The media reports citing officials said that the fishing vessel named Devon 5 had left with six crew members from Tangalle on June 4. According to the Sri Lanka Navy, the fishermen drank the liquid from the bottles they found thinking that it contained alcohol.&nbsp;

The two fishermen who are critically ill have reportedly been taken aboard a Singaporean merchant vessel and are receiving emergency treatment, said a navy spokesperson as per national news station Ada Derana.&nbsp;

Director General of the Sri Lankan Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Susantha Kahawatte said that they are working to bring the duo back to the shore.&nbsp;

However, officials have reportedly expressed concerns that there isn’t enough time to bring them back to land for treatment.&nbsp;

Kahawatte also told the national news station that the fishermen in question had found several bottles floating in the sea and even distributed some bottles to nearby fishing trawlers. He said that they are trying to contact the other boats as well.&nbsp;

He said, "We are looking at developing the Palk Strait for wind energy and solar energy, both countries to get together and have a large farm for solar energy, for renewable energy. It also means that we will have a new economy for the northern province, which was worst affected by the wars."

The President pointed out that India and Sri Lanka discussing ways to expedite the Trincomalee Development Project. "Trincomalee is poised to become a hub for oil refining, with the development of ports &amp; investment zones, transforming it into a significant hub on the Bay of Bengal", he further stated.&nbsp;

Plans are underway to construct a multi-product oil pipeline from Nagapattinam to Trincomalee, pending the final observation report. Plans are underway for the Indian role in expanding the Kankesanturai port, which is the major port on the Jaffna Peninsula &amp; development of the Palali airport.

"When I was in Delhi last week, I discussed with Prime Minister Modi the need to accelerate the joint program that we have decided, agreed on. So the major ones are identified... Now this will show the new path we are taking, and a number of projects, all will be in one parcel.", he explained.

"With an international environment defaced by conflict and division, it is timely to contemplate on the Buddha’s doctrine," she asserted. Drawing upon the principles of non-violence and compassion, she emphasised the potential of these teachings to foster reconciliation in a fractured world.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 54/115 that saw international recognition of Vesak. "The invaluable co-sponsorship of this Resolution by the countries you represent is much appreciated" she acknowledged, highlighting the collective effort to bring the significance of Vesak to the global stage. India had supported this resolution.
