Manchester City need to clear their heads during the upcoming international break and then return fit to play, manager Pep Guardiola said after his team's 2-1 loss at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion that stretched their losing run to four games.

Saturday's loss marked the first time City, second in the standings, have lost four matches in a row in all competitions since August 2006. Guardiola has now lost four successive matches for the first time in his otherwise glittering managerial career.

City have been rocked by injuries, with Nathan Ake, John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Ruben Dias all sidelined on Saturday, alongside longer-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb.

"Of course, it's November, we are not far away (from rival teams) in this position before the international break," Guardiola said. "(The key to) winning games is the people come back fit, the people come back and can play, can train, and then improve our results."

"(We need to) clear our heads, go into the international break, and for players to come back fit. The success that they had the last seasons were because we had fewer injuries. I would like the players to be consistent and be able to play at the level we played in the first half."

Erling Haaland scored in the 23rd minute and had a couple of narrow misses in a first half where City had five shots on target.

But Brighton were much improved in the second half against a sluggish City and substitutes Joao Pedro and Premier League debutant Matt O'Riley scored to secure the victory.

"So the first half we should, not open the game, it was open, but have the control, and we could not, and we are not at the level right now to sustain 90 minutes," said Guardiola. "In the first half, we were brilliant, but of course, the second half sometimes fatigue (kicks in) and they make changes and they change the pace, and we cannot do it right now and we lost the game."

City had previously lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup, Bournemouth in the league, and then suffered a 4-1 thrashing by Sporting in the Champions League on Tuesday that had Bernardo Silva saying City are in a "dark place."

"It's down to us as a group of players to make sure that we're fighting for this great club," captain Kyle Walker told Sky Sports. "It's tough to take, and I can assure you everyone wants to turn it around as quickly as possible."

Guardiola's second worst stretch as a manager was with Bayern Munich during the 2014-15 season, when they suffered three consecutive losses plus a penalty shootout defeat in the German Cup.

‘Clear your heads and return fitter from international break’ – Pep to City players after fourth straight loss

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is facing what would be an unwanted managerial first if his team loses their fourth consecutive game when they play at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

City were eliminated from the League Cup in a loss to Tottenham Hotspur, suffered a shock 2-1 league loss at Bournemouth and were then thrashed 4-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday by Portuguese side Sporting, coached by future Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

Yet Guardiola was optimistic City, who trail leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table by two points, can right the ship, saying they were solid in large stretches of their three losses.

"There always is a first time (to lose four straight), hopefully it is not the case," Guardiola told reporters. "Twenty minutes against Fulham we were not good, against Bournemouth we were not good, but the rest of the games we were good. We are good. We will see what happens."

While Guardiola has never lost four straight as a manager, City did go six games in a row without a win in his first season in charge in 2016-17.

The manager will not have Jack Grealish back from injury for Saturday, he said, despite interim England manager Lee Carsley naming Grealish in his squad for the upcoming international break.

John Stones and Ruben Dias, who were also absent on Tuesday, are not expected to return for their clash with Brighton.

"No good news," the manager said. "The same, I think, as Lisbon."

While City midfielder Bernardo Silva said the team are "in a dark place" after their humbling loss in Portugal, Guardiola said his players are not in any need of extra reassurance.

"I don't think so. Of course, we are not used to losing three games in three different competitions but it is football and it has happened," the Catalan said. "We know the reason why we struggle but we are looking forward to this game and after the international break, and after that a few players will be back and recovered. All the little problems we have with players will be solved. I hope."

With his managerial contract set to expire at the end of this season, Guardiola was asked whether he had a trip to Abu Dhabi to meet with City's owners planned for the international break.

"No," was all he would say on the subject.

Guardiola signed his last two contract extensions during November international breaks.

Pep Guardiola confident Manchester City will avoid fourth straight loss

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is not surprised by his team's fine start to the season, saying he was well aware of the strength of the side he was inheriting when he arrived at Anfield as Juergen Klopp's successor.

Slot's team, who have won 14 of 16 games across all competitions since he took charge, look to remain top of the Premier League table when they host Aston Villa on Saturday. Liverpool have a two-point lead over holders Manchester City.

They also top the Champions League table as the only team with four wins in four games.

"I don't think surprise is the right word to use because I knew the quality of our team," Slot told reporters on Friday. "But quality is one thing and consistency is another. I am not surprised because I saw the energy my players put in on a daily basis.

"Sometimes a bit of luck comes with that as well. Most of our results were deserved but some have been a close call," he added. "(Also) when I started working with them I saw how much effort they put in to get these results."

Slot does not expect forward Diogo Jota, who has not played since Liverpool's 2-1 win over Chelsea on Oct. 20 due to injury, to return until after the international break, but would not divulge any details about his injury, saying: "There is privacy about this.

"He will be back one or two games after the international break."

Curtis Jones, who was named in interim England manager Lee Carsley's squad for the upcoming international break, has shone for Liverpool in recent weeks, playing a sumptuous through ball for Luis Diaz to score in Tuesday's 4-0 Champions League rout of Bayer Leverkusen.

Slot said Jones has taken his game to another level since the birth of his daughter Giselle on October&nbsp;13.

"Since the moment he became a father, he started putting great performances in," Slot said. "He has a lot of qualities on the ball, when he has it he's never afraid to do something special," the Dutchman added. "Sometimes he is a bit too over-confident but confidence is important. He also has an incredibly high work-rate and we can trust him defensively."

Carsley included Jones in his previous two England squads but he has yet to make a senior appearance for his country. That could change when they travel to Athens to take on Greece on Thursday. England host Ireland three days later at Wembley.

‘I knew the quality of our team’ – Arne Slot unsurprised by Liverpool’s superb start to season

Former Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy should be paid the majority of the £11.5 million ($15 million) in wages withheld by the club after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021, a ruling by a UK judge said on Wednesday.

The ex-French international, who had earned £500,000 a month at the English Premier League Champions, took his case to an employment tribunal last month.

Mendy claimed he had been assured by a senior club official he would receive his unpaid wages once he is cleared of the charges.

The 30-year-old defender, who now plays for French Ligue 2 club Lorient, was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in January 2023, but the same jury could not reach a verdict on another count of rape and one count of attempted rape.

After a retrial, Mendy was found not guilty of both charges.

Employment judge Joanne Dunlop said in a ruling she had concluded that Mendy was "entitled to recover some, but not all of the sums claimed".

She said that while Mendy was not in custody, he had been "ready and willing" to work.

In those circumstances and in the absence of "any authorisation in the contract for the employer to withhold pay he was entitled to be paid", she added.

Welcoming the ruling, Mendy said he was "delighted".

He said he hoped the "club will now do the honourable thing and pay the outstanding amounts... so I can put this difficult part of my life behind me".

Mendy spent two periods in custody, which accounted for approximately five months of the 22-month period covered by his claim, meaning the amount owed is likely to be around £8.5 million.

According to tribunal documents, Mendy "very quickly ran out of money" due to the non-payment of his wages, forcing him to sell his £4.8-million mansion to cover legal fees, bills, and child support payments.

The exact amount he will now receive is due to be calculated by Mendy and the club -- or by the tribunal if they are unable to reach an agreement.

The club continued paying Mendy's salary following his first arrest in November 2020.

But they argued they did not have to after he was charged because of his bail conditions and a Football Association suspension meant he was not able to perform his duties as a player.

Man City told to pay majority of Benjamin Mendy's unpaid wages

Harry Wilson struck twice in stoppage time to give Fulham a dramatic 2-1 victory over west London rivals Brentford on Monday. Vitaly Janelt had blasted the Bees in front against the run of play midway through the first half. Fulham were frustrated until added time when substitute Wilson flicked home the equaliser and then head in a winner at the death.

"It was an amazing feeling to come on and get the two goals to win the game. We deserved it, we kept them pinned in throughout," said Wilson.

Victory lifts Marco Silva's men up to ninth and just three points off the top four. Brentford had been headed for the top half themselves until the late turnaround, but instead remain in 12th.

Fulham failed to make the most of a purposeful start as Reiss Nelson was denied by Mark Flekken. Brentford had barely threatened prior to going in front on 24 minutes when Janelt took aim from distance and fired a blistering shot past Bernd Leno.

Emile Smith Rowe wasted a big chance to reply immediately and the home side struggled to break through Brentford's mass ranks of defence after half-time. It took until Fulham's 25th attempt on goal to beat Flekken, as Wilson's inventive effort looped over the Dutch goalkeeper from Adama Traore's cross.

Moments later, the Welsh international had a fortuitous second. Wilson's attempted header came off his shoulder to wrong-foot Flekken and flew into the top corner.

"They both went in but not how I would have wanted!" Wilson added. "The first one I just helped it on to the back post and the second one was more lucky. "I was trying to head it into the other corner but it hit my shoulder and went in."

Premier League: Fulham strike twice in stoppage time to beat Brentford

Moises Caicedo's strike denied Manchester United victory in their first Premier League game since sacking Erik ten Hag as Chelsea claimed a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday. Interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, who will be replaced by Ruben Amorim later his month, sprinted down the touchline in celebration after Bruno Fernandes put United in front from the penalty spot 20 minutes from time.

Caicedo quickly replied for the Blues, who edge above Arsenal on goal difference into fourth place in the table. A point leaves United still down in 13th, six points off the top four.

The Red Devils' return of just 12 points from 10 games is United's worst start to a league campaign since 1986/87.

Amorim was not in attendance as he prepares to take charge of Sporting Lisbon for the one of the final times against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday. United were far more competitive than in 3-0 demolitions by Liverpool and Tottenham at home this season, but showed many of the same flaws that cost Ten Hag his job.

Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a 5-2 demolition of an under-strength Leicester in his first match in charge to reach the League Cup quarter-finals in midweek. Still a hero among the United fans from his days as a prolific striker, the Dutchman's name was chanted in a buoyant pre-match atmosphere.

However, a Chelsea side that have lost once in nine Premier League games, provided a much stiffer test for a United side still short on confidence. Both sides hit the woodwork in a disappointing first 45 minutes as Noni Madueke hit the post from a corner before Marcus Rashford clipped the bar with a cushioned volley in the last action of the half.

Pedro Neto's burst of pace nearly gave Chelsea a dream start to the second period but the Portuguese winger's shot flew just past the far post. However, the Blues remain overly reliant on Cole Palmer for inspiration.

The boyhood United fan, who began his career at Manchester City before joining Chelsea last year, was kept quiet by Van Nistelrooy's pairing of Casemiro alongside Manuel Ugarte in midfield.

<h2>- 'Results will come' -</h2>

Before kick-off only Southampton had scored fewer than United's eight Premier League goals in nine games this season. The lack of efficiency in front of goal that Ten Hag often bemoaned was in evidence again.

"Over the last games we played we lost some points where we didn't convert our chances," said Van Nistelrooy, who is set to take charge of two more games. "When you create a lot, all through the season so far, I'm not too worried the players will get in a flow with results and confidence growing. Results will come."

Alejandro Garnacho wasted a glorious chance to open the scoring from Fernandes' cut-back with a tame effort that looped into the arms of Robert Sanchez.

United were gifted the chance to break the deadlock when Sanchez clipped Rasmus Hojlund inside the box. Fernandes kept his cool to send the Spanish international goalkeeper the wrong way and spark wild celebrations from Van Nistelrooy.

United's joy was short-lived as Chelsea hit back within four minutes. A corner was only cleared to the edge of the box, where Caicedo connected a sweet strike to fire into the bottom corner.

Caicedo cost a British transfer record £115 million ($149 million) when he joined Chelsea just over a year ago and is beginning to deliver on that investment after a difficult first season.

"Since we arrived Moi is doing fantastic," said Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. "The problem with Moi is because the club paid big money, people expect them to be the best. It is normal to be a bit up and down. We are trying to improve him and he is showing how good he is."

Chelsea should have struck again moments later when substitute Enzo Fernandez spooned over with Andre Onana stranded. But it was United who came closest in a frantic finale when Garnacho's acrobatic effort flew just over.

SPURS DOMINATE ASTON VILLA

Dominic Solanke scored twice as&nbsp;Tottenham&nbsp;blitzed Aston Villa in the second half on Sunday, winning 4-1 to move just two points behind their rivals for a top-four finish in the Premier League. Shortly after the break, Brennan Johnson cancelled out Morgan Rogers' first-half opener for Villa, before a cascade of home goals late in the game at&nbsp;Tottenham&nbsp;Hotspur Stadium.

Solanke produced a delicate dinked finish to put Spurs ahead in the 75th minute and scored another from close range before James Maddison added gloss with a sumptious free kick deep into stoppage time.

The result lifts Ange Postecoglou's men to seventh in the table on 16 points -- two behind Villa, who missed the chance to climb into third spot.

The Spurs boss, whose side lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace last week, said his men had shown they had "other gears" in the second half, praising Solanke for his performance. "His goals are unbelievable but his general play, his work-rate, I can't speak highly enough of him," he told Sky Sports.

"Seven days is a long time in football. Seven days ago I was a grumpy old so and so. We have to say true to the course we're on. "We made sure not to feel sorry for ourselves and are back to the team we want to be."

Villa players wore training tops reading "Fuerza Valencia" during the warm-up, in solidarity with the victims of the deadly floods in Spain, the home country of Villa boss Unai Emery, who has managed Valencia.

Also read: Dino Olmo double helps Liga leaders Barcelona to derby win vs Espanyol - 'Results will come' - Before kick-off only Southampton had scored fewer than United's eight Premier League goals in nine games this season. Results will come." Alejandro Garnacho wasted a glorious chance to open the scoring from Fernandes' cut-back with a tame effort that looped into the arms of Robert Sanchez. We are trying to improve him and he is showing how good he is." Chelsea should have struck again moments later when substitute Enzo Fernandez spooned over with Andre Onana stranded. But it was United who came closest in a frantic finale when Garnacho's acrobatic effort flew just over. SPURS DOMINATE ASTON VILLA Dominic Solanke scored twice as Tottenham blitzed Aston Villa in the second half on Sunday, winning 4-1 to move just two points behind their rivals for a top-four finish in the Premier League. Shortly after the break, Brennan Johnson cancelled out Morgan Rogers' first-half opener for Villa, before a cascade of home goals late in the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. "We made sure not to feel sorry for ourselves and are back to the team we want to be." Villa players wore training tops reading "Fuerza Valencia" during the warm-up, in solidarity with the victims of the deadly floods in Spain, the home country of Villa boss Unai Emery, who has managed Valencia. Manchester United off to worst Premier League start following 1-1 draw vs Chelsea

Manchester City suffered their first Premier League loss since December as Bournemouth stunned the champions, while Arsenal were rocked by Newcastle and Liverpool seized top spot on Saturday.

City were unbeaten in their previous 32 league games dating back to a defeat at Aston Villa last year.

But Pep Guardiola's second-placed side saw that streak came to an unexpected end in a 2-1 loss on England's south coast.&nbsp;

The Cherries had never beaten City in their 21 previous meetings, losing 19 of those matches, yet Andoni Iraola's team sprang a huge upset to derail the champions' push for a fifth successive title.

Bournemouth recently damaged Arsenal's title hopes with a 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium and they inflicted pain on City as well.

Guardiola had claimed City faced an injury "emergency" after they suffered fitness problems in Wednesday's League Cup defeat at Tottenham.

But Manuel Akanji, Kyle Walker and Josko Gvardiol all started against Bournemouth after injury doubts, with Kevin De Bruyne, Savinho and Jeremy Doku fit enough to be named among the substitutes.

Exhausted or not, City were rocked in the ninth minute when Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo drilled Milos Kerkez's cross past Ederson from inside the area.

Guardiola's men were unable to muster a response to that blow and Evanilson doubled Bournemouth's lead in the 64th minute with a composed finish from Kerkez's cross.

Gvardiol's header reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute, but it was too late to save City from a second defeat in four days.

Newcastle put a huge dent in fourth-placed Arsenal's title aspirations with a 1-0 win at St James' Park.

Alexander Isak netted in the 12th minute, heading home Anthony Gordon's pinpoint cross.

Injury-hit Arsenal struggled to get out of first gear and produced just one shot on target in the entire game.

Mikel Arteta's team, runners-up to City for the past two years, have taken just one point from their last three games as their push for a first title since 2004 was derailed by a second league defeat this term.

"Today we weren't our best version. It's about how you react to that. We're not going to find the right words or answers to describe how we feel," said Arteta, whose side are seven points adrift of first place.

<h2>Liverpool's late power surge</h2>

At Anfield, Liverpool were in danger of a surprise loss of their own before regrouping to take advantage of their rivals' stumbles with a 2-1 win over Brighton.

Ferdi Kadioglu gave Brighton the lead in the 14th minute with a fierce strike that cannoned in off the post after Danny Welbeck flicked on Kaoru Mitoma's cross.

But Liverpool had beaten Brighton in the League Cup last 16 in midweek and they repeated the trick thanks to a late revival.

Cody Gakpo bagged the equaliser in the 70th minute with a cross that looped straight into the net.

Two minutes later, Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead, the Egypt forward curling a fine finish into the top corner for his ninth goal this season.

In Arne Slot's first season in charge, Liverpool are two points clear of City after their eighth win in 10 league games.

Nottingham Forest are up to third place after beating 10-man West Ham 3-0 to make it three consecutive top-flight victories for the first time since 1999.

Chris Wood grabbed his eighth goal in 10 league games as the New Zealand striker headed home after 27 minutes.

West Ham had Edson Alvarez sent off in first-half stoppage-time for two bookings.

Callum Hudson-Odoi struck in the 65th minute and Ola Aina sealed the points 12 minutes from full-time at the City Ground.

Jordan Ayew's stoppage-time equaliser denied Ipswich their first top-flight win since 2002 as Leicester rescued a 1-1 draw at Portman Road.

Leif Davis's 55th-minute volley put Ipswich ahead but the hosts had Kalvin Phillips sent off in the 77th minute.

Ayew levelled with seconds left to leave third-bottom Ipswich winless after 10 games.

Second-bottom Southampton earned their first league win this season as Adam Armstrong's 85th-minute strike sealed a 1-0 success against Everton.

Premier League: Man City suffer first league loss in 2024; Liverpool win against Brighton

Ruben Amorim revealed Friday that he was told by Manchester United "it was now or never" after being handed a brief midway through the season to restore the struggling Premier League giants to the pinnacle of English and European football.

The 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon coach quickly emerged as the hot favourite for the Old Trafford job after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday following a terrible start to the season.

Amorim has signed a deal until 2027 and will join the club on November 11, becoming the sixth permanent manager since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Amorim admitted in his first news conference since being given the job that he had endured a whirlwind few days.

"The only question I made was to go at the end of the season," Amorim said. "But I was told it was now or never. I had three days to make the decision. That's what I did.

"If I rejected it now, in six months I would not have got it. I didn't want to regret making this decision."

Amorim added that he had been approached by other clubs, one of which had offered him "three times" the windfall he would enjoy at United.

United described Amorim as "one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football".

"Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP -- the first of which was the club's first title in 19 years," a club statement said.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in temporary charge until Amorim arrives at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese coach will oversee Sporting's remaining matches before the international break, which started with a 5-1 rout of Estrela on Friday, the club's 10th win in 10 league games this season.

Sporting host Manchester City in the Champions League next Tuesday and Amorim's final game in charge is set to be against former club Braga in the league on November 10.

He will take charge of United for the first time on November 24, away at relegation-threatened Ipswich.

Sporting said in a statement United would pay the Portuguese club 11 million euros ($12 million) over Amorim's departure.

United sacked Ten Hag on Monday after a 2-1 defeat by West Ham left them languishing 14th in the Premier League, with just three wins from nine matches despite a huge financial outlay.

The three-time European champions are 21st out of 36 teams in the revamped Europa League after three draws in their three matches so far this season.

<h2>Top target</h2>

Prior to Wednesday's 5-2 win against Leicester in the fourth round of the League Cup, United had won just one of their past eight games in all competitions.

Ten Hag won the League Cup and FA Cup during his two full seasons at Old Trafford but the club have not won the Premier League since 2013.

Ferguson won the Premier League title 13 times during a stay of nearly 27 years but the 20-time English champions have not mounted a sustained title challenge since.

Former United striker Van Nistelrooy said Thursday he was "motivated" to help turn United's season around and wants to stay at the club as he prepares the players for a high-profile match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Amorim, a former Portugal midfielder, started his managerial career with then third-tier Casa Pia in 2018 before a switch to Braga.

Sporting swooped in 2020 and he won the club's first league title in 19 years in his first full season in charge, repeating the feat last season.

Seen as one of the rising stars on the European coaching scene, he was linked with the manager's role at Liverpool once Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving but Dutch coach Arne Slot headed to Anfield instead.

Amorim held talks with West Ham this year before they appointed former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand said Amorim has the "character and the charisma" that Ten Hag lacked.

Ten Hag meanwhile thanked United fans Friday night saying "my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet".

"Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end," he said in a statement. "I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home. Thank you for this chapter in my life. Erik."

‘It’s now or never’ - Ruben Amorim reveals how he signed up for Manchester United in three days

Ruud van Nistelrooy is well aware that his interim manager stint at Manchester United will be a short one, but the Dutchman said on Thursday that he expected to still be in charge for this weekend's Premier League clash at home to Chelsea.

Former United striker Van Nistelrooy stepped up from his assistant coach role at the club after the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, and Sporting coach Ruben Amorim is widely expected to be installed as manager at Old Trafford very soon.

The temporary coach got off to a winning start with a 5-2 League Cup quarter-final win over visitors Leicester City on Wednesday, and at Thursday's press conference it was suggested he will still be there for the game with Chelsea on Sunday.

"I am guessing that too, so yes, it's going to be a short job as an interim, that was communicated very clear and I was happy with that," Van Nistelrooy told reporters.

"Obviously, it was difficult that Erik had to leave, I was very disappointed, with very mixed feelings about that, but you have to switch the mindset to win because 75,000 people are waiting and celebrating and millions are watching at home."

While the 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy accepts his new job will be a short-lived one, he plans to return to his previous role once a new manager is installed.

"I decided to come back here for a very important reason. I came as an assistant to help the club forward and I'm still very motivated to do so in any capacity," he said. "As an assistant, and now as an interim manager, and after that I go back to my assistant contract that I have here for this season and next.

"I'm very motivated to stay here and help the club forward, that's my absolute goal. I can speak to you about my side of the story and after, when the new manager is signed and conversations take place, we have to see how things develop."

Van Nistelrooy, while upset about the departure of compatriot Ten Hag, knows in this job it is results that matter.

United finished a disappointing eighth last season and, while an FA Cup final win over Manchester City may have helped prolong Ten Hag's stay, four losses in the opening nine league games leaving his side 14th ultimately proved his downfall.

"In the end, it is also clear in football that it is the results and Erik also said, in pre-season we had new staff and all were very positive and all working hard to bring the club forward," Van Nistelrooy said.

"There are things you can't explain sometimes. So many games we felt we could get a better result, talking Crystal Palace, West Ham, Porto, Fenerbahce (in the Europa League), but we also know it is about results and that is part of our job."

Talks are reportedly ongoing between United and Sporting, with Amorim saying he will not provide any news until after his side's next game on Friday, and Van Nistelrooy too was giving nothing away when asked about the Portuguese coach.

"Is he already announced? So, we don't know," the interim manager said. "Again, what the future will bring, we will see."

PL: Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay in charge of Manchester United’s home game against Chelsea

English Premier League (PL) club Manchester United have sacked manager Erik Ten Hag following dismal start of the season. The decision came Monday (Oct 28) after United lost 1-2 to West Ham on Sunday (Oct 27) and dropped to 14th place on the table. It was their fourth&nbsp;loss of the season with only three wins and two draws to their name.

Premier League: Manchester United sack Erik ten Hag as manager following dismal start of season

Mohamed Salah's late equaliser earned Liverpool a 2-2 draw with rivals Arsenal in an entertaining Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber limped off to add to the Gunners' injury woes.

Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead in the ninth minute when he ran on to Ben White's ball over the top, cut inside Andy Robertson and fired past Caoimhin Kelleher at his near post for a 50th Premier League goal on his return from injury.

Virgil van Dijk, perhaps fortunate to avoid a card for a petulant kick at Kai Havertz in the opening exchanges, equalised nine minutes later, nodding home a Luis Diaz flick-on from a corner.

"I think to come back twice is a good thing, and we take the point and we move (on)," Van Dijk told Sky Sports.

Arsenal responded positively and spurned several half-chances, with Saka hitting a shot over the bar and Havertz unable to control Gabriel Martinelli's dangerous ball across the face of goal.

The home fans wanted a penalty just after the half-hour mark when Ibrahima Konate floored Martinelli with a clumsy challenge, but referee Anthony Taylor deemed he got enough of the ball, with Havertz slicing a volley over the top in the aftermath.

Mikel Merino scored his first Arsenal goal just before half-time, meeting Declan Rice's free-kick with a bullet header that was upheld after a lengthy VAR review for offside.

Liverpool improved after the break and Diaz went close five minutes after the restart following a mazy run along the touchline.

<h2>Arsenal ‘very disappointed’</h2>

Gabriel limped off early in the second half, replaced by Jakub Kiwior, as Arsenal sustained another injury to a key player. Recent returnee Timber followed him off later.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will hope to soon welcome back captain Martin Odegaard, who has been out since September but said in the matchday programme that he is close to a return.

The hosts had to withstand considerable periods of pressure, though they threatened on the counter as Liverpool left gaps at the back.

Salah levelled the game in the 81st minute with a calm tap-in from Darwin Nunez's selfless cross, putting the Egyptian winger eighth on the all-time list and level with Robbie Fowler on 163 career Premier League goals.

The momentum seemed to be with Liverpool to clinch a comeback victory but Arsenal had the ball in the net at the death through a combination of Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, though referee Taylor had already blown for a foul.

Asked about the incident, Arteta said he did not know why a foul had been given in the build-up and declined to comment further.

The draw puts Liverpool second with 22 points from nine games, one point behind Manchester City, and Arsenal move into third with 18 points.

Arteta told reporters he was "very disappointed" his side did not win, but said: "Very proud of the team, especially with the situation that we are going through at the moment."

He added that he would prefer to be five points ahead of City rather than five behind, though he said: "The team is alive, the team wants it."

Liverpool's head coach Arne Slot said that, on balance, he was happy: "Going two times behind against a very strong and good Arsenal team, then to get a point is pleasing to see."

Premier League: Mohamed Salah’s late strike earns Liverpool a draw at Arsenal as Manchester City back on top

West Ham piled more pressure on beleaguered Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag with a dramatic 2-1 win on Sunday as Cole Palmer inspired Chelsea to a victory by the same scoreline over Newcastle.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 at Crystal Palace, who picked up their first win of the season.

Liverpool can go back to the top of the table with victory away at Arsenal in the biggest clash of the Premier League weekend later on Sunday.

Ten Hag was left to rue a familiar lack of ruthlessness as United's fourth league defeat in nine games will spark further speculation on how long he will be given to turn the Red Devils' fortunes around.

The visitors should have been out of sight by half-time at the London Stadium.

Alejandro Garnacho hit the woodwork inside two minutes and Edson Alvarez also headed off his own crossbar.

But it was Diogo Dalot who missed the biggest chance when the Portuguese international somehow fired over with the goal gaping after rounding Lukasz Fabianski.

Under-fire West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui showed his disgust with the Hammers' first-half display by making three substitutions at the break.

Crysencio Summerville was one of those introduced and he slid in to open the scoring against the run of play on 74 minutes.

Casemiro brought United level nine minutes from time with a header from point-blank range.

But there was late drama when VAR intervened for a foul on Danny Ings by Matthijs de Ligt.

Jarrod Bowen smashed in the resulting spot-kick to take West Ham above United, who sink to 14th in the table.&nbsp;

Chelsea had been beaten in the Premier League for the first time since Enzo Maresca's first match in charge at Liverpool last weekend despite an impressive performance.

The Blues got back to winning ways with Palmer at the heart of their best work.

The England international had a goal marginally ruled out for offside inside the first five minutes.

Palmer was the creator for the opening goal, despite not being credited with the assist, as his sumptuous ball over the top freed Pedro Neto, who picked out Nicolas Jackson to slot in his sixth goal of the season.

Newcastle are now winless in five league games as the pressure mounts on Eddie Howe ahead of a rematch against Chelsea in the League Cup on Wednesday.

The Magpies did get back on level terms before half-time as Alexander Isak tapped in Lewis Hall's cross at the end of a well-worked move.

Palmer took just two minutes into the second period to make the decisive impact with a driving run forward and powerful finish that beat Nick Pope at his near post.

Newcastle should have left London with a point, though, as Isak botched a huge chance to level 15 minutes from time after rounding Robert Sanchez.

Palace began the day in the relegation zone but were good value for the three points at Selhurst Park as Tottenham's struggles on the road continue.

Eberechi Eze's deft flick teed up Jean-Philippe Mateta to fire home the only goal.

Eze had a second ruled out for offside in the second half, but Tottenham, without injured captain Son Heung-min, were toothless in attack.

Spurs have won just once in five away league games this season as they slip to eighth, four points off the top four.

Premier League: West Ham beat Manchester United, Cole Palmer helps Chelsea win over Newcastle

Erling Haaland fired Manchester City to the top of the Premier League as the striker sealed a 1-0 win against Southampton, while third-placed Aston Villa were frustrated by Bournemouth's last-gasp leveller on Saturday (Oct 26).

Haaland had gone three league games without a goal but he ended that mini drought in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

That was enough to lift Pep Guardiola's side into first place, two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool, who can regain pole position if they win Sunday's blockbuster clash with title rivals Arsenal.

City have not lost a league game at the Etihad for two years, a run encompassing 35 games, and bottom of the table Southampton, who have only one point from nine games this season, were never likely to shatter that impressive streak.

With Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku ruled out, Guardiola made four changes to the team that thrashed Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Haaland had scored an audacious goal against Sparta and while his effort to kill off Southampton was more prosaic, it was arguably far more valuable given the context of a tense title race.

Matheus Nunes's cross reached Haaland in the fifth minute and the Norwegian showed strength and desire to get to the ball ahead of his marker for a close-range strike.

City spurned several chances to increase their lead but Haaland's 14th goal in all competitions this season gave the unbeaten champions seven wins from nine league matches as they chase a fifth successive title.

"The way Southampton played, they are so demanding. Big credit to them, it was not because we were sloppy or flat. I don't have that feeling," Guardiola said.

"We created chances and unfortunately couldn't score the second. I think we were there and sometimes they are good. We have to accept that."

Aston Villa's hopes of pushing for the title suffered a setback as Bournemouth snatched a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Villa are unbeaten in the Champions League, sitting top of the table after seeing off Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna.

But they couldn't follow their latest European success with a domestic victory despite taking the lead in the 76th minute.

Ian Maatsen crossed and Leon Bailey teed up Ross Barkley to hook in his first goal for the club.

But Evanilson rescued Bournemouth with the headed equaliser six minutes into stoppage-time.

<h2>Wolves fightback</h2>

Brentford beat fourth-bottom Ipswich 4-3 in a thrilling clash in west London.

Ipswich's Sam Szmodics produced a fine finish from 15 yards in the 28th minute before George Hirst clipped a composed strike past Mark Flekken three minutes later.

But Yoane Wissa netted in the 44th minute and Harry Clarke's own goal seconds later hauled Brentford level.&nbsp;

Bryan Mbeumo's 51st-minute penalty, awarded for Clarke's foul on Keane Lewis-Potter, put Brentford 3-2 up.

Capping a miserable day for Clarke, he was sent off in the closing stages after fouling Lewis-Potter to earn a second booking.

Liam Delap's 86th-minute equaliser appeared to have spared Clarke's blushes, but Mbeumo snatched victory with the last kick of stoppage-time.

Second-bottom Wolves staged a superb fightback to draw 2-2 at fifth-placed Brighton.

Danny Welbeck bagged his sixth goal of the season in first-half stoppage-time and Evan Ferguson struck with a clinical finish from Tariq Lamptey's 85th-minute cross to leave Brighton in control.

But Rayan Ait-Nouri got one back three minutes later and Matheus Cunha saved winless Wolves from a sixth successive league defeat with a deflected equaliser deep into stoppage-time.

Everton face Fulham in Saturday's late game at Goodison Park.

Premier League: Erling Haaland fires Man City to top; Aston Villa, Brighton held in thrillers

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood profited from an error by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson to give his side a narrow 1-0 Premier League win on Monday that leaves the visitors still without a victory this campaign. Forest led 20 minutes into the second half when Wood's low strike from 25 yards beat Henderson at his near post, the latter getting a weak hand to the ball as it squirmed past him and into the net.

Palace twice hit the woodwork but in truth created little in a game that pitted the second best defence in the league against its worst attack, with the London club managing a paltry five goals in their eight games to date.

Forest, who were without manager Nuno Espirito Santo as he serves a touchline ban, rose to eighth place in the table with 13 points from their eight matches, while Palace languish in 18th, still without a win and three points to their name.

"I was just trying to hit the target, I had a few chances in the first half that didn't go my way," Wood said of his goal. "It is important we keep going and keep looking forward. We have a big game on Friday (at Leicester City)."

The victory is Forest’s first at home in eight matches in all competitions dating back to April, while Palace have failed to win one of their first eight games of the season for the first time since the 1992-93 campaign.

A mazy run from Forest’s Elliot Anderson's took him past four defenders in the box but his shot was not strong enough to beat Henderson.

At the other end, Eddie Nketiah unleashed a shot from 25-yards that struck the outside of the post.

Forest midfielder Ryan Yates saw his looping header come back off the woodwork, while Wood could not steer a superb Callum Hudson-Odoi cross into the goal after a tame connection a few yards out.

Henderson’s error allowed Forest to take the lead before Eberechi Eze forced a superb save from Sels when his swerving 30-yard strike was pushed onto the crossbar by the keeper.

"I can't fault anyone," Palace defender Marc Guehi said. "Everyone put effort into that game. At the moment nothing's going for us. We have to go back, keep working and stick together.

"We're creating chances but any slight mistake gets punished. You have to keep fighting to get better."

Premier League: Chris Wood winner for Nottingham Forest adds more misery on poor Crystal Palace

Virgil van Dijk said he is in "discussions with the right people" over his Liverpool future as the club captain moves into the final months of his contract.

The Dutchman is one of a number of high-profile players at Anfield whose deals expire at the end of the season, with uncertainty also surrounding the futures of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As it stands, the trio will be able to discuss pre-contract terms with overseas clubs from January, but Van Dijk said he is in talks over extending his stay at Anfield.

"What the future brings I have no idea at the moment... discussions are ongoing with the right people and when it's time to make a decision or whatever, I think you guys (the media) will know it as well," he said. "But now full commitment and focus is on Liverpool and to be successful this season. So, we will see."

So, we will see." Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk confirms discussions over contract extension underway ‘with right people’

Arne Slot said Liverpool passed the hardest test of his time in charge as a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield moved the Reds back top of the Premier League on Sunday. Mohamed Salah's penalty and Curtis Jones' winner made it 10 wins in 11 games since Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp.

Nicolas Jackson briefly levelled for Chelsea, who enjoyed nearly 60 percent possession, but they slipped to a first league defeat since losing to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season. Victory takes Liverpool one point ahead of City and four clear of Arsenal, who they face at the Emirates next weekend.

"Many other games were hard but this might have been the hardest because of the amount of quality players they have and the structure they have," said Slot. "We had to fight really hard to get this one over the line."

Chelsea are now seven points off the top down in sixth, but there was plenty cause for optimism for the Blues from a performance that stretched Liverpool to their limits.

"We lost, we are not happy, but the performance with and without the ball was very good," said Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. "I've been in this stadium many times and to see Liverpool in their (half) for a long time is not easy."

Liverpool's only defeat under Slot came to Nottingham Forest following September's international break.

<h2>- Jones makes his mark -</h2>

The Dutchman responded by this time leaving all of his South American internationals -- Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez -- on the bench after their exertions in recent days across the Atlantic. The decision to hand Jones just his second league start of the season proved an inspired one as the England international won Liverpool's penalty and scored the decisive goal.

Chelsea settled nicely into their rhythm and pushed the home side back by dominating the ball in the opening half hour. However, Liverpool's pace on the break was a constant threat and Chelsea were caught out when Salah fed Jones, who was chopped down by Levi Colwill.

Salah slammed home his 10th goal against his former club from the resulting penalty. Moments later, Cody Gakpo slotted in at the end of a lightning Liverpool counter-attack, but Salah had strayed offside before delivering the assist.

At the other end, Jackson smashed off the angle of post and bar in the first sign that Chelsea had some punch to their possession football. Chelsea, though, had another escape just before half-time when referee John Brooks intially pointed to the spot once more when Jones went down under a challenge from Robert Sanchez.

VAR intervened, however, as the Spanish goalkeeper got a touch on the ball before making contact with Jones. Within three minutes of the restart for the second half, the Blues were back level as VAR played another helping hand for the visitors.

Jackson latched onto Moises Caicedo's through ball and coolly slotted past Caoimhin Kelleher for his fifth goal in eight Premier League games.

The Senegalese striker was ruled offside on the field, but was shown to be played on by Ibrahima Konate on replay. Liverpool took just three minutes to restore their lead as Jones timed his run perfectly to control and flick in Salah's cross.

Chelsea forced Slot's men to defend their lead for the final 40 minutes but struggled to create clear-cut chances for the equaliser until seven minutes of stoppage time. Renato Vega headed over Cole Palmer's free-kick before Christopher Nkunku failed to get a telling touch to Pedro Neto's teasing cross.

Premier League: Liverpool pass Chelsea test to reclaim top spot

Manchester City snatched a controversial 2-1 win at Wolves as John Stones' last-gasp goal was given after a VAR review to send the champions to the top of the Premier League on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's side trailed to Jorgen Strand Larsen's surprise opener for Wolves early in the first half.

Josko Gvardiol dragged City back on level terms before the interval and, with just seconds left in stoppage-time, Stones headed the visitors to a dramatic sixth win in eight league games this season.

Bottom of the table Wolves claimed Stones' goal should have been disallowed for offside and interference by Bernardo Silva on keeper Jose Sa.

But referee Chris Kavanagh ignored their protests after consulting the pitchside monitor.

City are two points clear of previous leaders Liverpool, who can reclaim pole position with a victory against Chelsea later on Sunday.

Chasing a fifth successive English title, Guardiola's men have set a new club record as their unbeaten run in the league reached 31 games since their loss to Aston Villa in December.

In English top-flight history, only six times has a side gone more than 30 matches without losing, most recently Liverpool's run of 44 games from 2019 to 2020.

City are undefeated in 11 games in all competitions this season after avenging last season's 2-1 defeat on their previous visit to Wolves.

The champions were rocked after just seven minutes when Nelson Semedo's pin-point low cross reached Strand Larsen at the far post and the striker eluded Stones for a simple close-range finish.

Erling Haaland is the most celebrated Norway striker but his international team-mate had stolen the spotlight from him for once.

It was the fifth time in seven league games that City had fallen behind.

They nearly hit back immediately as Ilkay Gundogan's dummy gave Silva space for a low shot from 12 yards that was pushed away by Sa.

Unusually sloppy at the back, Guardiola's side were almost breached again when Semedo sprinted through a gaping hole in the visitors' defence, only to be denied by Ederson's save.

<h2>City relief</h2>

Guardiola was a picture of frustration as he prowled and scowled on the touchline.

Savinho's air-shot drew mocking cheers from Wolves fans, but Gvardiol silenced the locals in the 33rd minute.

Taking possession on the edge of the Wolves area, the Croatian defender looked up to set his sights before unleashing a superb curler that whistled into the top corner.

Gvardiol's fifth goal in his last seven away league games was the prelude to a period of City pressure that kept Wolves penned inside their own area until half-time.

Haaland had scored eight goals in his four previous league appearances against Wolves, averaging a goal once every 40 minutes.

He was far more anonymous this time and it took 49 minutes before he finally had a chance, which the 24-year-old squandered with a complete miskick from eight yards.

Faced with Wolves' massed defence, City centre-back Ruben Dias tried his luck with a 25-yard drive that was well saved by Sa.

Matheus Cunha was close to putting Wolves back ahead against the run of play with a fizzing drive that was just off target.

Gundogan's free-kick deflected wide and Jack Grealish's drive was held by Sa as City kept probing away before finally snatching the winner.

Stones rose to head home from a corner, with Silva initially blocking Sa's view and briefly making contact with the keeper before ducking down as the ball flew past him.

The goal was initially disallowed but VAR told Kavanagh to check the pitchside monitor and he overturned his decision as Guardiola and his players danced a relieved jig of delight.

Premier League: John Stones bags controversial winner as Man City survive Wolves scare

Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal's shock 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth was an "accident waiting to happen" as William Saliba's red card condemned them to a first Premier League loss since April.

Arteta's title-chasing side played for an hour with 10 men after French defender Saliba was dismissed for a professional foul on Evanilson.

Referee Rob Jones initially showed Saliba a yellow card but the punishment was upgraded to a red after VAR intervened.

It was the third time Arsenal had a player sent off in the league this season after Declan Rice saw red against Brighton and Leandro Trossard was dismissed at Manchester City.

Arteta conceded the disciplinary problems were making it harder to win, with Arsenal taking just two points from the three games played with 10 men.

"It's very difficult to win in the Premier League with 10 men for 60 minutes. It's just an accident waiting to happen. We have had to go through it in three games and that cost us the game," he said. "We had the big chance and the moment in the game to score and have a different result and then we conceded a goal.

"We try to stick to the rules. The three red cards have been different ones and three very different outcomes."

Beaten in the league for the first time since Aston Villa's 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium last season, Arsenal's loss cost them the chance to go above Liverpool at the top of the table.

Arteta acknowledged his third-placed team were below their best for long periods at the Vitality Stadium.

"The team tried, the effort with 10 men was fantastic but today it was not enough to win the game," he said. "It took us a while to understand what we had do in the first 15 minutes, then we grabbed the game but after 30 minutes the game changed."

Arsenal midfielder Rice was even more honest in his assessment of the lethargic performance.

Trossard's wayward pass was the trigger for Saliba's dismissal as the centre-back was forced to make a panicked tug on Evanilson.

It was a careless mistake by Trossard and Rice said Arsenal must stamp out that kind of blunder if they want to mount another title challenge.

"We've kicked ourselves in the foot three times in eight games and we got away with it at home to Brighton and away at Manchester City. Bournemouth kept probing and made it 2-0," Rice said. "I'm proud of the players for fighting, even with 10 men, but the naivety, we need to stop making mistakes because you want 11 players for 90 minutes and that's what wins you football matches.

"We can't make silly mistakes. You need all your best players on the pitch at all times. The belief is so high and we will stick together."

Premier League: Arsenal’s first loss this season was ‘accident waiting to happen’, says boss Arteta

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is not disturbed by the growing speculation around his future at the Premier League club and is fully focused on matters on the pitch, head coach Arne Slot said.

The 26-year-old England right back has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid with his Liverpool contract running out at the end of the season. Alexander-Arnold last month said his contract situation will not be played out in public.

Having come through the ranks at Anfield and captaining the club across its youth levels, Alexander-Arnold has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and the Club World Cup among other major honours since making his senior debut for Liverpool in 2016.

Captain Virgil van Dijk and winger Mohamed Salah are also out of contract at the end of the campaign.

"I think you underestimate our players. These players are used to being linked with all the top clubs on a daily basis, if they have contracts or not," Slot told reporters ahead of Sunday's Premier League home clash against Chelsea.

"If you think they're disturbed by this interest then you don't do justice to how strong they are mentally. This is part of our job. This is part of this world we are living in. You just focus on what you have to do.

"Maybe if you're 17 or 18 years of age it could be difficult for you. But Trent has won the league, has won the Champions League; Virgil and Mo the same. I don't think that is a problem for them to perform and that's what we see at the moment because they're playing really well."

Liverpool, who top the Premier League table with 18 points from seven matches, suffered a blow with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Slot said he expects the 32-year-old Brazil international to return before Christmas.

"But you never know. It is always difficult to know how an injury will go in the first stages, so we can answer that question better in two or three weeks' time," the Dutchman added.

Trent Alexander-Arnold unbothered by transfer speculation, confirms Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Manchester United eased the pressure on beleaguered boss Erik ten Hag as they fought back to beat Brentford 2-1, while Tottenham got back on track with a 4-1 rout of West Ham on Saturday.

Ten Hag had defiantly slammed "fairy tales and lies" about his United future on Friday as the Dutchman insisted he was not in danger of the sack.

But the 54-year-old is widely believed to be fighting to save his job after presiding over United's worst start to a top-flight season since 1989-90.

Ten Hag was surely teetering on the brink of being dismissed after Brentford pounced to take the lead in first-half stoppage time when&nbsp;Ethan Pinnock&nbsp;met a corner with a powerful header.

The goal sparked a furious reaction from Ten Hag, who was booked for protesting about Matthijs de Ligt's enforced absence to have treatment on a bloodied head wound.

But Alejandro Garnacho started United's revival in the 47th minute as the Argentinian met Marcus Rashford's angled pass with a superb volley into the top corner.

And Rasmus Hojlund bagged the decisive second goal in the 62nd minute, taking Bruno Fernandes' clever flick and clipping a composed finish over Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

United's first win in six games in all competitions was only their third victory in eight Premier League matches this term.

They sit 10th in the table ahead of an intriguing week, featuring a Europa League trip to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce and a visit to West Ham.

Tottenham scored three goals in eight second-half minutes against the Hammers to ease the pain of their recent collapse in a 3-2 loss at Brighton.&nbsp;

Mohammed Kudus' opener for West Ham was cancelled out before the break by Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham ran riot after the interval thanks to Yves Bissouma's strike, an own goal from West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and a fourth from Son Heung-min.

It was a third win in four league games for Ange Postecoglou's men, heaping pressure on new West Ham coach Julen Lopetegui after his side's spluttering start to the season.

"Second half was outstanding from the lads -- good energy, good goals, good football," Postecoglou said.

Ten Hag was surely teetering on the brink of being dismissed after Brentford pounced to take the lead in first-half stoppage time when Ethan Pinnock met a corner with a powerful header. Tottenham scored three goals in eight second-half minutes against the Hammers to ease the pain of their recent collapse in a 3-2 loss at Brighton. Premier League: Manchester United ease pressure on Erik ten Hag, Spurs run riot in West Ham win

From the World of Sports in the latest the premier league has opened an international office in Beijing to enhance the appeal of the English football in China. Watch this report to know more.

Premier League Aim To Boost Chinese Fanbase

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min and forward Richarlison are fit to face West Ham United in the Premier League after recovering from injury, manager Ange Postecoglou said on Friday.

Son has missed the last three games after injuring his hamstring against Qarabag in the Europa League late last month. The 32-year-old also sat out of South Korea's two World Cup qualifying matches during the international break.

Richarlison, who picked up a calf injury in training in August, could feature for just the third time this season, Postecoglou said.

"Sonny is good and worked hard the last two weeks. Good for him the two weeks, he's had a solid week and looking to get back out there," Postecoglou told reporters ahead of Saturday's match.

"We've taken our time with Richy and we have taken time to build his fitness base up. He has worked hard, trimmed down, and looks lean. He's good to go now."

The north London club have come through the international break with no fresh injury concerns, with midfielder Lucas Bergvall also doing well after pulling out of Sweden's squad earlier this week.

Spurs, who are ninth in the standings, threw away a two-goal lead at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion in their final match before the international break, ending a run of five wins in a row, and Postecoglou gave a scathing assessment of that performance.

"The question is 'why were we so good in the first half (against Brighton) and so poor in the second?'" the Australian said. "We were really passive with and without the ball. We lacked real conviction and courage in everything we did. It was almost like we felt like we had done enough."

Returning to the principles that served Spurs so well before the Brighton defeat would be key to getting a positive result in the London derby, he added.

"An important game... a good challenge for us," Postecoglou said. "The emphasis has to be on us reproducing the form we've shown in recent times and more importantly sticking to principles of our game."

Premier League: Spurs receive massive boost ahead of West Ham match as Son, Richarlison set to return

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has slammed English media ahead of this week’s Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday (Oct 19). Ten Hag slammed English media for "fairy tales and lies" as he continues to remain under pressure due to a poor start to the Premier League season. Manchester United have made the worst start to a league season in 35 years as they struggle to keep pace with the big sides in the Premier League.

<h2>Ten Hag slams English media</h2>

"Noise is only coming from some of you in the media, creating stories and fairy tales, and bringing lies," Ten Hag told reporters on Friday.

"I told this before the break. Several journalists probably didn't believe me because I see the reports.

"But internal in the club it's quiet. Of course, we are discussing, that we are unhappy with the position where we are and how we have to turn the corner, what has to happen, so what should be strategy to turn this corner."

<h2>Manchester United’s poor form</h2>

Manchester United have made the worst start to a league season for 35 years, with just eight points from a possible 21. They lost heavily to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur on home turf while also being on the losing side in the away game against Brighton. Their Europa League journey has also not gone according to plan with draws against Twente and Porto. Pressure is slowly mounting on the Dutch manager Erik ten Hag, who insists he has still got the backing of club management.

United are back in action over the weekend as they face Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday. A win will be a minimum requirement for the hosts as they look to change their fortunes ahead of a crucial run in domestic and European matches.

Premier League: Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag slams media amid sack rumours

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka's injury is not serious and they are hopeful he will be available for their Premier League trip to Bournemouth on Saturday after picking up a problem on England duty, manager Mikel Arteta has said.

The 23-year-old was forced off during England's shock 2-1 loss to Greece in the Nations League at Wembley last week with a slight hamstring issue. Saka returned to Arsenal for further assessment, missing England's 3-1 win away to Finland.

Saka has scored two goals and provided seven assists in seven Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season.

"(Saka) is not a serious injury," Arteta told reporters on Friday. "He is evolving really well. He has done a few things in the last two days. He wasn't fit enough to play with the national team in the second game, but we are hopeful.

"We have a training session this afternoon. He did some bits yesterday, let's see if he can make it on time."

Another injury concern is Kai Havertz after the forward missed Germany's Nations League matches against Bosnia and the Netherlands due to a knee problem. Brazilian left winger Gabriel Martinelli is also doubtful for the Bournemouth match.

Havertz, 25, has been enjoying a fine campaign, netting four times in seven Premier League games.

"He had a few issues, and we have been dealing with that. He has been absolutely brilliant. He has very good communication with the national team and the manager," Arteta said. "We have modified everything we could do here and if he trains well today, he has a good chance to be fit and available.

"Gabi landed yesterday afternoon here, so we had a very short time to be with him," added the Arsenal coach. "Yesterday he went outside to do a little bit and see how he is feeling, and today will be another step. (We will see) if we want to take the risk if he is fit because I know what the player is going to say."

Captain Martin Odegaard will miss Saturday's game as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, but Arteta said next week will be crucial to see how close the Norway midfielder is.

Last season's runners-up Arsenal are third in the standings with 17 points from seven matches and trail leaders Liverpool by a point. Bournemouth are 13th on eight points.

<h2>England Manager</h2>

Arteta was also asked about the appointment of German Thomas Tuchel as England manager.

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Tuchel is the first German to manage England and only the third foreigner after the late Sven-Goran Eriksson of Sweden and Italian Fabio Capello.

Arteta described Tuchel as one of the best coaches in the world.

"I understand it can feel sad for some people not to have an English manager there and the history tells you as well how important this could be but I think I would take a lot of pride that a lot of managers ... would do anything to become the England manager," Arteta added.

"I can say personally that you feel so related to where you are even though you are not from here and I think that is a huge thing. I think very few countries can say that."

Premier League: Bukayo Saka expected to be fit for Bournemouth game, confirms Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Alex Ferguson is leaving his reported £2 million-a-year ($2.6m) ambassador role with Manchester United at the end of the season as part of a cost-cutting exercise. The former United manager, 82, won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns among a huge trophy haul during nearly 27 years at Old Trafford. The Athletic reported that the decision had been made amicably, with Ferguson stepping down from the global ambassador role when the season ends.

Ferguson, a regular at matches since he stepped down in 2013, will remain a non-executive director of the football club board. It comes as part of a wider cost-cutting exercise at United under INEOS, which has had responsibility for football operations at the club since its founder Jim Ratcliffe completed the purchase of a minority stake earlier this year.

Last month United posted losses of £113.2 million ($148 million) for the year ending June 30, 2024 -- their fifth straight year of losses. But the club said they are compliant with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.

United have instigated a number of cost-saving measures, including a redundancy programme that cut about 250 jobs.

Sir Alex Ferguson to leave Manchester United ambassador role as premier club cuts costs

Nottingham Forest have been fined 750,000 pounds ($979,500) and warned for misconduct in relation to a social media post criticising the referee after their Premier League defeat by Everton last season, the Football Association said on Friday.

Forest were angered at being denied three penalty claims in the 2-0 loss and minutes after the game they issued a statement on social media platform X accusing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Stuart Attwell of being a Luton Town fan.

At the time, Forest were involved in a relegation battle with Luton but they eventually finished 17th while Luton went down.

"The club denied that the comments posted on social media imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match officials and/or the video assistant referee and/or bring the game into disrepute," the FA said in a statement. "An independent Regulatory Commission found the charge to be proven following a hearing and imposed the club's sanctions."

At the time, Forest said on X: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Forest, who said they would appeal the decision, had asked for the fine to be suspended but the FA rejected the request.

"We are particularly concerned that the FA, in its submissions, sought a sanction 'in excess of 1,000,000 pounds'," Forest said in a statement. "We believe that this request, along with the subsequent fine, is wholly disproportionate and the club will be appealing the decision."

FA fines Nottingham Forest £75,000 for social media post targeting VAR last season

Manchester City and the Premier League both claimed victory on Monday after the champions challenged the English top flight's rules on commercial deals.

City launched legal action against the associated party transaction (APT) rules earlier this year on the grounds they were anti-competitive.

The APT rules are designed to ensure commercial deals with entities linked to a club's owners reflect fair market value.

The case is separate from an ongoing hearing involving City, with the club fighting 115 charges relating to alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules.

The Premier League said on Monday that City were "unsuccessful in the majority of (their) challenge" and that the tribunal considering the case had determined the APT rules were necessary and pursued a legitimate objective.

But City released a statement saying the tribunal had declared the APT rules "unlawful" and that the league had abused a dominant position under competition law.

The Premier League said the tribunal had supported the legitimacy of the regulations and said it had found them essential to make the profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) effective.&nbsp;

It said the tribunal had agreed with the Premier League that if a transaction was evidently not at fair market value, that would distort competition within the league.

The league also said the panel had rejected City's argument that the purpose of the rules was to discriminate against clubs with ownership from the Gulf region.

The Premier League said the panel found in favour of City in "two respects only" -- that shareholder loans should not be excluded from APT rules and that a "limited number of amendments" to the APT rules made earlier should not be retained.

Manchester City said the panel found the APT rules were "structurally unfair" and that the panel had set aside specific decisions of the Premier League to restate the fair market value of two transactions entered into by the club.

But City released a statement saying the tribunal had declared the APT rules "unlawful" and that the league had abused a dominant position under competition law. Premier League, Manchester City both claim victory in legal battler over commercial deal rules

Mateo Kovacic scored twice as Manchester City clinched a dramatic 3-2 win against Fulham on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side suffered a first-half shock when Andreas Pereira put Fulham ahead at the Etihad Stadium.

But Kovacic, filling in for the injured Rodri, struck either side of half-time to settle City's nerves.

The Croatian midfielder's brace was followed by Jeremy Doku's blistering strike before Rodrigo Muniz netted Fulham's second to set up a tense finish.

City remain unbeaten in their first 10 games in all competitions this season, with five wins from seven league matches putting them firmly in contention for a fifth successive title.

They sit in second place, one point behind leaders Liverpool after ending a two-match winless run in the top-flight.

Questions have been asked over how City will cope without the influential Rodri after the Spain international was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

But while Guardiola may have been concerned at how Fulham were able to take control for spells, in Kovacic they have an able deputy.

City started strongly with Ilkay Gundogan driving just wide and Erling Haaland shooting across the face of goal.

Haaland also had a free-kick blocked and then headed at Bernardo Leno before City were caught napping on Fulham's first attack as Adama Traore broke away from Rico Lewis.

The Spaniard should have punished City but was denied by the feet of Ederson.

City switched off again in 26th minute and this time were made to pay.

They failed to deal with a deep cross from Antonee Robinson and the ball was worked inside to Raul Jimenez, whose clever backheel flick dropped perfectly for Pereira to volley home.

Fulham should have increased their lead moments later as Alex Iwobi teed up Traore but again the former Wolves man erred, scooping over the bar as Ederson closed in.

The Cottagers were to rue their misses as City began their fightback when Kovacic levelled just after the half-hour mark.

Kovacic drove in from the edge of the box, via a deflection off Joachim Anderson, after a corner fell to him invitingly.

The former Chelsea star put City ahead with an assured finish two minutes after the break.

Silva created the chance with a nice lay-off and Kovacic did the rest, beating Sander Berge with a nice touch and curling in a shot from 18 yards.

Doku bagged the vital third goal in the 82nd minute as he cut inside from the left and rattled a shot into the top corner.

Fulham made City work until the end as Muniz turned to score with a deflected shot two minutes from full-time.

Premier League: Man City sink Fulham to get title bid back on track; Arsenal beat resolute Southampton

Manchester United's winless run stretched to five games in a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Sunday that did little to ease the pressure on Erik ten Hag.

Bruno Fernandes hit the crossbar with the best effort from either side with a second-half free-kick but United have now failed to score in their last three Premier League games.

A point leaves Ten Hag's men still down in 14th, having won just two of their opening seven league games of the season.

Fifth-placed Villa missed the chance to move into the top four as they were unable to repeat their heroics of beating Bayern Munich in midweek.

United's 3-0 humiliation on home soil by Tottenham last weekend had plunged Ten Hag's job back into peril.

A 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday did the Dutchman's case little favours as United blew an early two-goal lead to trail 3-2 before Harry Maguire's injury-time leveller.

Ten Hag reacted by dropping centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt after their chastening night in Portugal with Maguire and veteran Jonny Evans brought back in to the starting line-up.

Villa had a far more memorable European night in midweek when Bayern were beaten 1-0 as the Champions League returned to Birmingham for the first time in over 40 years.

Both sides showed signs of fatigue as the match failed to spark into life.

Ten Hag controversially replaced Marcus Rashford at half-time in Porto after he had scored and set up Rasmus Hojlund's second for United inside the opening 20 minutes.

The United boss said that decision was motivated by managing the minutes of his wingers and Rashford was the visitors' biggest threat.

The England international cut inside and forced Emi Martinez into the only save of the first half with a powerful strike after five minutes.

Morgan Rogers fired wide at the other end, but United's reshaped defence held out with little problems until the break.

Ten Hag was forced into another defensive reshuffle at half-time as Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui were forced off injured as De Ligt and Victor Lindelof came on.

Rashford forced Martinez into another good save with a blistering shot from outside the box.

But he was lucky not to be sent-off for two bookable offences just minutes apart.

Rashford had been booked when he brought down Leon Bailey and was swiftly substituted by Ten Hag to avoid a United dismissal for the third consecutive game.

Fernandes' red card against Tottenham had been rescinded to allow him to play and the United captain came as close to anyone to scoring a winner with a free-kick that came back off the bar.

Unai Emery turned to Villa's super sub Jhon Duran to win the game.

The Colombian has scored five goals off the bench this season but even he could not liven up a sluggish Villa performance.

They did have one big chance to snatch all three points when De Ligt failed to cut out a cross and Jaden Philogene's shot was deflected wide by Diogo Dalot.

A return of eight points from their opening seven league games in United's worst since 1989.

Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe was in the stands at Villa Park and with a two-week international break to come, the United hierarchy must decide whether to hand Ten Hag a stay of execution or decide it's time for change.

Premier League: Manchester United play fifth straight winless game with stalemate against Aston Villa

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be sidelined for "a few weeks" after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Alisson was injured while making a clearance and was forced to limp off in the second half of the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.

Czech international Vitezslav Jaros, 23, came on to replace Alisson, with Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitting he does not expect to have his first choice available for a while.

Alisson has been hampered by hamstring injuries and will miss the Premier League leaders' game against Chelsea following the forthcoming international break.

"What I do know is that when a player walks off like he did, it normally means he's not in the Brazil squad and I don't expect him to be in the team for the first match we play after the break," Slot said after Diogo Jota's ninth minute goal sealed Liverpool's sixth win in seven league games this season.

"We have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks for him to be back. I think it is, yes (his hamstring).

"He's clearly our number one, he's the best goalkeeper in the world. It's always a blow when he gets injured, not only for him but us as a team."

Slot endured another injury blow when Alexis Mac Allister was replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai at half-time due to a groin injury.

Unclear how long Mac Allister will be sidelined for, Slot said: "How bad that is, it's not for me to judge at this moment.

"He felt it and said 'it's not good to keep on playing because it could be made worse'.

"It's difficult for me to say if he can play for Argentina. It was in the groin area."

Premier League: Alisson Becker injured and out for ‘few weeks’ in Liverpool’s win at Palace

Diogo Jota's early goal was enough to give Liverpool a tight 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday and ensure the Reds go into the international break top of the Premier League, though goalkeeper Alisson was forced off injured late on.

Palace had the ball in the net inside 30 seconds after Ismaila Sarr got in behind Kostas Tsimikas and centred to Eddie Nketiah, who finished deftly but had strayed offside.

The hosts started the game sharply but Liverpool took the lead with their first real attack in the ninth minute when Cody Gakpo ran on to Tsimikas' through ball down the left.

He centred for Jota, who breezed past Palace debutant Trevor Chalobah to poke home from close range and record his fourth goal of the season in all competitions.

Jota should have doubled his tally in the 34th minute after good work by Mohamed Salah and the impressive Ryan Gravenberch, whose ball from the right found Jota unmarked but he scuffed his effort well wide.

Liverpool enjoyed almost 75 per cent&nbsp;possession in the first half but without creating many clear-cut chances and Palace almost made them pay on the stroke of half-time.

Maxence Lacroix's quick pass played Ismaila Sarr in behind, but his low effort was well saved by Alisson.

The second half began quietly before the visitors began to move through the gears and Salah drew a smart block from Palace keeper Dean Henderson after cushioning down a wonderful pass from Virgil van Dijk.

Jota missed another good chance just after the hour when Trent Alexander-Arnold found him in space from a free kick, but the Portugal forward mistimed his header.

Liverpool's failure to kill the game almost cost them as Eddie Nketiah and Eberechi Eze drew good saves from Alisson, who went off injured after he was forced into a hasty clearance.

That brought Vitezslav Jaros on for his Liverpool debut with the Palace fans sensing a shift in momentum, but Eze shot straight at Jaros who also stopped substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta in his tracks in added time.

Liverpool stay top with 18 points from seven games and open up a four-point lead on Manchester City and Arsenal, who play later on Saturday.

"I think it's always hard to come here. The results over the years have all been very tight and close," said man of the match Van Dijk. "We could have played a bit better in the second half. Overall, it's a big three points and we go into the international break on a high."

Palace remain winless with three points from seven league games.
