A day after the veteran batting pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli confirmed their plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also brought Ravindra Jadeja’s name into the conversation, saying that the ace all-rounder remains ‘in the mix’ for the showpiece event in Africa 2027. Yashasvi Jaiswal has to wait for his turn in the ODI team, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak suggested on the eve of the series opener against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (Sep 27). With One-Day captain Shubman Gill ‘good to go’ after being hit on the elbow several times during the nets on Saturday (Sep 26), Jaiswal’s chances of making a return to 50-over cricket are down to zero. IND vs SL 2026: Warm-up game helped India more than days of conventional training could, says Kotak

India men's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has indicated that both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are likely to be available for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, which begins on Saturday (Jun 13) in Dharamsala. Although both players were included in the squad, the BCCI clarified that their participation remains dependent on receiving fitness clearance from its medical team.&nbsp;Rohit was sidelined for a few matches during IPL 2026 because of a hamstring issue, while Hardik missed games for Mumbai Indians due to back spasms and illness.&nbsp;&nbsp; Both players joined the squad before the end of the season, with Rohit even declared fully fit by team management. However, uncertainty still remains and the BCCI is reportedly waiting for their assessment at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru before making a final call.&nbsp;Speaking in New Chandigarh after India's convincing victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test, Kotak said that he had heard positive reports regarding both the players. T20 World Cup 2026: Sanju Samson back for Zimbabwe clash? Here's what batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has asked the batter to be more adapt to team needs as per the situation while trying to maintain the attacking style. Kotak's comments came on the eve of India's last group-stage match in T20 World Cup 2026. India play Netherlands in their last Group A match on Wednesday (Feb 18). Kotak made the suggestion while addressing Abhishek Sharma's two back-to-back ducks in the tournament so far. While Kotak asserted that the team is not worried about Abhishek's twin failures, they would want him firing before the Super 8 fixtures with Netherlands match offering perfect opportunity to do so.<h2>Kotak wants Indian players to adapt to what team needs</h2>"I think playing aggressive cricket is important. But I don't think plans change based on whether a player has failed or not," Kotak said at the pre-match press conference. "If anything, plans will change according to situations. No matter whether somebody has scored runs for two innings or somebody hasn't, it's important to adapt to what the team needs. Also Read - <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/big-bash-league-set-for-india-debut-in-chennai-cricket-australia-exploring-move-report-1771337677785">BBL set for India debut in Chennai? India would prefer to have Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI for the fifth Test but not a half-fit, for a must-win game. Bumrah appeared exhausted out in Manchester, and despite Gautam Gambhir insisting that all his bowlers are fit, Bumrah's availability is questionable. &nbsp;India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak echoed Gambhir's sentiments and said that Bumrah is fit, but did not provide any confirmation if the ace pacer will play the Oval Test. "Bumrah is fit now according to his load. He has bowled one inning in the last match. So that obviously head coach, our physio and captain, they will have a discussion and decide. There has been no discussion," Kotak was quoted by news agency PTI.&nbsp;Mohammed Siraj has featured in all four Tests, and there are worries over his workload. Kotak offered a clear explanation regarding Siraj's workload management and said that his bowling workload is very heavy, but it's within his capacity. “So, I don't know what you guys think about the actual workload. So, if I tell you quickly, before the Test series, if a bowler puts in a certain amount of overs per week, that if he's preparing for T20 and putting in 20 overs, 25 overs, 6 overs every day, or putting in 6 overs for five days, that is good enough workload for T20.” &nbsp;"They have a GPS. It shows the record of how many overs the bowler has put in throughout the week. And they're in constant touch with the bowling coach. So, the build-up of the last 4–5 weeks, you need to determine if there's no spike in it. “So, what's the spike? If a bowler is putting in 30 overs per week, and suddenly, in the first innings, he's put in 35 overs, then that's the spike in his load. So, the number of overs that Siraj is putting in every week, it's not necessary that it's due to practice.” &nbsp;"That load is also because of the match. So, then, one thing depends on whether Siraj himself, or the physios, or his body feels that no, I am tired. Then, they will ponder over the load. Otherwise, his bowling load is very high, is very good. So, there is a zero chance of a spike in it," added Kotak.

Is Trump reining in Musk, finally? US President Donald Trump on Thursday (March 6) addressed mounting criticism over sweeping government cuts led by billionaire advisor Elon Musk, stressing that staff cuts should be carefully targeted.
In what could be seen as the first move to rein in the seemingly unlimited power accorded to Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump on Truth Social wrote: "We say the 'scalpel' rather than the 'hatchet'," while emphasising that department heads&mdash;not Musk&mdash;would ultimately control personnel decisions.

<h2>Trump-Musk at odds?</h2>
No, Trump and Musk are not at odds, if one goes by the tone of his Truth Social post.
At the outset, the US president supported DOGE and its chief. According to a recent AP report, Musk in private talks told lawmakers this week that the firings of thousands of federal workers, including veterans, are the responsibility of individual agencies, not him.

"DOGE has been an incredible success, and now that we have my Cabinet in place, I have instructed the Secretaries and Leadership to work with DOGE on Cost-Cutting measures and Staffing. As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go," said Trump.

According to Politico, Trump also conveyed directly to his cabinet, with Musk in attendance, that while the DOGE chief can make recommendations, the ultimate authority lies with his officials.
<h2>Federal workforce in turmoil</h2>
As part of the administration&rsquo;s effort to streamline government operations, tens of thousands of federal workers have already been dismissed or face termination. Millions of employees received directives from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Musk, demanding justification for their roles in bullet-pointed memos&mdash;or risk losing their jobs.

Meanwhile, Musk, facing a backlash from within his task force, admitted to missteps during a meeting with Republicans on Wednesday (March 5).
According to Politico, nearly a third of DOGE's staffers resigned by February, citing concerns that the drastic measures endangered national stability.
"We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations," 21 DOGE members wrote in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, reported the AFP news agency. "However, it has become clear that we can no longer honour those commitments," they wrote.
