Church’s deacon Clarence McCallister was recorded leaping across and handling Polite. He as well as the pastor tried to snatch the gun from the assailant and pinned him down on the floor till the police reached. Reacting over the incident, McCallister said, “God had his hands on the pastor. He wasn’t letting him go nowhere.” Suspect claims 'spirits' asked him to open fire Germany said that later the suspect in police custody revealed to him that he had seen “spirits", who had asked him to open fire. “He said, ‘The spirits were in my mind. They got in my mind and told me to shoot the pastor’. He actually apologised to me. I told him that ‘I forgive you and want you to know I love you,’ but yes, I definitely forgave him," Germany said. In another interview with WTAE, the pastor said that the gunman told him, “‘You ducked a taco today. That’s what he told me, and I guess that’s slang for ‘You ducked a bullet.'” Polite is facing multiple charges which include aggravated assault and attempted homicide. At least five suspects have been arrested in connection with Wednesday's shooting in Philadelphia. As for the police, three people were shot and injured after rival groups engaged in cross-firing. The incident took place at a Muslim Gathering amid Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

Philadelphia shooting: At least three injured in shooting at an Eid gathering of Muslims

Three people were injured in a shootout which took place between rival groups near the celebration which marked the end of Ramadan, said the police in Philadelphia.

There was no indication from the police if the event itself, which was a celebration of the culmination of the Muslim holy month, was a target of the shooting.

"We are very, very fortunate today that we did not have more individuals shot and anyone killed," said Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, while speaking to the reporters.

Bethel added that it was mid-afternoon when more than 1,000 people were in the park to celebrate Eid al-Fitr when the shooting took place. Nearly 30 gunshots rang out, he added.

"What we do know is there appear to be two factions within the park, who are now exchanging gunfire," said Bethel.

No casualties reported, three injured

According to the police, three people suffered injuries including an adult, who was hit by the bullet during the exchange of gunfire and also an armed 15-year-old suspect, who was shot by the police.

The suspect was hit in the arm and leg. Bethel said that he was admitted to a hospital and is in stable condition.

He further emphasised that a third person had also reached a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound in his hand, although it was not clear if he had received the wound in the firing.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said that they had arrested five "young people actively engaged in gunfire" near the Eid al-Fitr celebration in the case, which included the teen, and also recovered five guns. He added that no one was killed in the shooting.

At least 93 killed in 'terrorist attack' at concert hall near Moscow

The United States claimed that they had warned the Russian authorities about the possibility of a terror attack targeting "large gatherings" in Moscow, earlier this month.

The statement was given by the White House hours after at least 93 people were killed outside the Russian capital in a mass shooting.

Watson added that US President Joe Biden's administration had complied with a long-standing "duty to warn" policy in which the nations or groups were alerted by the United States after it received intelligence reports regarding threats to either kill or kidnap multiple victims.

In a strange coincidence, just before March 7, a warning was issued by the US Embassy informing Americans to not go to concert venues.

Six Sri Lankans found dead inside two-storey house in Canada's Ottawa

A US man who fatally shot a 20-year-old woman last year for mistakenly driving an SUV up his driveway was handed over 25 years in jail on Friday (Mar 1). Kevin Monahan shot Kaylin Gillis in the neck as she and her friends were turning back after realising their mistake. The group in the car was hunting for a party address before the deadly incident happened. Monahan later had said in his defence that he thought his property was under siege by intruders and he acted in self-defence.

Prosecutors claimed he “acted out of anger” and demanded a sentence of 25 years - the maximum. The court in January found the 66-year-old guilty of second-degree murder.

"I think it's important for people to know that it's not OK to shoot people and have them killed for turning down your driveway," Judge Adam Michelini reportedly said.

Monahan ‘had become agitated’

A neighbour of Monahan was later quoted as saying in media reports that he had become more agitated by people making wrong turns up his driveway, which was long and curvy.

Friends of Kaylin Gillis said the private property sign by the driveway was not clearly visible, leading them to the wrong way. As they were turning back, Monahan emerged on the porch and fired two shots at the SUV driven by Gillis’s boyfriend. The second shot hit Gillis in the neck, killing her.

The boyfriend later told Monahan that he "will never be able to forgive" him.

The incident happened on a Saturday night in the small town of Hebron, about 55 miles (88km) northeast of Albany.

Arguments by Monahan’s lawyers

Monahan’s lawyers had claimed that the fatal shot was fired accidentally by a defective shotgun when he tripped on his porch and dropped it, an argument dismissed by the court.

The court found Monahan guilty of murder in addition to reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.

China has been producing robotic dogs capable of shooting at a mass scale.

These dogs, which are four-legged machines, are being used as novelty electronic pets or to carry out mundane tasks like carrying a discus for a track and field athlete.

The Chinese military has shared footage through state media which showed some of these dogs as being armed and placed among live military exercises.

However, critics have dismissed the video as propaganda, while stating that the build of these robots will make them ill-suited to tackle the recoil of standard firearms, and it will also be impossible to fire with a trained soldier's speed and precision.

Robotic dogs to revolutionise future warfare?

However, others have acknowledged the potential of this new technology, stating that it can revolutionise future warfare.

Several units of the robotic dogs were bought by the US Marine Corps to evaluate the Chinese-made robotic dogs' combat effectiveness last year.

And although the results of the evaluation conducted were not made public, a study conducted by Chinese scientists said that these robotic dogs are likely to outshoot even seasoned troops, in terms of handling firearms.

The study “demonstrates the feasibility of a legged strike platform”, wrote lead scientist Xu Cheng and his team, in a peer-reviewed paper which was published in the Chinese Journal of Engineering.

According to the research done by the Chinese team, the US military may not be able to use these dogs in the best way on the battlefield.

Xu has been working as a professor of mechanical engineering at the Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He is also the Chinese Light Weapons Society's vice-president.

For long, the university has been sanctioned by the United States because of its close ties with the Chinese military.

As part of the study, the team of Xu placed a 7.62mm machine gun on a robotic dog. The gun, which was used, was capable of firing 750 rounds per minute, even though the model's specifications were not mentioned.

The weapon also had a shock-absorbing mount, automatic reloading system and optoelectronic sight.

Then, the robotic dog fired 10-round bursts at a human-sized target, which was standing at a distance of 100 metres (328 feet).

If the target was a person's chest, most of the bullets would have hit the heart and the regions close to it.

"Today's events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting," said Biden, in a White House statement. “It is time to act. That’s where I stand. And I ask the country to stand with me. To make your voice heard in Congress so we finally act to ban assault weapons, to limit high-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks, keep guns out of the hands of those who have no business owning them or handling them,” said Biden, in a statement released by the White House.
