Grammy award-winning singer Taylor Swift will make her film directorial debut with an original script she wrote, Searchlight Pictures said on Friday.&nbsp;Walt Disney Co.-owned Searchlight, known for Oscar best picture winners "The Shape of Water" and "Nomadland" as well as 2022 drama “The Banshees of Inisherin,” did not disclose the subject of Swift's film or when it would be released.

“Taylor is a ‘once in a generation’ artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey,” Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in a statement.

The “Shake it Off” singer was the first person to win three Video of the Year awards at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards and the second woman to direct a winning Best Longform Video, which was Swift's 2021 “All Too Well: The Short Film.”

Swift is an 11-time Grammy winner and the only female artist in Grammy history to win the coveted Album of the Year award three times.

She recently earned another Grammy nomination for Song of the Year, the 10-minute version of "All Too Well," which is eligible for the Best Live-Action Short category at the 2023 Oscars.

Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 24, 2023.

Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Selena Gomez and Adam Sandler took home the top prizes on Tuesday night at the 2022 People's Choice Awards. The fan-voted awards show spans over 40 categories and honours performers across movies, television, music, and pop culture.&nbsp;

The Ticketmaster fiasco over Taylor Swift concert tickets' sale has now reached the US senate. An antitrust panel will reportedly now go ahead with a hearing on the lack of competition in the country's ticketing industry following the controversy that left a bitter taste for several of Swift's fans wanting to buy tickets to her concert.&nbsp;

Ticketmaster's parent company, Live Nation, has blamed presale problems for Swift’s Eras tour – the pop superstar’s first US tour in five years – on “unprecedented demand” and an effort to keep out bots run by ticket scalpers. 
 
Last week, several registered fans struggled with glitches for hours to get tickets in the presale, and tickets quickly began appearing for resale for as much as US$22,700 (£19,100, A$33,500). The confusion eventually led to Ticketmaster cancelling sales to the general public. It later claimed the demand for Swift tickets “could have filled 900 stadiums”. 
 
Days later, Swift stated that it was "excruciating" for her to watch fans struggling to secure tickets. She added that Ticketmaster had assured her it would be able to handle the demand. 
 
The chaos attracted the attention of several US politicians and many voiced their concern&nbsp;about how Ticketmaster has over the years become the dominant platform for ticketing in the US. The company merged with Live Nation in 2010 and since then has enjoyed a monopoly in the market, something that congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez feels should not have been approved in the first place. 
 
“Daily reminder that Ticketmaster is a monopoly, its merger with Live Nation should never have been approved, and they need to be reined in,” she tweeted. “Break them up.” 
Tennessee’s attorney general, Jonathan Skrmetti, has said he will launch a consumer protection investigation into the company after his office was bombarded with complaints from Swift fans. 
 
Senator Amy Klobuchar will chair the panel that will also have senator Mike Lee, the top Republican, on the committee.&nbsp;

“The high fees, site disruptions, and cancellations that customers experienced shows how Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company does not face any pressure to continually innovate and improve,” Klobuchar said. “We will hold a hearing on how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industry harms customers and artists alike.”

The 2022 American Music Awards commenced on Sunday night at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Wayne Brady as its host and D-Nice as its house DJ. Featuring a star-studded lineup of famous stars from the world of music and showbiz, the annual fan-voted awards show made waves online as fans saw their favourite artists getting honoured for their craft.

The 2022 American Music Awards commenced on Sunday night at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Wayne Brady as its host and D-Nice as its house DJ. Featuring a star-studded lineup of famous stars from the world of music and showbiz, the annual fan-voted awards show made waves online as fans saw their favourite artists getting honoured for their craft. With eight nominations, Bad Bunny topped the list, followed by Drake, Taylor Swift and Beyonce with six nominations each. Harry Styles, Adele and The Weeknd had five nominations each. Taylor Swift, who had&nbsp;six nominations this year at American Music Awards, has bagged an AMA trophy for her&nbsp;re-recorded album 'Red'&nbsp;for Favourite Pop Album category. The ceremony commenced on Sunday&nbsp;at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and saw some of the biggest faces from the music industry in attendance.

“I cannot tell you how much my re-recorded albums mean to me, but I never expected or assumed they’d mean anything to you,” Swift said as she accepted the award. “I can’t thank you enough for caring about this album.”

The singer also bagged&nbsp;the coveted Artist of the Year award along with four other trophies including Favorite Country Female Artist, Favourite Female Pop Artist,&nbsp;Favourite Music Video, and Favourite Country Album.

While receiving the honour, Swift thanked her diehard Swifties for voting for her. “I found that the more music I made, the more music I put out, the happier I was,” said Swift.&nbsp;“I have the fans to thank, essentially, for my happiness.”

The 32-year-old didn't mention last week’s controversy over Ticketmaster’s sales for her The Eras tour, which were filled with glitches and prompted the ticketing company to apologise to her.

Swift has been re-recording some of her old albums due to a dispute with her former record label.&nbsp; She has already re-recorded two albums so far and she is expected to re-record four more, including 'Speak Now' and 'Reputation'.&nbsp;

American pop sensation Taylor Swift, on Friday, addressed the widespread criticism&nbsp;over Ticketmaster's handling of ticket sales for her The Eras tour. In a social media post, she slammed the company for the chaotic ticket sale that landed them in an antitrust investigation by the US justice department,&nbsp;writing that it was "excruciating" to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.&nbsp;The investigation will look into whether Ticketmaster's parent company Live Nation Entertainment has abused its power in the multibillion-dollar live entertainment industry and to which extent.

Swift's statement read, "Well. It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans. We’ve been doing this for decades together and over the years, I’ve brought so many elements of my career in house. I’ve done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do."

The singer continued, "It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse."

Speaking of the actions being taken to address the issue, Swift added, "There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward."

"I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them," the 32-year-old stated.

To conclude, she shared a message for her fans who couldn't get their hands on the tickets. "And to those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get-together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means," Swift said.

Ticketmaster, which is considered a dominating force in the US ticketing industry, blamed "extraordinarily high demands and insufficient remaining ticket inventory" for the cancellation of the public sale.

The Eras tour&nbsp;marks Swift's first tour in the last four years. She was on the road, out and about, back in 2018 for the Reputation&nbsp;tour.

The upcoming Swift tour will kickstart on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona. The singer will visit Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles in early August. International shows and their locations&nbsp;are yet to be announced.

"I have absolutely NO idea what to do now," said 23-year-old fan Cody Rhodes, whose cousin had a presale code earlier this week -- but after waiting five hours, had been booted out of the queue.&nbsp;

"Ticketmaster's statement was so vague. They said cancelled not postponed so now I wonder if there are any tickets left for them to sell," the 23-year-old told AFP.&nbsp;

He doubted his ability to afford resale tickets which can soar into the thousands of dollars, but said he'd likely try. "It just really sucks that Ticketmaster handled this situation so poorly," Rhodes said.

In a blog post, the company said that on November 15 over 2 million tickets were sold for Swift's string of shows set to kick off in March -- the most tickets ever sold for an artist in one day.

More than 3.5 million people pre-registered as "verified fans," a system intended to keep out bots, and some 1.5 million people were then given presale codes to purchase tickets.

But Ticketmaster nevertheless cited a "staggering number of bot attacks" along with fans without codes trying to purchase tickets -- meaning their site experienced 3.5 billion system requests, they said, four times the company's previous peak.

"Even when a high demand on sale goes flawlessly from a tech perspective, many fans are left empty handed," Ticketmaster said.&nbsp;

"Based on the volume of traffic to our site, Taylor would need to perform over 900 stadium shows (almost 20x the number of shows she is doing)...that's a stadium show every single night for the next 2.5 years."

Addressing&nbsp;Ticketmaster parent Live Nation Entertainment Inc in a letter, Senator Amy Klobuchar, chair of the Senate antitrust panel, voiced "serious concern about the state of competition in the ticketing industry and its harmful impact on consumers".

"Ticketmaster’s power in the primary ticket market insulates it from the competitive pressures that typically push companies to innovate and improve their services," added Klobuchar. "That can result in the types of dramatic service failures we saw this week, where consumers are the ones that pay the price."&nbsp;

- Unwind merger? -

The debacle reignited concern over Ticketmaster's privileged position in the ticketing industry.

The company -- which is owned by Live Nation, the event promotion behemoth -- is a dominating force, and for years concertgoers have complained of hidden fees, soaring costs, rampant scalpers and limited tickets due to presales.

A number of lawmakers questioned the 2010 merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation, with some calling for probes into the state of the industry's competition.

A number of anti-trust and consumer protection groups in recent months have launched a campaign "to investigate and unwind the 2010 Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger," saying that its vast power in the industry allows it to "hike up ticket prices, tack on expensive junk fees, and exploit artists, independent venues, and fans."

When Taylor Swift announced her first tour in five years, Jacob Landry couldn't wait to jump in line to see his favorite artist take the stage.

But after diligently registering for and receiving a presale code, the 20-year-old jazzed for his first concert ever was confronted with a massive queue, site glitches and soaring costs.

Landry's experience was far from unique: thousands of social media users reported similar experiences, including 19-year-old Kathryn Berry, who told AFP the process that ultimately left her with nosebleed seats in Nashville turned into a "thirteen-hour ordeal."

Berry said she's "happy I got tickets, but definitely holding a grudge against Ticketmaster for a while."

For many music fans that grudge is longstanding.

The American ticketing industry, which the company Ticketmaster overwhelmingly dominates, has for years left concertgoers frustrated by hidden fees, soaring costs, rampant scalpers and limited tickets due to presales.

Swifties flooding ticketing sites linked to by Ticketmaster described crashes, outages, and other snafus, and many who were granted presale codes ultimately couldn't nab tickets.

Cody Rhodes said his cousin received a code granting access to buy seats for Swift's May show in Philadelphia, but after waiting five hours they were booted out of the queue.&nbsp;

By the time they got back through the line, there were no tickets left.

"I was FLOORED," the 23-year-old told AFP. "It was kind of funny at first like wow haha Taylor is so popular everyone wants to see her! Queen!"

"But every passing hour I was realizing the seriousness of it."

Rhodes said he'll try again when the general sale opens on Friday, saying his loose budget is $400 per ticket.

"That is a lot of money for us really, but we are huge fans and have waited so long," Rhodes said, but added he's already seeing resale tickets in the $2,000 to $9,000 range for the kinds of seats they were hoping for.

"Ticketmaster is a money-hungry service with little to no regard to real fans. I think they will allow price gauging since it allows them to take advantage of situations like this," he said.

- 'Unchecked monopoly' - 
 
Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to an AFP interview request, but in a statement Tuesday the company said waiting fans should "please hang tight," citing "historically unprecedented demand" from millions.

The company also delayed one of the presales a full day.

The havoc spurred comment from a number of lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Richard Blumenthal, who urged an investigation into the "state of competition in the ticketing industry."

In 2010, Ticketmaster and the event promotion company behemoth Live Nation merged, which Congressman David Cicilline on Tuesday dubbed "an unchecked monopoly."

He and other legislators in 2021 called for a Justice Department probe into "Live Nation's efforts to jack up prices and strangle competition."

Swift fans have an enormous online presence and a zeal that leaves them well-positioned to call attention to their plight, but Krista Brown -- an analyst at the &nbsp;American Economic Liberties Project, which has urged unwinding the merger -- said the chaos "is just the latest example."

"This isn't about one artist's concert or one website crashing," Brown told AFP.

"Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment have a monopoly over the industry that lets it regularly abuse its power, leaving customers, artists and venues at its mercy."

Live Nation recently has reported soaring demand after several pent-up pandemic years, saying ticket sales are up 37 percent compared to 2019.

But while fans have complained of skyrocketing costs -- Bruce Springsteen show prices in the thousands of dollars triggered uproar earlier this year -- Ticketmaster responded to a recent query from Representative Bill Pascrell by blaming the resale ticketing market, and saying that "promoters and artist representatives set pricing strategy and price range parameters."

Many netizens took to Twitter to share their views on the controversial scene and shared how they think such videos internalise&nbsp;fatphobia. They argued that eating disorders stem from socially mandated norms which usually dictate that having a few extra kilos equals to being unattractive.

It's confirmed! Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey have collaborated for the former's forthcoming album, 'Midnights'. The big reveal came when the 32-year-old shared all the track titles of her upcoming album on social media via a game called 'Midnights Mayhem With Me'.

Swift considers Del Rey her inspiration and has a mountain of respect for her. During her speech at the Billboard Women In Music 2019 event, Swift described the 'Summertime Sadness' singer as one of her favourite artists of this decade and "the most influential artist in pop". So, fans have a lot of expectations from this collab and are excited about its release.

TMZ and People have learned from their sources that the singer was approached months ago by SB honchos, however, Taylor made it very clear that she didn't want to perform until she finished re-recording all of her first 6 albums.

For those unaware, Scooter Braun was part of a group that acquired the rights to her first 6 albums in 2019. And since, Braun has sold the master recordings, Swift has vowed to rerecord them to regain its ownership. She has already rerecorded and released 'Red' and 'Fearless'.

The singer is currently working on the remaining 4 albums, i.e. 'Taylor Swift', 'Speak Now', '1989', and 'Reputation' and they are expected to come out by next year.

Singer-Songwriter Taylor Swift recently revealed the thought process which goes behind the lyrics formation of her `iconic` songs. The 'Bad Blood' singer accepted the Nashville Songwriter Awards` songwriter-artist of the decade honour on Tuesday at the Ryman Auditorium. 
 
"I've never talked about this publicly before," Swift told the audience, Billboard reported. 
 
"It's dorky," she said. "But I also have, in my mind, secretly, established genre categories for lyrics I write. Three of them, to be exact: They are affectionately titled Quill Lyrics, Fountain Pen Lyrics and Glitter Gel Pen Lyrics.... I came up with these categories based on what writing tool I imagine having in my hand when I scribbled it down - figuratively. I don`t actually have a quill. Anymore. I broke it once when I was mad," Billboard reported. 
 
A glitter gel pen is used for lyrics that "are the drunk girl at the party who tells you that you look like an Angel in the bathroom." Swift's hit song 'Shake It Off' was used as an example for this category. 
 
The fountain pen is used when the pop star is "trying to paint a vivid picture of a situation, down to the chipped paint on the door frame and the incense dust on the vinyl shelf" and 'All Too Well' was given as the example. 
 
Swift continued her speech by elaborating on the reasons she came up with the lyric classifications."Why did I make these categories, you ask? Because I love doing this thing we are fortunate enough to call a job," she said. "Writing songs is my life`s work and my hobby and my never-ending thrill. I broke it once when I was mad," Billboard reported. A glitter gel pen is used for lyrics that "are the drunk girl at the party who tells you that you look like an Angel in the bathroom." Swift's hit song 'Shake It Off' was used as an example for this category. The fountain pen is used when the pop star is "trying to paint a vivid picture of a situation, down to the chipped paint on the door frame and the incense dust on the vinyl shelf" and 'All Too Well' was given as the example. Swift continued her speech by elaborating on the reasons she came up with the lyric classifications."Why did I make these categories, you ask? Because I love doing this thing we are fortunate enough to call a job," she said. "Writing songs is my life`s work and my hobby and my never-ending thrill. I am moved beyond words that you, my peers, decided to honor me in this way for work I`d still be doing if I had never been recognized for it."
