<p>Recently, the wrestlers returned to Jantar Mantar and resumed their protest after revealing that the Delhi Police have refused to file an FIR against WFI chief. It is to be noted that as many as seven female wrestlers, including a minor, complained against him of sexual harassment.</p>

<p>The wrestlers have slept and trained at the protest site over the last four days. It does not seem like the protest will end anytime soon as their demands have not been met so far and there has not been any response from Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, despite the wrestlers' request.</p>

<p>After prominent Indian wrestlers sat on a protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and levelled allegations of sexual harassment and corruption in the body, the Union Sports Ministry of India took a serious note of the charges following which the Sports Authority of India (SAI) issued an official statement on Wednesday demanding&nbsp;an explanation from the WFI on all charges within the next 72 hours.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Taking cognisance of the protest staged by wrestlers, including Olympic and CWG medalists, in Delhi today and a press conference in which wrestlers have levelled serious charges of sexual harassment of women wrestlers by the President and coaches of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and of mismanagement in the functioning of the federation, the Sports Ministry has sought an explanation from WFI on the allegations and directed it to furnish a reply within the next 72 hours," read the statement released.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If the federation fails to provide clarification within the deadline, the ministry will take suitable action against it as per the&nbsp;National Sports Development Code, 2011.</p>

<p>As the wrestlers continue their protest, SAI has cancelled the Women National Wrestling Coaching Camp that was scheduled to start on January 18 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with participation of 41 wrestlers and 13 coaches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, Indian wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and others sat on a 'Dharna' (protest) on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar in the capital city of New Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"They told me their stories. I can't take their names now but I can definitely reveal the names if we get to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of the country."</p>

<p>“I have been trying to talk to the federation and make them understand my issues and those of other wrestlers for nearly 10 years. But nobody is even ready to listen," she added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The women wrestlers received support from their male counterparts. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia said he and his fellow wrestlers will not compete internationally if Bhushan is not removed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We will not compete in any international competition until WFI President is removed."</p>

<p>"I came here as soon as I got to know the wrestlers are protesting. Is there anyone on record who can say the federation has molested us?" said Singh.&nbsp;</p>

Big ticket Indian wrestlers on Wednesday opened a can of worms by alleging sexual harassment and corruption in the working of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik accused the federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Sharma of sexual harassment while Bajrang Punia alleged that the office-bearers of the federation are knee-deep in corruption. During the protest at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Phogat, a veteran of the sport, told the media that 'national coaches' had been molesting female wrestlers over the years. “Women wrestlers have been sexually harassed at national camps by coaches and also the WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Sharma," said Phogat in a press conference. "Some of the coaches appointed at national camps have been sexually harassing women wrestlers for years. The WFI president is also involved in sexual harassment." "They told me their stories. But nobody is even ready to listen," she added. The women wrestlers received support from their male counterparts. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia said he and his fellow wrestlers will not compete internationally if Bhushan is not removed. Wrestling had been one of India's most successful sports at the Olympics with 4 medals since Independence. Wrestling however was a male-dominated sport and female wrestlers were frowned upon in the state of Haryana. <p>Indian wrestlers finished their campaign in CWG 2018 with two gold and two bronze medals on Saturday.&nbsp</p>

<p>Vinesh Phogat and Sumit Malik won the gold medals in the women’s 50kg and men’s 125kg while Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in women’s 62kg.&nbsp</p>

<p>The other bronze medallist was Somveer who won the medal in 86kg. India won a medal in each category and finished at the top of the medals tally in wrestling.&nbsp</p>

<p>With five gold, three silver and four bronze, India took the first place amongst Commonwealth Games nations.</p>

<p>India&#39;s women athletes will for the first time wear trousers and a blazer instead of a traditional sari at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Australia, a move that has pitted reformers against traditionalists.</p>

<p>Many Indian women competitors have welcomed the dark blue blazer and trousers that the Indian Olympic Association said was introduced at the request of the country&#39;s athletes&#39; commission.</p>

<p>But female stars like badminton ace PV Sindhu and&nbsp;wrestler Sakshi Malik, both Olympic medalists, prefer the&nbsp;time-honoured sari, a flowing dress draped over the body.</p>

<p>&quot;We always feel happy and proud when we wear a sari during the opening ceremonies,&quot; Malik told the Mail Today newspaper.</p>

<p>Younger athletes feel it will be a change for the better at the opening parade for the 21st Commonwealth Games starting April 4 in Gold Coast, Australia.</p>

India's Olympic medal winners to be conferred with Khel Ratna, 15 others to get Arjuna award

Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won India&#39;s first medal in the Rio Olympics, was today announced as the country&#39;s flagbearer at the Summer Games closing ceremony.<br />

The announcement came after India&#39;s last medal hope Yogeshwar Dutt lost 0-3 to Ganzorig Mandakhnaran in the qualifying of the 65kg freestyle wrestling.<br />

Rohtak district today erupted in joy and celebrations after local girl Sakshi Malik made India&#39;s northern Haryana state and the country proud by winning a Bronze medal in wrestling at the Rio Olympics.<br />

Sudesh, who has not slept for more than 20 hours till today morning, along with her husband and other family members were glued to the television to watch Sakshi&#39;s bout and they all erupted in joy when she won the match.<br />

Back in India, Sakshi's home state erupts in joy

India has finally managed to open their medal account in the ongoing Rio Olympics as wrestler Sakshi Malik clinched a bronze in the women&#39;s freestyle 58 kg event after defeating Asian number 1 Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyztan 8-5 here today.<br />
<br />
Although the 23-year-old was trailing 0-5 against her Kyrgyzstani opponent after the first period, she bounced back in style to hand India its fourth bronze medal in wrestling in the Olympic history.<br />
<br />
Prior to this, Malik won her repechage round 2 bout by beating Mongolia&#39;s Purevdorj Orkhon 12-3 to advance to the bronze-medal match.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Malik had earlier suffered a major setback as she went down 2-9 against Russia&#39;s Valeriia Koblova in the quarter-finals of the event. She, however, had brought herself back into the medal contention after her Russian opponent made it to the finals of the freestyle 58 kg event.<br />
<br />
With the win, Malik has now become only the fourth Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleshwari, Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal. Malik is only the fourth Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal

India has finally managed to open their medal account in the ongoing Rio Olympics as wrestler Sakshi Malik clinched a bronze in the women's freestyle 58 kg event after defeating Asian number 1 Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyztan 8-5 here today. Although the 23-year-old was trailing 0-5 against her Kyrgyzstani opponent after the first period, she bounced back in style to hand India its fourth bronze medal in wrestling in the Olympic history. Prior to this, Malik won her repechage round 2 bout by beating Mongolia's Purevdorj Orkhon 12-3 to advance to the bronze-medal match. Malik had earlier suffered a major setback as she went down 2-9 against Russia's Valeriia Koblova in the quarter-finals of the event. She, however, had brought herself back into the medal contention after her Russian opponent made it to the finals of the freestyle 58 kg event. With the win, Malik has now become only the fourth Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleshwari, Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal. She has also become the fourth Indian wrestler to win a medal in Olympics after Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav,two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt. Indian Prime Minister congratulated the freestyle wrestler, hailing from the northern Haryana, on the microblogging site Twitter. "Sakshi Malik creates history! Congratulations to her for the Bronze. The entire nation is rejoicing.
