<h2><strong>Cameron to take seat in House of Lords</strong></h2>

<p>Though no longer an elected politician, Cameron, after having stood down as an MP in 2016, will take a seat in the the upper house, House of Lords, to enable him to take up the post.</p>

<p>He had to step down&nbsp;after he lost the Brexit referendum where he campaigned for "Remain" camp that advocated for the UK to remain in European Union.</p>

<p>Though he pretty much maintained a low profile since his exit,&nbsp;The Guardian news outlet reported that&nbsp;Cameron had told his friends in 2018 that he wanted to return to politics, preferably as foreign secretary.</p>

<p>Under the UK constitution, a minister does not have to be a member of either House of Parliament, but in recent years, such ministers have been appointed to the House of Lords in order for them to be accountable to the parliament.</p>

<p>Following his appointment, Cameron put out a lengthy statement on social media platform X, where he talked about his office’s priorities.</p>

<p>Referring to Braverman's article published in the British daily The Times on Wednesday, a former senior officer had accused the home secretary of trying to "end" police independence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Braverman claimed in her article that right-wing protesters were "rightly met with a stern response", but the "pro-Palestinian mobs" were "largely ignored".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last year as well, Sunak was seen lighting diyas outside his official residence at 10 Downing Street, London. He lit up Downing Street during the pandemic as well, when he was the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer.</p>

<p>The now-former government aide also warned against the “collective punishment” of the people of Gaza “for the crimes of Hamas.” Bristow, who is the Conservative MP for Peterborough, is among a few Tory MPs who have called for a ceasefire in Gaza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bristow, in the letter posted on Facebook also said some of his constituents have been “directly affected” by the ongoing war. “It is difficult to understand how this makes Israel more secure or indeed makes anything better,” said the Tory MP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The UK government along with several other countries in the West have repeatedly said that Israel has a right to defend itself.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this month, the UK PM also visited Israel and met with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and extended support to the country in its “darkest hour” amid its ongoing fight with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sunak has also announced millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza while addressing the parliament last week.</p>

<p>Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss in a letter to her successor Rishi Sunak, on Thursday (Oct 26), asked him to "reconsider" his decision to extend an invite to China for the upcoming AI summit.</p>

<p>Truss said that she was "deeply disturbed" to learn that the British government intended to welcome representatives of China who have in the past abused technology for its own gains and have devalued freedom and democracy.</p>

<p>Expressing her disappointment, she took to her official X account and said, "China should not be invited to the UK's AI Summit at Bletchley Park. We should be working with our allies, not those seeking to subvert freedom and democracy. I have written to the Prime Minister requesting that the invitation be rescinded."</p>

<p>She, in the letter, hit out at the Chinese state which she said had used technology to "aid its oppression of millions and attack on freedom and democracy”. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“The regime in Beijing has a fundamentally different attitude to the West about AI, seeing it as a means of state control and a tool for national security,” she warned in the letter shared on X.</p>

<p>She further in the letter stated that the above-mentioned reasons were why the deputy prime minister of the UK in 2020 when he was serving as digital secretary, had removed all Huawei equipment from the UK's 5G networks.</p>

<p>British intelligence agencies have warned that generative artificial intelligence (AI) will pose a stark threat to political systems by 2025. The warnings were published prior to UK's stewardship of a global technology summit focused on regulatory development of AI technologies and UK PM Rishi Sunak's note of caution on the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The warnings were put out in a series of papers laid out by the UK government in relation to the risks and opportunities posed by AI.</p>

<h2><strong>What are British intelligence papers about?</strong></h2>

<p>The papers, based on British intelligence assessments&nbsp;of the near-term threats, pointed to "Digital Risks" such as cybercrime and hacking, as an area where generative AI models are likely to have the largest negative impact.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The papers also flagged potential threats to democracy.</p>

<p>"Risks to political systems and societies will increase in likelihood to 2025, becoming as significant as digital risks as generative AI develops and adoption widens," the report warns. "Threats include manipulation and deception of populations."</p>

<p>"Generative AI tools have already been shown capable of persuading humans on political issues and can be used to increase the scale, persuasiveness and frequency of disinformation and misinformation," the paper adds.</p>

<p>Another scenario outlined how automation could lead to increased unemployment and poverty by 2030 as well as "fierce public debate about the future of education and work".</p>
