A blast&nbsp;occurred at a bus stand in Jammu and Kashmir(J&amp;K)&nbsp;on Thursday.

MK Sinha, Inspector General of Police(IGP) Jammu said, "It was a grenade explosion."

Reports said at least twenty-eight people were injured due to the blast.

This is the third grenade attack&nbsp;in the bus stand area of the city since May last year.

Police said people&nbsp;who were injured in the blast have been admitted to hospital. At least 5 people are in critical condition.

The scene of the blast along the BC Road was sealed off by police and a massive hunt has been launched to nab the grenade thrower, MK Sinha, IGP, Jammu, said.

Sinha, who immediately rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation, said a preliminary investigation suggests that someone lobbed the grenade, causing injuries to&nbsp;people who were evacuated to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital.

Windscreens of a parked state road transport corporation (SRTC) bus were damaged in the blast, a police official said, adding a condition of one of the injured was stated to be "critical".

A Major-rank Army officer was killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday while trying to defuse an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;

The officer was from the Corps of Engineers. According to reports, the IED was planted around 1.5 kilometres inside the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district's Naushera sector.&nbsp;

Major Chitresh Singh Bisht, leading the Bomb Disposal Team in Naushera sector, defused one of the mines successfully. While neutralizing another mine, the device got activated. The officer suffered grievous injuries and succumbed to them.

Major Chitresh Singh Bisht hailed from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. During the sanitisation of track in Naushera Sector, mines were detected on the track, ANI reported.&nbsp;

The incident comes just a couple of days after a ghastly terror attack killed over 40 CRPF soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama on Thursday. The attack is billed as the worst terror attack on security forces in the state.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, an all-party meeting called by Centre to deliberate upon the situations arising out of Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir passed a resolution strongly condemning the ''dastardly terror act''.&nbsp;

J&K: Army officer killed while defusing IED planted by terrorists in Rajouri

An Army soldier was killed Saturday in <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/jk-1-bsf-soldier-killed-in-pakistani-sniper-fire-33527">sniper fire by Pakistani troops</a> along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.

The spokesman identified the soldier as rifleman Varun Kattal (21), a resident of Mawa-Rajpura area of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. He is survived by his parents, father Anchal Singh and mother Pinki Rani.

This was the second sniper attack along the LoC in two days. An Army porter lost his life in a similar attack in Akhnoor sector of Jammu Friday.

"At about 0945 hours, unprovoked ceasefire violation was initiated by Pakistan in Sunderbani sector in which one Army soldier was shot by a sniper from across the border and later succumbed to injuries at 11.10 AM," the spokesman said.

"Rifleman Kattal was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," the spokesman said adding his martyrdom will not go in vain.

The ceasefire&nbsp;in Jammu and Kashmir has been violated over 400 times already this year, with 23 Pakistani and 16 Indian soldiers losing their lives in the cross-border firing.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The violations have also killed civilians from both sides.&nbsp;

The ceasefire along the International border and the Line Of Control between India and Pakistan came into force as a confidence-building measure between the two countries on November 26, 2003.

A recent media report quoted Army Chief General Bipin Rawat as saying the Pakistani Army suffers three to four times more casualties in the exchange of fire.&nbsp;

The media report added that in 2017, India lost about 32 soldiers along the LoC whereas Pakistan estimated lost between 130-140 soldiers.&nbsp;

Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, 32, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, 34, and Sepoy Pargat Singh, 30,&nbsp; and Lance Naik Kuldeep Singh were grievously injured during the ceasefire violation and succumbed to their injuries.&nbsp;

One soldier&nbsp;was injured in the firing and is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.&nbsp;

The Army, in a statement, said that Indian troops retaliated &quot;strongly and effectively&quot;.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh paid rich tributes to the slain soldiers and condemned Pakistan for the ceasefire violation further adding that Pakistan has got isolated at the global stage, especially on the issue of terrorism.

&quot;Pakistan is indulging in such cowardly actions and is being given a befitting response, but it does not desist from such cowardly acts. Pakistan is a terrorist state and it will not be too long before the country is declared a terrorist state by the world. It does not only support terrorism but also provide state sponsorship,&quot; Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Major Ambadas&nbsp;belonged to Bhandara district in Maharashtra and is survived by wife Avoli Moharkar, while Lance Naik Gurmail Singh&nbsp;belonged to Amritsar district in Punjab and is survived by wife Kuljit Kaur and a daughter.

Sepoy Pargat Singh&nbsp;belonged to Karnal district in Haryana and is survived by wife Ramanpreet Kaur and a son, the Army said.
