<p>When it comes to India, the travel industry also picked up a pace as according to the Amex Trendex, which is a trend report from American Express, consumers celebrated, shopped, and travelled more thoughtfully this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report, published in October, stated that Covid variants last year disrupted the long-awaited plans of many consumers. More than half (52%) of consumers had plans cancelled last holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report mentioned that 8 in 10 (87%) Indian consumers agree that they are thinking about starting or restarting the tradition of travelling during the holiday season because they want to spend more quality time with loved ones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian consumers also gave thought to support the local economy as 6-in-10 respondents are planning on spending more at small businesses this holiday season compared to 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sanjay Khanna, the CEO of American Express Banking Corp India, said, "We see two strong shifts in the Indian consumer’s spending patterns this holiday season. One, there is higher indulgence in experiences they would like to share with family and friends and two, there is a shift towards more thoughtful gifting like sustainable products from local brands, thereby supporting smaller entrepreneurs or local shop owners."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report mentioned that highest amongst all the surveyed countries, 75% of Indian respondents want to plan a holiday event for family and/or friends this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It further mentioned that 82% of Indian adults and 83% of Indian GenZers and Millennials are planning to celebrate the holiday season with family. Around 67% of Indian respondents want to attend cultural events including holidays, parades, and festivals this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also mentioned that online shopping, digital payments and earning while spending is quite popular with Indian consumers as 9 out of 10 agree that they are more likely to shop online if free shipping and free returns are given as an option. The report mentioned that around 88% agree that they want to earn credit card rewards for online purchases this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Heathrow representative said&nbsp;that there was a technical issue with the terminal’s baggage system which was fixed later. The travellers were able to check-in&nbsp;as usual but some of them arrived without their bags.</p>

<p>Researchers at the University Psychiatric Clinics in Basel, Switzerland, revealed that the more different places people visit, the better they feel about their emotional and psychological well-being—even if their mental health problems remain.</p>

<p>The study looked at 106 patients with mental health concerns such as affective disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders before the pandemic occurred.</p>

<p>Some were hospital inpatients, while others were outpatients who lived at home but required regular medical attention.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These patients took an extra phone around with them for a week in order to track their travels using GPS.</p>

<p>They also filled out questionnaires about their subjective happiness, psychological flexibility, and mental health problems.</p>

<p>When the authors compared the findings of these surveys to GPS maps, they discovered that more movement in space and time was associated with a stronger sense of wellbeing, even though the symptoms of mental health disorders remained roughly the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Outpatients spent roughly a third of their day at home, but they moved much more than inpatients, who spent the majority of their time in the hospital.</p>

<p>Patients with phobias or worries about leaving safe settings had significantly poorer mobility and a smaller activity area, as expected.</p>

<p>Other indicators of mental illness, on the other hand, did not appear to have the same impact on a patient's daily activities.&nbsp;</p>

Travellers opt for 'staycation' amid threats of second wave of COVID-19

<p>Flights from Moscow to Geneva will resume from Aug. 15 for passengers with residence permits in Switzerland, the TASS news agency reported on Saturday, citing the Swiss embassy in Moscow.</p>

<p>Just like air travel, now beware of carrying excess luggage while travelling in trains as well.</p>

<p>As a result of numerous complaints regarding excess baggage being towed into train compartments, the Indian Railways has decided to strictly enforce its over-three-decades-old baggage allowance rules, which will see passengers paying up to six times the stipulated amount as penalty, if caught travelling with overweight luggage, an official said today.</p>

<p>According to the prescribed norms, a sleeper class and a second class passenger can carry luggage weighing 40 kg and 35 kg respectively without paying any extra money and a maximum of 80 kg and 70 kg respectively by paying for the excess luggage at the parcel office. The excess luggage would have to be put in the luggage van.</p>

<p>"The rules were already in place, we are just enforcing them strictly now. Passengers are allowed to book and carry excess luggage in the luggage van, up to the maximum limit, on the payment of a fee equivalent to one-and-a-half times the luggage rate.</p>

<p>"If a passenger is found travelling with un-booked luggage weighing more than the free allowance, the excess weight will be charged six times the luggage rate. The move is to ensure passenger convenience and address the issue of cramped compartments," Ved Prakash, Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, said.</p>

<p>Officials said unlike at the airports, where the luggage of each passenger is weighed, the railways will carry out random checks among the passengers.</p>

<p>For example, if a passenger is travelling 500 km with luggage weighing 80 kg in the sleeper class, he can book his excess baggage of 40 kg for Rs 109 in the luggage van.</p>

<p>However, if he fails to do so and is caught with the excess luggage, he will end up paying a penalty of Rs 654.</p>

<p>Similarly, an AC first class passenger can carry 70 kg of luggage for free and a maximum of 150 kg, after paying a fee for the excess 80 kg.&nbsp</p>

<p>An AC two-tier passenger can carry 50 kg of luggage for free and a maximum of 100 kg by paying a fee for the excess 50 kg.</p>

<p>The railways will also ensure that trunks, suitcases and boxes adhere to the prescribed measurements of 100cm x 60cm x 25cm (length, breadth, height) for personal luggage to be carried in the compartments.</p>

<p>If the trunks, suitcases and boxes exceed any one of the dimensions, those would have to be booked and carried in the luggage van, Prakash said.</p>

<p>The national transporter has launched a special drive (June 1-6) across all its zones to enforce the rules.</p>
