Tiger Woods revealed Tuesday he had undergone surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon, derailing the veteran golf superstar's comeback plans in the latest injury setback to rock the twilight of his glittering career.
"As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured," Woods said in a post on X.
"This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon."
Woods added a comment from Stucken, who said the surgery "went smoothly and we expect a full recovery".
Woods concluded: "I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support."
Woods gave no timetable for his possible return from his latest debilitating injury.&nbsp;
However the recovery time from an Achilles rupture can often last several months, which would almost certainly rule Woods out from playing in any of this season's majors if his latest injury follows the same timeframe.&nbsp;
The 15-time major champion hasn't teed it up in a tournament since the Open Championship last July.
After another back surgery in September he did play alongside 15-year-old son Charlie in the PNC Championship family event in Florida in December.

"I'll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event," he said ahead of last year's British Open at Royal Troon.
Speaking in December following his back surgery in September, Woods maintained that the "fire still burns to compete."
"The difference is the recovery of the body to do it is not what it used to be," he admitted. "That's part of age and part of an athlete's journey."
However, he acknowledged that he was uncertain about how much he would be able to play in 2025.

The five-time champion at Augusta National made the announcement Tuesday morning. He will play nine more practice holes on Wednesday before making a final decision, but will be doing so with the intention of playing Thursday.

"As of right now," Woods said, "I feel like I'm going to play."

Woods was asked if he believes he can win this week. "I do,"&nbsp;he said.

There had been plenty of signals in recent days that Woods was on the cusp of deciding it was time to play again.

He came to Augusta National for a practice round last week, then returned Sunday&nbsp;saying he'd be "a game-time decision" and Monday for more. On Tuesday morning, with bad weather in the forecast, he spent plenty of time in the practice areas.

"It's great to be back,"&nbsp;Woods said.

He's scheduled to tee off Thursday at 10:34 a.M. With Louis Oosthuizen and Joaquin Niemann. That threesome plays again Friday starting at 1:41 p.M.

Woods played in December at the PNC Challenge, a 36-hole scramble on a flat Florida course where he and his son Charlie finished second to John Daly and his son. Woods was allowed to use a cart in that event, and when those rounds were over he flatly dismissed any notion that his game was tour-ready again.

"I can't compete against these guys right now, no," Woods said on Dec. 19.

"It's going to take a lot of work to get to where I feel like I can compete at these guys and be at a high level."

About 3-1/2 months later, Woods apparently feels differently. If he plays, he'll be in the Masters for the 24th time; he's finished in the top five 12 times in his previous 23 appearances.

"I love competing,"&nbsp;Woods said.

"I feel like if I can still compete at the highest level, I'm going to. And if I feel like I can still win, I'm going to play. But if I feel like I can't, then you won't see me out here."

"Have a long way to go before I can challenge again. The rehab will not be fun but I enjoy the challenge of being pushed. Perhaps one day can compete for the best," said the golfer.&nbsp;

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday said that excessive speed was the primary cause of a February car accident involving golfer Tiger Woods.

The car flipped several times during the accident in Ranchos Palos Verdes, leaving the 45-year-old, 15-time major champion with a shattered right leg.

"The primary causal factor for this traffic collision was driving at a speed unsafe for the road conditions and the inability to negotiate the curve of the roadway. Estimated speeds at the first area of impact were 84 to 87 miles per hour," said Alex Villanueva.

Surgery was performed to repair "significant orthopaedic injuries" to Woods' lower right leg, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center chief medical officer Anish Mahajan said in a statement released on Woods' Twitter handle.

No other vehicle or were involved in the accident and the site of the accident is known as "hotspot" for high-speed accidents in recent times.&nbsp;

Villanueva said there was no evidence that the legendary golfer was under the influence of narcotics, alcohol or meditation.&nbsp;

Gonzalez, who was the first law enforcement official to arrive at the scene of the incident, said Woods was conscious when he initially saw him trapped in his vehicle and appeared "calm and lucid" to recognize himself.&nbsp;

According to the Sheriff, all Woods could face would be a low-level offence known as an infraction if investigators conclude that he was not paying attention or speeding.

Alex also added that Wood's brand new SUV was equipped with an in-vehicle data recorder that may help in understanding the cause of the accident.&nbsp;

"We're hoping obviously there's going to be... this black box and we'll have some information about the speed. It will may be a factor in this accident."
