<p>However, there is an exception to the imposed ban. If the use of the tech is required to support judicial investigations or fight crimes, these biometric data-based systems can still be used. The agency in a statement said, “The moratorium arises from the need to regulate eligibility requirements, conditions and guarantees relating to facial recognition, in compliance with the principle of proportionality."</p>

<p>Expressing concerns over the security of these systems, the watchdog highlighted that under EU and Italian law, the processing of personal data by public bodies using video devices is generally allowed on only public interest grounds. It further suggested if municipalities want to use these systems, they will have to meet “urban security pacts” with central government representatives.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Southern Italian city of Lecce and Tuscan city of Arezzo are the two municipalities under radar for the planned use of these technologies. As per the authorities, Lecce municipality would begin using a technology based on facial recognition whereas for Tuscan they noted that the local police were due to be equipped with infrared super glasses that can recognise car number plates.</p>

<p>The watchdog has ordered the Lecce municipality to submit information about the systems used along with their functions and legality. Another set of information sought by the watchdog is a list of databases accessed by its monitoring devices.&nbsp;</p>

At eastern Australia’s Warilla Hotel facial recognition software are used to identify addicts who have been asked to be barred from betting sites. Supporters say it will help curb gambling problem in a country where the addiction affects about 1 percent of the population and annual losses run to billions of dollars, reported Al Jazeera.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Space tourism began in 2001 when Tito paid $20 million to ride a Russian rocket to the International Space Station.</p>

<p>The appeals court backed the antitrust watchdog's charge that&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;abused the retailers' economic dependency on the company but tossed the fixed-pricing charge, one of the two sources said.</p>

<p>It also reduced the time scope of the charge of an alleged restriction of the wholesalers' clientele, the same source said.</p>

<p>The court also decided to significantly lower the rate applied to calculate the overall fine, the source added.</p>

<p>The French antitrust authority had used a high rate in 2020 given the size and financial firepower of&nbsp;Apple, the source said.</p>

<p>Apple&nbsp;said it would appeal the decision. It did not mention the amount of the fine issued by the court.</p>

<p>Samsung&nbsp;Electronics Co Ltd's third-quarter profit could tumble 25 per cent, the first year-on-year decline in nearly three years, as an economic downturn saps demand for electronic devices and&nbsp;chips that power them.</p>

<p>Operating profit for&nbsp;Samsung, the world's biggest memory chip and smartphone maker, likely fell to 11.8 trillion won ($8.3 billion) in the July-September quarter, according to a Refinitiv SmartEstimate from 22 analysts.</p>

<p>"Being the world's top memory chip maker, top in TV and mobile OLED displays, and top in smartphone shipments,&nbsp;Samsung&nbsp;is highly sensitive to the economy, with profits easily linked to demand," said Greg Roh, head of research at Hyundai Motor Securities.</p>

<p>It would be the first profit decline since the first quarter of 2020, early on in the pandemic, and the lowest level of quarterly profit since the first quarter of 2021. Until this latest quarter, robust demand for devices as people were forced to stay at home has driven large profit gains for the South Korean tech giant.</p>

<p>Operating profit for&nbsp;Samsung's chip business likely fell by nearly a third to 6.8 trillion won, an average of seven estimates showed.</p>

<p>Prices of some DRAM memory chips, widely used in smartphones and PCs, tumbled 14 per cent&nbsp;in the quarter while prices for NAND flash chips, used in data storage, fell 8 per cent, according to TrendForce data.</p>

<p>Shares in&nbsp;Samsung, which will announce preliminary results at about 8.40 local time on Friday (2340 GMT on Thursday), have fallen about 30 per cent&nbsp;this year. That compares with a 37 per cent&nbsp;slump for the Philadelphia Semiconductor index.</p>

<p>Samsung's mobile business is also expected to see profits tumble with forecasts calling for a 17 per cent&nbsp;fall to 2.8 trillion won, although the launch of the company's pricy new foldable phones during the quarter raised the average selling price.</p>

<p>Kim Yang-jae, an analyst at Daol Investment &amp; Securities, estimates that&nbsp;Samsung's smartphone shipments dropped 11 per cent in the quarter from the same period a year earlier to about 62.6 million smartphones after distribution channels cut orders.</p>

Operating profit for Samsung, the world's biggest memory chip and smartphone maker, likely fell to 11.8 trillion won ($8.3 billion) in the July-September quarter, according to a Refinitiv SmartEstimate from 22 analysts. "Being the world's top memory chip maker, top in TV and mobile OLED displays, and top in smartphone shipments, Samsung is highly sensitive to the economy, with profits easily linked to demand," said Greg Roh, head of research at Hyundai Motor Securities. Until this latest quarter, robust demand for devices as people were forced to stay at home has driven large profit gains for the South Korean tech giant. Operating profit for Samsung's chip business likely fell by nearly a third to 6.8 trillion won, an average of seven estimates showed. Prices of some DRAM memory chips, widely used in smartphones and PCs, tumbled 14 per cent in the quarter while prices for NAND flash chips, used in data storage, fell 8 per cent, according to TrendForce data. Shares in Samsung, which will announce preliminary results at about 8.40 local time on Friday (2340 GMT on Thursday), have fallen about 30 per cent this year. That compares with a 37 per cent slump for the Philadelphia Semiconductor index. Samsung's mobile business is also expected to see profits tumble with forecasts calling for a 17 per cent fall to 2.8 trillion won, although the launch of the company's pricy new foldable phones during the quarter raised the average selling price. Kim Yang-jae, an analyst at Daol Investment & Securities, estimates that Samsung's smartphone shipments dropped 11 per cent in the quarter from the same period a year earlier to about 62.6 million smartphones after distribution channels cut orders. <p>You may know Queen Elizabeth II for several reasons, but did you know that she was known to be Britain’s first high-tech monarch? The Queen was more tech-savvy than you could imagine. She was an enthusiastic advocate of technology, and there are several reasons to believe so.</p>

<p>Her coronation in 1953 was the first ever to be televised. She was an early adopter of the internet. In 1976, she sent her first email when visiting the Royal signals and radar establishment in Malvern, England.</p>

<p>It’s reported that she never wrote her emails herself but dictated them. British computer scientist Peter Kirsetin is the man who actually helped&nbsp;the queen in setting up her account in 1976 or rather say, he is the one who put the Queen of England on the internet.</p>

<p>Her username was also quite interesting – “HME2”, which stands for Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Her interest in technology was not just limited to sending emails, in 1997, she launched the first version of the royal family’s website, years before some major media publications in the UK decided to go online.</p>

<p>In December 2007, she launched the royal family‘s YouTube channel, the channel today has 973,000 subscribers. Many of you would be surprised to know, but she was no stranger to social media. She used both Twitter and Instagram accounts as part of the royal family. In 2014, the Queen sent a tweet from the @Britishmonarchy Twitter account in front of a live audience. She had posted to the ‘British monarchy’ Twitter account, which was later renamed, today the account is called ‘The Royal Family.’</p>
