A minor complainant was logged against Brij Bhushan as the petitioners placed material alleging danger to her safety. The SC then directed the Commissioner of Police to assess the threat perception of a minor complainant and look deeply into the matter. The SC has also asked the Commissioner of Police, Delhi to look into the matters, leaving it open to assess threat perception against six other wrestlers. The latest allegations were made on April 21 which has seen the WFI chief in more trouble.

"We were worried on two grounds - security and safety and the second is there are 40 cases against him," Kapil Sibal appearing for the petitioner said.

The SC had earlier stated that it would hear the plea made by the seven wrestlers after the latest round of protest began at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi. After the fresh protests, the BJP MP released a video saying he would wish to embrace death the day he feels helpless.

He added this being a sensitive issue, it must be dealt fairly, and justice needs to be brought to the table.

Replying to her, Malik said, “I respect PT Usha. She has inspired us. But I want to ask ma’am, women wrestlers have come forward, raised the issue of harassment. Can’t we protest as well?”

“In the IOA committee, we gave our statements. IOA committee members cried as well. They had assured action will be taken. No action has been taken,” she added.

These wrestlers even approached the police and asked them to lodge the FIR against the alleged Brij Bhushan, but the police denied filing an FIR despite repeated requests.&nbsp;

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha said on Thursday that the wrestlers should have approached the IOA earlier instead of going out in the streets against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, who the wrestlers accused of sexual harassment and mismanagement of athletes.

"Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is having a committee for sexual harassment, instead of going to the streets they (protesting wrestlers) could have come to us earlier but they did not come to IOA. It is not good for sports not only for wrestlers, they should also have some discipline," said Usha to the media. Ace Indian grapplers such as Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and many other wrestlers are involved in the protest against the WFI chief.

Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra supported the wrestlers in their protest with a poignant tweet on Wednesday.

"As athletes, we train hard every day to represent our country on the international stage. It is deeply concerning to see our athletes finding it necessary to protest on the streets regarding the allegations of harassment in the Indian wrestling administration," Bindra tweeted.

"My heart goes out to all those who have been affected. We must ensure that this issue is handled properly, with the athletes' concerns heard and addressed fairly and independently. Delhi Police apprised the court that the police felt that there were some issues that needed preliminary inquiry. However, Delhi Police clarified that it has no hesitation to lodge FIR immediately if the court orders.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that the matter is scheduled to be heard on Friday and the bench will look at the entire material. This committee will be functioning for an interim period till a new Executive Committee takes charge.

After a protest led by some prominent wrestlers of the country started this January, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had announced the formation of an 'oversight committee' to probe allegations levelled against the WFI and its chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and other coaches.

The committee was tasked with submitting a report on the issue to the ministry.&nbsp;

Later, when wrestlers approached the police to lodge an FIR against the accused, the police denied doing it and also leaked the names of those who came forward for this.

“I have been trying to talk to the federation and make them understand my issues and those of other wrestlers for nearly 10 years. But nobody is even ready to listen," she added.&nbsp;

The women wrestlers received support from their male counterparts. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia said he and his fellow wrestlers will not compete internationally if Bhushan is not removed.&nbsp;

"We will not compete in any international competition until WFI President is removed."

Many Indian women competitors have welcomed the dark blue blazer and trousers that the Indian Olympic Association said was introduced at the request of the country&#39;s athletes&#39; commission.

But female stars like badminton ace PV Sindhu and&nbsp;wrestler Sakshi Malik, both Olympic medalists, prefer the&nbsp;time-honoured sari, a flowing dress draped over the body.

Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik, Geeta Phogat secure gold at Commonwealth Wrestling Championship

The Indian government will confer the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award? on PV Sindhu, Dipa Karmakar, Jitu Rai and Sakshi Malik. 
 
Fifteen other sportspersons, including Ajinkya Rahane, Lalita Babar, Shiva Thapa and Apurvi Chandela, will be given the Arjuna Award. 
 
The government had announced earlier this year that athletes who win at the Olympics would automatically&nbsp;qualify for the honour. 
 
With Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the four atheletes will join the league of sporting giants like Sachin Tendulkar (cricket), Leander Paes (lawn tennis) and Viswanathan Anand (chess). 
 
Sakshi Malik, 23, was the first Indian woman to clinch an Olympic bronze in wrestling, and the first athlete to win a medal for the Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics. 
 
World Championships bronze-medallist Shiva Thapa was the only boxer recommended for this year&#39;s Arjuna&nbsp;award, the country&#39;s second highest sporting honour, by the selection committee headed by Justice (Retd) S&nbsp;K Agarwal and comprising cricketer Gautam Gambhir and shooter Anjali Bhagwat among others. 
 
The 22-year-old, who lost in the opening round of the ongoing Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, has been&nbsp;picked for his fineperformances in the past four years, which included two Asian Championships medals (a&nbsp;gold in 2013 and a bronze in 2015), besides the World Championships bronze.

India's Olympic medal winners to be conferred with Khel Ratna, 15 others to get Arjuna award

Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won India&#39;s first medal in the Rio Olympics, was today announced as the country&#39;s flagbearer at the Summer Games closing ceremony. 
 
The announcement came after India&#39;s last medal hope Yogeshwar Dutt lost 0-3 to Ganzorig Mandakhnaran in the qualifying of the 65kg freestyle wrestling.

PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik among most searched on Google's list of Indian athletes

Rohtak district today erupted in joy and celebrations after local girl Sakshi Malik made India&#39;s northern Haryana state and the country proud by winning a Bronze medal in wrestling at the Rio Olympics. 
 
People from all walks of life including ministers, politicians, Sports Authority of India officials made a beeline to Sakshi&#39;s house at Mokhra village in Rohtak district to congratulate the family for clinching a medal in the 58 kg category in the Olympics. 
 
&quot;I have been receiving so many calls on my mobile phones for congratulatory messages ever since my daughter won the medal at Rio Olympic games,&quot; said Sudesh Malik, mother of Sakshi as the family was busy in distributing sweets to everyone who came to congratulate the wrestler&#39;s family. 
 
Sudesh, who has not slept for more than 20 hours till today morning, along with her husband and other family members were glued to the television to watch Sakshi&#39;s bout and they all erupted in joy when she won the match. 
 
All the family members could be seen hugging each other over the historic feat achieved by Sakshi. 
 
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar called up Sakshi&#39;s father Sukhbir Malik to congratulate the family for their daughter&#39;s historic feat. 
 
Haryana state minister Manish Grover personally visited Sakshi&#39;s house and presented a &#39;Gada&#39; and sweet box to the family. 
 
A large number of media people flocked to the wrestler&#39;s house to interview the family as the 23-year-old Rohtak girl scripted history by winning a Bronze medal - the first by an Indian woman wrestler.

In his message, the Governor said that the whole country was proud of Sakshi for this achievement. &quot;On this auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Sakshi has brought laurels to the country by bagging bronze in the 58-kg category of Women&#39;s Freestyle Wrestling,&quot; he said. 
 
Khattar said, &quot;Sakshi Malik has done Haryana and the country proud by opening India&#39;s account in the medals tally in the Olympics at Rio in Brazil. I congratulate her and members of her family on her achievement. The way she came from behind to win Bronze at Rio shows her class, grit and determination.&quot;&nbsp; 
 
Sports minister Anil Vij, who is leading a delegation at Rio Olympic Games, said international wrestler Sakshi has made the state and country proud by winning the country its first medal at Rio. 
 
Vij also extended good wishes to Sakshi and her family members on behalf of the people of the state and country. 
 
Vij in a release said that the state government would honour Sakshi with cash award of Rupees 2.5 crore as per its sports policy. He hoped that the other sportspersons of the state would also prove their mettle in coming events by winning medals. 
 
Before this historical event, Vij also met all athletes from the state and encouraged them to bring laurels to the state and the country by delivering sterling performances in their respective games. 
 
As a result of this, Haryana has bagged the first medal for the country in the Olympics, the release said.

Rohtak district today erupted in joy and celebrations after local girl Sakshi Malik made India's northern Haryana state and the country proud by winning a Bronze medal in wrestling at the Rio Olympics. People from all walks of life including ministers, politicians, Sports Authority of India officials made a beeline to Sakshi's house at Mokhra village in Rohtak district to congratulate the family for clinching a medal in the 58 kg category in the Olympics. "I have been receiving so many calls on my mobile phones for congratulatory messages ever since my daughter won the medal at Rio Olympic games," said Sudesh Malik, mother of Sakshi as the family was busy in distributing sweets to everyone who came to congratulate the wrestler's family. Sudesh, who has not slept for more than 20 hours till today morning, along with her husband and other family members were glued to the television to watch Sakshi's bout and they all erupted in joy when she won the match. All the family members could be seen hugging each other over the historic feat achieved by Sakshi. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar called up Sakshi's father Sukhbir Malik to congratulate the family for their daughter's historic feat. Haryana state minister Manish Grover personally visited Sakshi's house and presented a 'Gada' and sweet box to the family. A large number of media people flocked to the wrestler's house to interview the family as the 23-year-old Rohtak girl scripted history by winning a Bronze medal - the first by an Indian woman wrestler.
