The Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan&rsquo;s first global cricket event in nearly three decades, turned into a massive financial and logistical failure. The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/pakistan-cricket-board">Pakistan Cricket Board</a> (PCB) suffered an 85 per cent loss after investing $100 million but hosting only one completed home match.
<h2>Financial setback</h2>
According to The Telegraph, the PCB spent PKR 18 billion ($58 million) upgrading three venues&mdash;Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi&mdash;exceeding their budget by 50 per cent. An additional $40 million was spent on event preparations. However, the revenue generated from hosting fees, ticket sales, and sponsorships amounted to just $6 million, leading to a staggering $85 million loss.

In the aftermath, Pakistani cricketers faced severe pay cuts. Match fees in the National T20 Championship were slashed by 90 per cent, and reserve player payments saw an 87.5 per cent reduction. While players were shifted to budget accommodations, Pakistan Cricket Board officials reportedly continued drawing hefty salaries.
According to Dawn, match fees were reduced from $460 to $115 without any official announcement. However, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/mohsin-naqvi">Mohsin Naqvi</a> later intervened, revising the amount to $345 per match, still $115 lower than the previous year.
Despite the investment, the tournament saw shockingly low attendance, especially in matches involving the Pakistan cricket team.
The opening game between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi had significant empty stands, a sight that was unexpected for a cricket-loving nation. Security concerns, high ticket prices, lack of promotional efforts, and the team&rsquo;s dismal on-field performances contributed to the diminishing interest among fans.

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy dream turns into an $85 million nightmare

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed displeasure over the ICC's omission of its CEO from the Champions Trophy closing ceremony. Despite hosting the event, no PCB representative was included. The PCB plans to address the matter with the ICC.

Pakistan batter Saud Shakeel recently did what the national team has been doing for quite some time now - caught napping as the game moves on. Shakeel's instance, however, only impacted him mostly and the team to some extent as he was given time out for arriving late on the crease during the domestic President's Trophy.
The incident happened on day 2 (Mar 5) of the domestic red-ball tournament final between State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and PTV. The SBP were going good at 128/1 when Umar Amin and Fawad Alam fell to Muhammad Shahzad on consecutive balls.

Caught unware, Shakeel reached the crease beyond the stipulated time of three minutes. As soon as he arrived, opposition captain Amad Butt appealed and Shakeel was given time out. He became only the seventh batter to be given time out in history of first-class cricket.
After Shakeel departed, Shahzad dismissed Irfan Khan on the fist ball and completed his hat-trick as SBP were reduced to 128/5 from 128/1 in space of three balls.
The game was also played in unique situation - in overnight format. The final began on Mar 4 - after the holy month of Ramazan started. During the month, devout Muslims keep fast (no food or water) throughout the day for 30 days and only eat post sunset and before sunrise.
Keeping in mind the heat during the day time coupled with no food or water situation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) kept the timings of the game from 7:30 pm to 2:30 am (next day).
As for the match, PTV bowled out SBP for 205 in the first innings after getting an opening. For SBP, Imran Butt top scored with 89 while his opening partner Rameez Aziz contributed 40 runs. For PTV, Shahzad took 5/22 and Ali Usman took 2/10.

Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has refuted retirement rumours after the team's dismal performance in the Champions Trophy. The hosts were knocked out of the tournament after two consecutive losses in the first two group-stage matches against New Zealand and India.
Zaman played only one game in the tournament, against New Zealand, during which he got injured in the first over of the match and left the field immediately. He did return to bat but was not his usual self as he laboured to a 41-ball 24. Pakistan lost the match by 60 runs.

"I heard about this [retirement rumours] a lot and even my friends messaged me about it, but there's nothing to it," Fakhar said while talking to PCB Digital. "The ODI format is my favourite format. Yes with my thyroid, there was a thing that I could take more time getting back into it. But I want to play T20s, ODIs, even Tests again. As far as my comeback is concerned, I spoke to the doctor and I can start playing cricket again within the month."
"The doctor has advised me that I can start training again in three weeks. So I think I should be back to playing cricket in a month's time."
Fakhar had come to the side as a replacement to Saim Ayub but Imam ul Haq was eventually the player who went on to play the game against India. Imam, however, could manage only 10 runs before being run out on a direct throw by Axar Patel.
Pakistan coach Aaqib Javed, meanwhile, has blamed 'inexperience' for his team's humiliating loss against India in the Champions Trophy on Feb 23 in Dubai.
"When Pakistan and India are playing, it's not only cricket - it's more than that. You need a lot of experience," Javed said, as reported by cricket news website ESPNCricinfo.&nbsp;

Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammad Rizwan to lead Pakistan's 15-man squad; Fakhar Zaman returns

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had an eventful Friday (Nov 29) as they were forced to postpone their meeting without a conclusion with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the hosting rights of Champions Trophy 2025. However, according to the latest reports, PCB is set to accept the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy or risk losing the entire hosting rights of the tournament. ICC has given PCB until Saturday to decide on their latest stance with them mostly likely to agree on the hybrid model.

<h2>Champions Trophy in hybrid model?</h2>

According to a report by India Today, ICC has given PCB to mull over the hybrid model in the next 24 hours. In case they don’t accept the hybrid model, Pakistan will risk losing the hosting rights and therefore, expected revenue in multiple million dollars. PCB will be reluctant to miss out on hefty revenue and could be tempted to host the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model.

<h2>What happened in today’s meeting?</h2>

With the meeting scheduled for 4:00 PM IST, the meeting was attended by members of all parties including the PCB and BCCI with few members attending virtually. However, after a request from two PCB directors, the meeting will now take place on Saturday. The meeting lasted less than 60 minutes with a possible solution likely to be out on Saturday.

As things stand, the ICC still has three options to decide on the outcome of hosting the Champions Trophy. The best possible option is hosting the CT 2025 in a hybrid model with India playing its matches outside Pakistan while the rest of the teams play in the Islamic nation.

The second option is to postpone the tournament until a solution is met between the PCB and BCCI, meaning a new window will be required to accommodate the tournament.

The final option includes either forfeiting India’s matches or playing the tournament without the two-time champions if they decide to stand with their current stance of not visiting Pakistan. However, this option is unlikely considering India’s brand value in the world of cricket. Broadcasting and ticket revenue could take a serious hit if India is dropped from the event. &nbsp;

Champions Trophy 2025: ICC meeting with PCB, BCCI postponed until Saturday after request from board members

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has called a board meeting on November 29 to decide on the venue of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 event. The tournament, originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan, has been in limbo ever since India's refusal to travel to the country.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send India to Pakistan after the Government of India denied the permission given the political tensions and the same was communicated to the ICC about two weeks ago. Pakistan, on the other hand, is steadfast on hosting the tournament entirely in the country and has not accepted the BCCI's demand to host it under a hybrid model – thus the stalemate.

As per cricket news website ESPNCricinfo, the apex body hopes to reach a conclusion on November 29 in the board meeting. The ICC board constitutes representatives from 12 full states, three representatives from associates, an independent director and the CEO and chairman as well.

This would also be the last board meeting under outgoing chief George Barclays who is set to be replaced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah on December 1.

The ICC, because of the stalemate, hasn't even announced the dates or schedule of the tournament.&nbsp;

Both countries do not play bilateral cricket due to political tensions. The two sides have only met in ICC events since 2012.

India had decided not to play in Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023 last year as well and the tournament was played under a hybrid model with India's games being scheduled in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, however, travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 immediately after the ODI WC and hoped for India to return the favour.

The Champions Trophy is expected to be played from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan: Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore.

Champions Trophy 2025 moving out of Pakistan? ICC calls board meeting to decide on final venue

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been handed a huge setback in the build-up to the Champions Trophy 2025 on Friday (Nov 15). The International Cricket Council (ICC) has cancelled the trophy tour in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) regions of Skardu, Murree, and Muzaffarabad.

<h2>ICC cancels CT tour</h2>

As learned on Friday, the ICC will not tour the coveted trophy in the sensitive regions of the border as the nations are yet to reach a compromise on the travel-related issues. Despite being the official hosts of the Champions Trophy, PCB has found it difficult to reach an agreement with ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to stage India’s matches in the nation. India informed ICC in the midweek that they won’t be travelling to Pakistan for the CT and the same was then informed by the ICC to PCB.

As reported by WION earlier, the PCB wrote a letter to the ICC and has asked for clarification on why India is not travelling to Pakistan despite other nations having no issues.

<h2>Champions Trophy to be held in hybrid model?</h2>

As things stand, with less than three months to go for the Champions Trophy to start Pakistan is not yet confident of hosting the entire tournament with the Indian team reluctant to travel. Pakistan’s proposal to host India’s matches including the final has been rejected by the BCCI, leaving ICC with three options.

Like 2008, the Champions Trophy could be postponed until a solution is met as the ICC could explore the idea. On the other hand, India’s reluctance to travel could force them out of the tournament if they are forfeited. However, that option looks unlikely due to India’s brand value in cricket and Jay Shah set to become the chairperson of the board of directors of ICC.

The hybrid model remains the best option and likely option to host the Champions Trophy with India’s matches to take place outside Pakistan while the rest of the seven teams play in the nation.

Champions Trophy 2025: ICC cancels trophy tour in PoK, day after PCB's announcement

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is left in limbo as less than three months remain before the Champions Trophy officially starts. Scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 8, seven teams have confirmed participation in the tournament, while India is reluctant to participate if the entire Champions Trophy is held in Pakistan. This leaves the ICC with a major issue to resolve, creating uncertainty over the tournament’s future.

<h2>ICC with a decision in hand</h2>

Currently, apart from India, all nations have given green signal&nbsp;to play in the Asian subcontinent. However, India is insisting on a hybrid model and has cleared their stance by writing to the ICC of their intent to not travel to Pakistan for the coveted tournament. In this case, the ICC has two major options to settle the issue and clear the air over the Champions Trophy.

<h2>Postpone Champions Trophy</h2>

The most likely and favourable option for the ICC is to postpone the tournament for a future date until a compromise is reached between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the hosting issues. While India is reluctant to travel to Pakistan, PCB on Tuesday wrote to the ICC that they will not stage the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model and will host all matches in their homeland.

“India must give solid grounds and reasoning for not coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. If other teams can come to Pakistan, why can’t India?” the details of the letter included.

“Champions Trophy will be held only in Pakistan, we will not be accepting a hybrid model. Previously, when teams refused to attend matches elsewhere, the match was considered forfeited and points were given to the opponent team as we have seen in the past. Also, when a team has refused to attend matches elsewhere, as per the rule, the next in line team has been considered for the tournament itself,” PCB’s letter further added.

In case the Champions Trophy is postponed, it will be the second time that Pakistan will face such a situation. In 2008 ICC decided to pull the trigger and take away the hosting rights from Pakistan after a period of unrest in the nation due to terrorist activities. South Africa instead hosted the Champions Trophy in 2009 September.

<h2>Unlikely option: Exclude India</h2>

If ICC decides to go according to their rules and regulations, India’s reluctance to travel could see them either get excluded from the tournament or get their matches fortified. However, ICC is unlikely to take this step considering the brand value of the Indian Cricket Team. Having the Indian team excluded could see them missing out on huge revenue from television rights, digital rights and stadium ticket sales. ICC will not take a hit on its revenue model as India remains a major player in the market.

Also from December 1, BCCI secretary Jay Shah will take office as the new chairperson of the ICC board of directors. This means he won’t favour an ICC tournament without India.

Champions Trophy: What steps can ICC take if India and Pakistan don't reach a compromise over current stand?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday (Nov 12) wrote&nbsp;a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their stance to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. Exclusively learned by WION, the PCB is reluctant to compromise on their hosting bid and wants to stage the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan after India refused to travel to the nation. The PCB is also reluctant to compromise on the hybrid model which enables an unofficial co-host to stage India’s matches.

According to WION’s Anas Mallick, PCB has given certain grounds for their non-compromise stance which also includes the exclusion of India from the Champions Trophy if they don’t travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

Currently, the ICC is in limbo considering neither India nor Pakistan is ready to take a step back from their demands. This could result in the postponement of the Champions Trophy 2025 until a solution is found. The hybrid model also saw Sri Lanka host the Asia Cup final.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9 with eight teams participating while India’s participation still remains in limbo.

CT 2025: PCB pens letter to ICC after India refuses to travel, says 'we will not be accepting a hybrid model'

The ICC officially wrote to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday (Nov 11), informing them of BCCI’s stance of not sending the Indian Team across the border for the Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for early next year. The Indian Cricket Board informed the ICC of sticking to their final call to not send their team to Pakistan for the eight-team tournament, with the PCB referring the matter to the Pakistan government.

In response to the Indian government and BCCI’s stern stance, the PCB mulls boycotting playing India at all levels worldwide.

Due to tense political relations, India and Pakistan haven’t played&nbsp;any bilateral games&nbsp;since 2012/13, when Pakistan last visited India for a white-ball series. The two Asian giants, however, have faced off in ICC events and the Asia Cup tournaments since.&nbsp;

Even last year, when Pakistan was supposed to host the six-team Asia Cup, the BCCI decided against sending the team for the coveted tournament; as a result, Sri Lanka got added as the last-minute co-host, staging all India games, including the final, which the Men in Blue won by 10 wickets.

While the BCCI insisted on bringing in a neutral venue to host all India matches, reports from Pakistan suggest that the PCB is unwilling to agree to the hybrid model; in their response, the PCB is preparing to boycott playing India across tournaments irrespective of FTP commitments.

"I discussed this with them and my team, and our stance is clear: they need to give us in writing any objections they may have. Until now, no discussion of the hybrid model has happened, nor are we prepared to accept one. The Indian media are reporting it, but no formal communication has reached the PCB," board chairman Naqvi said on Friday.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, reputed Pakistan cricket journalist and expert Nauman Niaz took to social media (X) to inform everyone of the latest developments.&nbsp;

ICC informs Pakistan of no India presence at Champions Trophy; PCB to boycott playing Men in Blue in response

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted its first draft of the proposed schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday (Nov 7). Pakistan, set to host the Champions Trophy has proposed several venues including Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The stadium has also been proposed to host India’s group-stage matches and the final of the Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy is set to take place from Feb 19 to Mar 9 with India’s participation yet to be confirmed. &nbsp;

<h2>PCB proposes Lahore for India’s matches</h2>

According to WION’s Anas Mallick, PCB on Thursday submitted the draft schedule that includes staging all of India’s matches in Lahore. Situated in the Punjab province, Lahore is geographically the closest city to India with an international cricket stadium, providing flexibility to the Indian team to travel back to their homeland within a few minutes, in case Rohit Sharma’s men disagree on staying in Pakistan.

Lahore has also been proposed to host the final of the Champions Trophy further helping the Indian team to stay in proximity to their homeland in case they reach the final.

The Indian cricket team has not travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup as diplomatic relations between the nations hit low after the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The PCB is determined to host the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan thereby avoiding a hybrid model which was in use when Pakistan was the host of the 2023 Asia Cup. The model allowed India to play its matches in Sri Lanka while other nations played in Pakistan.

<h2>Other proposals on the table</h2>

The proposal further adds the curtain-raiser clash will be hosted in Karachi between hosts Pakistan and Australia. India will kick start their campaign against Bangladesh in Lahore on 20th February while playing New Zealand on 23rd February. The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place on March 1 in Lahore.

Gary Kirsten stepped down as the white-ball coach of Pakistan on Monday (Oct 28). Just six months into his job, the former South African opener shocked one and all by resigning from his post. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief&nbsp;Mohsin Naqvi has now made some shocking claims that Kirsten breached his contract. Naqvi also revealed that Pakistan will have a new white-ball coach before their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

Naqvi told the media in a recent interaction, "He (Kirsten) broke his contract with the PCB and made some breaches. He ended the contract with us. We will have a new white ball head coach by the end of this month because Jason Gillespie has only agreed to manage the team in Australia for the white ball matches on an interim basis. He is more focused on his role as red ball head coach. The team will have a new white ball coach for the Zimbabwe tour."

The PCB, however, didn't give details behind Kirsten's sudden resignation. However, according to a PTI report, it is believed that it all happened because Kirsten wasn't involved when the PCB announced the squads for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe and Australia and&nbsp;the new limited-overs captain (a role taken over by Mohammad Rizwan).

Further, the sources&nbsp;claimed that Kirsten had breached some clauses of his contract by not spending enough time in Pakistan and also insisted on having a full foreign coaching support staff. Thus, this wasn't well received by the PCB.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly trimmed the men’s selection committee as the skippers and head coaches of the side will no longer serve in that capacity. According to a report on Thursday (Oct 17), PCB has trimmed the committee to five members and plans to not extend it beyond. This comes after former umpire Aleem Dar was added to the committee along with four other members.

<h2>No more captains, coaches in selection committee</h2>

According to a report from Cricbuzz, the committee will no longer comprise the above-mentioned capacities, with the new panel already in praise for team selection during the ongoing Test match against England. The development comes less than a week after PCB decided to overhaul the selection committee. As things stand, Aleem Dar, Aaqib Javed, and Azhar Ali are part of the selection process, with veterans like Asad Shafiq, Hasan Cheema, and various other PCB officials also joining them.

The move also comes at a point when Pakistan no longer has a white-ball captain after Babar Azam decided to resign from his post for the second time in less than 12 months. Azam was also dropped from the Pakistan team from the Playing XI against England in the Test in Multan with a recommendation from the panel. This trimming also included Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, despite them being integral members of the white-ball set-up.

<h2>Pakistan have England on the mat in Multan</h2>

England need 261 runs more to win the second Test match in Multan with eight wickets in hand and result is possible on Friday with the Bazball approach of the visitors. Ben Stokes’ side leads the series 1-0 having beaten Pakistan at the same venue last week while records tumbled left, right and centre. If Pakistan manage to get the better of England in the second Test they will draw the series at 1-1 with one more match to go.

If Pakistan manage to get the better of England in the second Test they will draw the series at 1-1 with one more match to go.

PCB drops captains, head coaches from selection committee in latest overhaul: Report

The PCB could reportedly sack Shan Masood as the Test captain after Pakistan's embarrassing inning and 47 runs defeat against England in the first Test in Multan. The hosts attained several unwanted records in their shallow performance, becoming the first team in all of Test history to lose a Test by an inning after scoring over 500 runs (556) in the first inning.&nbsp;

Per the latest reports emerging out of Pakistan's Samaa TV, the board might sack Masood ahead of the start of the second Test at the same venue on Tuesday (Oct 15), with Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel and Salman Ali Agha handpicked as options to replace him.

Masood was among the two centurions for Pakistan in the first Test but failed to guide his team to a maiden Test win under his leadership, losing all six matches he led. Besides, Multan's Test result was Pakistan's seventh loss in this format at home since 2022.&nbsp;

Shortly after the PCB removed Babar Azam from all-format captaincy late last year, the board appointed Masood as the new Test skipper. Since his appointment, Pakistan faced Australia in an away series, Bangladesh at home, and now hosting England (with the first Test over), losing all.&nbsp;

With the pressure piling on the captain and the team, who are languishing at the bottom of the current WTC standings, the board is bound to react strongly.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, right after the game was over, Masood reflected on the shocking loss, saying it was a team game and that Pakistan would return to the drawing board working on turning the tables around in the remaining two matches.

"We love playing the game, we're hurt by the results, we're hurt as a nation, but need a quick turnaround. We're not getting the results that Pakistan cricket deserves. We have to get this right as a squad," Masood said to the reporters after the first Test.&nbsp;

<h2>England hurt Pakistan in Multan</h2>

After Pakistan scored a whopping 556 in the first innings, England went bonkers in theirs, scoring 267 more than that (823/7 dec), with Joe Root (262) and Harry Brook (317) adding 454 for the fourth wicket – the highest partnership for any pair for any wicket for England in Tests.

Pakistan failed to gain momentum in the second innings, losing six wickets inside 150 at stumps on day four. The first session on day five was a mere formality for the tourists, who wrapped up Pakistan's innings in no time.&nbsp;

Former International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire Aleem Dar&nbsp;is the latest inductee into the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) men’s selection committee after it was confirmed on Friday (Oct 11). Dar, who has officiated in high-profile matches in major ICC tournaments will now serve as a member of the selection committee alongside prominent names like Aqib Javed, Azhar Ali and Hasan Cheema. However, netizens did not sit back and took a dig at the PCB as Pakistan cricket is already enduring a tough period on the field.

<h2>What is the matter?</h2>

In a rare incident, the PCB has opted to appoint the former umpire to be part of the player’s selection committee which has raised eyebrows. Generally, the selection committee consists of former players and coaches with playing backgrounds. However, Dar lacks experience in the playing side having only been part of the big occasions as an umpire.

While his credentials as an umpire are unmatched, it will be interesting to see what changes Dar and Co bring to the fortunes of the Pakistan Cricket team.

Pakistan cricket is currently on its low with the latest loss against England in Multan being another downfall. Despite scoring 556 runs in their first innings, Pakistan lost the match by an inning in what was another low for the side.

'No ball decision,' PCB roasted for ex-umpire Aleem Dar's appointment in selection committee

Pakistan cricket team is in shambles. The Men in Green couldn't reach the 2023 ODI World Cup semifinals, in India, got whitewashed in the three Tests versus hosts Australia, lost five T20Is to New Zealand 4-1 in New Zealand, lost to USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup and failed to make it to the Super 8s. After that, they also got whitewashed by Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home. They have not won a Test at home since early 2022.

Thus, former Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas opined on the men's national team's downfall in recent times, especially in Tests. He slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and also made a big claim about the players.

<h2>'Players are only focused on making money'</h2>

Abbas was quoted as saying by news agency&nbsp;ANI, "There's too much T20 cricket being played in Pakistan, and because of that, our players have forgotten the essence of Test cricket. This is why we're not performing well in the longer format. So much money has come into cricket that the players today are only focused on making money, and their attention is diverted from the game itself."

He added, "It is the misfortune of Pakistan cricket that those who run it do not understand cricket. We took Pakistan cricket to great heights. The world admired our cricket. But today, those in charge are only concerned with their own interests, not with cricket or the players."

Recently, Babar Azam stepped down as the white-ball captain. While he was only appointed as the T20I captain, PCB was reportedly keen to reappoint him as the limited-overs skipper before his sudden resignation came on Wednesday (Oct 2).&nbsp;

Players are only focused on making money: Zaheer Abbas on Pakistan's downfall, lashes out at PCB

Pakistan cricket is in a tottering state with the men's team having a terrible run, across formats, since the 2023 ODI World Cup. At present, the pressure is on the women's team to shine in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, in UAE. Amid all this, there are reports flowing in that the Babar Azam-starrer men's team have not received salaries for the last three months. Moreover, the situation is the same for the women's&nbsp;side who are playing the T20 WC without being paid since June.

According to a report by&nbsp;PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are yet to clear the salaries of the last three months for the men's team. "For the last three months the players are waiting for their payments and also an announcement of the central contracts list,” said the source, highlighting the growing frustration among players.

Notably, the previous central contract agreement between the PCB and players, many aspects such as significant benefits, including salary increases were negotiated. Players in Category A, featuring the likes of Babar, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi, earn monthly retainers of 4.5 million rupees after tax deductions. In addition, they receive a share from logo sponsorships as well as three&nbsp;percent of the revenues the PCB generates from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

This year, players' share of ICC revenue comes to approximately 1.53 million rupees each. However, payment delays have led to huge&nbsp;concerns. In addition, the report cites&nbsp;that the PCB has attributed the delay to administrative issues and pending revenue from various sources.

"The PCB is spending a lot on the complete facelift of the three stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi for the ICC Champions Trophy, besides other cricket-related expenses. But the dues of players would be cleared this month," the source further said.

Future central contract increments, slated for 2024-25 and 2025-26, does promise a substantial rise&nbsp;in players' earnings. In Category A, retainers are expected to see a rise to 2,070,000 rupees a month, with corresponding hikes for players in Categories B, C, and D. However, all this seems out of the picture due to the current administrative delays.

Interestingly, the situation&nbsp;for the women's team is no better. The women's team as well as the domestic players and Pakistan Super League franchises are&nbsp;facing considerable payment delays. "Last year also the central contracts announcement was delayed right until the World Cup began in India, and this year there is more delay," said the source. With no official contract list released as of now, the frustration is growing among&nbsp;players as they await clarity from the PCB.&nbsp;

Talking about the Fatima Sana-led Pakistan&nbsp;team, they opened their campaign in the T20 WC with an impressive 31-run win over Sri Lanka, in defence of 116, on Thursday (Oct 3) in Sharjah.

Pakistan players awaiting salaries for last 3 months, women's team playing T20 WC without being paid: Report

It was yet another chaotic evening in Pakistan cricket on Tuesday (Oct 1),&nbsp;Babar Azam handed in his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from white-ball captaincy. This is the second time in less than 12 months that the veteran batter has handed in&nbsp; his resignation from the captaincy role, highlighting the lack of proper management in the nation’s apex cricket body. However, the PCB has adored his commitment to the side and accepted his resignation.

<h2>PCB adores Babar’s commitment</h2>

“Although the PCB had backed Babar Azam as the white-ball captain, his decision to step down reflects his desire to focus more on making a greater impact as a player. This decision is a testament to his professionalism and commitment to Pakistan cricket. He believes that dedicating himself fully to his batting will enable him to play a more decisive role in the team’s success in the shorter formats,” said PCB in a statement.

Babar has been in a poor run of form in recent times and was on the gunshot of plenty of criticism. Part of the criticism came in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh, where the hosts lost 0-2, an embarrassing defeat on home soil.

Babar, who was reinstated as the captain of the white-ball side in March, had earlier resigned from all forms after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in India. Pakistan were eliminated in the league phase of the tournament. He was again at the centre of criticism after they were eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies.

It is now speculated that Babar will be dropped from the T20 squad and will be available only for the ODI and Test squads to reduce the burden on his shoulders. He will have a point to prove in the upcoming Test series against England, which will serve as a litmus test for Babar, whose form has&nbsp;hit a rough patch.

PCB accepts Babar Azam's resignation as skipper; adores his professionalism, commitment to Pakistan cricket

Shan Masood has endured some tough questions since taking up Pakistan’s Test captaincy from star batter Babar Azam; however, never before has any journalist been interrupted for disrespecting him the way it happened in the latest instance during the pre-series presser in the country. With Pakistan set to host England for three Tests, Masood attended the first press conference, where the PCB’s media director had to cut short the session because of one journalist’s ‘awkward question’ to the Test captain.

In a video doing rounds on social media, journalist&nbsp;Javed Iqbal, asked Masood, “You have said you will avail the offer of captaincy until it is on the table. But isn’t there some drive from your conscience that you have lost, aren’t performing well, and should leave it?”&nbsp;

To which, the Test skipper looked at the PCB’s director of media and communications, Sami ul Hasan, who interrupted the conversation and defused the tension with some stern words. He discontinued the presser and openly called out the journalist, asking him to be respectful while questioning the Pakistan Test captain.

“Thank you for all your questions and support. One last request: Pakistan’s captain is sitting here, absolutely ask your questions, but please show your respect,” Hasan said.

“Particularly I’m referring to Javed, because not the appropriate way of asking the Pakistan captain the question that you asked,” he continued.

<h2>Pakistan ready for England series</h2>

It was a horrid show for the hosts when England last toured Pakistan in late 2022 and won all three Test matches. While most of the players from the touring team that were there the last time are still around, England aren’t in the best of forms heading into the series.

On the other hand, Pakistan has to avenge the last time’s defeat, with the onus falling on the star players, including the captain, Babar, keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, and the&nbsp;pace duo of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

The first Test match begins in Multan on October 7, with the second and the third starting on 15 and 24 in Multan and Rawalpindi, respectively.&nbsp;

With Pakistan set to host England for three Tests, Masood attended the first press conference, where the PCB’s media director had to cut short the session because of one journalist’s ‘awkward question’ to the Test captain. But isn’t there some drive from your conscience that you have lost, aren’t performing well, and should leave it?” To which, the Test skipper looked at the PCB’s director of media and communications, Sami ul Hasan, who interrupted the conversation and defused the tension with some stern words. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ended their 'connection camp' with a discussion around unity among the players and with the board. The connection camp was organised in the aftermath of Pakistan's recent losses to lowly ranked teams.

Ever since the 50-over World Cup, PCB has seen multiple chairmen and a couple of changes in captaincy as well as coaches. Babar Azam was stripped off the captaincy from all formats before being handed the T20I captaincy just one series after Shaheen Afridi lost 5-0 vs Australia.

Pakistan also saw new coaches joining - Gary Kirsten for limited overs and Jason Gillespie for Tests. Kirsten also pointed out lack of unity in Pakistan team a while back but was happy with the depth of talent in the country during the domestic Champions Cup. Kirsten's statement were juxtaposed to chairman Mohasin Naqvi who said Pakistan don't have a huge talent pool to draw from.

"I've been here the last 12 days or so watching the Champions Cup and have been really encouraged at the depth of quality of players in this tournament," Kirsten said as reported by the cricket news website ESPNCricinfo.

Gillespie, on the other hand, was happy with the discussion and stressed that their job as coaches is to implement ways to be more effective.

"Because we're new to the job, our job is to listen and learn and look to implement ways where we can be more effective as players, as a team, and as coaches. What was really clear today was the pride the Pakistan players have in playing for Pakistan and how they want to inspire the country. That was really exciting to hear," said Gillespie.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved the revised schedule of the upcoming England series, with Multan to host the first two Tests, while Rawalpindi will stage the final match of the marquee series. Per the original itinerary, Karachi was to host the second game, but because the renovation work is underway at the National Stadium, the board decided against going ahead with it.

While Karachi, where England completed their historic clean sweep over Pakistan the last time in 2022, was out of the window, Rawalpindi wasn't considered an option due to a major international conference in Islamabad from October 15-16.

With each passing day, cricket fans are nearing the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled in Pakistan during the February-March window next year. Though plenty has happened behind the scenes in the past month, including Jay Shah's appointment as the new ICC chair, which could eventually decide CT venue fate, the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is confident that Pakistan will retain the hosting rights, with the PCB constantly in touch with the BCCI secretary.

During the latest media interaction, Naqvi sounded optimistic about BCCI and the Indian Government allowing the Indian Team to travel to Pakistan for the first time since 2008 for the multi-team tournament. &nbsp;

“Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, we are in touch with the BCCI Secretary,” PCB chairman Naqvi said during a media interaction, as quoted by The Indian Express. “[We are] also in contact with the boards of the teams participating in the Champions Trophy.”

Even last year, when Pakistan was supposed to host the 2023 Asia Cup, the BCCI decided against sending the team, with the Asian Cricket Council, headed by Jay Shah, deciding to add Sri Lanka as the co-host, with all India games rescheduled in the Island Nation, including the final.

Besides, the PCB began preparations for the eight-team tournament, with construction resuming at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The remaining two venues finalised for the Champions Trophy are the National Stadium in Karachi and Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.

“The basement of Gaddafi Stadium will be constructed by September 30. Each floor will be completed in a three-week period. The front building would consist of a steel structure. The main building of Gaddafi Stadium will be completed by December 31.

“Pindi Stadium will have to be completely demolished and rebuilt; the seats will be installed in the stadium before the Champions Trophy. The renovation at Karachi’s [National Stadium] will also be completed before the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi concluded.

<h2>BCCI has yet to take final call</h2>

Despite being approached several times, the BCCI officials have kept mum over their stance of not sending the Indian Team across the border.

Neither the BCCI President Roger Binny nor Shah has given any verdict, with everything surrounding this ICC event remaining in the air.&nbsp;

Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie thinks that skipper Shan Masood is not at fault for losing 0-2 in the home Test series against Bangladesh. Gillespie made the comments after the end of&nbsp;second Rawalpindi Test and stressed that the players are good enough.

Pakistan Test skipper Masood's position is under scrutiny after successive whitewash against Australia in Australia and against Bangladesh at home. Masood, however, isn't too worried about it.

"I am not worried for my job security. I took this job to make the changes we believe will help this team. If I believe this team can go in a certain direction, even if my personal failure takes Pakistan to that direction, I will be content. However much time I get, I'll be grateful for and do my best," he had said.

We need the same level of red-ball exposure. Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game. You need experience. It's obvious we need more Test and red-ball cricket," he added.

Pakistan's next Test assignment is a home Test series against England. They are scheduled to play three Tests against the English side out of which one could be shifted out of the country due to ongoing revamp work at one of the venues.

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has hit out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairmen for 'destroying the team.' The comments come after 0-2 Test series loss against Bangladesh at home.

"Whoever became the chairman in the last four years has demolished Pakistan cricket," said Latif on his show 'Caught Behind.'

"Who brought him (Shan Masood) as (Test) captain? Who removed Babar Azam (from captaincy)? Who divided the Pakistan team?" Latif continued. "So what is he doing at this juncture? Giving interviews?"

The team started disintegrating from there itself. It was you who made Shan the captain for your own benefit, to break the team. So your team is broken now," added Latif.

Pakistan cricket is in turmoil ever since failing to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals. Babar Azam was removed from captaincy across formats, and Shan Masood was named his replacement in Tests along with Shaheen Shah Afridi in T20Is.

The changes, however, didn't work any wonder as Pakistan lost both Test and T20I series in Australia, forcing another change which saw Babar return to captaincy in the shortest format.

The chairmen kept changing as well, while all this drama happened in Pakistan cricket before Mohsin Naqvi was elected.

All of this comes at a time when Pakistan are gearing up to host ICC Champions Trophy early next year. It'll be their first ICC tournament since jointly hosting 1996 ODI World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

Latif further said. "You forcibly made Babar resign.

'Team started disintegrating from...,' Ex-Pak cricketer Rashid Latif blames PCB chairmen for Bangladesh loss

Former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim opened up on Babar Azam and slammed the right-handed batter. Wasim, who served as the chief selector during the star batter's captaincy era from 2020-2022, stated that Babar was 'very stubborn'&nbsp;and got upset whenever the selection committee made changes to the squad. However, Wasim revealed, more often than not, he had to step in to make him accept the changes.

<h2>'He was not ready to accept changes, I had to convince him'</h2>

Speaking to a local sports platform, Wasim shared his opinion on Babar and slammed him. He said, "It was painful to make him understand the advantages of changes. He was very stubborn, and I overstepped my limitations to get him on board with certain calls. He was not ready to accept changes."

He further added,&nbsp;"I will not take names, but four coaches said that a group of players is cancer to the team. If they are part of the squad, Pakistan can’t win. I tried to remove them from the team, but the team management recalled them."

Babar was named Pakistan's T20I captain in 2020 before he became the all-format skipper later that year. While he had a good start to his captaincy career, it went downhill from 2022. Under him, Pakistan failed to win the Asia Cup 2022 (T20Is) and the T20 World Cup, ending as the finalists on both occasions and failed to even reach the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India. After the mega event, he stepped down as the all-format skipper before Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reappointed him as the white-ball captain before this year's T20 WC.

Under Babar, Pakistan failed to make it to the Super 8s of the 2024 T20 WC, eventually won by Team India. At present, his white-ball captaincy future isn't certain.

Former Pakistan chief selector SLAMS 'stubborn' Babar Azam, says he was reluctant to team changes

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the national side struggles with injury issues. Butt, who has been critical about the Pakistan cricket team’s fielding performance pointed out that PCB&nbsp;has not made changes in the team set-up despite a horror show in the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. Pakistan were knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the group stage with questions raised about the team’s performance on the field.

<h2>Butt critical of PCB’s decision</h2>

"Entire Pakistan is talking about the fitness of the team and it brought a storm in Pakistan, players at the junior level were asked to run. This came after people said players weren't fit in the T20 World Cup 2024. No one questioned the physios or trainers, but instead, they started making players at the district level push hard for fitness. Those who made errors are still there," said Butt on Youtube Channel.

According to Butt, the trainers and the physios need to be changed if the team is to push for the next stage. Pakistan cricket has been in turmoil in recent times having seen early exits in the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup in&nbsp;recent times. The team’s recent policies have seen Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie as part of the coaching staff.

The team has also gone back to Babar Azam as the skipper who had given away the captaincy after the ODI World Cup in India. Interestingly, Shaheen Shah Afridi who was installed as the captain of the T20I side was sacked after the dismal show in the away T20I series against New Zealand. Questions were also raised about Afridi’s captaincy after he failed to lead his Pakistan Super League (PSL) side to a single win.

With less than six months to go before the start of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pulling out audacious plans to renovate the stadiums. One of the key features of the renovation includes upgrading the floodlights in the stadiums for the Champions Trophy. However, the PCB is in the headlines as it plans to rent the towers for the floodlights during the showpiece event according to a PTI report published on Friday (Aug 16).

This part of the project includes installing new floodlights in Lahore and Karachi while moving the old ones to other cities. The PCB has decided to move the floodlights already installed in Karachi to Quetta and those in Lahore to Rawalpindi to save costs. According to reports, the PCB is looking to get sponsors for the towers and a tender has already been released for the same.

"The idea behind this process is to ensure smaller venues are also equipped with light towers for domestic cricket and major venues like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi where most of the international games and CT matches would be played get towers which ensure international standard and uninterrupted provision of light during matches," a PCB source said.&nbsp;

The Champions Trophy is set to start in the first week of February with India and Pakistan set to be included in the same group. The PCB wants to keep no stone unturned for the tournament as it will return to the global stage as hosts for a major tournament for the first time since 2008. They last hosted the Asia Cup in 2008 and have since not hosted a major event having faced security issues.

The majority of the eight nations are expected to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy but suspense remains on India’s participation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to receive clearance from the External Affairs Ministry to travel to Pakistan and participate in the tournament under a hybrid model.

Champions Trophy 2025: PCB to rent 'light towers' for stadiums in Lahore, Karachi

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allotted PKR 12.80 billion ($49 million) for three ICC Champions Trophy 2025 venues' upgradation, said&nbsp;reports in local media. The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has accepted the new designs of three stadiums – the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.&nbsp;Naqvi approved the designs after his latest visit to BDP Pattern's head office – a renowned architectural firm based in London, United Kingdom, where he met Chairman Chris Harding and other senior officials.&nbsp;

The development comes days after Geo News in Pakistan reported that PCB commenced construction at Karachi Stadium, which will host the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh, but without fans.

Meanwhile, the apex body – the International Cricket Council (ICC), has approved a budget of around $70 million for the tournament, as the amount will cover the expenses incurred during the support period window scheduled from February 12 to 18. That window, however, is designated for warm-up matches, media-related activities and promotional events. All activities during that period will get underway in consultation between the ICC and PCB.

During his visit, the firm briefed Naqvi about the new designs. The PCB chairman expressed satisfaction over the venue upgrade project, saying it’s the first time the arenas will get reformed for such a vast audience.

The PCB chairman also admitted to overseeing this project, promising to complete the venue upgrade before the 2025 Champions Trophy from February 19 to March 9.

The UK-based firm, founded 63 years ago, has designed around 200 stadiums worldwide, securing over 1000 design quality awards.

<h2>Jay Shah on India touring Pakistan for 2025&nbsp;CT</h2>

BCCI secretary Jay Shah commented on the board’s stance of sending Team India across the border in a recent chat with Times of India (TOI).&nbsp;

“No stand as of now. We will cross the bridge when it comes,” he said.

Per the draft schedule submitted to ICC, India is placed in Group A alongside the hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Considering the BCCI denied sending its team to Pakistan for last year’s Asia Cup, resulting in Sri Lanka getting added as a last-minute co-host, the PCB has scheduled all India matches in Lahore, including the marquee game between arch-rivals on March 1.&nbsp;

Also, should India qualify for the semis and the final, they will play their matches in Lahore.&nbsp;
