Ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, cybercriminals are increasingly using AI to create and spread misinformation, warns OpenAI. Leveraging AI tools, malicious actors can generate realistic yet false content, such as manipulated videos, fake news articles, and deepfake images, to mislead voters and sow confusion. This misuse of AI technology poses significant risks to the integrity of the election process, amplifying the spread of false information across social media and digital platforms. OpenAI emphasizes the need for heightened vigilance, stronger security measures, and public awareness to combat the growing threat of AI-driven election misinformation.

Facing scrutiny over her leadership and public image, Harris is making frequent media appearances, engaging in interviews, and addressing key national issues to appeal to voters and reaffirm her role in the Biden administration. The effectiveness of this strategy remains to be seen, as political analysts and the public question whether her intensified media presence will pay off in solidifying support ahead of the election.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance on Saturday (Oct 5) addressed the Trump campaign's stance on abortion.

Just days after former first lady Melania Trump voiced her support for a woman's right to abortion, Vance defended the campaign's conservative position on the issue.

Emphasising state-level autonomy over abortion laws, Vance said, "I don't think our campaign messaging has been inconsistent at all."

Talking to reporters, he said that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's view allows states to shape their own abortion regulations.

Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump in her forthcoming memoir "Melania," has voiced firm support for abortion rights — a contrast to her husband's stance on the issue.

As reported by The Guardian, Melania asserts that the decision regarding abortion should lie solely with the woman, stating, "Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?"

"A woman's fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes."

She further elaborates that restricting a woman's right to choose is akin to denying her autonomy over her body, a belief she claims to have held throughout her adult life.

A spokesperson for Harris's campaign in an email comment to Reuters pointedly remarked that Melania Trump's views is in stark contrast with those of her husband: "Sadly for the women across America, Mrs. Trump's husband firmly disagrees with her and is the reason that more than one in three American women live under a Trump Abortion Ban that threatens their health, their freedom, and their lives."

Donald Trump and abortion Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has frequently bragged that his three Supreme Court picks paved the way for the 2022 overturning of the pivotal Roe v Wade — the national right to abortion. Since then, at least 20 US states have enforced full or partial abortion restrictions. Previously, he suggested backing a national ban after 15 weeks. A spokesperson for Harris's campaign in an email comment to Reuters pointedly remarked that Melania Trump's views is in stark contrast with those of her husband: "Sadly for the women across America, Mrs. Trump's husband firmly disagrees with her and is the reason that more than one in three American women live under a Trump Abortion Ban that threatens their health, their freedom, and their lives." 'It's about autonomy,' Melania Trump breaks ranks, contradicts husband Donald's views on abortion in memoir

Ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in the U.S., Melania Trump has broken ranks and expressed a view on a key poll issue that contradicts her husband and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's views. In her upcoming memoir set to be published a month from Election Day, Melania Trump vigorously defends abortion rights. This is significant because the former First Lady of the U.S. and wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has rarely expressed her political views in public. But now, by diverging from her party line and aligning with her husband's rival, she addresses a big election issue that could sway voters' decisions in the upcoming November election.

U.S. Elections: What's Next For Political Betting In The US?

In 2016, Donald Trump defied polls and all expectations to defeat Hillary Clinton and become the American President. The victory which he described as "beautiful" happened despite Clinton winning nearly three million more votes than the Republicans. But how could that be? How can the candidate who won the second-highest number of votes win and be crowned president? Here's how the complex US electoral system works:

How did Trump win in 2016?

Donald Trump did what was required: win enough individual states, some with very narrow margins, to surpass the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.

How does the Electoral College work?

The US Electoral College is made up of 538 members who gather in their state capitals after each presidential election to designate the winning president and vice president. To win, a candidate must receive an absolute majority—at least 270 electoral votes.

If you're wondering who these 538 voters are, the answer is they are mostly local elected officials or party leaders.

Each state has a number of electors equal to its total representation in Congress, combining its House — the number depends on the states' population and Senate members — two in every state irrespective of the state's size. For example, California has 54 electors, while smaller states like Wyoming have just three. US capital Washington has three electors even though it has no voting members in Congress.

This is why candidates focus heavily on a handful of "swing" states that can make or break the elections for them.

Most states follow a winner-takes-all approach, where the candidate with the most votes in that state gets all its electoral votes. However, Nebraska and Maine allocate some electors by the congressional district, adding complexity to the process.

As the 2024 US elections approach, the question if Trump can achieve his 2016 feat is on many minds. Back then, he won 306 electoral votes, way more than the 270 he needs.

He's not the only one to achieved this. Before him, five presidents, including John Quincy Adams in 1824 and George W. Bush in 2000, have achieved this. Bush's win was particularly contentious. It hinged on a Supreme Court ruling that ultimately awarded him Florida's electoral votes and the presidency, even though he lost the nationwide popular vote by almost 500,000 votes.

Donald Trump 'unfit to serve': Over 100 Republican ex-officials endorse Kamala Harris' presidential bid

The cryptocurrency sector is closely monitoring the upcoming U.S. elections, with insiders largely downplaying its potential impact on market dynamics. Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Ethereum, expressed that "No matter if the US adopts a pro-crypto stance or not, the global landscape is advancing." This sentiment is shared by several experts who believe the global momentum towards crypto is unstoppable as detailed in a CNBC report.

Arthur Hayes, former CEO of BitEX, stated, "I don’t believe it’s significant. Bitcoin has surged from nothing to its current valuation without any definitive regulations or governmental endorsement. So why is it necessary now? It’s inconsequential."

Further, in Singapore, experts remain unfazed by the US presidential election's potential effects on local crypto markets, although some perceive Donald Trump as more favorable towards cryptocurrency. Hoskinson noted, "When comparing Vice Kamala Harris and Trump, he clearly stands out as the preferred option from a cryptocurrency viewpoint."

During a July conference, Trump pledged to position the US as the "crypto capital of the world" by preventing the liquidation of its Bitcoin assets. Despite such promises, Hoskinson highlighted, "Irrespective of the US stance on cryptocurrency, the global momentum is unstoppable."

SkyBridge Capital’s Scaramucci speculated that Vice President Kamala Harris might adopt a regulatory framework similar to Trump's approach if victorious, stating, "I expect we will see her clarify her economic strategies and stance on crypto regulation, and I remain hopeful."

In the current election cycle, cryptocurrency regulation is not viewed as a divisive issue. Jeremy Allaire from Circle emphasised bipartisan support for crypto, saying, "All parties are poised to act, regardless of who occupies the White House. This is essential technology for the United States to remain competitive."

As the election approaches, crypto entities have contributed over $190 million to political campaigns, with a notable share going to Republican candidates.

Despite varied opinions, the overarching view remains that US political changes will not significantly drive global crypto markets. Hayes affirmed, "It’s irrelevant. Bitcoin has evolved from nothing to its current value without needing clear regulations or government backing."

Following this, the gunman dropped his rifle, along with two backpacks and other items, and fled in a black Nissan car.

However, as per the sheriff's office, a witness saw the gunman and managed to take photos of his car and license plate. The would-be assassin was spotted about 400 to 500 yards (around 365 to 457 meters) from where Trump was playing, said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

"The Secret Service did exactly what should have been done. They provided exactly what the protection should have been. And their agent did a fantastic job," added Bradshaw.

This was the second attempt on Trump's life in as many months.
