Diwali is just around the corner, and in India, it is all about eating!

It's the time of the year when we meet family and friends and consume varieties of festive sweets and snacks. During the festival, the delicious sweets and dishes are mouth-watering and lip-smacking and simply leave us wanting more. However, oily, sweet foods can lead to health issues like bloating, and constipation, and, in the end, most of us end up gaining some extra kilos.

Giving health a priority this year, here we've compiled a list of things you can do to stay fit this Diwali.

Scroll down for guilt-free festival fun.

Prefer homemade food:

While this is the time when your cheat days are over, you still prefer eating homemade food. People eat lots of sweets and snacks during the festival. But, still, eating homemade items will save you. Rather than store-bought snacks, sweets, and foods, prefer homemade snacks, sweets, and foods made with a high-quality oil. Still, keep track of when you eat, what you eat, and how much you eat.

Ditch oily food:

Food is the most important aspect of any occasion. During the festival, the delicious delicacies are something we can't ignore, but we can use our brains and, with the help of innovations, we can cut out a lot of extra calories. Make your dish and instead of frying them in oil, you can bake them or use the air-frying method. This method will surely reduce oil consumption.

Avoid overeating:

It's that time of the year when your day is all about eating—no matter what you binge on, whether it's sweets or greasy food. But if you seriously want to resist overeating, stick to it and guide your brain and heart accordingly.

If you want to eat less, stay hydrated. It will help you eat less. Small trick: Drink a whole glass of water before eating. You simply won't eat as much. Another thing you can do to avoid overeating is to skip the extras. Stick to the main course and avoid the side dishes on the plate and snacks too.

Add this food to your diet:

Maintaining a diet is tough when so much tempting food is around, so we suggest some foods that you can add to your diet and make your Diwali healthy and light.

Add cucumber. It always tops the list of dieters because it has zero fat and calories and is made up of mostly water. Cucumber keeps you hydrated but also helps shed extra fat stored in the body. From main courses to mocktails, there are plenty of snacks made from cucumber.

The second is spinach, which is super-rich in proteins and iron. There are so many dishes in our Indian cuisine that you can make with this green vegetable.

Beetroot: Another food that is low in calories and high in fibre is beetroot. So, make a delicious and colourful beetroot salad and add it to your dinner meal, which can be enjoyed by your guests as well. For more details, go to Google.

Reduce your alcohol consumption:

Sipping fizzy drinks during holiday gatherings can dehydrate you and increase your calorie intake. One should also be able to control their alcohol consumption. Cocktails, which are a combination of alcohol and juices, should be avoided, and 1 or 2 drinks should suffice.

AI-generated human avatars can deliver your scripts with perfect diction and look so natural. But what if the videos are used to support repressive regimes and criminal enterprises?

AI-generated human avatars can deliver your scripts with perfect diction and look so natural. But what if the videos are used to support repressive regimes and criminal enterprises? This is what happened with avatars generated through the AI app Syenthesia, and the actual humans used for creating the AI models are now speaking up. According to a report in The Guardian, the technology of the London-based startup that recently achieved unicorn status (market value of $1 billion) was deployed to support Ibrahim Traoré, who led the military coup of 2023 in Burkina Faso. Well-groomed AI anchors were used in the videos that appeared on platforms like Telegram, asking people to rally behind the junta leader-turned-president.
How good is our sense of smell? The general perception is that human olfactory senses are poor when compared to many other animals like dogs. But now a study says that we can sniff out different odours much more accurately and faster.

You can get pregnant by having a cough medicine, claim some women in TikTok. Like many other health hacks and 'home remedies', this has been going viral on the video-sharing platform, but medical experts are throwing in some reality checks now. The medicine doing the rounds as a fertility treatment is Mucinex, or more specifically, the ingredient guaifenesin, which clears mucus and phlegm from the chest. The 'Mucinex Method' claims have been doing the rounds for months now, with millions of views and even a hashtag #mucinexdpregnancy on TikTok. In one such TikTok video, a woman said she took the medicine 30 minutes before sexual intercourse and it worked. Any kind of Mucinex or medicine with guaifenesin will work, claimed Amanda MacGibbon, a lifestyle influencer. In a message shared, she wrote that the cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone. Her message reads, ''As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything." Kate was diagnosed with cancer in January when she underwent major abdominal surgery. In March, her health condition was made public.

Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri-starrer Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video gets some points right but misses the mark in many ways. What's right and what's wrong? Read on to find out.

Director Raaj Shaandilyaa has many fans for his unconventional stories and quirky characters. However, he doesn't always get it right. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a prime example of this. While watching the film, the only thing that I was wondering about was the movie's purpose, questioning what was the need for this film. In brief, the movie is a cringe fest that's not easy to tolerate.

What is the movie all about?

The movie takes you back to the '90s era when cameras, CDs and long hairstyles for men were all the rage. Set in the North Indian town of Rishikesh, which was back then under the state Uttar Pradesh, not Uttarakhand, the movie revolves around two lovers Vicky and Vidya.

The film picks up with Vicky and Vidya, who cleverly trick their families and get married. Soon, the newly married couple jets off to their honeymoon in Goa, where they shoot intimate moments to maintain spice and romance in their relationship for years to come. However, their lives take a major turn when the CD of their video gets stolen. How this CD theft unravels a big video racket secretly going on in the city makes the rest of the story.

Apart from Vicky and Vidya, the other characters who take the limelight are their family members as well as the cop played by Vijay Raaz.

The boring cringe-fest

Throughout the movie, I had plenty of concerns, but what irritated me the most was the presentation of the characters, whether Vidya's mother (played by Archana Puran Singh), who is constantly chewing tobacco or Vicky's father (played by Tiku Talsania), who wears a shade with a black cover over one eye. All these characters came off as caricatures, adding little comic factor to the movie.

After a good and entertaining start, the movie soon feels stretched and boring, with everything seeming irrelevant. While the stolen CD of Vicky and Vidya serves as the main plot, the other subplots feel out of context.

What fails the film even more are the dialogues and mindless additions that didn't look credible at all. Co-written and directed by Shaandilyaa, the movie is a tedious slapstick comedy, with everything being overly dramatic and the plot lines too bizarre.

Things turn terrible in the second half as the film reaches climax and we also get a pinch of horror with the incorporation of the saree-clad witch from Rao's film Stree.

Despite so many additions and numerous twists and turns and cameos, the movie fails to entertain. What was more disheartening was that it came from the director who has given us hits like Dream Girl.

Cast performance

Rajkummar has always won hearts as a small-town boy and is currently being loved in Stree 2. But, in this movie, he's nowhere close to his previous portrayals. Triptii Dimri, who has been in the spotlight since Animal, looks beautiful, but her performance as Vidya fails to leave a mark.

Vijay Raaz is an actor of excellence with the ability to make any role shine, but the terrible writing and presentation of his character hinder his performance. Mallika Sherawat makes a comeback after a long time, and while her character was given enough screen time, she was still an unnecessary addition to the movie.

Final verdict

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video comes with a nostalgic essence of the 90s and a dollop of crowd-pleasing dialogues and the plot. If you are a fan of Rao and Vijay then you can go and watch this movie, otherwise, skip and wait for its OTT release.

"Since 1990, improvements overall in life expectancy have decelerated," said the study, adding that, unless the processes of biological aging can be markedly slowed, "radical human life extension is implausible in this century."

The study into death data of 1990 to 2019 from nine of these areas found that life expectancy increased by just 6.5 years in this period.

Olshansky, a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago warned that people should not assume they will live to 100.

“If you’re planning for retirement, it’s probably not a good idea to assume you’re going to make it to 100,” Olshansky was quoted as saying in The Guardian.

“You’d probably have to work for at least 10 years longer than you’d think. And you want to enjoy the last phase of your life, you don’t necessarily want to spend it working to save for time you’re not going to experience,” he said.

If you are a girl or young woman reading this, what would be more worrying for you when going online: FOMO, or the fear of missing out, or the sexual predators and misogynists roaming social media? A rather worrying study in the UK has found that in spite of the hidden dangers, young women are flocking to social media because of FOMO.

The survey by the NGO Girlguiding had more than 2,000 respondents.

It revealed that girls and young women aged 11 to 21 face unwanted sexual images and cyberstalking when surfing the net and social media.

Just days after Hurricane Helene hit the United States, a wave of misinformation has flooded the internet. Among it are two digitally manipulated images that supposedly show a distraught child in a boat amidst floodwaters. AI-generated images At first glance, the images appear to depict a child in a life jacket clutching a dog as heavy rain from the devastating storm pours down. However, closer inspection reveals flaws that expose the images as fakes. One glaring issue is that the child has an extra misplaced finger in one image. Furthermore, she is wearing different shirts and is seated in distinct types of boats in each picture. The dog in the images also varies slightly, with its coat appearing darker in the more pixelated version. Not only common people, even Utah Senator Mike Lee fell victim to the doctored images, sharing one on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "Caption this photo." He later deleted the post after users pointed out its inauthenticity. Similarly, a Facebook user shared the manipulated image, calling for help for the "babies and their families." Experts warn that digitally altered images depicting disasters can have serious long-term repercussions. They complicate relief efforts, distort narratives, erode public trust in crisis situations, and can even lead to scams that exploit people's goodwill, though it remains unclear if this particular image has been used for fraudulent fundraising.
