According to the local media, she landed at the Puerto Princesa International Airport and will subsequently visit the coastal community at Barangay Tagburos of around 1,500 residents which was identified as a “climate change-affected area”. Following her visit to Tagburos, she will also meet the Philippine Coast Guard officials on the multi-role response vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua, reported the Palawan news.&nbsp;

Harris will also deliver a speech before the Philippines’ police, coast guard, military and government officials and highlight the importance of international law, unhindered trade and navigation freedom in the South China Sea, said spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo had said earlier.&nbsp;

Palawan is just 320 km (200 miles) from the Spratly archipelago, parts of which are reportedly being used by China to build harbours and airstrips while countries like Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have also claimed ownership or parts of this island.&nbsp;

Furthermore, Beijing claims that the entire South China Sea is a part of its country which is supposedly home to massive oil and gas deposits and the route of billions of dollars worth of trade every year. As reported by WION earlier, Beijing has long claimed some of the territories off the coast of Palawan and much of that sea is China’s citing historical maps which were rejected in 2016 by an international arbitration saying that it does not have any legal basis and ruled in Philippines’ favour.&nbsp;

She added&nbsp;that they located one person, who is believed to be a suspect, inside the club.&nbsp;“At this point in time, the suspect is being treated, but is in custody.” The motive of the attack seems unclear and the police have declined to comment on it.

As per AFP reports, heroic people inside the club confronted and fought with the attacker&nbsp;and were able to stop him from further&nbsp;killing.&nbsp;

Americans "cannot and must not tolerate hate," President Joe Biden said hours after the mass shooting. Biden, stating that the motive in the attack is not yet clear, nevertheless slammed violence against the LGBTQ community, in particular transgender women of color, in recent times.

Club Q took to Facebook&nbsp;and said they are&nbsp;“devastated by the senseless attack on our community. Our prayers and thoughts are with all the victims and their families and friends.&nbsp;We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack.”

The university released a statement on Thursday (Nov 21) in which it stated that students will be allowed to carry kirpans on campus within a blade length of 3 inches and the weapons need to be closed to their body in a sheath. The statement was signed by the chancellor.

The statement continued, "Over the past several weeks, we have engaged in dialogue with representatives from the local and global Sikh communities about how we could modify University policies to honour the tenets of religious freedom while protecting the safety of our campus."

The university expressed its gratitude to the Sikh leaders for helping the university's policy change.&nbsp;

Ahead of the high-level talks, on Sunday, a Philippine military commander accused a Chinese coast guard ship of “forcefully” retrieving a piece of suspected rocket debris floating in the ocean which was being towed by a Philippine vessel in the South China Sea.&nbsp;

However, China has since denied these allegations and said that it was taken after “both sides had a friendly negotiation at the scene”, following which the Philippines “handed over” the object to the Chinese, said Beijing's foreign ministry spokeswoman, Mao Ning, on Monday during a press briefing.&nbsp;

Philippine Ambassador to the US, Jose Manuel Romualdez while speaking to AP said that this trip shows the obvious message to the Chinese that “we support our allies like the Philippines on these disputed islands.” He added that this visit is also a “significant step” which shows how seriously Washington views this situation. &nbsp;

Notably, Marcos' predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte had a strained relationship with the US and had threatened to sever ties with the US amid perceived closeness to Beijing. Therefore, Washington is now looking to strengthen ties with the new administration after Marcos Jr took office in June following a landslide electoral victory. This includes US President Joe Biden’s brief exchange with his Philippine counterpart on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September.&nbsp;

Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX owes almost $3.1 billion to top 50 creditors

According to a report by the New York Times, a former evangelical activist in a letter claimed that he knew the outcome of the 2014 Supreme Court decision involving contraception and the Affordable Care Act prior to the formal ruling. The information was supposedly given to him by a wealthy political donor who was allegedly told about the ruling by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito during a dinner at his residence.&nbsp;

The letter in question was sent by Rev. Rob Schenck earlier this year to Chief Justice John Roberts and was later procured by the Times, said that he was told about the upcoming ruling by Gayle Wright weeks before the public announcement after the two had dinner at Justice Alito’s home with his wife Martha-Ann Alito.&nbsp;

Notably, Alito wrote the majority opinion in 2014 for the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby which ruled in the favour of family-owned corporations like Hobby Lobby which had objected to a provision of the Affordable Care Act mandating employers to provide health insurance that includes contraception coverage.

This comes months after the draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, the constitutional right to abortion, was leaked and reported first by Politico in May, also written by Justice Alito. However, since the New York Times report emerged, the supreme court justice in a statement to the media has vehemently denied these allegations and called them “completely false”.&nbsp;

“The allegation that the Wrights were told the outcome of the decision in the Hobby Lobby case, or the authorship of the opinion of the Court, by me or my wife is completely false,” said Justice Alito in a statement. He added, “My wife and I became acquainted with the Wrights some years ago because of their strong support for the Supreme Court Historical Society, and since then, we have had a casual and purely social relationship”. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The Wrights also never made any effort to obtain “confidential information or to influence anything that I did in either an official or private capacity”, said Alito and would be “shocked and offended if those allegations are true,” to ABC news. Meanwhile, Gayle Wright, in a telephonic interview with the Times also denied obtaining or passing along any such information.&nbsp;

Schenck said that he came forward with the letter now to help with the ongoing investigation into the leaked draft of the majority opinion to overturn Roe. However, his account of the leak “has gaps”, said the Times report, but a series of exchanged emails and conservations imply that he knew about the ruling beforehand.&nbsp; 
 
The former evangelical activist also wrote that since there may be a “severe penalty” levied on the person responsible for the initial leak or the recent draft opinion he thought that the 2014 incident might, “bear some consideration”.&nbsp;

This comes as the SCOTUS has been under scrutiny since May 2022 after the leak of the majority opinion to overturn Roe with many accusing&nbsp;the conservative majority of&nbsp;politicisation. Several recent polls have indicated that the supreme court's&nbsp;public approval has reached record lows. Earlier this year, Alito had called the draft opinion leak of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case a “grave betrayal”, the ruling for which was announced in June.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, several mostly Democrat lawmakers have called for an investigation including US Representative Mondaire Jones, a Democrat from New York, who took to Twitter and said, “Today’s well-sourced NY Times article strongly suggests Justice Alito leaked the 2014 opinion in Hobby Lobby, and describes a conspiracy by the far-right donor class to influence the Supreme Court Justices. The House Judiciary Committee must investigate this while we still can.”&nbsp;

The executive director of the judicial group, Demand Justice, Brian Fallon, also called on the Senate Judiciary Committee “to investigate the apparent leak.” He added, “The whistleblower in this report…should be called to testify about both the leak and the yearslong lobbying effort he once led to cultivate Alito and other Republican justices,” he said in a statement.&nbsp;

The Times report was the latest proof of “Republican justices on the Court are little more than politicians in robes,” said Fallon. Meanwhile, Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat and head of the Senate Judiciary Committee in a statement said the panel is reviewing these “serious allegations” and urged the passage of pending legislation in Congress which would create a code of ethics for the Supreme Court.&nbsp;

“It is unacceptable that members of the highest court in the land are exempted from the judicial code of ethics when wealthy special interests are spending millions of dollars in dark money to influence the Court’s decisions,” said Durbin in a written statement on Saturday.&nbsp;

US: Justice Alito denies allegations of involvement in 2014 Supreme Court leak, amid calls for probe

John Kerry, United States' climate envoy, met his Chinese counterpart Xie Zhenhua on Sunday (November 20) and called on Beijing to "accelerate progress together" on reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. Kerry met Zhenhua during COP27 UN summit in Egypt.

The US and China are world's largest economies and account for a big chunk of greenhouse gases emissions. US President Joe Biden met Chinese President Xi Jinping in G20 summit in Indonesia last week.

China suspended climate talks with the US as it was angry at US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan.

Cooperation between the superpowers is key in the fight against global warming and has led to breakthroughs at past UN climate conferences, notably the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement.

"The climate crisis in fundamentally a global -- not a bilateral -- issue," Kerry said in a statement.

"The United States and China should be able to accelerate progress together, not only for our sake, but for future generations," Kerry added.

"All nations have a stake in the choices China makes in this critical decade... We are all hopeful that China will live up to its global responsibility."

Xie described his talks with Kerry as "candid, friendly, positive" and "overall very constructive".

"We have agreed that after this COP we will continue formal conversations, including face-to-face meetings," he told reporters on Saturday.

Salmon fish use this corridor to reach spawning grounds and the dam removal will again improve the health of the Klamath river. These dams when function at full capacity provide electricity for about 70,000 homes. Once the dam demolition drive takes place this will be surrendered by the power utility PacifiCorp, a unit of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway. The company has now entered an agreement with the tribes and the US government to decommission the dams.
