Though plenty has happened behind the scenes in the past month, including Jay Shah's appointment as the new ICC chair, which could eventually decide CT venue fate, the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is confident that Pakistan will retain the hosting rights, with the PCB constantly in touch with the BCCI secretary.

During the latest media interaction, Naqvi sounded optimistic about BCCI and the Indian Government allowing the Indian Team to travel to Pakistan for the first time since 2008 for the multi-team tournament. &nbsp;

“Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, we are in touch with the BCCI Secretary,” PCB chairman Naqvi said during a media interaction, as quoted by The Indian Express. “[We are] also in contact with the boards of the teams participating in the Champions Trophy.”

Even last year, when Pakistan was supposed to host the 2023 Asia Cup, the BCCI decided against sending the team, with the Asian Cricket Council, headed by Jay Shah, deciding to add Sri Lanka as the co-host, with all India games rescheduled in the Island Nation, including the final.

“The basement of Gaddafi Stadium will be constructed by September 30. Each floor will be completed in a three-week period. The front building would consist of a steel structure. The main building of Gaddafi Stadium will be completed by December 31.

“Pindi Stadium will have to be completely demolished and rebuilt; the seats will be installed in the stadium before the Champions Trophy. The renovation at Karachi’s [National Stadium] will also be completed before the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi concluded.

<h2>BCCI has yet to take final call</h2>

Despite being approached several times, the BCCI officials have kept mum over their stance of not sending the Indian Team across the border.

We need the same level of red-ball exposure. Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game. You need experience. It's obvious we need more Test and red-ball cricket," he added.

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has hit out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairmen for 'destroying the team.' The comments come after 0-2 Test series loss against Bangladesh at home.

"Whoever became the chairman in the last four years has demolished Pakistan cricket," said Latif on his show 'Caught Behind.'

"Who brought him (Shan Masood) as (Test) captain? Who removed Babar Azam (from captaincy)? Who divided the Pakistan team?" Latif continued. "So what is he doing at this juncture? Giving interviews?"

"When he (Ashraf) was doing everything, making team and appointing captains, who is he blaming then - Babar?" Latif further said. "You forcibly made Babar resign. The team started disintegrating from there itself. It was you who made Shan the captain for your own benefit, to break the team. So your team is broken now," added Latif.

Pakistan cricket is in turmoil ever since failing to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals. Babar Azam was removed from captaincy across formats, and Shan Masood was named his replacement in Tests along with Shaheen Shah Afridi in T20Is.

The changes, however, didn't work any wonder as Pakistan lost both Test and T20I series in Australia, forcing another change which saw Babar return to captaincy in the shortest format.

The chairmen kept changing as well, while all this drama happened in Pakistan cricket before Mohsin Naqvi was elected.

All of this comes at a time when Pakistan are gearing up to host ICC Champions Trophy early next year. It'll be their first ICC tournament since jointly hosting 1996 ODI World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

Considering eight to nine months of non-stop cricket, the board decided against allocating the NOCs to star players to keep them fresh for the lengthy home season.

“It should be remembered that between August 2024 and March 2025, the Pakistan cricket team has to play nine Tests of the ICC World Test Championship, the ICC Champions Trophy, 14 ODIs and nine T20Is. All three cricketers play all three formats, and Pakistan will need their services in the next eight months,” a PCB statement reads.

While Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is Down Under from 4-18 November, they will take on Zimbabwe in a similar itinerary from November 24 to December 5.&nbsp;

Following a video that has gone viral on social media of a journalist revealing several top players, including the captain Babar Azam and star players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, underperformed on purpose, the PCB demanded evidence against such baseless allegations.

Per a report in Cricket Pakistan, the ICC’s anti-corruption officials and the security manager, who accompanied the team, kept a close watch on everyone. Besides, per the sources close to the information, none of the star players, including Babar, Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shadab Khan, ever got involved in ill activities.

<h2>‘Defamation case to follow’</h2>

Upon approaching the board, the officials said,&nbsp;

"We are fully aware of these negative comments. Criticism within the bounds of the game is acceptable, and there is no objection to it. However, baseless allegations like match-fixing cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Moreover, when asked further on what steps the stakeholders take to curb such remarks, the official stated,&nbsp;

"PCB has no doubts, so why should we conduct an inquiry? Those who made the allegations should provide proof. We have instructed our legal department to issue notices to such individuals and demand evidence. If not provided, we will seek compensation for defamation. A new law in Punjab ensures that a decision will come within six months."

Babar Azam unlikely to face immediate action after poor T20 WC show; PCB to shuffle selection committee

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has come to the defence of Haris Rauf after the pacer was involved in an altercation with a fan while out on a stroll with his wife. The video of the incident went viral on social media on Tueday (Jun 18) and showed Rauf having a go at the fan who said something to incense him.&nbsp;

Naqvi took to social media to condemn the incident and suggested that the 'fan' involved apologise to Rauf or face legal action.&nbsp;

"Strongly condemn the appalling incident involving Haris Rauf. Such actions against our players are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated," said Naqvi.&nbsp;

"Those who are involved must immediately apologise to Haris Rauf, failing which we will pursue legal action against the individual responsible," he added.&nbsp;

Pakistan lost against USA and arch-rivals India to bow out of the tournament from the group stage when it looked certain that the 2022 finalists would at least make it to the Super 8.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team. They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation,"&nbsp;Pakistani media reports quoted Kirsten as saying.&nbsp;

According to sources cited by Geosuper.tv, Kirsten was also dissatisfied with the fitness levels of the players and&nbsp;conveyed his feelings at one of the&nbsp;soul-searching meetings. The South African added that the team's skill level was&nbsp;significantly lower compared to other teams worldwide.

Kirsten, one of the most sought-after coaches in the world, was appointed the Pakistan head coach in the lead-up to the marquee tournament. He previously led India to a 50-over World Cup title, way back in 2011.&nbsp;

While Kirsten allegedly went ballistic regarding the team culture, as many as five players, including skipper Babar Azam reportedly jetted off to London for a holiday.&nbsp;&nbsp;
