The upcoming musical, about young love and the tension between rival gangs, is in production.&nbsp; 
 
Elgort stars as Tony and Zegler as Maria, the star-crossed lovers, alongside a host of other cast members in the first picture. 
 
Apart from Elgort and Zegler, the first look photo also reveals the other official cast members of the film including the Jets members. 
 
Interestingly, the female lead Zegler is a high school theatre kid whose viral performance of Lady Gaga`s `Shallow` caught Spielberg`s attention after which she scored the role in the film.

The upcoming film is a remake of the Oscar-winning 1961 musical about rival gangs in the streets of 1950s New York, reported The Hollywood Reporter. 
 
The much-awaited movie tells the story of Tony, a one-time member of the Jets, who falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks leader, Bernardo. Their love has deadly consequences. 
 
Spielberg is adapting the original Broadway musical, which was inspired by Shakespeare`s `Romeo and Juliet`.&nbsp; 
 
Spielberg is directing as well as producing the film with a script by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Tony Kushner. 
 
Tony-winner Justin Peck will choreograph the musical numbers in the film. The film`s music team includes Gustavo Dudamel, who will conduct the recording of Bernstein`s iconic score, reported Variety.

According to Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, the users will only be able to see the show when their phone knows it is dark outside.

In an appearance at the Banff World Media Festival, Katzenberg revealed that his former DreamWorks Animation partner Spielberg is writing a horror series.

"Steven Spielberg has a super scary story. He's actually writing it himself. Getting him to write something is fantastic," Katzenberg said.&nbsp;

The iconic filmmaker has already written "five or six episodes of a 10- or 12-chapter story", he added.

Spielberg wanted viewers to only be able to watch the programme after midnight and to meet the requirement, Katzenberg said Quibi challenged their engineers to come up with an idea to view the show at the spookiest time.&nbsp;

A clock will appear on the phones, ticking down until the sunset, wherever the user is until it is completely gone. Then the clock starts ticking again to when the sun comes back up and the show will disappear until the next night, reported Deadline.

Besides Spielberg, the talents that have already been tapped in to produce for Quibi or star in its projects include Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Catherine Hardwick, Anna Kendrick, Doug Liman, Laurence Fishburne and Antoine Fuqua.

This comes in response to ‘Roma’ winning big awards this Oscars even though it is a Netflix film directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron. The film got three big awards -- Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Foreign Language Film. It was just short of Best Picture as ‘Green Book’ took the award home.&nbsp;

Netflix has responded to this by making an indirect response to&nbsp;Spielberg’s crusade to block Netflix as a future contender during the Oscars. They tweeted:&nbsp;“We love cinema," and added, "Here are some things we also love:

Former India cricketer-turned actor S Sreesanth may have expressed his desire to work with noted Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg, but it has led to a tirade of jokes at the actor's expense. Unfazed by the mockery he has been facing, Sreesanth has stated that despite all the guffaws and jokes he still does wish to work with Spielberg in the future.

Sreesanth, in an interview to a news agency said people had also mocked him in the past when he was aspiring to play for the Indian cricket team when he was in the Kerala Under-19 squad.

"I did say I want to work with Steven Spielberg. Yes, because my dreams are... If you ask my friends, they would tell you that when I was in Under-19, if someone asked me what I want to do, I had said, `I want to play for the country`... and they would have laughed," the former India pacer said.

"I already did two Bollywood movies, I did Southern movies, and I would love to work in Hollywood," he said.

The banned cricketer, who is looking to acting as a career, also said he would be enrolling at the well-known New York Film Academy to fulfill his Hollywood goal, adding he looked forward to acting gigs on English-language series on Netflix or Amazon.

"I would love to work with him (Spielberg). I would love to start in some English series on Netflix or Amazon or wherever. But I will go to the New York Film Academy to help improve my acting skills," Sreesanth said.

The cricketer-turned-actor also said in 2019, he had his hands full as far as his acting career is concerned.

"My movie `Cabaret` has released and is doing extremely well. My Kannada, Tamil, Telugu film, `Kempegowda-2`, is releasing in March first week. If the deal is finalised, the 36-year-old British actor will play Tom Hayden, the co-founder of the Students for a Democratic Society, who was best known for his role as an anti-war, civil rights, and radical intellectual activist in the 1960s, reported Variety. 
 
Earlier, actor Sacha Baron Cohen was in talks to star in the film. 
 
The 47-year-old actor is being eyed for the role of Abbie Hoffman, the anarchic co-founder of the Youth International Party, who came to be known as Yippies. 
 
Sorkin has penned the screenplay. Earlier, veteran director Steven Spielberg was planning to helm but a writers' strike forced him to delay the film. 
 
After the success of his directorial debut 'Molly's Game', Sorkin officially assumed the directing duties of the new film.
