During the speech, President Kovind also pointed out that sometimes dogmas and personal prejudices distort the truth.

"In the 150th year of Gandhiji’s birth, let us ponder upon this question: Will it not be proper to pursue truth itself as the ideology? Gandhiji has shown us the path by walking ceaselessly in search of truth which would ultimately encompass every positive attribute that enriches the universe."

Asserting that the air quality of the national capital and other cities has worsened beyond all norms, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said hydrocarbon energy has changed the world's face in the last couple of centuries and now it is threatening 'our very existence'.

Speaking at the conference of IITs, NITs and IIEST, Shibpur hosted by Rashtrapati Bhavan, Kovind said, "This is that time of the year when the air quality of the national capital as well as of many other cities worsens beyond all norms. We are facing a kind of challenge here that we have never faced before. Hydrocarbon energy changed the face of the world in the last couple of centuries, but now it is threatening our very existence. The challenge is compounded for nations battling to bring substantial sections of populations out of poverty. Yet, we will have to find alternatives."

The President said that many scientists and futurologists have painted doomsday scenarios. "On days of smog and poor visibility in our cities, we fear the future might already be here."

He expressed confidence that institutions like IITs, NITs with their various specialisations, would take care to create a sensitivity and awareness among students and researchers towards our common future.

"Our government has made focused efforts to improve India's ranking on the Ease of Doing Business Index, and now it aims to improve the Ease of Living for all citizens."

This Conference is part of regular interactions of the President with such institutions in his capacity as a visitor to 152 Central Universities and institutions of higher learning.

President Ram Nath Kovind will embark on a three-day visit to Karnataka on October 10.

According to the schedule, President Kovind will first arrive in Mysuru where he will visit the royal palace and inaugurate the centenary celebration of the Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar.

The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill was passed by the Parliament and President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent soon, thereafter, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended judges names to the government on August 28.

The Centre on September 18 cleared the appointments on Collegium`s recommendation.&nbsp;

Welcoming Battulga to India, the President said this is the first visit of a Mongolian president in the last 10 years.

Kovind said India greatly values its close and friendly relations with Mongolia.

He was also happy to note that bilateral relations between the two countries are now expanding into economic cooperation in several areas such as infrastructure, space and digital connectivity.

Both sides further reviewed cooperation in the fields of cybersecurity, information technology, disaster management, mining and animal husbandry, the statement said.

The two countries signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in areas regarding disaster management and risk reduction, and cooperation and usage of outer space for peaceful and civilian purposes.

They also secured a comprehensive work plan for cooperation in the field of animal health and dairy.

Kovind appreciated Mongolia for its consistent support to India's candidature for permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

He also appreciated Mongolia's decision to join the International Solar Alliance and said this will strengthen the partnership in the renewable energy sector and help the two countries combat climate change.

Subsequently, in his banquet speech, Kovind said the "centuries-old people-to-people exchanges have been the bedrock of our ties".

"Buddhist monks and traders from India travelled to Mongolia with the message of peace, harmony and friendship. Similarly, over the ages, Mongolian scholars and pilgrims came to India in pursuit of Buddhist studies and spiritual blessings. This ageless tradition continues. India, today, is privileged to host around 800 Mongolian students engaged in Buddhist studies," Kovind said.

Battulga received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier today. He arrived in India on a five-day visit with an aim to intensifying bilateral ties between the two countries.
