<p>There were at least 19 cases of Oropouche virus disease reported for the first time in Europe. Among these, 12 were in Spain, five in Italy and two in Germany. All these were imported cases, with 18 infected people having travelled to Cuba and one to Brazil.</p>

<p>Oropouche virus (OROV) disease is&nbsp;the most prevalent insect-borne viral disease in South America after Dengue virus.</p>

<p>OROV disease has been reported in South America, Central America and the Caribbean this year, mainly in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Cuba.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There have been nearly 7,300 cases in Brazil in 2024 as against 832 last year.</p>

<p>Brazilian health officials have reported that Oropouche&nbsp;can be transmitted from mother to child, and was thought to be the cause of several birth defects and miscarriages in Brazil.</p>

<p>A man from Philadelphia, US recently pleaded guilty to killing his neighbour over an argument about loud snoring. 56-year-old Christopher Casey was sentenced to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in prison over the involuntary manslaughter of 62-year-old Robert Wallace.</p>

<p>As per CBS, the two men shared a common wall in a duplex they were both living in. Robert Wallace had grown frustrated over Casey’s loud snoring and even had an argument in January. The loud snoring had adversely affected Wallace’s health and ability to sleep, as per reports.</p>

A video has emerged from the Nagaur district showing a man&nbsp;shamelessly tying his wife behind his bike and dragging her for several seconds on rocky ground.</p>

<p>This means they remain inherently controllable, predictable and safe," said the release, leading to the conclusion that LLMs are not an existential threat to humanity.</p>

<p>"The research team concluded that LLMs – which are being trained on ever larger datasets – can continue to be deployed without safety concerns, though the technology can still be misused," it said.</p>

<p>While in future, these AI models might be able to 'speak' and write more sophisticated language, and follow more detailed prompts, they "are highly unlikely to gain complex reasoning skills," the researchers concluded.</p>

<p>“The prevailing narrative that this type of AI is a threat to humanity prevents the widespread adoption and development of these technologies, and also diverts attention from the genuine issues that require our focus,” said Dr Harish Tayyar Madabushi, computer scientist at the University of Bath and co-author of the study.</p>

<p>"Our study shows that the fear that a model will go away and do something completely unexpected, innovative and potentially dangerous is not valid," the release quoted him as saying.</p>

<p>Published in Science Advances, the study found evidence of 'genomic fossils' in bird DNA that will help shed light on how birds evolved.</p>

<p>"By studying the DNA of living birds, we can try to detect patterns of genetic sequences that changed just after one of the most important events in Earth’s history,” said lead author Jake Berv, referring to the asteroid strike 66 million years ago that's thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs.</p>

<p>“The signature of those events seems to have imprinted into the genomes of the survivors in a way that we can detect tens of millions of years later,” Berv said.</p>

<p>A 50-year-old American woman who was found chained to a tree in a forest in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district on Saturday (July 27), had shackled herself, police and her doctor&nbsp;told the BBC.</p>
