<p>Prajakta, overwhelmed with the love <em>Too Good To Be True</em> has been receiving, got talking about the process of writing a book with an idea she conceived during the pandemic, if she considers herself a hopeless romantic in real life, and what advice she has for people who want to publish a book in the future.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Q: Prajakta, congratulations on your marriage and your new book. How does it feel to be a published author?</strong></p>
<p>A: Thank you so much! Honestly, it's got to be one of the most challenging things I've done in my life so far as a creator. I was very, very happy when I finished writing the book. So, recording for my book was even more special. When I stood in that studio recording for Audible, it was the first time I said those words aloud after having worked on it for more than a year. This has been a huge learning curve for me &ndash; from writing scripts to writing a book and recording an audiobook.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Q: When did you think of the idea for your book, Too Good To Be True?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: During COVID, I was working on a few original ideas, and this was one of those. I wanted to develop this as a show, so when I started work on this, I realised I was very close to this idea and wanted to see if I could do it myself without a writer&rsquo;s room. I have no training in screenplay or dialogue writin,g so I started writing excerpts, which then became chapters for my book.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Q: Do you draw from yourself for Avni in your book?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: I drew a lot from myself for Avni because, as a first-time author, for me, that was the lowest hanging fruit. It was the easiest for me to look for inspiration in myself and my personality when it came to Avni.</p>
<p>But beyond that, I worked a little longer, harder to build from scratch as fiction.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Q: Prajakta, would you call yourself a hopeless romantic?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: A 100 per cent. I&rsquo;ve been that for years. I have always gravitated towards it growing up. I used to be all heart for a very long time growing up. Now, I think I have reached a sweet spot where my heart and my mind meet midway. So, I go with my gut.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I used to be all heart for a very long time until I realised that self-preservation is also important. Now, I feel my heart and mind are pretty much in the same place. So I don't have to battle it out anymore.</p>
<p><strong>Q: Is your husband too good to be true for you?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: I wouldn't call him that because he's perfect. I have been with him for a very long time, and I can say that he is everything that he shows. He is very much true in the way I want him to be. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Q: Did writing happen because you&rsquo;re a reader? Is that the usual route we have to take to develop writing as a skill?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: I don&rsquo;t know what approach one can take when it comes to writing. I feel like it's a very, very personal process. I think everyone has a different way of approaching the first word or the first line, or the first chapter. For me, as much as I enjoyed writing romance, and I always wanted to write romance and develop it into shows and stuff like that, writing a book was never an idea I had. It wasn't until I read about 100 books that I realised that I now know how to tell a story. So the whole idea of writing a book, that is a dual POV book, came to me from reading all these beautiful novels that I ended up reading a few years ago.</p>
<p><strong>Q: What would you suggest to people who want to start writing but are not able to?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>A: The only thing that's worked for me is actually putting the work out without being too self-critical of it. It could be a YouTube video, a book or anything else. You would have a way of learning or steering towards the right place unless you put it out.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Also, even if I wanted to be critical, I couldn&rsquo;t be because I don&rsquo;t know better. It&rsquo;s good to have a little faith in yourself and take that leap.</p>

<p><strong>Q: We haven&rsquo;t seen you on screen in a while. Should we expect something new in the works?</strong></p>
<p>A: Yes, I shot something exciting for Prime Video that should be coming out sometime this year. It's a supernatural thriller. It's very different from anything I've done before. It's called Andhera. I also finished shooting another project for another OTT platform. I am currently shooting another project for the same OTT, and then there are a couple of other announcements that I am not allowed to speak about yet. Also, there&rsquo;s definitely more writing.&nbsp;</p>

A: I don’t know what approach one can take when it comes to writing. I feel like it's a very, very personal process. I think everyone has a different way of approaching the first word or the first line, or the first chapter. For me, as much as I enjoyed writing romance, and I always wanted to write romance and develop it into shows and stuff like that, writing a book was never an idea I had. It wasn't until I read about 100 books that I realised that I now know how to tell a story. So the whole idea of writing a book, that is a dual POV book, came to me from reading all these beautiful novels that I ended up reading a few years ago. Q: What would you suggest to people who want to start writing but are not able to? A: The only thing that's worked for me is actually putting the work out without being too self-critical of it. It could be a YouTube video, a book or anything else. You would have a way of learning or steering towards the right place unless you put it out. Drenched in 90s nostalgia, this visual feast is directed by cinema and theatre veteran Akarsh Khurana and stars Prajakta Koli in her teleplay debut along with Shikha Talsania, Chaitnya Sharma, and Adhaar Khurana. The central conflict of the plot is that lovebirds Lakshman (Chaitnya Sharma) and Priya (Prajakta Koli) cannot marry each other until the latter's elder sister Pallavi (Shikha Talsania) gets married. Lakshman then devises a hilarious plan and tries to get Pallavi hitched to an eligible NRI groom (Adhaar Khurana). What follows is absolute mayhem, endless fun, and impossible wedding moments.</p>

Prajakta Koli aka Mostly Sane forays into theatre with an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew'

<p>There was a time when Bollywood churned out family dramas by the dozen. In the early 2000s, Karan Johar heralded this genre with 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' and its success led to others replicating it. Two decades later Johar backs yet another family dramedy but changes the narrative to a great extent to make it relevant to modern times. Raj Mehta's 'JugJugg Jeeyo' works in all quarters and brings back the quintessential family entertainers to Bollywood.</p>

<p>Kukoo&nbsp;(Varun Dhawan) is married to his childhood sweetheart Naina (Kiara Advani) and settled in Canada. Five years into the marriage, the spark between the two has faded owing to their work and very different goals in life. They decide to file for divorce but only after Kukoo's sister Ginny's (Prajakta Koli) wedding. As they head home thinking of pretending&nbsp;to be the perfect couple, they have no inkling that Kukoo's father Bheem(Anil Kapoor) is all set to leave his wife of 35 years, Geeta (Neetu Kapoor) for another woman. Kukoo&nbsp;not only has to break the news of his broken marriage to his parents but also save his parent's marriage from falling apart.</p>

<p>Marriage and infidelity are topics that have been dealt with in far too many films in Bollywood but what makes 'Jugjugg Jeeyo' effective is the way it's treated in the film. Complete with situational comedy, it looks at marriage in a manner that seems refreshing for Bollywood. Gone are the days when Hindi cinema used to depict the wife as someone who is sacrificial, forgiving and following her husband's footsteps all the time.</p>

<p>Written by Anurag Singh, the film's women are shown to have more character and gravitas than the men. While the men philander, resort to buffoonery at every step, it is the women who hold the fort literally at this Saini household. From Neetu Singh's character as the no-nonsense matriarch who holds the family together but knows when to stand up for herself to Kiara's Naina who is an ambitious individual and not apologetic about the fact that she earns more than her husband.</p>

<p>Even Ginny's (Prajakta Koli) character has more maturity as someone who takes decisions which are more practical than emotional.</p>

<p>The men in Raj Mehta's films have always been silly. Be it the reluctant dads of 'Good News' or the husbands in 'Jugjugg Jeeyo.' Anil Kapoor is brilliant as the selfish, self-centred patriarch who is in for the fun and never wants to own up to his mistakes. Kapoor and Dhawan share amazing chemistry as father-son and their scenes together flow effortlessly. It helps that the film has good writing which is enabled by good performances on screen.</p>

<p>Dhawan plays the role of the confused Kuku with absolute perfection and never goes overboard with his emotional scenes or the comic scenes. He also shares good chemistry with Kiara who delivers a very confident performance as Naina.</p>

<p>It's always a delight to watch Neetu Kapoor on screen and this film is no different. She brings calmness to the chaos and delivers a very restrained performance.</p>

Kukoo (Varun Dhawan) is married to his childhood sweetheart Naina (Kiara Advani) and settled in Canada. Five years into the marriage, the spark between the two has faded owing to their work and very different goals in life. They decide to file for divorce but only after Kukoo's sister Ginny's (Prajakta Koli) wedding. As they head home thinking of pretending to be the perfect couple, they have no inkling that Kukoo's father Bheem(Anil Kapoor) is all set to leave his wife of 35 years, Geeta (Neetu Kapoor) for another woman. Kukoo not only has to break the news of his broken marriage to his parents but also save his parent's marriage from falling apart. Marriage and infidelity are topics that have been dealt with in far too many films in Bollywood but what makes 'Jugjugg Jeeyo' effective is the way it's treated in the film. 'Jugjugg Jeeyo' review: Refreshing, wholesome family entertainer with a relevant message

<p>Always the one to start her digital interactions with a wide smile. Forever chirpy. &nbsp;Eager to sprinkle her positivity all over those millions of followers she has on social media and so humble that you almost forget that she’s just won a Daytime Emmy for her documentary with Michelle Obama, ‘Creator For Change’. "I still think it has not happened," Prajakta Koli—better known as MostlySane—tells us during our telephonic interview.&nbsp;</p>

Although her acting career has taken off full swing—she has her second season of ‘Mismatched’ on Netflix, and then there’s the Bollywood debut in the multi-starrer ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’—Prajakta says she would always be a content creator first and don other hats later.&nbsp;</p>

<strong>Take us back to how it all started for you—YouTube videos! Why was it important for you to be heard on a video-sharing platform? So take us back to that moment.</strong></p>

I didn't really want to make content because I wanted to be seen or I wanted to be heard. I just wanted to make content because I didn't know what else to do. I was failing at being a Radio Jockey and that used to be my dream job, and it wasn't working. So making videos actually came as a safety net, because that’s the only thing I could fall back on right then.</p>

It was amazing! I mean, one of the favorite parts of my job is the fact that I get to collaborate with people from different fields, people from different parts of the world, people from different schools of thought, people from, you know, people who have lived life very differently than I have. Overall, just amazingly creative people from around the world. And I feel like that God has been amazingly kind to me.</p>

<strong>I know you have talked about Mrs. Michelle Obama in the past. But, we still want to know how she is like when the camera's not rolling? Has she has she shared any words of wisdom with you? What have you learned from her that resonates with you even to this day?</strong></p>

I think the best part about it was that I don't think she's very different when the cameras’ not rolling. And she's extremely relatable. She's as real as she seems to us via, you know, all the content that we see (on her). Michelle Obama is exactly like that. And I think that was one of my biggest lessons to just see someone like that.</p>

<p>As if it’s nothing. I remember feeling so nervous as she entered the room. And, after she came inside the room, I think within a few seconds, she came and hugged all of us and then immediately all those thoughts that she was ‘the Michelle Obama’ and I was nervous: it just wasn’t there anymore. It was as if we were just a bunch of girls sitting down talking about girls’ education. And I think that is such a beautiful quality to have—to have achieved so much in life, at least where she is right now. But, still have your feet solid on the ground. I think that was that was a beautiful thing.</p>

<strong>You have won the Outstanding Daytime Non-Fiction Special for ‘Creator of Change’ featuring the former first lady of America, and for an issue you genuinely seem to be care about. Has the feeling sunk in yet? How's the feeling of winning such a massive award?</strong></p>

I don't think I can process something like this. It was way too big; way too big a possibility for me in my head. But, I still believe that has not happened. At the same time, I'm very grateful that I get to be in a position and live a life like this. So, it's just a whole lot of gratitude and I think more motivation to keep doing (good) work.&nbsp;</p>

<strong>You have such an amazing on-screen chemistry with Rohit Saraf in ‘Mistmatched’ (Netflix). How did you guys manage to exude such effortless charm in your debut outing together? Because I feel like there is a proper friendship between the two of you that goes beyond work.</strong></p>

No, no. I mean, I remember when I first met the entire cast and crew. I met the director first, and Rohit was my first friend and on set; we got along with him. And that still prevails. I mean, he's one of my closest friends. I love him so much. I think he's so talented. He's such a beautiful person. I think both of us love complex issues. Both of us were very invested in the different shades of Dimple and Rishi (their respective character names on the show). I think what sort of helped us hold on to the characters and the chemistry on screen.</p>

<strong>For your Bollywood debut, you are working with a stellar star cast that involves senior actors as well as your contemporaries. So how's it working with them? Were you nervous? What was the feeling like? What is the whole vibe like between all of you?</strong></p>

I was extremely nervous. We started shooting in November 2020, which was last year. And I remember when I was supposed to fly with everyone for the first schedule. I was extremely nervous. I mean it was going to be my first time meeting, no one had met everyone anyone before. I had just met our director because I started meeting with him before I met him a couple of times during the process. However, I've met Varun Dhawan a few times before that. Honestly, I think he has a huge role to play in the fact that I was very, very comfortable when I was on set because he was extremely warm, but even before that. And then I met everyone and you know, it was just I feel so grateful and I feel so blessed that I just to be on time when again where people are just so amazing. Everyone's was so nice. Everybody was so accommodative.</p>

I honestly think that everything that I get to live and experience and work with today stems from the fact that, you know, people saw me on YouTube. I have an audience that supports me and hold me up and helps me reach new places. And I am completely aware of that. I know that creating content would be like cutting off the golden goose and I would never want to do that. Also, I love shooting videos, I absolutely love it! It's one of my favorite things to do about my job.</p>

And I'm very proud to always say that I have followers that are very supportive. So, if it's hate online, I really don't care. It's not my problem. But, otherwise, I think negativity in life, I'm very blessed to have a close circle of people who are most amazing human beings I've ever met. My friends and my family I think are just, you know, I feel a lot of happiness to have them generally in life.</p>

While Rishi had slightly different reasons, which were very apparent when he walked towards Dimple on the first day of the institute and called her 'future wife.' Dimple was completely unaware that her mother had not hit the pause button on the 'shaadi talk' at home. But, the only reason she was allowed to go to Jaipur was to meet the 'possible future husband.' While the duo did start on the wrong foot, they gradually get to know each other and somewhere in the middle of the show get romantically involved.</p>

<p>Don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad in a simple rom-com. It makes a perfect addition to your binge list, after all, who doesn't like a cute love story with bucket loads of drama. It has been working for many years and it will possibly continue to do so in the future. But, the problem in 'Mismatched' is they try to over-complicate the simple love story. Initially, they try to merge it with a coming-of-age plotline with teenagers trying to find their way in life, but as we reach the last episode it just falls apart.</p>

<p>Honestly, the fact that Dimple's mother was pushing so much for her daughter's wedding at the age of 17 did seem a bit stretched. Also, for Rishi to completely be okay, actually enthusiastic for marriage in his teens did not fit quite well in the 'millennial plotline.' Especially when he had seen nothing but just a picture of Dimple.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Let's also talk about the cliché representation of its characters, who for some reason are always rude and angry with each other. There is a bunch of rich kids who like always are extra mean to the 'not-so-privileged' students of the class. A self-declared leader of the privileged group, who is extra angry and thinks he is unbeatable. An NRI who criticizes the way Indians scream and basically everything about the country.</p>

<p>Surprisingly, Dimple was also unnecessarily mean in some situations, whether it was her defense mechanism or a way to deal with situations, make her unlikeable in some scenes. Even if we ignore all these factors, the thing which really went too far and gave us 'Student of the Year' feels, was when they held a proper stage competition with an anchor and fancy lights for a small bet between Dimple and another student. Here is when the word 'simple love story' just went flying past the window.</p>

All these&nbsp;parallel storylines were executed very well. We also enjoyed the scenes in which Dimple snaps back at all the sexist remarks made by other students and her mother. Whether it was standing up for the female gamers or her dark skin colour, she came back in a way they least expected.<br />

Talking about the music of the show, the song which really stuck till the end, was Prateek Kuhad's 'Kaha Ho Tum.' Just as his last song, Kasoor, this one also has another level of charm.</p>
