<p>Speaking about the season, the former India Captain said, "It's been great to work with the boys and I am looking forward to the season starting. Net practice is good, but we want to get into match mode. And Ricky has been fantastic. He brings a lot of intensity during training."</p>

Former Indian skipper and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Saturday has undergone angioplasty and is stable now, experts in the medical team said. Ganguly was admitted to a Kolkata hospital this afternoon after complaints of chest pain.

<p>The German Bundesliga opened last month, Liverpool has already won the English Premier League even as Europe battles the virus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ‘reopening’ of sports lifts spirits, after all at least till April the European continent was the hardest hit with the deadly virus- but when a person watches Ronaldo, Messi or Klopp on the field it gives them one thing which we all crave for in these difficult times- hope.</p>

<p>In India, as the virus continues to make inroads it has pegged us back on several fronts. The county’s morale is low and uncertainty prevails. This is the time to fall back on that thing we call hope and what better way if Sourav’s BCCI and Virat’s Team India decide to hold a fun match- not IPL - to lift a nation down in spirits.</p>

<p>All we want is our “entertainers” to put their hands up and be counted because once this is all over we will remember who stood up for us and&nbsp;those who stayed home. India needs true heroes and not paper tigers but the big question is: are the big boys of Indian cricket ready to bat for the country?</p>

<p>It is not as if Indian cricketers earlier haven't set a precedent. The great Sachin Tendulkar had dedicated his ton in the Chennai Test to the country after the horrific Mumbai attack in 2008 - the true Mumbaikar cried for his city. Indian cricketers back in the 80s had played a cricket match for drought relief, then there are of course innumerable examples of individual "care and giving" by our role models.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, this time it is different. The pandemic has hit us hard with nowhere to run, most of all it has taken us by surprise like most nations and it has meant we have had to give up all the things we love for better days ahead but the heart yearns for the "good, old days" when all was great - we could watch our idols on television or walk down to the stadium to see them in the flesh that day will be back but India like the rest of the world will count the cost of loss, destruction and countless stories of valour and greatness of our COVID-19 warriors.</p>

<p>We want our cricketers to also be in that "elite list" not of moneymakers, A-listers and highest taxpayers but of those who showed us the way in a year of gloom. We want them to be corona warriors feted by the country and looked upon as true idols.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We just want one match to feel “normal”, &nbsp;will Sourav and Virat hear our call?</p>

<p>Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Ethics Officer&nbsp;has sent a notice to former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid after Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) member Sanjeev Gupta levelled conflict of interest allegations against the cricketer.</p>

BCCI sends conflict of interest notice to Rahul Dravid; Saurav Ganguly says 'God help Indian cricket'

<p>Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly picked Pakistan alongside India, Australia and England as the four semifinalists in the upcoming World Cup, saying their records in world tournaments in England is remarkable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>England has been a 'lucky' venue for Pakistan, who had won the 2017 Champions Trophy beating India and had also bagged their maiden World Twenty20 title in 2009.</p>

<p>"Pakistan's record in world tournaments in England is remarkable. They won the Champions Trophy two years ago, they won the 2009 World T20 in England", the former captain added.</p>

<p>He also cited the recent example of Pakistan's second ODI against England, in which they almost chased down a mammoth 374 before going down by only 12 runs.</p>

<p>"Pakistan always play well in England. You see the last game in England. England got 374 and Pakistan just lost by 12 runs. They also beat England in England in Test matches there because of their bowling lineup", Ganguly said.</p>

<p>Ganguly, however, was quick to add that Virat Kohli's men should not be wary of Pakistan and they would prove to be strong contenders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I don't believe in records. Both of them will have to play well on that particular day. India will be a very good side. They will be very hard to beat. A team which has the likes of Kohli, Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan can't be weak", Ganguly said.</p>

<p>Asked to compare this team with that of his team of 2003 that lost to Australia in the final, Ganguly said, "Both the teams are of different generations. We played the final in 2003. I hope they play the final and win it.''</p>

<p>"Indian cricket is so strong. And we have been strong for the last 25-30 years. Every world competition that we play, we will have a chance. This team has as much chance as we had in 2003", he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Starting as one of the favourites, India would be under tremendous pressure but Ganguly felt it would bring out the best from Kohli and Co.</p>

<p>"So it's good that India is under pressure, every other team in the World Cup will be under pressure. You don't want to turn up like a Nepal or an Ireland where the entire world thinks that you're not going to win'', the former captain said.</p>

<p>"You rather turn up like an India or an Australia or an England where everybody says this team is going to win the World Cup. So Virat, probably being the best player of the world at the moment, is as much under pressure as anybody else and that will be good for him because he will turn up, work hard, he will be pumped and get India going", Ganguly added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ganguly said it would be an interesting World Cup as all 10 teams will play each other before the best four qualify for the knockouts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This team has as much as an opportunity. It's a great World Cup because all 10 teams play against each other and the best four qualify. There are strong teams and you realise England, Pakistan, West Indies all can win'', Ganguly said.</p>

<p>Imagine, Rs 5 lakh is the amount they could all offer from the Benevolent Fund to a person who has played wearing the blue jersey, aiming to bring laurels to his country. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, its easy to presume the life of the former domestic cricketers, who couldn't make it this big.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Supreme Court-appointed CoA chief, Vinod Rai, has a habit of issuing directives on a range of issues but preferred to stay tight-lipped. Couldn't he issue a directive to the concerned professional appointees of the Board to release a special amount for the 46-year-old Martin? But silence says it all.</p>

<p>And therefore to all unsung heroes, we are 'unreservedly' sorry because our board members are busy fighting over the reins of the board with the Supreme Court-appointed committee rather than strategising a way to improve the players' condition in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per reports, the bill has crossed over Rs 11 lakh. Martin is still on ventilator support and the next hours are crucial.</p>

<p>Sourav Ganguly, who was the captain when Martin made his debut, went beyond mere words and effected a bank transfer in Martin’s favour.</p>

<p>He also spoke to Khayati, wife of the ailing Jacob Martin, and assured complete support.</p>

<p>Cricketer Krunal Pandya, elder brother of Hardik Pandya, left a blank cheque with Sanjay Patel, former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Baroda Cricket Association, to help his ailing senior.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former pacer Zaheer Khan made another call to Patel, repeating his wish to assist in whatever manner he can, while Ashish Nehra too has joined the drive to help Martin quickly get back on his feet.</p>
