Manchester United crashed to a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, while Chelsea missed the chance to go top of the Premier League after a 0-0 draw at Everton on Sunday.

United boss Ruben Amorim, who once again left Marcus Rashford out of his squad, is set for a miserable Christmas following the worst result of his brief reign.

Languishing in 13th place, United have suffered four defeats in nine matches in all competitions since Amorim arrived from Sporting Lisbon in November to replace the sacked Erik ten Hag.

United's second successive loss after their League Cup exit at Tottenham on Thursday underlined Amorim's belief that their road back to the top will be long and arduous.

United, who have conceded first in their last six games, were booed off at half-time, while the final whistle was greeted by more jeers from the few fans who stayed until the bitter end.

While it is far too early to pass judge on Amorim, the Portuguese coach cannot afford many more results like this if he is to keep the players and fans on his side.

Amorim's decision to play without Rashford for the third consecutive game will face fresh scrutiny after United's wretched performance.

Amorim surprisingly omitted the 27-year-old England forward from the squad for United's win at Manchester City last weekend, prompting Rashford to hint he was willing to leave the club for a "new challenge".

Rashford was at Old Trafford wearing a United tracksuit amid his extended exile as Amorim made six changes from the line-up beaten 4-3 by Tottenham in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Again, United were exposed at set-pieces in the 29th minute when Bournemouth's teenage defender Dean Huijsen punished poor marking at a free-kick to glance a header past Andre Onana.

There was even worse to come for Amorim in the second half as Justin Kluivert doubled fifth-placed Bournemouth's advantage with a 61st minute penalty following Noussair Mazraoui's foul on the forward.

Antoine Semenyo compounded United's misery two minutes later with a cool finish from Dango Ouattara's pass.

With leaders Liverpool playing at Tottenham in Sunday's late game, second-placed Chelsea would have gone top, for at least a few hours, if they had won at Everton.

But Enzo Maresca's side had to settle for a goalless stalemate that ended their five-match winning run in the league.

Chelsea sit one point behind Liverpool who have two games in hand on the Blues, starting with their trip to Tottenham.

It was an encouraging start to a new era for Everton -- four points clear of the relegation zone -- under new owners the Friedkin Group, whose purchase brought an end to Farhad Moshiri's tumultuous tenure.

Everton's new executive chairman Marc Watts was in attendance at Goodison Park to see Chelsea come closest to winning when Nicolas Jackson's first-half header hit the post.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira enjoyed a dream debut as his side won 3-0 at relegation rivals Leicester.

Replacing the sacked Gary O'Neil, former Porto boss Pereira left his role at Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab to fulfil his dream of managing in England.

Goncalo Guedes started the Pereira era with a flourish as he met Nelson Semedo's cross with an agile finish in the 19th minute.

As if that welcome gift from his fellow Portuguese wasn't enough, Pereira received another present from a compatriot in the 36th minute when Rodrigo Gomes slid in to notch his first goal for Wolves.

Matheus Cunha's 44th minute strike from Guedes' pass ensured third-bottom Wolves would move within two points of fourth-bottom Leicester.

Bottom-of-the-table Southampton held on for a 0-0 draw at Fulham as new manager Ivan Juric watched from the stands.

Juric, axed by Roma in November after just 12 games, was not in charge on Sunday as he awaited a work permit to replace Russell Martin.

Southampton are eight points adrift of safety with only one win from 17 league games.

Premier League: Man Utd embarrassed by Bournemouth, Chelsea held at Everton

London, United Kingdom
Premier League basement club Southampton on Saturday appointed Ivan Juric as their new manager on an 18-month contract.
The former Roma and Torino boss replaces the sacked Russell Martin, with the south coast club bottom of the table and nine points from safety ahead of their match at Fulham on Sunday.
Martin was dismissed after an embarrassing 5-0 loss at home to Tottenham last weekend.
Saints said Juric had a reputation for "helping his teams punch above their weight".

Struggling Southampton appoint Ivan Juric as new manager

Birmingham, United Kingdom
Manchester City hit a new low on Saturday (Dec 21) after they lost to Aston Villa in the Premier League’s early kickoff. Playing at Villa Park, Pep Guardiola’s side was condemned to their third consecutive defeat, meaning they have won only one of their last 12 matches in all competitions. On the other hand, Villa move above Man City with the win as Unai Emery’s side look to challenge for the top four and a return to the Champions League.

Playing against Emery’s side, City came into the match on the back of a narrow defeat to Manchester United at the Etihad. However, things did not go well with Pep’s side as in-form Jhon Duran scored in the 16th minute from open play. Villa were the better side by then and pressed on every possible counterattack.
Duran and Lucas Digne both had more open opportunities as they looked to open the opposition's defense. Things could have gone from bad to worse in the 33rd minute for City, but last-ditch defending from City’s defense saw them keep the score at 1-0.

After the break, Morgan Rodgers was the bright star as the visitors had to make a forced change in defense with Kyle Walker coming in place of injured John Stones. Rodgers scored the second Villa goal in the 65th minute while Phil Foden’s goal in the 93rd minute was just a consolation.
"Congratulations Aston Villa and keep going. In the mid-block, they are so strong.
"We have good moments, we had chances, more chances than in the (Manchester) United game, but in the second half we dropped and our pressing was not good enough... We found a goal in the end, but too late."

Pep Guardiola believes Erling Haaland will find his form so long as the rest of his Manchester City team-mates raise their game but has not ruled out January transfer window signings as he looks to revive the Premier League champions' fortunes.

City are enduring a slump unlike any Guardiola has known in his celebrated managerial career, having lost eight and won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

The downturn has seen the usually prolific Haaland, a key figure while City were winning an unprecedented four successive Premier League titles, denied of service and chances while scoring just once in his last five appearances.

Guardiola, however, said he had no interest in reverting to the 'false nine' system that he has used to good effect in the past.

"I prefer to play with Erling," said Guardiola ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa.&nbsp;

"I don't think in the situation that I have that I don't let Erling play -- absolutely not. No, no, I didn't think about that.

"Always I play false nines for the quality specifically of the players I have in that moment.

"In some games playing man to man, I love to play against false nines but I have an Erling, I have to adapt."

The Catalan boss added: "I see him well, I see him fine. The reason why maybe he's not so productive in this situation is for the way we are playing, that we don't produce the amount of chances that we were able to do in the past.

"When he's surrounded by two or three or four central defenders it's not easy for him. We have to play better, to create the spaces for him."

City have rarely ventured into the transfer market during the January window in Guardiola's eight years in charge but he accepts that policy could change this time around.

"We'll see," he said. "I don't know how many times in the last years we've gone into the winter (market) -- maybe just Aymeric Laporte seven years ago.

"We're not a big fan of that but the circumstances of this season have been special. We have to see if something is possible and if not we will wait until the summer time."

London, UK
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka are likely to be the first players who will want to leave the club due to a lack of game time as the January transfer window looms. Neither player has featured in the Premier League this season and their absence from Maresca's second-string selections in the Conference League and League Cup has long pointed towards a Stamford Bridge exit.

England international Chilwell was told in August he was not in the head coach's plans but a comeback looked possible when the 27-year-old played the second half of September's League Cup win over Barrow.
That return has not materialised, while 21-year-old Chukwuemeka has been largely been limited to substitute appearances.
"There are players that unfortunately didn't play a lot with us in all the competitions, like Chilwell, like Carney," said Maresca ahead of Sunday's trip to Everton. "Probably they're the first that will want to leave because they work every day because they want to play. If they don't play probably they are thinking to leave.
"Each player has a different situation so we'll see if anyone knocks on the door and says 'I want to leave'. We'll try to find a solution."
Maresca has had the luxury of a run of fixtures against limited opposition in Europe, during which he has given significant game time to players who have struggled to get into his Premier League line-ups.
They finished top of the Conference League table, ensuring direct passage to the last 16, meaning a hiatus from European duty until March.
A number of senior internationals have relied on those games for minutes, most notably Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix, though teenage striker Marc Guiu, who is top scorer in the Conference League, have also earned valuable experience in the competition.
"I'm not worried about the next three months, if the players are happy or not," said Maresca. "We have many games, if they do the right things, if they work properly for sure they all are going to have a chance to play.
Chelsea, second in the Premier League, would leapfrog leaders Liverpool, at least briefly, if they beat Everton on Sunday, with Arne Slot's men kicking off later.

Manchester, UK
Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a muscular issue, compounding Pep Guardiola's problems as he seeks to save the club's season.
The Portugal international missed all five matches in November with a calf problem but returned at the start of December and has been an ever-present this month.

The City boss added that Dias would be out for "three or four weeks".
"After 75 minutes against United he felt something," he said. "He's strong and wanted to stay on the pitch but now he's injured."
Injury-hit City have suffered a dramatic collapse in form over recent weeks, losing eight of their past 11 games in all competitions and are fifth in the Premier League table.
Nathan Ake remains out but fellow defenders Manuel Akanji and John Stones are back in full training.
"Manuel and John are back in training," said Guardiola. "That is good for us. As many players that are back the better.
"I don't know yet (if they can start against Aston Villa). Yesterday was their first training session, I would say, properly. They have been out for a while."

<h2>Son scores rare olimpico goal</h2>
With the score 3-2 in favour of the home side, Son took a corner at the famous North Stand with the crowd expecting him to deliver a neat ball in the six-yard penalty box. However, spectacularly, the South Korean’s neat delivery landed directly into the net and beat United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır, in the process of completing the Olimpico goal.
The goal is a rare event in football, adding another feather to Son’s impressive hat as he continues to flourish in North London.
Over the years, the Spurs captain has been renowned to score some spectacular goals with one of his goals also winning the Puskas Award for Best Goal of the Year in professional football. In December 2019, Son scored a solo goal while running almost 100 metres from his own penalty area against Burnley which saw him win the Puskas Award.

<h2>Spurs to take on Liverpool in the League Cup semis</h2>
With Spurs already scheduled to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, the two teams have also been paired up for the semis of the League Cup. Ange Postecoglou’s side will take on the Reds over two legs in January and February with a place in the final up for grabs. The competition is a perfect opportunity for the Lilywhites to end their 17-year drought for a senior trophy.
The North London side is still active in three competitions as they are also enjoying a good run in the Europa League while they will kick-off their FA Cup campaign in January against Tamworth.

Playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the single-legged quarterfinal tie, Son Heung-min scored his goal directly from a corner, setting the stage on fire. The win also helped Spurs reach the semifinals of the competition for the first time since the 2021-22 season.

London, UK
The US-based Friedkin Group have completed the takeover of Everton, the Premier League club announced Thursday.
Everton said the club had been acquired by Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, an entity within the Friedkin Group.

The Premier League said the Friedkin Group had purchased a 98.8 percent stake in Everton, which becomes the 10th English top-flight club under majority American ownership -- a list that includes Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Thursday's announcement came after Everton said in September the Friedkin Group had agreed to buy Farhad Moshiri's majority stake in the struggling side subject to regulatory approval -- which has now been granted by the Premier League, Women's Professional Leagues Limited, the Football Association and the Financial Conduct Authority.
The BBC reported the Friedkin Group's deal to buy Everton was worth in excess of £400 million ($506 million).
The Texas-based group is led by chairman Dan Friedkin and also owns Italian Serie A club Roma. Friedkin has a net worth of £6.16 billion, according to Forbes.
Everton have twice been sanctioned under the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) in the last 13 months, and had eight points in total deducted last season.
American investment firm 777 Partners were unable to complete a deal earlier this year.
John Textor, who has a 45 percent share in Crystal Palace, had appeared to be in the frame before Everton confirmed they were entering into an agreement with the Friedkin Group.
Everton are putting the finishing touches to a new stadium and are preparing to leave Goodison Park, which has been the club's home since 1892.
They are currently 16th in the Premier League table, just three points above the relegation zone.
Everton have remained in the English top flight for the last 70 years but have survived several battles to avoid relegation in recent seasons.
The Liverpool-based club posted losses of just under £400 million ($534 million) for the four years between 2019 and 2023.
British-Iranian businessman Moshiri first bought a 49.9 percent stake in Everton in 2016, before increasing his holding to 94.1 percent in 2022.
<h2>'Great institution'</h2>
Despite their recent struggles, Everton are one of England's most historic clubs. Only Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have won more top-flight titles than their total of nine.
Friedkin, in an open letter, said: "I take immense pride in welcoming one of England's most historic football clubs to our global family, the Friedkin Group. Everton represents a proud legacy, and we are honoured to become custodians of this great institution."
Incoming executive chairman Marc Watts said: "Providing immediate financial stability to the club has been a key priority, and we are delighted to have achieved this.
Everton were last crowned champions of England in the 1986/87 season and have not won a major trophy since 1995.
But Watts added: "While restoring Everton to its rightful place in the Premier League table will take time, today is the first step in that journey."
Moshiri welcomed the deal by saying: "I truly believe that the transaction with The Friedkin Group is the best outcome for the club and its future success."
Everton, managed by Sean Dyche, are at home to second-placed Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday with Friedkin Group representatives expected to be in attendance at Goodison Park.

Old Trafford, UK
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said he wants to keep Marcus Rashford in his squad after the local hero suggested he could leave Old Trafford for a "new challenge".
The 27-year-old, who was left out of last weekend's derby against Manchester City, came through United's youth ranks and has chalked up 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2016.

However, he has struggled for form over the last 18 months, losing his place in England's squad for the Euros in the summer.
Amorim's bold decision to leave out the forward against City was followed by Rashford's interview with British journalist Henry Winter on social media on Tuesday in which the forward revealed he was ready to end his 20-year association with United.
Rashford's comments were put to Amorim at a Wednesday press conference scheduled to preview nominally the club's League Cup quarter-final at Tottenham.
"No (I've not spoken to him)," Amorim said. "Not yet. It was yesterday (when) I gave the day off to the lads, so he's our player and he's ready for the next game."
Asked if he would be happy to retain Rashford in his squad, the recently-arrived Amorim replied: "Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he's a big talent.
"So, he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus."
Amorim added the "new challenge" Rashford spoke of could be found at Old Trafford in trying to revive the fortunes of United, once the dominant force in English football, but now a lowly 13th in the Premier League.
"We have here a new challenge, it's a tough one," he said. "For me, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"So, this is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge."

"So, he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus." Amorim added the "new challenge" Rashford spoke of could be found at Old Trafford in trying to revive the fortunes of United, once the dominant force in English football, but now a lowly 13th in the Premier League. "We have here a new challenge, it's a tough one," he said. "For me, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. "So, this is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge." "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that the Football Association recently contacted our player, Mykhailo Mudryk, concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test," a club statement said. "Both the club and Mykhailo fully support the FA's testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested."

Mudryk issued a statement via his Instagram account.
"I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance," it said. "This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened."

FA suspends Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk over failed drug test

Bournemouth's Enes Unal provided a dramatic climax to his side's 1-1 draw with West Ham on Monday as the Turkey forward's superb late free-kick cancelled out Lucas Paqueta's penalty.

Paqueta looked to have sealed West Ham's second successive Premier League victory when he converted from the spot with just three minutes left at the Vitality Stadium.

But Unal came to the Cherries' rescue three minutes later with only his second goal this season.

The 27-year-old's moment of magic extended Bournemouth's unbeaten run to four games as they climbed to sixth place.

Bournemouth have scored a league-high 10 goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season.&nbsp;

Two of those goals came in a remarkable 2-1 win at Ipswich in their previous game, with Unal also scoring Bournemouth's equaliser on that occasion.

"Enes scored an amazing goal. He's a specialist. But it's only one point. I'm very disappointed with the penalty," Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola said of the decision that went against his team for Tyler Adams' handball.

"It is a play we analysed at a meeting before the season. They (refereeing chiefs) said players don't need to defend with hands behind their back in an unnatural position.

"It didn't affect the direction of the cross. I don't care about the explanation now. It has cost us and I'm very disappointed."

West Ham have gone two games without defeat to ease a little of the pressure on boss Julen Lopetegui.

They remain in 14th place and sit seven points clear of the relegation zone.

"We suffered a little bit and overcame this to score, but it was an incredible goal from Unal. It's a pity," Lopetegui said.

"There are positives. This is the first step to be strong and a better team."

<h2>Sting in the tale</h2>

Bournemouth have beaten Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal at home this season, so the under-fire Lopetegui might have feared the worst when Iraola's team made a strong start.

Antoine Semenyo was the catalyst for Bournemouth's first threat as he won a towering header before sprinting into the area to meet Evanilson's return pass with a low strike that glanced off the far post.&nbsp;

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen scored the late winner when the sides last met in the League Cup in August and he nearly tormented Bournemouth again with a curler from the edge of the area that clanged off the crossbar.

Lopetegui's men were a threat on the counter and Carlos Soler whipped a shot narrowly wide before Tomas Soucek dragged a close-range effort just past the post.

Bournemouth's Dango Ouattara looked certain to break the deadlock when the ball fell to him just five yards from goal, but Lukasz Fabianski threw himself across to make a superb save with his legs.

Ouattara almost bent a long-range effort past Fabianski soon after the interval, while Ryan Christie's drive was tipped over by the Hammers 'keeper.

After Fabianski denied Philip Billing and pushed away Christie's follow-up, West Ham took the lead in the 87th minute.

Adams half-blocked Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross with his out-stretched arm and referee Chris Kavanagh gave the penalty after consulting the pitchside monitor.

Paqueta took the spot-kick and calmly sent Kepa Arrizabalaga the wrong way with his stutter-step run-up.

But there was a sting in the tale in the 90th minute as Unal bagged a brilliant equaliser, looping an unstoppable free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards.

England
Phil Foden insists Manchester City's players still believe in Pep Guardiola despite the painful loss against Manchester United that extended their dismal streak.
Guardiola's side have lost eight of their past 11 games in all competitions following the devastating 2-1 defeat in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Unhinged by the kind of dismal defending that has become a regular feature of their stunning decline, City conceded twice in the closing minutes as United dealt another blow to the Premier League champions' fading hopes of a fifth successive title.
Fifth-placed City are trailing nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, and have already suffered five league defeats this season -- after enduring just three in the whole of the last top-flight campaign.
Guardiola said after the game that he is "not good enough" as the worst crisis of his managerial career deepened.
But City forward Foden is adamant the Spaniard, who recently signed a new two-year contract, retains the support of his beleaguered squad.
"We are still nowhere near our level, but I still believe that we are playing good enough to get points and results," he said.
"It's about remaining focused throughout the full 90 minutes, but we keep switching off at important times. We just need to get the focus right.
"We stick together, regroup and believe in ourselves after what we've achieved in the past.
"We keep believing in the process and the manager -- I'm sure if we do that we will get back to winning ways and get back to our level."
City desperately need to find a winning formula ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa.
Foden admitted he is baffled by City's remarkable fall from grace, with the damage to the team's morale clear to him in the dressing room after the derby defeat.
"I can't put a finger on what's going on," Foden said.
"I thought the performance was more than good enough to get the result, but we come out with no points, and it seems to be the same story at the moment. We just have to stick together.
"The changing room is obviously going to be down and sad at the moment, but we can't dwell on this too much."
After facing Villa, Guardiola's team host Everton on December 26 before visiting Leicester in their last game of 2024.
With the busy festive season looming, Foden urged his teammates to stick together.
"It's about keeping our mentality strong throughout the whole 90 minutes and we're not doing that at the moment," he said.
"We have to go again and show character to come back from this blip.
"It's not a time for moaning, it's about sticking together, remaining strong and going again. I'm positive we are going to come back."

Manchester United scored two late goals on Sunday to deepen the pain for beleaguered Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as Chelsea moved just two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Elsewhere on a day of high drama in the English top flight, Wolves manager Gary O'Neil and Southampton boss Russell Martin were both sacked, paying the price for their teams' struggles.

In the marquee game of the day at the Etihad, City defender Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring but Bruno Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot in the 88th minute and Amad Diallo struck two minutes later to seal a 2-1 win. Defending champions City -- who have dominated English football over the past decade -- now have just one win in 11 games in all competitions and Guardiola is desperately searching for answers.

"I don't have a defence, I'm the boss, I'm the manager. I have to find a solution and I don't find a solution," said the Catalan after the low-quality encounter.&nbsp; "This is a big club, when you lose eight out of 11, something wrong is happening. What can I say? The schedule is tough, the injured players? No. "I'm the boss, I'm the manager and I'm not good enough. It's as simple as that."

Guardiola's men trail leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, by nine points and sit outside the Champions League places, in fifth spot. Injury-ravaged City were far from their best at the Etihad but appeared to be on course for a vital win as the clock ticked down against their neighbours before they self-imploded.

Diallo and the Portuguese midfielder cut out Matheus Nunes' sloppy back pass then chopped down the United winger in his attempt to make amends. Fernandes coolly converted from the penalty spot to equalise. Diallo then raced onto a simple long ball over the top of City's flat-footed defence, finishing neatly to complete a remarkable turnaround.

The win is a huge relief for new United boss Ruben Amorim, who had won just one of his first four Premier League matches. "I think for the fans it has a deep meaning, especially in this context, in this moment," the former Sporting Lisbon boss said after his first experience of a Manchester derby. "We had a difficult moment one week ago against Nottingham (Forest) at home with a storm. It was a really tough moment after the game. Today, we are more happy, but it's three points that we have to continue."

United finished the day 13th in the Premier League table -- where they started -- after Tottenham hammered bottom club Southampton 5-0.

<h2>- Chelsea charge -</h2>

Enzo Maresca's high-flying Chelsea beat Brentford 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to close to within two points of long-time leaders Liverpool, who have 36 points. The home team dominated the first half and got the reward they deserved shortly before the break when Marc Cucurella nodded home Noni Madueke's cross.

Nicolas Jackson&nbsp;doubled Chelsea's lead in the 80th minute and they held out for the win despite a late strike from prolific Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. It is a fifth straight win for Chelsea, who look increasingly like being Liverpool's main challengers this season, with Arsenal and City faltering.

But Maresca is still being coy over his side's title chances. "It's not about how many games we win," he said. "It's about being realistic. There are things we have to do better. That's why I said for me we are not ready."

Tottenham's romp on the south coast was the latest chapter in a topsy-turvy season for Ange Postecoglou's men, who have now won seven and lost seven of their 16 top-flight matches. James Maddison opened the scoring in 36 seconds and further goals followed for Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Sarr in a staggering 25-minute spell.

England midfielder Maddison grabbed a second goal deep into first-half stoppage time to make it 5-0 but there were no additions in the second half.

Shortly after the match Southampton issued a statement saying they had made the "difficult decision to part ways" with Martin with the club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, nine points from safety.

Wolves, also in the relegation zone, fired O'Neil after a fourth straight defeat. In the early kick-off, Ismaila Sarr scored twice as Crystal Palace moved four points clear of the relegation zone following a 3-1 victory at Brighton.

Diogo Jota rescued Liverpool as the Premier League leaders recovered from Andy Robertson's early red card to snatch a 2-2 draw with Fulham, while Arsenal's title challenge was dented by a goalless stalemate against Everton on Saturday.

With just four minutes left at Anfield, Arne Slot's side were in danger of losing for just the second time in 15 top-flight games this season.&nbsp;

But Jota grabbed a valuable equaliser as Liverpool extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 matches since a loss to Nottingham Forest in September.

With last weekend's Merseyside derby at Everton postponed by severe weather, Liverpool have now gone two league games without a win following their 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

The Reds sit five points clear of second-placed Chelsea, who can close the gap with a win against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Liverpool were rocked in the 11th minute as Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira met Antonee Robinson's cross with an agile volley that deflected in off Robertson.

The Reds suffered another blow when Scotland left-back Robertson was sent off in the 17th minute for a professional foul on Harry Wilson.

But Slot's men have made a habit of coming from behind this season and Cody Gakpo equalised in the 47th minute with a stooping header from Mohamed Salah's cross.

The Dutch forward's ninth goal in all competitions this season was the prelude to a period of sustained Liverpool pressure.

But Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz delivered a sucker punch as he bundled over the line from Robinson's cross in the 76th minute.

That set the stage for a dramatic finale as Jota levelled in the 86th minute with a cool finish past Bernd Leno from the edge of the area.

"I don't think I could have asked for more from my players, especially after going down to 10 men," Slot said.

"It's an emotional game. It's good to see our performance after so many setbacks."

Arsenal failed to take advantage of Liverpool's rare stumble as the Gunners were kept at bay on a frustrating afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.

<h2>Lack of firepower</h2>

The north Londoners have become a force from set-pieces, scoring 23 goals from corners since the start of last season.

But their lack of firepower outside of that route has been questioned this season and once again they were hampered by a failure to turn pressure and possession into goals.

After a second successive league draw, third-placed Arsenal remain six points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand on last season's runners-up.

"We fully deserved to win the game," Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said. "It's Frustrating, especially when we concede zero chances and dominate the game so much."

Newcastle handed Ruud van Nistelrooy his first defeat as Leicester boss with a 4-0 rout at St James' Park.

Former Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy had taken four points from his first two games since replacing the sacked Steve Cooper.

But Newcastle ended that encouraging start as Jacob Murphy struck in the 30th minute and Bruno Guimaraes nodded the second goal in the 47th minute.

The Football Association is investigating further allegations Coote discussed betting on giving a yellow card with a fan before a match in England's second-tier Championship.

His final Premier League game was Liverpool's 2-0 win against Aston Villa on November 9.

West Ham stars Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek dedicated Monday's vital 2-1 win over Wolves to Michail Antonio as their team-mate recovers from a horrific car crash.

Hammers fans held a minute's applause for Antonio in the ninth minute to match his shirt number.

And on a night when Antonio was never far from West Ham's thoughts, Bowen celebrated his superb 72nd minute winner by holding aloft his team-mate's jersey.

"That meant everything. To share that moment, he's not here with us but I'm sure he was watching and the fans, you heard them. An emotional couple of days," Bowen said.

Soucek had put West Ham ahead before Matt Doherty's equaliser and the Czech midfielder admitted it was an emotional moment.

"The goal was for him. I dedicated it to him. I said before the game I really wanted to score even more today," Soucek said.&nbsp;

"He's been here since I came here. He is really my favourite. I said it would be tough for me to play without him.

"I'm happy that he is doing fine. He is a massive player and he is in my heart. It was really tough for us.&nbsp;

"I was so scared what was going to happen. It was a really tough week for him, his family and us."

Antonio, who had appeared in all of West Ham's Premier League games this term prior to the crash, is being monitored in hospital after his operation.
