Amid the growing concern about the negative implications of smartphones, a study conducted by vivo in collaboration with CyberMedia Research (CMR) has highlighted that in India, more children are concerned about the excessive usage of smartphones than parents.&nbsp;

The sixth edition of its Switch Off research study, titled ‘Impact of Smartphones on Parent-Child Relationships’, has revealed how unregulated smartphone usage can damage family bonds between children and their parents.

The study revealed that 76 per cent of children with their parents switched off their smartphones to have a deeper connection and spend meaningful time together.

While both children and parents long for a better family relationship, they are unwilling to limit their smartphone habits. The study found that on average, parents spend over five hours on their smartphones every day, while children spend a little less time over four hours.&nbsp;

As per the survey, which was conducted in eight Indian cities, 73 per cent of parents and 69 per cent of children believe smartphone usage is a source of dispute between them.

When asked to design a phone for their parents, nearly 94 per cent of the children said it should include features like calling, camera, and messaging, leaving out games, social media, and entertainment apps, which their parents spend most of their time on.

While both groups recognise the negative impact of excessive usage of smartphones, children seem aware of the harmful effects. The survey suggests that 75 per cent of parents are worried about forming a meaningful relationship with their children but fail to notice how their own smartphone usage is also affecting their bond with kids.

The corporation was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former officer in the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The company was initially focused on manufacturing phone switches. Huawei has since expanded to more than 170 countries to include building telecommunications networks, providing operational and consulting services and equipment, and manufacturing communications devices for the consumer market.

Further, it overtook Ericsson in 2012 as the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world. Huawei surpassed Apple and Samsung, in 2018 and 2020, respectively, to become the largest smartphone manufacturer worldwide, according to reports. Yu Chengdong, an Executive Director at Huawei, stated that the Mate XT's screen measures 10.2 inches (25.908 centimeters), and the phone is 3.6 millimeters thick when unfolded, making it the largest and thinnest folding screen phone on the market. To achieve this design, the Mate XT features a high-capacity battery constructed with the thinnest silicon anode material available globally, achieving a remarkable 1.9-millimeter thickness for each cell.

What's more, the screen's aspect ratio is 16:11, that is close to that of a laptop screen, significantly reducing letterboxing when playing a standard 16:9 widescreen video compared to the almost-square screens seen on most mainstream foldable phones.

"In terms of software compatibility, Huawei is already the best in the folding phone market. The battery has seen considerable improvement in both capacity and size due to the use of silicon carbide anode, still attention must be paid to power consumption and heat issues," said Guo Tianxiang, a research manager at IDC China in his conversation with CGTN. 

The Mate XT offers a versatile design with single, dual and triple-screen modes, allowing for flexible transitions between different forms. Yu noted that Huawei has dedicated five years to pioneering its innovative hinge mechanism, which revolutionizes traditional designs, enabling both inward and outward folding.

Despite these advancements, some technical flaws of folding phones persist. According to market analysts that crease on the screen cover remain unresolved, and a 10-inch screen could seriously affect battery life. Cox Media Group (CMG) privately admitted to the long-held suspicions of smartphone users during a pitch deck to investors. The&nbsp;firm stated that its&nbsp;“Active Listening” software uses AI to&nbsp;“capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations", according to a report in 404 Media.

"Advertisers can pair this voice data with behavioural data to target in-market consumers," CMG said in the pitch deck.&nbsp;

"Consumers leave a data trail based on their conversations and online behaviour and the AI-powered software collects and analyses behavioural and voice data from 470+ sources,"&nbsp;it added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Meta, the parent company of Facebook said it was reviewing CMG to assess whether it violated any of its terms of service.

“It is legal for phones and devices to listen to you. When a new app download or update prompts consumers with a multi-page term of use agreement somewhere in the fine print, Active Listening is often included.”
