A Pakistan anti-corruption court on Thursday ordered the seizure of assets of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his failure to appear in the Toshakhana graft case, days after he was declared an absconder in the matter that allegedly caused a heavy loss to the national exchequer.

The Islamabad-based accountability court was hearing the case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which submitted a detailed record of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo's movable and immovable properties.

The accountability Judge Asghar Ali ordered the authorities to freeze Sharif's national and international bank accounts and seize his 206 acres of agricultural land in Lahore and 12.75 acres in Sheikhupura, as well as his house in Murree in Punjab province.

Two tractors and cars that the 70-year-old leader allegedly obtained from the Toshakhana (state gift depository) after paying 15 per cent of the price are also included among assets the court has ordered to seize.

The Toshakhana graft case is about alleged relaxation of rules by Gilani, 68, for the benefit of Zardari, 65, and Sharif to buy vehicles gifted by foreign countries.

Sharif is accused of obtaining luxury cars from the treasury house by paying just 15 per cent of the price of these vehicles.

imilarly, Zardari and Gilani, are also accused of receiving luxury vehicles and gifts from the treasure house.

The court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Sharif in the case in June and the next month directed the Foreign Office to execute the arrest warrants through the Pakistan High Commission in London.

Last month, the court declared him a proclaimed offender after he failed to present himself before the court as he is in London for treatment for several health complications.

He went abroad after securing bail for medical treatment in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and the Al Azizia case.

His Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party in a meeting on Tuesday asked him to stay there until the completion of his treatment.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan asked relevant authorities to take steps to bring back Sharif from London and to ensure that the former premier faces the corruption cases pending against him in various Pakistani courts.

The three-time premier, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar were convicted in the Avenfield properties case on July 6, 2018. Sharif was also sentenced to seven years in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case in December 2018. But Sharif was bailed out in both cases and also allowed to go to London for medical treatment.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the army, the attack took place when terrorists opened fire at security forces while they were conducting patrolling to check terrorists` move at Shakai area of the district Sunday night, Xinhua reported.

The area was cordoned off for clearance operation, the statement said.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

His party has recently managed to establish a grand political alliance to take on Imran Khan. Almost all major opposition parties have joined the Pakistan Democratic Movement. They are planning to carry out a civil disobedience movement to dethrone Imran Khan. The protests will be launched next month. Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N plans on sustaining them till January next year. Lawyers, traders, farmers, students, journalists and everybody has been invited to join the movement.

It promises to be bigger than the so-called 'Tsunami March' which Imran Khan organised in 2014.

In fact, he was among the few civilian leaders to have friendly relations with the military establishment. But that did not take him anywhere.

He ended up getting deposed General Pervez Musharraf in 1999. Sharif was put on trial for corruption and he went in exile.

But he came back stronger in 2013. He became prime minister for the third time.&nbsp;

He is said to have told his confidantes that he would curtail the role of army and ascertain the supremacy of civilian governments in Pakistan forever. To add to that, the army saw Nawaz Sharif to have become pro-India.

He invited newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Islamabad. Pakistan Army didn't like this, it propped up Imran Khan. Panama leaks took place, the Azadi march followed. And the rest is history.

Why has Nawaz Sharif taken stance against Pakistan Army

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday discussed the Afghan peace process and strengthening of bilateral engagement.

During a telephonic conversation with Ghani, Khan reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast support to the Afghan peace process and noted the positive results of these efforts which culminated in the US-Taliban Peace Agreement and the commencement of Intra-Afghan Negotiations, according to an official statement.

He said that all stakeholders must work together to secure an inclusive and comprehensive political agreement through the Afghan-led and Afghan-owed process.

Maryam, who was at the Islamabad High Court for a hearing of an appeal against her conviction in the Avenfield property reference, was talking to media at the court premises.

"I don't know whether he was aware or learnt of it later...But the political leadership should not be called nor should it go to discuss such issues. Whoever wishes to discuss these issues should come to the parliament,''&nbsp;she said.

The meeting was reportedly held on September 16 before the All-Party Conference of opposition on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by about 15 opposition figures, including Sharif's younger brother Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid told the media that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan, but other political issues were also discussed.

After the partition in 1947,&nbsp;the Pakistani military focused its attention on the Indian border.&nbsp;The FATA remained largely ignored and were treated differently from the rest of Pakistan. The Pashtuns perpetually remained in the line of fire and were bereft of any benefits.&nbsp;

In 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan,&nbsp;the United States reached out to Pakistan.

In the alliance between Saudi, Pakistan and US&nbsp;funded mujahideen fighters and&nbsp;Fata served as the training ground for the operation.

America's alliance with Pakistan had unintended consequences and the Pashtuns were the casualty.

In the 1990s,&nbsp;Pakistan backed the Taliban. They fought for power in Afghanistan.

In 2001, America declared a war on the Taliban and&nbsp;took refuge in FATA.&nbsp;

Since 9/11,&nbsp;the tribal areas of Pakistan have become a major theatre for militancy and terrorism.

Under pressure from America,&nbsp;the Pakistani army has conducted 10 operations. While the&nbsp;terrorists flourished, but the pashtuns suffered.

By 2010,&nbsp;more than one million Pashtuns were displaced.&nbsp;

According to one report,&nbsp;at least 70 thousand Pashtuns have been killed in the last 16 years.&nbsp;More than one thousand tribal elders have been killed, thousands of Pashtuns have disappeared.&nbsp;The tribes are trapped as outsiders fight on their lands.

According to the United Nations Development Program,&nbsp;FATA has consistently ranked the lowest in education, health, and standard of living.&nbsp;

On average, a child in FATA spends less than seven years in a school and&nbsp;healthcare facilities are non-existent.

In 2018,&nbsp;FATA was merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but&nbsp;it made no difference to the life of the Pashtuns.

Until 2018, they didn't even enjoy any citizenship rights. Its unsettled legal status allowed the Pakistani military to exploit it. After the partition in 1947, the Pakistani military focused its attention on the Indian border. The FATA remained largely ignored and were treated differently from the rest of Pakistan. The Pashtuns perpetually remained in the line of fire and were bereft of any benefits. In 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, the United States reached out to Pakistan. In the alliance between Saudi, Pakistan and US funded mujahideen fighters and Fata served as the training ground for the operation. America's alliance with Pakistan had unintended consequences and the Pashtuns were the casualty. In the 1990s, Pakistan backed the Taliban. They fought for power in Afghanistan. In 2001, America declared a war on the Taliban and took refuge in FATA. Since 9/11, the tribal areas of Pakistan have become a major theatre for militancy and terrorism. Under pressure from America, the Pakistani army has conducted 10 operations. While the terrorists flourished, but the pashtuns suffered. By 2010, more than one million Pashtuns were displaced. According to one report, at least 70 thousand Pashtuns have been killed in the last 16 years. More than one thousand tribal elders have been killed, thousands of Pashtuns have disappeared. The tribes are trapped as outsiders fight on their lands. According to the United Nations Development Program, FATA has consistently ranked the lowest in education, health, and standard of living. On average, a child in FATA spends less than seven years in a school and healthcare facilities are non-existent. In 2018, FATA was merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but it made no difference to the life of the Pashtuns.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said that Pakistani Army's role had gone from being 'state within a state' to 'state above a state'. He was addressing a conference of opposition parties in Pakistan. All major parties within the opposition were in attendance for the conference. The conference was organised by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

Nawaz Sharif is currently in the UK. He addressed the conference via a video link. Sharif was given permission to leave Pakistan for four weeks by a court. But he extended his stay outside the country for medical reasons.

Addressing the conference, Sharif criticised the country's powerful establishment for allegedly supporting Khan.

"Our struggle is not against Imran Khan. Today, our struggle is against those who installed Imran Khan and who manipulated elections (of 2018) to bring an inefficient man like him into power and thus destroyed the country," he said.

Sharif said that the foremost priority should be to remove "this selected government and this system", adding that "if the change is not brought, it will bring irreversible loss to this country.?

He asked the powerful Army to stay away from politics and follow the Constitution and vision of the country's father 'Quaid-e-Azam' Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

"It is very important that our armed forces stay away from our governmental system according to our Constitution and the Quaid's speech, and not interfere with the people's choice. We have made this country a joke in our own eyes and internationally as well," he said.

Sharif pointed out that former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani once said that there was "a state within a state" in Pakistan.

Before Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari also addressed the conference through a video-link and criticised the government which he said was using the tactics to suppress the Opposition.

"Such incidents ruin the lives of victims and their families also have to suffer," he said.

Khan was referring to the gang-rape of a French-Pakistani woman in front of her three children near a highway in Lahore on September 9 which sparked widespread outrage.

He said the legislation being prepared would not only provide for exemplary punishment for rape and child abuse offences, but would also contain provisions for registration of sex offenders and effective policing, the report said.

He admitted that only a very small percentage of such cases were reported to police in the country.

Even after the arrest of offenders in rape and child abuse cases, their conviction is not easy in absence of proper prosecution and concrete evidence. For this reason, the bill being prepared would also provide for witness protection, he said.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested the suspects, including ring leader Abdul Latif, at the Lahore's passport office.

Previously, the FIA arrested a number of suspects involved in illegal organ transplant, especially in Punjab, where the people from the Gulf often visited for kidney procedures.

According to FIA Punjab Deputy Director Sardar Mavarhan Khan, on receiving information that an international gang was active in Lahore in illegal transplant of human organs in China, a team conducted a raid at the passport office and arrested seven suspects, including donors and agents.

"The agents would allegedly motivate poor and needy people to sell their liver and kidney and then had the organ transplant conducted in China. During preliminary investigation it has transpired that the agents had contacts in China where they managed to get the organ transplant conducted by Chinese doctors," he said.

"This is the first time that such a gang has been unearthed which is involved in illegal human organ transplant in China. An agent pays around Rs 400,000 to a donor and arranges his travel to the country. A recipient usually reaches there (China) on his own. This gang has transported around 30 people to China for the purpose so far,''&nbsp;Khan added.

The FIA said that recipients of organs usually come from the Gulf, India and Bangladesh and also from Pakistan.

A case has been registered against the suspects under sections 10, 11 Punjab Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amended) Act 2012.
