Taylor Swift and two songwriters have mended their differences over the lyrics of her hit song ‘Shake It Off’ as they drop the lawsuit over copyright infringement. The three reached an agreement to end the lawsuit after it went public five years ago.&nbsp;

The two songwriters, Nathan Butler and Sean Hall have asked for a dismissal of the case. The trial on the same was scheduled to begin next month. They asked a judge to “[dimiss] this action in its entirety.”&nbsp;

The terms of the settlement have not been declared. Also, the credits to the song remain the same – Taylor Swift and original co-writers Max Martin and Shellback.&nbsp;

Nathan and Sean had sued Taylor Swift as they alleged that her song was lifted from their single ‘Playas Gon’ Play’ from the group 3LW. At the time, Taylor denied lifting their lyrics and said that she had neither heard the song before this nor of their group.&nbsp;

Taylor’s team argued that the song’s lyrics and tune could be similar because it is a part of everyday language and was part of the popular vernacular before Sean Hall and Nathan Butler wrote ‘Playas Gon’ Play’.

“I recall hearing phrases about players play and haters hate stated together by other children while attending school in Wyomissing Hills, and in high school in Hendersonville. These phrases were akin to other commonly used sayings like ‘don’t hate the playa, hate the game,’ ‘take a chill pill,’ and ‘say it, don’t spray it.’ … I was struck by messages that people prone to doing something will do it, and the best way to overcome it is to shrug it off and keep living,” Taylor said.&nbsp;

The songs appear to have nothing in common except the contested lines. The group, 3LW’s tune repeats the lyrics “Playas, they gonna play / And haters, they gonna hate,” while Taylor Swift’s track uses the lines “‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”

People's Choice Awards 2022: Full list of winners

The Ticketmaster fiasco over Taylor Swift concert tickets' sale has now reached the US senate. An antitrust panel will reportedly now go ahead with a hearing on the lack of competition in the country's ticketing industry following the controversy that left a bitter taste for several of Swift's fans wanting to buy tickets to her concert.&nbsp;

Ticketmaster's parent company, Live Nation, has blamed presale problems for Swift’s Eras tour – the pop superstar’s first US tour in five years – on “unprecedented demand” and an effort to keep out bots run by ticket scalpers.

Last week, several registered fans struggled with glitches for hours to get tickets in the presale, and tickets quickly began appearing for resale for as much as US$22,700 (£19,100, A$33,500). The confusion eventually led to Ticketmaster cancelling sales to the general public. It later claimed the demand for Swift tickets “could have filled 900 stadiums”.

Days later, Swift stated that it was "excruciating" for her to watch fans struggling to secure tickets. She added that Ticketmaster had assured her it would be able to handle the demand.

The chaos attracted the attention of several US politicians and many voiced their concern&nbsp;about how Ticketmaster has over the years become the dominant platform for ticketing in the US. The company merged with Live Nation in 2010 and since then has enjoyed a monopoly in the market, something that congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez feels should not have been approved in the first place.

“Daily reminder that Ticketmaster is a monopoly, its merger with Live Nation should never have been approved, and they need to be reined in,” she tweeted. “Break them up.”
Tennessee’s attorney general, Jonathan Skrmetti, has said he will launch a consumer protection investigation into the company after his office was bombarded with complaints from Swift fans.

Senator Amy Klobuchar will chair the panel that will also have senator Mike Lee, the top Republican, on the committee.&nbsp;

“The high fees, site disruptions, and cancellations that customers experienced shows how Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company does not face any pressure to continually innovate and improve,” Klobuchar said. “We will hold a hearing on how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industry harms customers and artists alike.”

American Music Awards 2022: Taylor Swift takes 6 AMAs home, wins trophy for re-recorded album 'Red'

Taylor Swift is back to being the reigning queen of Billboard 200 albums chart after being <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/drake-21-savages-her-loss-displaces-taylor-swift-from-number-1-534119">displaced by Drake </a>and 21 Savage. Drake’s ‘Her Loss’ topped Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ but one week of playing in radio and streaming platforms has brought back to top of the list.

The album racked up 204,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending November 17 (down 32%).

The album topped the chart for its first two weeks of release.

According to the announcement, ‘Midnights’ is the first album to tally at least 200,000 units in each of its first four weeks of release since Adele’s ‘25’. Adele’s album came seven years ago.&nbsp;

Taylor Swift, meanwhile, was all over the news as Ticketmaster apologised to her and fans over the sale of her tour tickets. The website crashed due to heavy demand and some were selling for exorbitant amounts.&nbsp;

Apart from ‘Midnights’, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson landed his highest-charting solo album to date with ‘Faith in the Future’ landing at No. 5. Bruce Springsteen’s soul-covers collection ‘Only the Strong Survive’ landed at No. 8.

Taylor Swift is back at No 1 spot on Billboard 200 albums chart with 'Midnights'

American pop sensation Taylor Swift, on Friday, addressed the widespread criticism&nbsp;over Ticketmaster's handling of ticket sales for her The Eras tour. In a social media post, she slammed the company for the chaotic ticket sale that landed them in an antitrust investigation by the US justice department,&nbsp;writing that it was "excruciating" to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.&nbsp;The investigation will look into whether Ticketmaster's parent company Live Nation Entertainment has abused its power in the multibillion-dollar live entertainment industry and to which extent.

Swift's statement read, "Well. It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans. We’ve been doing this for decades together and over the years, I’ve brought so many elements of my career in house. I’ve done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do."

The singer continued, "It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse."

Speaking of the actions being taken to address the issue, Swift added, "There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward."

"I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them," the 32-year-old stated.

To conclude, she shared a message for her fans who couldn't get their hands on the tickets. "And to those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get-together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means," Swift said.

Ticketmaster issues apology to Taylor Swift and fans for the ticket fiasco

After days of glitches and long waiting periods, Ticketmaster has cancelled Taylor Swift's U.S. stadium tour tickets sale on the website. Molly Gambhir brings you the details.

WION Fineprint | Ticketmaster: The 'Anti-Hero' of Swift's tour

As days of glitches and long waits left&nbsp;fans frustrated during presale windows, Ticketmaster released a statement on Thursday and announced that they are cancelling tomorrow's slated public sale.

"Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled," the ticketing broker tweeted.

It was not immediately clear whether that sale would be rescheduled, or how many unsold tickets remained. Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to an AFP request for clarification.

"I have absolutely NO idea what to do now," said 23-year-old fan Cody Rhodes, whose cousin had a presale code earlier this week -- but after waiting five hours, had been booted out of the queue.&nbsp;

"Ticketmaster's statement was so vague. They said cancelled not postponed so now I wonder if there are any tickets left for them to sell," the 23-year-old told AFP.&nbsp;

He doubted his ability to afford resale tickets which can soar into the thousands of dollars, but said he'd likely try. "It just really sucks that Ticketmaster handled this situation so poorly," Rhodes said.

In a blog post, the company said that on November 15 over 2 million tickets were sold for Swift's string of shows set to kick off in March -- the most tickets ever sold for an artist in one day.

More than 3.5 million people pre-registered as "verified fans," a system intended to keep out bots, and some 1.5 million people were then given presale codes to purchase tickets.

But Ticketmaster nevertheless cited a "staggering number of bot attacks" along with fans without codes trying to purchase tickets -- meaning their site experienced 3.5 billion system requests, they said, four times the company's previous peak.

"Even when a high demand on sale goes flawlessly from a tech perspective, many fans are left empty handed," Ticketmaster said.&nbsp;

"Based on the volume of traffic to our site, Taylor would need to perform over 900 stadium shows (almost 20x the number of shows she is doing)...that's a stadium show every single night for the next 2.5 years."

Addressing&nbsp;Ticketmaster parent Live Nation Entertainment Inc in a letter, Senator Amy Klobuchar, chair of the Senate antitrust panel, voiced "serious concern about the state of competition in the ticketing industry and its harmful impact on consumers".

"Ticketmaster’s power in the primary ticket market insulates it from the competitive pressures that typically push companies to innovate and improve their services," added Klobuchar. "That can result in the types of dramatic service failures we saw this week, where consumers are the ones that pay the price."&nbsp;

- Unwind merger? -

The debacle reignited concern over Ticketmaster's privileged position in the ticketing industry.

The company -- which is owned by Live Nation, the event promotion behemoth -- is a dominating force, and for years concertgoers have complained of hidden fees, soaring costs, rampant scalpers and limited tickets due to presales.

A number of lawmakers questioned the 2010 merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation, with some calling for probes into the state of the industry's competition.

Tennessee's Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti meanwhile voiced concern over the presale, and said "he and his Consumer Protection team will use every available tool to ensure that no consumer protection laws were violated."

A number of anti-trust and consumer protection groups in recent months have launched a campaign "to investigate and unwind the 2010 Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger," saying that its vast power in the industry allows it to "hike up ticket prices, tack on expensive junk fees, and exploit artists, independent venues, and fans."

Ticketmaster cancels public sale of Taylor Swift tickets

Taylor Swift fans are not happy with the singer's radio silence after Ticketmaster announced it was canceling Friday sales for her new tour. The decision was taken after millions of customers were unable to book tickets after waiting for hours.&nbsp;One "longtime and loyal" fan tweeted she was "disappointed" with the singer.&nbsp;

"I can't support you celebrating your Grammy noms and continuing to release remixes that fans are forced to buy while U stay silent on the @Ticketmaster disaster," she wrote.&nbsp;

"i cannot believe taylor swift is still silent about Ticketmaster," another wrote, while a third said, "taylor swift being so silent is crazy" with a skull emoji.&nbsp;

"taylor swift is human, she shouldn’t be excused from any wrongdoing," another fan tweeted.

A fifth fan pointedly tweeted at the pop star: "@taylorswift13 staying silent through all of this speaks volumes. We’re all just a dollar sign."&nbsp;

While another fan quoted Swift's 2011 song, 'The Story Of Us,' writing, "Never heard silence quite this loud…"

Fans also reacted in dismay and frustration with Ticketmaster Thursday after the company announced the cancellation of sales for Swift's Eras tour, citing "extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems."

The decision was taken after millions of customers were unable to book tickets after waiting for hours. One "longtime and loyal" fan tweeted she was "disappointed" with the singer. "I can't support you celebrating your Grammy noms and continuing to release remixes that fans are forced to buy while U stay silent on the @Ticketmaster disaster," she wrote. "i cannot believe taylor swift is still silent about Ticketmaster," another wrote, while a third said, "taylor swift being so silent is crazy" with a skull emoji. "taylor swift is human, she shouldn’t be excused from any wrongdoing," another fan tweeted. A fifth fan pointedly tweeted at the pop star: "@taylorswift13 staying silent through all of this speaks volumes. We’re all just a dollar sign." While another fan quoted Swift's 2011 song, 'The Story Of Us,' writing, "Never heard silence quite this loud…" Fans also reacted in dismay and frustration with Ticketmaster Thursday after the company announced the cancellation of sales for Swift's Eras tour, citing "extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems." Taylor Swift's fans miffed with singer for staying silent over Ticketmaster fiasco

When Taylor Swift announced her first tour in five years, Jacob Landry couldn't wait to jump in line to see his favorite artist take the stage.

But after diligently registering for and receiving a presale code, the 20-year-old jazzed for his first concert ever was confronted with a massive queue, site glitches and soaring costs.

Landry's experience was far from unique: thousands of social media users reported similar experiences, including 19-year-old Kathryn Berry, who told AFP the process that ultimately left her with nosebleed seats in Nashville turned into a "thirteen-hour ordeal."

Berry said she's "happy I got tickets, but definitely holding a grudge against Ticketmaster for a while."

For many music fans that grudge is longstanding.

The American ticketing industry, which the company Ticketmaster overwhelmingly dominates, has for years left concertgoers frustrated by hidden fees, soaring costs, rampant scalpers and limited tickets due to presales.

Swifties flooding ticketing sites linked to by Ticketmaster described crashes, outages, and other snafus, and many who were granted presale codes ultimately couldn't nab tickets.

Cody Rhodes said his cousin received a code granting access to buy seats for Swift's May show in Philadelphia, but after waiting five hours they were booted out of the queue.&nbsp;

By the time they got back through the line, there were no tickets left.

"I was FLOORED," the 23-year-old told AFP. "It was kind of funny at first like wow haha Taylor is so popular everyone wants to see her! Queen!"

"But every passing hour I was realizing the seriousness of it."

Rhodes said he'll try again when the general sale opens on Friday, saying his loose budget is $400 per ticket.

"That is a lot of money for us really, but we are huge fans and have waited so long," Rhodes said, but added he's already seeing resale tickets in the $2,000 to $9,000 range for the kinds of seats they were hoping for.

"Ticketmaster is a money-hungry service with little to no regard to real fans. I think they will allow price gauging since it allows them to take advantage of situations like this," he said.

- 'Unchecked monopoly' -

Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to an AFP interview request, but in a statement Tuesday the company said waiting fans should "please hang tight," citing "historically unprecedented demand" from millions.

The company also delayed one of the presales a full day.

The havoc spurred comment from a number of lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Richard Blumenthal, who urged an investigation into the "state of competition in the ticketing industry."

In 2010, Ticketmaster and the event promotion company behemoth Live Nation merged, which Congressman David Cicilline on Tuesday dubbed "an unchecked monopoly."

He and other legislators in 2021 called for a Justice Department probe into "Live Nation's efforts to jack up prices and strangle competition."

Swift fans have an enormous online presence and a zeal that leaves them well-positioned to call attention to their plight, but Krista Brown -- an analyst at the &nbsp;American Economic Liberties Project, which has urged unwinding the merger -- said the chaos "is just the latest example."

"This isn't about one artist's concert or one website crashing," Brown told AFP.

"Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment have a monopoly over the industry that lets it regularly abuse its power, leaving customers, artists and venues at its mercy."

Live Nation recently has reported soaring demand after several pent-up pandemic years, saying ticket sales are up 37 percent compared to 2019.

But while fans have complained of skyrocketing costs -- Bruce Springsteen show prices in the thousands of dollars triggered uproar earlier this year -- Ticketmaster responded to a recent query from Representative Bill Pascrell by blaming the resale ticketing market, and saying that "promoters and artist representatives set pricing strategy and price range parameters."

"As the resale ticketing market has grown to more than a $10 billion industry over the past few years, artists and teams have lost that revenue to resellers," Ticketmaster said, saying event organizers were trying to "recapture that lost revenue" via "market-based pricing."

Landry said he was originally willing to pay around $300 to see Swift, but with fees the final price landed at a $569.

He dipped into his savings to afford a spot.

Landry said he's feeling "relieved" now and that while the "process was ridiculous," it was worth it to see Swift's Arlington, Texas show: "I literally adore her."

And as Rhodes anxiously awaits the general sale's opening, he's hoping for a "crackdown" on Ticketmaster.

"Using another ticketing service is hardly an option," he said.

Taylor Swift tour chaos spurs calls to probe ticketing industry

You’d know it’s a Taylor Swift concert when a website selling tickets to one crashes on the first day. Millions of Swifties (as Taylor Swift fans call themselves) landed on Live Nation’s Ticketmaster website to book seats for her first tour in five years. It caused a massive outage and the website crashed. But before that, ticket prices skyrocketed as the demand for them rose.

So much so, the tickets started costing between $49 and $449 each. This was the website’s response to the “historically unprecedented demand” for Swift’s 52-date United States tour.

While presale tickets were initially only open to Taylor Swift fans selected as “verified fans” – a system set up to deter bots – some tickets were already being listed on resale sites such as StubHub for as much as US$22,700 each.

Gravitas: Taylor Swift creates history by claiming all 10 spots in U.S. singles chart

Taylor Swift is back creating musical milestones. On Monday, Swift created history by becoming the first artist to to simultaneously nab all 10 spots on the top US song chart, the Billboard Hot 100, with her new album 'Midnights.'

The song 'Anti-Hero' from the album was at the top of top spot.&nbsp;

It's the first time in the chart's 64-year history that a single artist has claimed the entire top 10, Billboard said.

The last artist to come close was Drake, who took nine of the coveted spots in September 2021.

"10 out of 10 of the Hot 100??? On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES," tweeted Swift, with a nod to her devoted fan base's love of searching for hidden clues in her content including titles, numbers and dates.

Swift released the highly anticipated 'Midnights' -- her 10th studio album -- on October 21, which also debuted at the top of Billboard's main albums chart with the biggest week for a release since Adele's '25' in 2015.

Earlier, the release of 'Midnights' had crashed Spotify for hours, but it still set a record as the most streamed album in a day, according to the platform.

The album's 13 songs tell "the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life," Swift said. Together, they form "a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour."

Swift's latest album sees her returning to pop and recalling some of her earliest hits after two pandemic albums, 'Folklore' and 'Evermore,' leaned towards folk.

It also drops as the 32-year-old makes good on her vow to re-record her first six albums so she can control their rights -- a process she was contractually allowed to begin in November 2020.She has released two of them thus far- 'Fearless' and 'Red.'

American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift's&nbsp;music video for the song 'Anti-Hero', which released across platforms on Friday, is grabbing people's attention for not-so-right reasons. Many users have&nbsp;pointed out the ‘subtle fatphobia’ in one of the scenes in the five-minute-long music video.&nbsp;In the controversial scene, Swift is seen stepping&nbsp;on a weighing scale which&nbsp;instead of showing her weight shows the word “Fat”.

Many netizens took to Twitter to share their views on the controversial scene and shared how they think such videos internalise&nbsp;fatphobia. They argued that eating disorders stem from socially mandated norms which usually dictate that having a few extra kilos equals to being unattractive.

A user wrote, "As an actual fat person genuinely how are we supposed to feel seeing this? watching a thin person remind the whole world that one of their biggest fears is being fat. is looking like me. demonizing the word fat while never having the experience of living in a fat body? Fatphobic. (sic)"

In Swift's defence, a fan commented, "Taylor at no point said being a certain size was bad. She didn’t say being fat was a problem. She literally said that she views herself as bigger than she clearly is due to her body dysmorphia. Regardless of what that scale said she would always see herself as fat. (sic)"

Netizens accuse Taylor Swift of fatphobia in new 'Anti-Hero' music video

Taylor Swift's 10th album 'Midnights', marking a gradual return to pop for the US singer-songwriter, sparked an online fan frenzy following its witching hour release on Friday -- and crashed Spotify in the process.

Swifties from the United States to France and Britain were forced to wait patiently for hours to get their first earful of Swift's latest sound on the streaming platform -- released at the stroke of midnight.

The album's 13 songs tell "the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life," Swift explained on Twitter.

Together, they form "a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour."

Once all Spotify issues were resolved -- mostly within the hour -- enthusiasts discovered melodies set to an electro-pop beat, complete with synths, dubstep-inspired rhythms and a more androgynous side to Swift's vocals.

The 32-year-old, who began her career in country before shifting to pop and becoming a megastar, abandons her more recent indie-folk vein in the new album.

The pop sound marks a departure from 'Evermore'&nbsp;and 'Folklore',&nbsp;her two previous albums which were written during the pandemic, the latter of which won Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys.

In 'Midnights',&nbsp;which includes the smooth vocals of Lana Del Rey in the duet 'Snow on the Beach',&nbsp;Swift evokes a certain dreamy mystique, complete with nighttime ruminations -- her reflections on growing older and the complications of love.

For the most part the midnight album has bewitched critics.

It was warmly received by The Guardian which called it a "cool, collected and mature" compendium, "packed with fantastic songs."

One caveat, however, has been its lack of a catchy title song: "It's hard to spot anything that sounds like a smash hit on Swift's third muted collection in a row," The Independent newspaper lamented.

True to Swift form, the songstress had a surprise up her sleeves for her loyal fans.

She released an extended 20-song version at 3:00 am on the East Coast titled 'Midnights (3am Edition)'.
The seven extra ballads, she said, were "songs we wrote on our journey to find that magic 13."
