing states." Trump's strained relations with women voters Days back while addressing a rally in Arizona, Trump was ogling his beautiful supporter and not really holding himself back from appreciating her beauty but moments later chose to go back on the path of political correctness by saying, "I'm not allowed to call you a beautiful woman". Also Read: Donald Trump to work in McDonald's, likely to try his hands on fry cooking This is not the first time Trump, who has been entangled in the hush money case with porn star Stormy Daniels, has been seen making uncomfortable remarks about women. "Trump's history of derogatory comments may alienate a demographic that is increasingly mobilised and engaged," said Saurabh Shukla, the founder of NewsMobile and strategic affairs expert, while speaking to WION from Washington, DC, United States. The culture of male dominance in Trump's campaign has further been highlighted by his running mate Senator JD Vance's "childless cat ladies" remark against Harris and her supporter and pop star Taylor Swift. Speaking about similar sentiments amid the Democratic crowd, Obama had recently said, “I’m sorry, gentlemen, I’ve noticed this, especially, with some men who seem to think some of Trump’s behaviour — the bullying and the putting people down — is a sign of strength. And I am here to tell you: That is not what real strength is. It never has been." With abortion emerging as the hottest topic for women voters, Trump's unclear stance on it with an attitude of "we’ll see what happens" is only pushing him further away from the female population. Speaking about the battle between the presidential nominees, Shukla said, "Harris has been vocal about protecting abortion rights, a position that resonates deeply with many constituents, especially in the wake of recent legislative changes that threaten reproductive freedoms. In contrast, Trump's approach appears to underestimate the impact of women voters. His history of derogatory comments may alienate a demographic that is increasingly mobilised and engaged." Experts are also not batting for Trump as the perfect presidential candidate to take the helm amid rising inflation and increasing cost of household expenses, another issue which deeply concerns female voters. Many economists have suggested that prices are likely to rise faster under Trump's administration and not if Harris comes to power. Watch: US Election 2024: Harris Mocks Trump Over Town Hall 'Dance' "The combination of these key issues—abortion rights and economic instability—creates a charged atmosphere in which women's voices could significantly influence the election outcome. If Harris successfully harnesses this momentum, she could not only bolster her own candidacy but reshape the narrative surrounding women's electoral power," emphasised the founder of NewsMobile. Why Kamala Harris is emerging as women's favourite? With Trump not really aligning with the ideas and thoughts of female voters, Kamala Harris seems to have slowly crept into the room left open for her mistakenly by her opponent. Harris, who is a woman of colour, appears to have resonated with many and her campaign by keeping her gender or race off the rails, has helped her gain mass popularity. But above all, her strong stance on the issue of abortion and a belief by experts that she will be able to control the reins of inflation are the factors keeping her ahead in the race. According to a poll, she has been leading among female voters in almost all swing states, except for Arizona. "As we move closer to the elections, it will be crucial to observe how these dynamics evolve. The implications for both candidates are profound, and the focus on women's issues could very well determine the trajectory of the electoral race," explained Shukla.

US elections: As abortion trumps women voters' key issues, is Donald heading to a losing game?

JD Vance has finally broken his silence over whether his running mate Donald Trump won the 2020 election. After weeks of staying mum on the issue, Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance said on Wednesday (Oct 16) that he unequivocally believes Trump's claims that he did not lose the election.

Despite it being unequivocally proven that the 2020 election results were not rigged, Trump continues to reiterate false claims about voter fraud and that he won the election. His views are shared by millions of his hardline supporters, some of which in the aftermath of the election result declaration even rallied on Capitol Hill on Jan 6, 2021.

Trump claims Democrats 'stole' election nomination from Biden: 'Like candy from a baby'

Hispanic voters in the US have always favoured Democrats over Republicans. But that may not be the case with the current Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. Polls have revealed that Harris is performing poorly among Latino voters than any Democratic candidate since 2004. On the other hand, GOP candidate Donald Trump is having an impressive run, with more and more Hispanics now giving thumbs up to his anti-immigration rhetoric.

Working-class voters as well as younger men in the Hispanic community now prefer Trump over Harris, polls show.

‘Que mala’ Harris

With the Hispanic voters in mind, Trump’s host in Las Vegas and the multimillionaire president of Goya Foods, Bob Unanue recently coined a new term for the US vice president: “que mala” Harris. In Spanish, ‘que mala’ means “so bad.”

“Under Kamala — que mala … I don’t say that to get a buzz or as an insult, it’s reality. She is bad for this country, she is bad for Latinos,” said Unanue.

What polls reveal

Pew Research Center in early July found that support for both Trump and President Joe Biden, before he dropped out, among the Hispanic community stood at 36 per cent each, whereas 24 per cent backed Robert F Kennedy Jr.

Now that Kennedy has ended his campaign, Kamala Harris’ support base has widened to 57 per cent, against Trump’s 39 per cent.

Harris labels Trump 'unstable, unhinged' over 'enemy within' comment, puts him on big screen in Pennsylvania

Donald Trump's lawyers pushed on Monday to transfer to federal court the case in which he was convicted in a New York state court on charges involving covering up hush money paid to a porn star, a move that would give him the ability to end the prosecution if he regains the presidency.

His lawyers renewed the request in a brief filed with the Manhattan-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as they appealed U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein's Sept. 3 ruling rejecting the shift to federal court. Trump was convicted in May of 34 felony counts of falsifying documents.

In their brief, Trump's lawyers cited the US Supreme Court's July 1 decision that former presidents cannot be prosecuted for official actions taken in office. In the hush money case, they said, jurors had improperly seen evidence of Trump's official acts as president.

Trump is the Republican candidate facing Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 election. If he wins, he could seek to pardon himself for any federal crime or have his new Justice Department leadership dismiss any criminal cases pending against him in federal court. State criminal charges are beyond the reach of presidential pardon authority or Justice Department action.

Under U.S. law, civil or criminal cases pursued against federal officials may be moved to federal court if they relate to do their duties in office.

Trump's lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove wrote that prosecutors' "use of official-acts evidence in grand jury proceedings and at trial violated the Constitution and threatens the ability of all future Presidents to fulfill that role."

Trump was convicted by a jury in May of falsifying business records to cover up a payment of $130,000 made by his former lawyer Michael Cohen to adult film actress Stormy Daniels for her silence before the 2016 election about a sexual encounter she has said she had with Trump a decade earlier. The case was brought by the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.

Hellerstein denied Trump's request to move the hush money case to federal court, finding that the trial dealt with "private, unofficial acts, outside the bounds of executive authority."

If the 2nd Circuit rules against Trump, he could ask the Supreme Court - whose 6-3 conservative majority includes three justices he nominated - to hear the matter.

Kamala Harris goes full Trump, challenges 78-year-old Republican to reveal his health report

Former Republican President Donald Trump has an edge over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on who would better navigate the country through the Ukraine and Middle East wars, a Wall Street Journal opinion poll of seven battleground states showed.

In overall support, the poll published on Friday showed Harris and Trump tied across the seven states that could decide the November presidential election.

The poll showed Harris with marginal two percentage point leads in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, Trump up six points in Nevada and one in Pennsylvania, and the two tied in North Carolina and Wisconsin. The poll of 600 registered voters in each state conducted on September 28 - October 8 had a margin of error of four percentage points in each state.

The neck-and-neck results echo other polls reflecting a tight race before the November 5 election as Americans grapple with concerns about the economy, immigration, women's rights and the nation's democratic values in picking between the two candidates.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll this week also found Trump and Harris locked in a close race nationally, with Harris marginally ahead 46 per cent to 43 per cent.

Surveys of swing state voters can be an important indicator given that state-by-state results of the Electoral College will determine the winner, with the seven battleground states likely being decisive.

Harris would win a narrow majority in the Electoral College if she captures the states where she holds an edge in the WSJ's poll.

According to the WSJ poll, Trump leads Harris in the seven swing states 50 per cent to 39 per cent on who is best able to handle Russia's war in Ukraine. Trump also has a 48 per cent to 33 per cent lead over Harris on who is better suited to handle the Israel-Hamas war.

More voters said they backed Trump on the economy and immigration while more said Harris would do a better job when it comes to housing, healthcare and caring about people like them, the WSJ poll found.

Obama was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania and at an event for Black voters, where he specifically urged the Black men in the swing state to support Harris.

He questioned their unwillingness to vote for her. According to a September NAACP poll, over one-quarter of Black men under 50 say they will vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“We have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all quarters of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running. Now, I also want to say that that seems to be more pronounced with the brothers,” Obama said.

“We need a president who actually cares about solving problems and making your life better, and that’s what Kamala Harris will do,” Obama said. “And to help her do it, she will need a Senate full of serious public servants like Bob Casey.”

Obama-Harris' bond during the campaigns

Barack Obama and Kamala Harris have been supporting each other's campaigns for a long time now. Harris was an early supporter of Obama’s long-shot bid against Hilary Clinton, starting in 2007 when she knocked on doors for him ahead of the Iowa caucuses.

Similarly, in 2010, Obama backed Harris when she ran for attorney-general of California, calling her "a dear, dear friend of mine".

Further slamming Trump in his Pittsburgh event, Obama said, "This election is going to be tight because there are a lot of Americans who are still struggling out there.”

“I get why people are looking to shake things up. I mean, I am the hope-y, change-y guy. So I understand people feeling frustrated. We can do better. What I cannot understand is why anybody would think that Donald Trump will shake things up in a way that is good for you."

He added, "The good news is, Kamala Harris – she doesn’t have concepts for a plan. She has an actual plan to make your life better.”

Obama's 'diaper' joke at Trump

Taking another jibe at the Republican presidential candidate, Obama shared a personal story related to the high cost of diapers when his first daughter Malia was born in 1998. “I remember buying diapers after Malia was born and thinking, ‘That’s how much they cost?’” Obama said to the crowd.

“Do you think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?” Barack Obama said.

The crowd laughed and someone in the audience quickly responded, "His own!". Obama laughed and pointed to the audience member, clearly amused by the joke.

“I almost said that,” the former US president chuckled, “But I decided I shouldn’t say it.”
