The approval rating of United States President Donald Trump over his handling of coronavirus recently dropped to its lowest level ever recorded, given the resurgence of virus across major American cities.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed the newly record low numbers, especially in the backdrop of Trump recently suggesting to “slow down testing” to control the number of cases.

A new pattern emerges

The poll, conducted on June 22-23 also shed light on a new pattern. Majority of the Americans now want John Bolton, his former security adviser who recently released a memoir looking back at his time in office, to testify in US Congress against Trump under oath.

According to Bolton, Trump sought the assistance of Chinese President Xi Jinping in winning the upcoming presidential elections.&nbsp;Allegedly, he also claimed to “be okay” with Uighur Muslims being put in concentration camps.

The poll data reveals that 37 per cent Americans approved Trump’s response to the pandemic, which is the lowest number recorded by Reuters/Ipsos since they began tracking the data in March.

At least one German state banned compatriots from two districts that entered a new lockdown due to a coronavirus outbreak, and Austria issued a travel warning, causing anger tinged with resignation among locals.

The roughly 640,000 residents of Guetersloh and Warendorf on Wednesday became the first in Germany to revert to the strict curbs that had been gradually lifted since April, after more than 1,500 workers at the north-west districts' Toennies meatpacking plant tested positive for the virus.&nbsp;

Bavaria ordered its hotels and B&amp;Bs not to accept guests from Guetersloh. Daily newspaper Bild said seaside state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern would also not welcome tourists from the affected areas, and that Usedom, a Baltic island, would expel them.

Austria warned against travel to the whole state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), putting it in the same category as the epicentre of Italy's outbreak in Lombardy.

NRW premier Armin Laschet urged his regional counterparts to allow in holidaymakers who had tested negative for the virus. "One thing is not acceptable - people from Guetersloh should not be stigmatized," he told the state assembly.

In the town, residents queued up to get tested, hoping for a passport to travel. "We want to travel to Bavaria on Saturday and it is a condition that you bring a negative corona test," said Andreas Tollmann.

The daily number of new coronavirus cases in&nbsp;Tokyo&nbsp;climbed to 55 on Wednesday, Governor Yuriko Koike said, the highest tally in 1-1/2 months after a cluster of infections was found at an unnamed office in the Japanese capital.

"Fifty-five daily cases was a bit of a shock to me when I first heard it," Koike told reporters. "But our current situation is different from back in March and April, namely because our medical system is significantly different."

The metropolis, with a population of 14 million, has sought to keep new cases below 20 a day since Japan lifted a state of emergency on May 25.&nbsp;Tokyo&nbsp;has said it could re-impose restrictions if the figure crept up to 50 or more - something that last happened on May 5.

Of the 55 new cases, nine were confirmed at the workplace, which already had seven recorded infections, Koike said. The new cases might have emerged outside the office where the employees had a meeting, she said.

Speaking before the latest figure was reported, Koike had warned of a "large number" on Wednesday as more positive test results followed a cluster of seven infections previously found at the office.

"Clusters in the workplace have become a big problem lately" as people have emerged from the capital's 'Stay Home' initiative, she told reporters earlier.&nbsp;

Still,&nbsp;Tokyo&nbsp;- like the rest of Japan - has been spared the kind of explosive outbreak seen elsewhere, with some 5,800 coronavirus cases and 323 deaths so far.&nbsp;

In all of Japan, about 18,000 have tested positive and 965 have died so far from the COVID-19 illness. Globally, more than 9.26 million people have tested positive and some 475,880 have died.

Chinese tech giant&nbsp;Tencent&nbsp;is creating a "smart city" that utilises technology to put people and the environment first, a model that could be applied to other urban developments after the coronavirus, the project's architect said on Wednesday.

Net City will be a 2 million square metre (21.5 million square feet) neighbourhood in the southeastern city of Shenzhen, comprising&nbsp;Tencent&nbsp;offices and residences for its employees, as well as public amenities such as parks and a waterfront area.

With fewer streets for cars, "green" garden roofs on buildings and the use of artificial intelligence, Net City is a model for the "future of city building", said Jonathan Ward, a design partner at NBBJ, a United States-based architecture firm.

"This moment reinforces the need to think about designing spaces, buildings and cities that are restorative ... plentiful indoor-outdoor spaces which are good for overall human health, perhaps even more so during a pandemic," Ward said.&nbsp;

Construction of Net City is scheduled to begin later this year.&nbsp;

It will prioritise sustainability by "reducing car use, increasing planning strategies around the needs of people, allowing greater public access, and with increased environmental conservation", he added.

More than 500 smart cities are being built across China, according to government data, equipped with sensors, cameras, and other gadgets that can crunch data on everything from traffic and pollution, to public health and security.

Net City will use technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous vehicles, said Ward. Mangroves and other nature-based features will help mitigate the impacts of climate change, he added.

Smart cities are a part of China's plan to spur growth amidst a global economic downturn, authorities said in March.

But the use of technologies such as AI in China and elsewhere have also raised concerns about data privacy and surveillance, including during the pandemic.

Last month, Alphabet's Sidewalk Labs canned its Toronto smart city project that had envisioned sensors feeding data to AI-enabled computers to manage traffic and drainage systems. Alphabet is the parent company of Google.

The project had long faced opposition over issues including data privacy and the influence of big technology companies in city planning.

But in China, where smart cities rely on the government's dominant role in urban planning and budgeting, the general public has less say, said Xu Chengwei, a public-policy researcher at the Singapore Management University.

"China's smart city initiatives are not driven primarily by market demand, but by political and technological ambition," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

"Smart cities will continue to be the core of city planning, and tech giants' involvement will continue," he said.

In China and elsewhere, given the need to track and monitor the coronavirus pandemic, technology will not be "any less ubiquitous or any more democratised", said Kris Hartley, an assistant professor at the Education University of Hong Kong.

"The narrative around COVID-19 recovery and resilience is likely to be shaped around urbanism in some way. So there may well be an increase in purpose-built towns as demonstration projects or test-bed experiments," he said.

"Technology will shape the post-COVID-19 world," he added.

"The pandemic is still accelerating...we know that the pandemic is much more than a health crisis, it's an economic crisis, a social crisis and in many countries a political crisis. Its effects will be felt for decades to come," he said. (With inputs from agencies)

He urged people to cooperate to control the spread of the virus by following measures in place to contain it.
Concerned over the increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had on Monday directed officials to implement lockdown measures strictly in certain clusters in Bengaluru which have reported more number of infections.

The city civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had also issued an order sealing the busy K R Market and Kalasipalya Market here for 15 days.

Till Monday evening, the state capital had reported 1,398 cases of COVID-19, including 67 deaths and 411 discharges.

On Monday, as many as 126 fresh cases were recorded.

Referring to the increasing number of cases in Bengaluru, Sriramulu said till now asymptomatic cases were also admitted at dedicated hospitals.

But from now on, they would be treated at community halls, schools, marriage halls, hotels and Haj Bhavans, which have been converted into COVID Care centres (CCC), he said.

"With asymptomatic patients going to CCCs, we will have more beds at dedicated COVID hospitals to treat symptomatic patients and serious patients," he said, adding CCCs will have doctors and nurses 24X7 to take care of patients.

Noting that the government would be testing more senior citizens in the days to come, the minister said the state planned to ramp up testing on a large scale.

"We have plans to conduct 2000-3000 tests in each district and have two testing labs in each district," he said.

Sriramulu said government has decided to take 50 per cent of beds in private hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients, while the remaining would be for those who prefer private treatment.

"Rates have been fixed for treatment of patients under the government quota and payment will be made at that rate.

We have also fixed ceiling for patients wishing to get treated at private hospitals," he said.

To a question about complaints of poor quality food and facilities for patients at certain dedicated COVID hospitals in Bengaluru, Sriramulu said, "complaints have come to my notice.

I have directed officials to make necessary arrangements. I will ensure it does not recur.

Govt may have to impose lockdown in Bengaluru if COVID cases increase: Health Minister

Starting July 4, the United Kingdom will revoke its mandatory two-metre social distancing rule which was put in place to ensure industries could restart work while maintaining social distancing among people.

UK Prime Minister on TuesdayBoris Johnson announced that even though two metres is still the optimum distance, people unable to maintain it should at least stick to one metre.

"Where it is possible to keep two metres apart, people should. But where it is not, we will advise people to keep a social distance of one metre plus," said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Johnson further added that restaurants, pubs, and hotels could reopen in July across the country, however he did assert on the need for “mitigation” in the absence of the social distancing rule.

Authorities in Democratic Republic of Congo's southeastern mining heartland are boosting efforts to tackle child labour amid concerns that the coronavirus pandemic could drive more families to put their children to work in mines, officials said.

Congo is Africa's main producer of copper and the top global source of cobalt, accounting for two-thirds of global supplies of the metal used in smartphones and electric car batteries.

Mining accounts for 32% of Congo's national output and the economy has been hard hit by the pandemic, which has slowed demand for metals and other raw materials.&nbsp;

The slump means mining workers are earning a fraction of what they did before the outbreak, and are more likely to take their children to work, according to activists and academics.

"Economic activity has been paralysed during this health crisis and this will have a negative impact on parents' income," said Mathieu Kazembe Sawana Ilunga, the official who oversees the economy and industry in the southeastern Lualaba province.

"But this must not be used as justification for the presence of children in mines," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Tens of thousands of children as young as six work without protective gear in artisanal mines in the country's southeast, according to rights groups including Amnesty International.

About 15% of children aged 5 to 17 across Congo are engaged in child labour - with most doing dangerous work - a 2019 report by the National Institute of Statistics found.

Children in Congo are permitted by law to work from the age of 16 if they are deemed fit to do so by labour inspectors.

Nathalie Lunda Ngandu, the official in charge of social affairs, gender and family issues in Lualaba, said she shared the concerns of activists about a rise in child labour at mines.

Authorities will address the soaring cost of basic necessities, raise awareness in communities and at mining sites, and improve monitoring systems for child labour, Ngandu said.

Congo launched new monitoring and tracing mechanisms in 2018 to tackle child labour in mineral production. They apply both to artisanal mines and operations run by large mining companies.

"We will also spearhead two major activities with elected representatives and traditional and local authorities so they get involved ... in the fight against the worst forms of child labour, particularly in the context of COVID-19," Ngandu added.

Together, Lualaba and neighbouring Haut-Katanga account for nearly all of Congo's output of cobalt. Exports fell by 15.2% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year.&nbsp;

Roger-Claude Liwanga - a researcher at Harvard University who has studied child labour in Congolese mines - said authorities were "often in denial" about child miners, and urged them to distribute free food to prevent the practice worsening.

Civil society groups this month said many mines were forcing workers to stay on site - to avoid coronavirus outbreaks - and providing insufficient food and water and inadequate housing, while protective equipment and hygiene measures were lacking.&nbsp;

Congo has so far confirmed about 5,925 cases and 135 deaths.

When Thai travel consultancy Local Alike saw its revenue drop to zero due to the coronavirus outbreak, it started selling products from villages through social media.&nbsp;

The business has generated 2.6 million baht ($84,000) for locals in 20 communities selling products from snacks to rice.&nbsp;

"It exceeded our expectations," said Somsak Boonkam, founder and chief executive of Bangkok-based Local Alike, which promotes sustainable tourism in 200 villages.

"From now on, we would like to serve as an e-commerce platform for communities."

Thailand's social enterprises have been hit hard by the coronavirus, which has infected more than 3,100 people and killed more than 50 since January.&nbsp;

Although most businesses are allowed to reopen after a decline in new coronavirus cases, the country's borders are still closed, affecting the tourism industry.

Tourism is a key sector for the Thai economy, accounting for 18% of the country's gross domestic product last year.

But the industry's social enterprises - businesses that aim to do good - have adapted through the crisis, while also finding solutions for communities.&nbsp;

In response to high demand for the village products, Local Alike set up a separate company to handle the e-commerce platform, which will expand to 155 communities next year.&nbsp;

It hopes that by helping locals develop the products by improving packaging and product design, communities will be able to earn more.&nbsp;

Other social enterprises like civil society network SATARANA and HiveSters, set up to preserve disappearing cultures and help local communities, have also made online food delivery services a part of their long term business plan.&nbsp;

"(The coronavirus) has affected communities that once had income from tourism," said Achiraya Thamparipattra, chief executive at HiveSters, which returns 70% of the company's revenue back to communities through cultural tours.

"And for us, from now on we can no longer operate just as a tour company. Setting up a food brand (that uses products from communities) will lower future risks."

NEW BUSINESS MODEL

Hotels and travel businesses expect business to pick up next month following the government's 22.4 billion-baht ($723 million) domestic tourism stimulus plan, announced last week.

The package, which is expected to stimulate 2 million domestic trips from July to October, includes subsidies on accommodation, transport, food and attractions.&nbsp;

Starting next month, Wocation, a tour agency that promotes mental health through craft workshops and group counselling, is looking to bring its workshops - which includes cooking and ceramic classes - to people's doorsteps.

"Crafts are used by some people to heal their minds, and that can be done at home, which also promotes social distancing," said Pasiree Parichani, co-founder of Wocation, a social enterprise based in the northern province of Chiang Mai.&nbsp;

An embroidery kit, for instance, would contain woven fabric and naturally dyed yarn sourced locally from Chiang Mai, with 20% of sales going towards locals.

In Bangkok's Klong Toey district, Wilaiwan Bidinlae saw her income from selling Thai dessert drop by half during the lockdown, losing many foreign customers who used to come in group tours organised by Local Alike.&nbsp;

The company helped package and market her best selling sweets - sticky rice with coconut milk and fried spring rolls - on its social media accounts, which has helped her survive during the crisis.&nbsp;

Klong Toey is the city's oldest and largest slum, but Wilaiwan says her partnership with Local Alike has helped change that perception.&nbsp;

As China’s capital city Beijing continues to report new cases of coronavirus, the city is set to enter a “fast track” testing mode.

The virus had reemerged in the city two weeks ago from a local food market. Analysts believed that the virus came from a chopping board, infecting those who ate anything touching that board, and further those who set off a chain of contact.

"We'll give priority to testing high-risk groups in Xinfadi and other markets involved in the outbreak as well as surrounding communities," Zhang said.

The US State Department said Monday it was reclassifying four organisations -- China Central Television, China News Service, the People's Daily and the Global Times -- as foreign missions rather than media outlets in the United States, adding to five others designated in February.

China has already expelled more than a dozen American journalists as part of the row.

On Tuesday Beijing decried the latest US move as "bare-faced political suppression of Chinese media" that "further exposes the hypocrisy of the so-called freedom of speech and press which the US likes to flaunt".

"We strongly urge the US to reject this Cold War mindset and ideological bias... otherwise China will have no choice but to make an appropriate response," said foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian at a routine briefing.

All nine Chinese state-run news organisations will be required to report details of their US-based staff and real estate transactions to the State Department. Their news reporting will not be restricted, officials said.

"These four entities are not media outlets; they are propaganda outlets," David Stilwell, the top US diplomat for East Asia, told reporters.

He declined to say if the four organisations would be asked to reduce their US-based staff, which was required of the five that were earlier designated.

The announcement was further evidence that a closed-door meeting last week in Hawaii between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and senior Chinese official Yang Jiechi did little to ease bilateral tensions.

The five state news outlets earlier designated as foreign missions were Xinhua news agency, China Global Television Network, China Radio International and the US distributors of the People's Daily and English-language China Daily.

After these outlets were ordered to slash their numbers of Chinese employees in the United States, Beijing hit back in March by expelling US citizens working for three major newspapers -- The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

Further retaliation?
Some media rights advocates have voiced misgivings about the approach of President Donald Trump's administration, saying it gave China a pretext to kick out journalists who have fearlessly reported on the coronavirus pandemic and the mass incarceration of Uighurs and other Turkic Muslims.

In February, China separately expelled three journalists from The Wall Street Journal after the newspaper ran an opinion piece with a headline that called the country the "sick man of Asia" -- a word choice Beijing called racist.

Stilwell, the assistant secretary of state, played down fears that China would expel more US journalists, saying the US actions were "simply an excuse" for Beijing to crack down on media.&nbsp;

"Trying to tie what we do to defend ourselves to what they choose to do -- to kick out the best investigative reporters, especially the ones who speak Chinese -- this is all their choice," he said.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

French schools opened their doors to greet pupils on Monday for what the government says is two weeks of obligatory lessons before the summer break, although many parents may yet defy the decision and keep their children at home.

Schools began reopening when the government eased its lockdown rules six weeks ago, but parents were allowed to keep their children at home and a strict health protocol meant that classes could only be half full.&nbsp;

French President Emmanuel Macron announced a full and "obligatory" return to school for primary and middle schools in an address to the nation earlier this month and the restrictions have now been amended.&nbsp;

"The objective is for 100% of primary school pupils and middle school students to return," Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer told France Inter radio on Monday, although the government has implied that no sanctions will be taken against rebellious parents.

The summer holidays begin in two weeks, but the government has argued that it is essential that children see their teachers and classmates again to end the year properly before breaking up for the two-month long break.&nbsp;

"I'm so pleased to be going back to school!" said 8-year-old Adele in front of a Parisian school, after her first morning with all her classmates.&nbsp;

Not far from Adele, 7-year-old Annika was also delighted. "I'm so happy to see my friends and teachers again. Learning at home isn't the same thing, school is better!"&nbsp;

Mixed response from parents
Parents dropping their children off were thrilled too.

"Oh, the joy! I've been waiting for this for a long time. My daughter is happy to go back and see her friends, and my wife can go back to work," said Maxime Aubin, father of two who lives in the northwest city of Rennes, in Brittany.&nbsp;

But not all parents are pleased.&nbsp;

A poll on Thursday by Odoxa-Dentsu Consulting for France Info and Le Figaro showed that only 45 per cent of parents were going to send their children back to school.

And 56 per cent think the obligatory return announced by Macron is "a bad decision".&nbsp;

"Many families won't take the risk of sending their children back to middle school," said Philippe Vincent from the majority union SNPDEN for headteachers.

In some middle schools, he pointed out, schoolbooks had already been returned and end-of-the-year teacher-student sessions completed.&nbsp;

From Monday, children from the same class can play together again, while ball games make their comeback on playgrounds.&nbsp;

Other precautionary measures will however remain -- thorough and frequent handwashing is obligatory and playing equipment must be disinfected daily or left in isolation for 24 hours.

The Indian capital territory of Delhi has come up with a new solution to deal with the ongoing influx of COVID-19 cases.

Delhi, officially a Union Territory, has been one of the hardest regions in the country. Now, to keep up with the increasing number of patients, luxury hotels in the city are being converted into care wards for the infected.

This marks the first&nbsp;government in the country to requisition its hotels. Starting today, June 22 -&nbsp;25 hotels across the capital city will be converted into coronavirus care centres. However, these will be used for people with mild to moderate symptoms. Severe cases will still be stationed in hospitals.

India’s healthcare system has been struggling as the number of cases continue to break records in the country everyday.

The novel coronavirus pandemic is still accelerating and its effects will be felt for decades, the World Health Organization's director-general told an online conference on Monday.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual health forum organised by Dubai authorities that the greatest threat facing the world is not the virus itself, but "the lack of global solidarity and global leadership".&nbsp;

We cannot defeat this pandemic with a divided world: WHO chief

Europeans are enjoying the gradual easing of coronavirus lockdown measures, but in hospitals they are already preparing for the next wave of infections.

Some intensive care specialists are trying to hire more permanent staff. Others want to create a reservist "army" of medical professionals ready to be deployed wherever needed to work in wards with seriously ill patients.&nbsp;

European countries have been giving medics crash courses in how to deal with COVID-19 patients, and are now looking at ways to retrain staff to avoid shortages of key workers if there is a second wave of the novel coronavirus.

"We need a healthcare army," said Maurizio Cecconi, president-elect of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), which brings together medics from around the world who work in wards with extremely ill patients.

Cecconi, who heads the intensive care department at the Humanitas hospital in Milan, says medical staff need to be more flexible in the work they do, and more mobile.

"If there is another big wave, we should be prepared to deploy doctors and nurses from nearby regions within Italy. This did not happen a lot in the first wave," he told Reuters.

Many countries were caught unprepared by the COVID-19 pandemic in March and April, and hastily retrained medics to work with patients with severe cases of the disease, to ramp up numbers and replace those who fell sick.

Some sent medical students and retired doctors to help out in intensive care wards as hospital staff were overwhelmed. Those worst-hit by the pandemic had to provide more beds and essential equipment for acute care units, and some built new hospitals.

But problems and shortages persist. Italy, for example, may need to boost by 50% the number of anaesthetists, resuscitation experts and other medics it has working in intensive care, according to the Italian society of intensive care SIAARTI.&nbsp;

CRASH COURSES

Across Europe, hospitals have been re-training surgeons, cardiologists, internal medicine physicians and nurses from other departments, and have moved them to intensive care units when needed.&nbsp;

Many have attended crash courses on how to handle COVID-19 patients, said Jozef Kesecioglu, president of ESICM and head of intensive care at the University Medical Center of Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

"We gave them jobs with less responsibility, such as washing patients, turning patients around, checking the lungs or looking at scans," he told Reuters.

Intensive care specialists had continued to do the most delicate work, such as handling tubes in patients' throats or adjusting mechanical ventilation, Kesecioglu said.

He plans to call back the same people to offer them more training. Under normal circumstances, intensive care workers undergo years of training but he said: "We should not wait until the new wave comes, we should give them regular training."&nbsp;

The Netherlands is trying to recruit more skilled workers and hopes to narrow structural gaps in the intensive care workforce, said Rotterdam's Erasmus Medical Centre, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe.&nbsp;

SIAARTI says medical students who specialise in intensive care medicine should be fully integrated into wards for the last two years of their five-year training, and has recommended financial incentives be offered to attract more students.&nbsp;

The European Commission, the European Union's executive, funded cross-border transfers of medical staff to the most affected countries at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

In April, teams of "flying doctors" were sent from Norway and Romania to Italy.

But the experiment has failed to gather much support, and Cecconi said moving doctors from one country to another "should be an option but not the first option," as language barriers may make them less effective.&nbsp;

Some patients were also moved around to receive treatment. France transferred some to less-affected regions of the country and sent others to Germany, which also took in COVID-19 patients from Italy.

But Cecconi warned of transportation risks and logistical complications.&nbsp;

"Often our patients are very sick," he said. "I'd rather have skilled people who know how to work in my environment."&nbsp;

Europeans are enjoying the gradual easing of coronavirus lockdown measures, but in hospitals they are already preparing for the next wave of infections. Some intensive care specialists are trying to hire more permanent staff. Others want to create a reservist "army" of medical professionals ready to be deployed wherever needed to work in wards with seriously ill patients. European countries have been giving medics crash courses in how to deal with COVID-19 patients, and are now looking at ways to retrain staff to avoid shortages of key workers if there is a second wave of the novel coronavirus. Also read: Coronavirus second wave triggered by May holiday: South Korea "We need a healthcare army," said Maurizio Cecconi, president-elect of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), which brings together medics from around the world who work in wards with extremely ill patients. Some sent medical students and retired doctors to help out in intensive care wards as hospital staff were overwhelmed. Those worst-hit by the pandemic had to provide more beds and essential equipment for acute care units, and some built new hospitals. But problems and shortages persist. Italy, for example, may need to boost by 50% the number of anaesthetists, resuscitation experts and other medics it has working in intensive care, according to the Italian society of intensive care SIAARTI. An Israeli company expects a fabric it has developed will be able to neutralise close to 99% of the coronavirus, even after being washed multiple times, following a successful lab test.

Sonovia's reusable anti-viral masks are coated in zinc oxide nano-particles that destroy bacteria, fungi and viruses, which it says can help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Tests in the Microspectrum (Weipu Jishu) lab in Shanghai had demonstrated that the washable fabric used in its masks neutralised more than 90% of the coronavirus to which it was exposed, Sonovia said on Monday.

Liat Goldhammer, Sonovia's chief technology officer, said that in the coming weeks the fabric, which can also be used in textiles for hospitals, protective equipment and clothing, will be able to neutralise almost 99% of the coronavirus.

Coronavirus generally spreads from person-to-person, when someone who is infected sneezes or coughs and releases infected droplets into the open, which may then be unknowingly inhaled by others nearby.

Even though primary transmission occurs among&nbsp;people, many people can contract the virus through contact with infected surfaces as well.

These include any hard surfaces such as walls, tabletops, plates, even masks!&nbsp;A new study, however claims that flushing incorrectly may be able to able spread coronavirus through faeces.

If you’re flushing the toilet with the seat up, you may be allowing little particles of faecal matter to be released into the air of your bathroom, allowing the virus to creep in. Early researches have shown how faeces contains and sustains the virus even after recovery, and that people in direct contact with infected faeces may be at risk of developing the virus.&nbsp;The virus can also live and multiply in the digestive system.

Not a major concern of worry, it may be one of the ways of latent transmission. However, it’s imperative to keep in mind that there’s still a lot that scientists do not know about the virus, for which vaccine development is underway around the world.

A team of researchers at the Yangzhou University in China have found that the water from a flushed toilet could spray particles upward into the air, as high as three-feet, which could be enough for the user to inhale those particles. And if they carry the virus, the person would then become infected.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, coronavirus has been referred to as the “silent killer”, for it affected large number of people without many developing apparent symptoms. Recently, as United States was said to have crossed its virus peak, the number of cases in six US states shot up in the aftermath of economies reopening.

Florida is one of the major US states attempting to resuscitate back to life after the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Recently, a group of 16 friends in the state of Florida who went to a bar came back home with coronavirus.

After testing positive, three of the 16 people told CNN that they wanted to “raise awareness” about the risks still associated with venturing outside, especially to bars.

After a few days, many developed symptoms, after which they all got tested, which revealed that most of them had in fact contracted the virus.

Scientists in the United Kingdom say they have found a major breakthrough in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Moving beyond remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine, UK has moved on to using dexamethasone, an anti-inflammatory steroid.

The University of Oxford released a study today which said that dexamethasone has saved the life of patients critically afflicted by coronavirus.

Being hailed as the next life-saving drug, it has cut deaths among the seriously affected patients surviving on ventilators.

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/gravitas-dexamethasone-a-breakthrough-in-coronavirus-fight-306367/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

By a fifth!

For those on oxygen supply, the death rate was cut by a fifth. This drug has proven to cut the number of coronavirus deaths. Half of the patients who usually need a ventilator after contracting coronavirus, do not survive.

Additionally, dexamethasone is cheap, priced at 5 Euros in the UK, and it globally available.

The steroid prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation, a nasty symptom of coronavirus infection that makes breathing difficult.&nbsp;

According to the reports, Daily doses of dexamethasone could prevent one in eight ventilated patient deaths and save one out of every 25 patients requiring oxygen alone, the team said.

It was first discovered in 1957 and is commonly prescribed to patients with allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis and some types of cancer.

“This is a result that shows that if patients who have COVID-19 and are on ventilators or are on oxygen are given dexamethasone, it will save lives, and it will do so at a remarkably low cost,” said Martin Landray, an Oxford University professor who is co-leading the trial.

Being hailed as the next life-saving drug, it has cut deaths among the seriously affected patients surviving on ventilators. The steroid prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation, a nasty symptom of coronavirus infection that makes breathing difficult.

UK makes a major breakthrough in treating COVID-19, and it's not hydroxychloroquine!

The Chinese capital reported 106 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases since June 11 and a senior city official warned that the situation is "extremely severe" in Beijing where authorities have mounted massive containment measures including mass testing of about 90,000 people.

After Beijing's COVID-19 infections increased, it seems that the capital has now become a "no-go zone" for other parts of China, as many places have raised an alert on travels to Beijing and strengthened health check on arrivals from Beijing, state-run Global Times reported.

The WHO’s emergency director--- Mike Ryan has said that the WHO is expecting the Chinese authorities to publish genetic sequencing of the virus in Beijing. They will but with the same sincerity -- with which China destroyed initial samples of Wuhan.

Every pandemic has over 2 to 3 waves, what's happening in Beijing is in all probability the signs of the second wave.
The world health organization did nothing the first time and the second time appears no different.

This time, the WHO does not even feel the need to mask its tilt towards China. Because amidst all of this Dr Tedros is planning to address university students in Beijing.&nbsp;

It is not like we are living through a pandemic but this pattern will keep repeating, China covering-up outbreaks and WHO covering up for China. China's financial hubs were spared during the first outbreak. This time, the cluster is in Beijing.

China's political stability depends entirely on its economic situation. If financial hubs are hit, the govt will face political consequences.

Xi Jinping should now take a break from crafty diplomacy-- and address the problem at home.
