Law claimed that he sent the product to hundreds of people in the UK. He said that Britons were some of his most frequent buyers. On being asked how many in the UK got the poison, Law said, “It will be literally in the hundreds. And they’ve all received it. We have had many, many customers in the UK who have purchased it.” “People in the UK have died, people in the US have died, people in Canada have died, and other parts of the world,” he added. The report said that Law is a former aerospace engineer and had spent six months in Coventry working on the Boeing 7E7 programme team for Dunlop Standard Aerospace. However, he was most recently employed as a chef in a hotel in Toronto. Citing sources, the Times reported on Tuesday that Law worked at the hotel after wanting a lifestyle change. But the hotel said that he was not an employee. Speaking to the publication, he said that he came up with the business after seeing his mother suffer greatly following a stroke. Law said that his father is religious and did not believe very much in euthanasia. “She was bedridden, couldn’t speak and they had to feed her through a tube to her stomach for over seven years. And that was very painful. Not only for her family but also very painful for me to witness," Law said. “This is why I created some avenue of escape, so that people if they are in such a circumstance, can undertake it either by themselves or by somebody else,” he added. The victims The Times report mentioned the names of some of the victims who took their lives after buying the poison. The oldest victim was 38 years oldest while the youngest was 17. In the UK, twenty-two-year-old Tom Parfett was one of the victims who bought the poison from Law's company. Tom's father David said that Law was the man that effectively "handed a loaded gun to my son." David said that Tom would still be alive if it wasn't for Law and the substance. David also pointed out that Law was knowingly supplying the substance for people to take their own lives and gained some kind of perverse pleasure from the knowledge that they were doing it. Michael Dunham, 38, Neha Raju, 23 and a 21-year-old student who was not identified- were all from the UK and died in the last 18 months after they bought poison from Law. The report also said that there were three deaths linked to Law in the US. One of the victims, Anthony Jones, 17, consumed the substance and ran to his mother shouting he wanted to live. Tacopina told the jury that Carroll initially accused then-president Trump of rape following a meeting with George Conway, a prominent opponent who was married to Kellyanne Conway, one of the president's closest advisers in the White House. The judge upheld a challenge to Carroll's claim made by his attorneys. When Carroll provides testimony, it's unclear if Tacopina will bring it up again.

Carroll claims that in 1996, after they ran into each other and he asked for help in choosing a gift for a friend, Trump assaulted her in a dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York.

Shawn Crowley, Carroll's attorney, told the jury that Trump forced Carroll into a changing room before attacking her. According to the attorney, Trump slammed Carroll's head against the wall, held her arms behind her back, pulled her tights down, and then pushed his fingers into her vagina.

Crowley claimed that Carroll attempted to knee Trump off and kicked him, but that Trump overpowered&nbsp;her.

“He removed his hand and forced his penis inside her,” the lawyer told the jury.

Crowley addressed the two issues she predicted would be foremost in the jurors' minds. Carroll and Trump entered the dressing room for what reason? And why did she not call the police right away to report the alleged rape?

The attorney claimed that when Carroll was asked to try on a see-through bodysuit by Trump, she threw the suggestion back at him and told him that since it was his colour, he should be the one wearing it. Trump then brought Carroll to the changing room while holding her arm.

“To her, the situation was harmless and funny,” said Crowley. “The truth is she didn’t see Trump as a threat.”

Crowley claimed that following the incident, Carroll did inform two friends. One suggested that she contact the police. The other suggested keeping silent because Trump was an influential person. &nbsp;Carroll, according to Crowley, was "filled with fear and shame" that prevented her from speaking for a long time.

Carroll was subjected to a barrage of "vicious attacks" by the president when she finally made the decision to speak out following Trump's election in 2016 and the rise of the #MeToo movement.

Tacopina argued before the jury that it was impossible that nobody in a major department store noticed Carroll and Trump together and that no employees were present in the vicinity of the alleged assault.&nbsp;

Carroll claimed that the door was unlocked despite Bergdorf Goodman's customary practice of keeping changing rooms shut until a customer requested entry.

Carroll's explanation for why she didn't call the police was contested by Tacopina.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday (April 26) that 2023 summit of leaders of the Quad countries will take place in Sydney on May 24. This will be the third in-person meeting of the leaders of Australia, the US, India and Japan.

"I am honoured to host the first ever Quad Leaders' Summit in Australia in Sydney," Albanese said.

"The Quad is committed to supporting an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is respectful of sovereignty and ensures security and growth for all."

The Australian prime minister said that during the summit, the quad countries will discuss how the grouping can work alongside partners and other groupings like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Pacific Islands Forum in order to boost coopeartion in the region.

Quad, an informal grouping of nations which includes India, the US, Japan and Australia does not have a military aspect. But it is widely seen as US-led attempt to counter rapidly rising Chinese influence in political, commercial as well as military arena especially in the Indo-Pacific.

China has in past expressed its displeasure at the grouping.

Australia, long thought to be away from global geopolitical hotspots has increasingly found itself at odds with China as the latter had taken concrete steps to make headway into region previously considered Australia's backyard. Chinese attempts to woo island nations in the Pacific Ocean have not gone unnoticed in Australia. Chinese military ships have increased their forays in waters near Australia in recent past as well.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Chief of the Defence Force Angus Campbell have said in recent days that Australian forces need to be capable of responding to potential adversaries whose weapons are faster, can strike farther and are more precise than in the past.

Changing that equation is crucial to the future of Australia's military, they said.

In an address to the National Press Club on Monday, Wong said the region should not be reduced to a binary competition between the United States and China; Australia wanted to work with other middle-sized countries, including those in Southeast Asia, to deter aggression, she said.

"America is central to balancing a multipolar region... We cannot just leave it to the U.S.," she said.

The in-person Quad summit will take place next month amid strained relations between China and the US. The two nations have been sparring on varirty on issues ranging from Ukraine war, tech security to Taiwan and Chinese apps like TikTok.

The Justice Department demanded that the defamation case be transferred from state to federal court, claiming that Trump's public statements denying rape in 2019 were made as part of his duty as president.

The administration then contended that Carroll is not suing Trump as an individual but as an employee of the US government, and thus the government should be substituted for Trump as the defendant, reported The Guardian.

“The government thus asserts that this case is virtually identical in principle to a lawsuit against a Postal Service driver for causing a car accident while delivering the mail,” said the judge in considering the position in 2020.

In a civil case, the burden of proof is significantly lower. Other constitutionally protected rights exist for defendants in criminal proceedings. What charges did Carroll level against Trump? E. Jean Carroll has sued Trump in two different lawsuits. The administration then contended that Carroll is not suing Trump as an individual but as an employee of the US government, and thus the government should be substituted for Trump as the defendant, reported The Guardian. “The government thus asserts that this case is virtually identical in principle to a lawsuit against a Postal Service driver for causing a car accident while delivering the mail,” said the judge in considering the position in 2020. The judge rejected the president's assertion that he is just another government employee and stated that his remarks regarding Carroll were not within the scope of his employment. What happens if Trump loses the case? If the jury determines that Trump did rape or otherwise assault Carroll, he will very certainly be ordered to pay compensation. At the United Nations Security Council meeting on Monday (April 24), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the 15-member body about the world reaching a threshold “possibly even more dangerous” than during the Cold War. At the same forum, Western diplomats accused Moscow, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the UNSC, of hypocrisy while some also condemned its invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;

Russia’s top diplomat was leading the session titled “maintenance of international peace and security,” which was focused on the maintenance of the UN charter, international rules, and multilateralism. “As during the Cold War, we have reached the dangerous, possibly even more dangerous threshold,” said Lavrov, while addressing the council.&nbsp;

He added, “the situation is worsened with the loss of trust in multilateralism.” The Russian foreign minister also went on to talk about how “nobody allowed the Western minority to speak for all of humankind. They need to be polite and respect all members of the international community.”&nbsp;

Lavrov also accused the “United States and its allies” of “abandoning diplomacy and demanding clarification of relations on the battlefield.”

Notably, the last time Russia presided over the council was February 2022 which is the same month it launched what Moscow calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine.&nbsp;

Lavrov, during his address, mentioned acts of aggression by the West including the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the invasion of Iraq, and so on.&nbsp;

The West slams Russia

During the session, several diplomats including the United States, United Kingdom, and Switzerland condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Our hypocritical convener today, Russia, invaded its neighbour, Ukraine, and struck at the heart of the UN Charter,” said the US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield.&nbsp;

She added, “This illegal, unprovoked and unnecessary war runs directly counter to our most shared principles – that a war of aggression and territorial conquest is never, ever acceptable.” Furthermore, the US representative also spoke about how as they sit there as “aggression continues…Russian forces continue to kill and injure civilians.”&nbsp;

The US representative also called for the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. The meeting was also attended by Elizabeth Whelan, an American whose brother, Paul Whelan, is imprisoned in Russia.&nbsp;

Ahead of the UNSC session, the European Union countries, along similar lines, issued a statement which condemned Moscow. “Russia is trying to portray itself as a defender of the UN charter and multilateralism. Nothing can be further from the truth. It’s cynical,” said Olaf Skoog, the EU representative to the UN.&nbsp;

He added, “Tensions between major powers are at an historic high. So are the risks of conflict, through misadventure or miscalculation.”&nbsp;

The Chinese space agency, on Monday (April 24), revealed that it recently gifted Russia and France small samples of lunar soil collected during the fifth mission of China’s Lunar Exploration Programme in 2020. Earlier this month, France was presented with 1.5 grams, said Guan Feng from the China National Space Administration (CNSA), as per South China Morning Post (SCMP).&nbsp;

Russia and China exchange lunar soil

The Chinese space agency also revealed that back in February 2022, during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing, he was given lunar soil samples weighing 1.5 grams for “scientific research purposes,” said the CNSA on its website.&nbsp;

In turn, when Chinese President Xi Jinping went to Russia for a visit, earlier this year, he was given 1.5 grams of lunar soil collected by the first Soviet probe, the Luna-16 in 1970, to perform a sample return mission to the Moon, reported Russian news agency Tass.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The announcement was made by Guan while addressing an audience during the opening ceremony of this year’s Space Day of China in Hefei, on April 24.

China gives France lunar soil

Additionally, a similar amount of&nbsp;lunar soil was presented to French President Emmanuel Macron, earlier this month, during his visit to Beijing.&nbsp;

Scientific value of the exchanges

A French geologist Thomas Smith at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing said this is “proof of the strong friendship and partnership between our two countries” referring to the gift from China to France, reported the SCMP. Notably, he was the first foreign national to receive samples collected during the Chinese mission.

The geologist also noted how the samples collected during the Chinese mission in 2020 were the first ones since the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s Apollo and the Soviet Luna missions. “They represent the youngest-ever lunar soils brought back to Earth. Therefore, they are of high scientific value and give insights into the events that happened late in the moon’s history,” said Smith.&nbsp;

Smith, who received some 400 milligrams of the sample and two tiny particles for the study said he used them to measure the concentrations of noble gases such as helium and neon. The geologist also said that he would look at how the moon has been impacted by various cosmic events on the moon over the aeons.

China’s Chang’e-5 mission&nbsp;

In 2020, CNSA launched its fifth mission of China’s Lunar Exploration Programme called Chang’e 5 which collected a total of 1,731g of lunar samples around 23 days later. After the samples, which are said to be some two billion years old, reached Earth the CNSA announced that lunar soil analysis would be conducted with international cooperation.&nbsp;

The recent findings, based on the samples collected during the 2020 mission, indicated that the moon still had active volcanoes two billion years ago which is more recent than previously thought.&nbsp;

The Apollo and Luna rocks are said to be somewhere between three and 4.4 billion years old. As of now, researchers in China as well as several countries like Australia, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and so on, are analysing the lunar samples collected.&nbsp;
