Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood feels if BCCI denies sending Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, other Asian countries like Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh could follow the same path. Due to the tense relations between India and Pakistan, the Indian Govt. might not send the team across the border for the eight-team tournament scheduled for February-March next year.

Per the latest reports, the BCCI has communicated their clear intentions to the PCB and the ICC, with the board putting out the same message during the ongoing ICC annual conference in Colombo, where the Champions Trophy venue was among the several agendas to be discussed.

Meanwhile, Mahmood said considering BCCI’s stance in world cricket and what they bring to the table, they can boss around and make things happen their way. He added that chances of India travelling to Pakistan are bleak, and if that happens and others also deny sending their teams, the PCB and the ICC could suffer massive losses regarding revenue, growth and profits.

“There are very, very slim chances they will agree to play in Pakistan,” Mahmood said, as quoted by PTI.

“India is the richest cricket board and carries a lot of clout. If they don’t send their team to Pakistan I foresee even countries like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh following their path. This would basically reduce the Champions Trophy into a venture where revenues will take a hit, expenses will grow and profits would fall,” he continued.

<h2>No tit-for-tat with India</h2>

Mahmood admits the BCCI holds a lot of clout in the apex body, and trying to do anything other than convincing other boards to be on their side could hurt PCB a lot. He added that BCCI’s stance on not sending its team to Pakistan will eventually reduce the purpose of the country hosting any ICC event in future.

“Look the thing is at this level you can only lobby and try to convince other boards to be on your side. India has too much clout in the ICC it would do no good for Pakistan to adopt a tit-for-tat strategy. The thing is when the BCCI says it can’t send its team and will play its matches outside Pakistan, it does reduce the purpose for Pakistan of hosting an ICC event,” Mahmood noted.

Meanwhile, the latest reports have suggested that Pakistan will not deviate its position from hosting all ICC CT matches in the country despite BCCI’s refusal, while a decision on the same could be out following the ICC meet in Colombo.&nbsp;

Champions Trophy 2025: Ex-PCB head expects revenue, profits to hit if India decides against coming to Pakistan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cleared its intentions of prioritising the international calendar by denying the No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the star trio of Captain Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan to play in the Global T20 League in Canada. Per&nbsp;latest reports, the PCB consulted with the three players and the selection committee before taking this call.

This decision came soon after the PCB denied NOC to seamer Naseem Shah to play in The Hundred in the UK. The right-arm pacer was signed&nbsp;for Birmingham Phoenix for a deal worth £125,000.&nbsp;

Pakistan will host multiple teams in the busiest home season in over a century, with two Tests against Bangladesh beginning on August 21. England will tour Pakistan for three Tests before the Men in Green travels abroad for white-ball series against Australia and Zimbabwe.&nbsp;

Pakistan will then tour South Africa for an all-format series during the New Year, and upon returning home, they will host West Indies for two Tests, followed by a tri-series involving South Africa and New Zealand.

Per the slated schedule, Pakistan will also host the eight-team Champions Trophy in February-March, ending their season with an away NZ Tour and &nbsp;2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).&nbsp;

Considering eight to nine months of non-stop cricket, the board decided against allocating the NOCs to star players to keep them fresh for the lengthy home season.

“It should be remembered that between August 2024 and March 2025, the Pakistan cricket team has to play nine Tests of the ICC World Test Championship, the ICC Champions Trophy, 14 ODIs and nine T20Is. All three cricketers play all three formats, and Pakistan will need their services in the next eight months,” a PCB statement reads.

<h2>International cricket is priority</h2>

While non-centrally-contracted players like Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz and Asif Ali recently received the green signal to participate in other franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide, considering the heavy workload, mainly concerning Test cricket, contracted players were denied this chance.&nbsp;

It, however, is significant in plenty of ways, as despite the mention of every contracted player allowed to participate in two franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide yearly, given it shouldn’t collide with the international calendar, the PCB denied these players by not providing the NOCs.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will arrive in Pakistan in mid-August to play two Tests in Rawalpindi (August 21) and Karachi (August 30), respectively.&nbsp;

PCB prioritises international calendar, denies NOCs to star trio to play in Global T20 Canada

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to add Test coach Jason Gillespie to the selection committee as the board continues to make changes after the T20 World Cup exit. Gillespie will join white-ball coach Gary Kirsten in the selection committee which collectively selects the squad for the Pakistan national team. While Gillespie’s inclusion will be a key factor in team selection, in another decision the players must play domestic cricket while their availability in the overseas franchise competition now hangs in the balance.

<h2>Jason Gillespie added to the selection committee</h2>

Having recently sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee, speculations were high regarding the inclusion of Gillespie in the selection committee. Having taken charge of the side in April in the Test format, the former Australian speedster was considered to have a big say in the team’s selection process. Part of the process included him being part of the selection committee. The committee already included white-ball coach Kirsten and members from the local board.

According to a report from Espncricinfo, an announcement will be made soon to confirm the appointment of the former Australian speedster on the committee.

<h2>Other proposals on the agenda</h2>

According to the reports, the selection committee has made it compulsory for international players to play a certain amount of domestic matches to earn a central contract. Players therefore will have to make themselves available for domestic cricket when they are not in international action. While no number has been revealed on the number of domestic matches to be played, players will have to fulfil the criteria to earn a central contract.

The central contracts are set to be reduced to one year after three-year contracts were announced last year. However, the remuneration of the players will not be reduced for now.

Pakistan will host Bangladesh for two Tests, England for three Tests and West Indies for two Tests during the 2024-25 home season. Ahead of the grand home season which will also see them host the Champions Trophy that is likely to be played from February 19 to March 9 next year, PCB has officially appointed Australia's Tony Hemming as the head curator on a two-year contract.

Pakistan Cricket: Jason Gillespie added to PCB's selection committee as domestic cricket made compulsory

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a tough call to deny NOCs to top stars, including Naseem Shah, from participating in the upcoming edition of The Hundred in the UK. Per the latest reports, the PCB might also reject NOCs to white-ball captain Babar Azam, keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and star seamer Shaheen Afridi from playing in the Global T20 League in Canada – the one not been sanctioned by the ICC yet.

To prioritise the heavy home and away calendar this season, ensuring the top, contracted players remain fit for it, the board has denied permission to them to go and play in overseas franchise-based leagues.&nbsp;

Considering there is no mention of PCB not allowing the permitted players to play abroad outside of the international calendar in their contracts, this decision might ruffle a few features and further deteriorate relations between the players and the board.

<h2>Ramifications to follow</h2>

The immediate implications of this decision mean Naseen will not represent Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred this season, where he was set to earn £125,000 (1,58,768.62 USD). Besides, the three top cricketers, Shaheen, Babar and Rizwan, drafted to partake in GLT20, will not travel to Canada for the league.&nbsp;

However, this call doesn’t indicate that NOCs will not be entertained in another case. Although it will impact the centrally-contracted players only, Usama Mir, who was earlier denied a NOC for the T20 Blast, will be allowed to play The Hundred, and so will the seamer Haris Rauf.&nbsp;

The latest reports also tell that this NOC saga will stretch beyond a couple of leagues this and next month, considering Pakistan’s heaviest (home) calendar in a century.&nbsp;

The Men in Green will begin the home season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting August 21 in Rawalpindi, before hosting England for three Tests. Pakistan will then travel overseas for the remainder of the year, touring Australia and Zimbabwe for the white-ball series before going to South Africa for an all-format tour.&nbsp;

Following the eight-team tournament, the PSL will get underway, keeping all centrally contracted players busy till May next year.&nbsp;

It is understood that PCB will not accept any NOC requests during this packed window.&nbsp;

PCB prioritises international calendar as board rejects NOC to top stars for franchise-based leagues

Row in Pakistan Cricket continues to make headlines. Per the latest reports, the senior campaigner and ace pacer Shaheen Afridi has landed in trouble for misbehaving with the batting coach Mohammad Yousuf. The incident is said to have happened during one of the training sessions during the England T20Is ahead of the marquee event in the Americas. The local media is anticipating disciplinary action against Shaheen for his behaviour.

The incident happened when Yousuf questioned Shaheen over bowling regular no-balls (during a spell in the nets), to which Shaheen rudely replied, "Let me do what I am doing, and you mind your own business."

A source close to the information also informed Geo News in Pakistan that the matter was "nothing more than&nbsp;a routine case of the heat of the moment", and thus got shut down there only, without anyone complaining to the PCB.

The report also suggested that Shaheen apologised to Yousuf for his misconduct.&nbsp;

However, in the report submitted to the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, there is an outright mention of this incident, with the source claiming the ball is in the chairman’s court, who will take any action against the world-class seamer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“We have to mention all that had happened during the World Cup campaign. It is up to the PCB chairman to decide on the matter,” an official said, as quoted by The Indian Express.&nbsp;

With Pakistan hosting Bangladesh for two Tests in August, the reports suggest Shaheen might miss the series. Although another unnamed official backed Afridi to make it to the playing XI, he agrees that Shaheen must face some heat for the PCB to set a precedent. Per the source, the board might take an alternative action against him.

"I would rather suggest revoking Shaheen’s NOC for foreign leagues. His demotion from A category contract is also an option available to the PCB."

"However, the chairman has the final authority to decide on the matter. He has the power to even pardon the fast bowler,” the source claimed.&nbsp;

Shaheen Afridi misbehaved with batting coach ahead of T20 WC, reports suggest this was in 'heat of the moment'

The Indian Cricket Team is on top of its prowess, having recently won the T20 World Cup in the Americas, and even though they haven’t won an ICC title in 50-over cricket in over a decade, their domination in the white-ball cricket in the past many years speaks for itself. With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan next in line, the chances of the Indian government denying permission to send the team across the border are high and could have repercussions. So, what will happen if Team India pulls out of the eight-team tournament in Pakistan next year?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing for next year’s Champions Trophy in full flow, with several reports suggesting that they have even submitted the draft schedule with potential groups to the ICC and all participating members. With the apex body (ICC) also working in tandem with the PCB, it appears like the competition might go ahead at the original venue.

However, considering the tense political relations between India and Pakistan, neither the ruling government nor the BCCI have communicated any word on sending the team to Pakistan for the tournament.&nbsp;

Although the latest reports reveal that BCCI officials will speak to ICC on the change in venue to Dubai or Sri Lanka during the next annual conference, if the opposite happens and ICC decides against doing it, Team India could face some repercussions.&nbsp;

“In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India permits us to do so. So, we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,” BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

<h2>What will happen&nbsp;if Team India pulls out of CT 2025?</h2>

If the BCCI remains firm on its stance of not allowing Team India to travel to Pakistan (and the venues remain the same), they will be disqualified from participating, making Sri Lanka eligible to replace them.&nbsp;

Per previous reports, India was placed in Group A alongside the hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. The remaining four teams – Afghanistan, England, Australia and South Africa are drawn in Group B.&nbsp;

Besides, per the draft schedule submitted to the ICC and the BCCI, Team India will play their matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, including the semis and final, should they qualify.

What happens if Team India pulls out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan?

Turmoil in Pakistan Cricket continues as all concerned stakeholders took a collective call on the future of Test and white-ball captains during the latest top-tier meet in Lahore on Wednesday (July 10). The PCB heads, national selectors, coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten and others all sat to discuss the aftermath of a failed 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas; while the decision-makers backed Test captain Shan Masood to continue leading, they remained undecided on Babar Azam's white-ball captaincy future.

“The meeting was held to discuss ways to move forward with a comprehensive blueprint for the national team in red and white ball formats,” a source close to the development told&nbsp;news agency PTI.&nbsp;

Considering Pakistan's lengthy home season, the busiest in the century, that includes Tests against Bangladesh, England and West Indies (and an away tour of South Africa), the PCB and selection committee wants Shan Masood to lead from the front.&nbsp;

However, on the white-ball front, where Pakistan will host a few series, including a tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa (just ahead of the Champions Trophy next year), the PCB was tight-lipped about Babar’s future.

“Shan got the support at the meeting to continue as Test captain for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, England, South Africa and the West Indies between August and January,” the source added.

<h2>Wahab, Razzaq sacked</h2>

Also, the sacking of chief selector Wahab Riaz and his panel member and former star all-rounder Abdul Razzaq made headlines. Ex-seamer Sarfraz Nawaz also urged the PCB to sack the selection panel for their collective failure to do justice to their job.&nbsp;

“The selection committee has worked collectively and should be sacked collectively for their failure and incompetence,” said Nawaz.

“I am on record to have written letters to Zaka (Ashraf) and (Mohsin) Naqvi regarding Wahab’s suspected past and his lack of abilities as an administrator. Nobody paid heed to my suggestion."

“I knew well that Wahab was not capable of delivering in any capacity yet he was made selector, advisor and manager. On all fronts, he failed,” he continued.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s next series is against Bangladesh at home, consisting of two Tests.&nbsp;

“The meeting was held to discuss ways to move forward with a comprehensive blueprint for the national team in red and white ball formats,” a source close to the development told news agency PTI. Considering Pakistan's lengthy home season, the busiest in the century, that includes Tests against Bangladesh, England and West Indies (and an away tour of South Africa), the PCB and selection committee wants Shan Masood to lead from the front. Shan Masood receives backing as Test skipper as PCB and coaches undecided on Babar Azam's captaincy future

In the aftermath of Pakistan's shambolic performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Wahab Riaz was sacked as the member of the selection committee on Wednesday (Jul&nbsp;10). Soon after his sacking, the former Pakistani pacer reacted to the development and shared a lengthy note on his official account on X.

Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were sacked from their positions in the selection committee as Pakistan cricket kicked off their revamp process post&nbsp;the T20 WC, in West Indies and the USA, where Babar Azam &amp; Co. were eliminated in the group stage. Post his sacking, Riaz took to his official handle on X and captioned the post saying, "There is a lot to say but I don't want to be part of blame games".

Riaz wrote on X, "My time serving as a member of the selection committee for PCB comes to an end, I just want my people to know that I have served the game I love with faith and sincerity and have given 100 per cent for the betterment of Pakistan cricket."

He further mentioned, "It has been an honour to serve as part of the selection panel. To make collaborative decisions as part of the seven-man panel to select the national team was a privilege - everyone's vote carried equal weight, and we made selection decisions as a team and&nbsp;shared the responsibility of that process equally. It was an honour to contribute my part to that."

Notably, an internal PCB enquiry is believed to have taken place which found&nbsp;discrepancies in many of the committee's decisions. 'There is lot to say': Former Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz reacts after being sacked from PCB selection panel

Pakistan cricket’s desperation has&nbsp;started to catch the attention of the fans and media after they were eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup in June. Now facing a routine post-World Cup review, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to sack members of the selection committee Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq, and is likely to revert back to the old selection process. The decision comes after Pakistan could not progress into the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup while questions&nbsp;were raised on the&nbsp;selection of the squad.&nbsp;

<h2>Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq sacked</h2>

According to ESPNcricinfo, the seven-member committee which is by default headed by former chief selector Riaz was trimmed down to five. Both Riaz, the de facto head of the committee and Razzaq were sacked on Tuesday (July 9) evening. This comes as a big U-turn from the Pakistan Cricket Board that experimented with the selection committee where all the seven members had equal power and voting rights, unlike the chief selector panel.

The PCB selection committee will likely be abolished and a new chief selector could be announced in the coming days with the rest of the members still part of the new system.

The move, however, comes as a surprise for few as Riaz was considered a close aide to now PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi with the former also serving a term as Sports Minster. The decision by the PCB comes after Riaz and his selection committee faced backlash for poor selection calls.

The former Pakistan speedster was with the team during the T20 World Cup and was widely considered responsible for the team’s failure having also served as the de facto head of the selection committee.

<h2>What next for Pakistan Cricket?</h2>

As things stand, the PCB under Naqvi will likely reappoint a chief selector for the men’s team with the selection panel trimmed down. The board has already appointed a host of chief selectors in recent times which include Haroon Rashid, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Wasim and Misbah-ul-Haq. While there is no front-runner for the post right now, it will be interesting to see who takes the tough job with Pakistan set to host the Champions Trophy in March.

Pakistan Cricket: Another fallout sees Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq sacked from PCB selection committee

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an action-packed home schedule for the upcoming season, including listing the tentative dates for Champions Trophy 2025. In what is termed their busiest red-ball international home season in the century, Pakistan will host seven Tests from August (this year) to January 2025. Bangladesh, West Indies and England are three touring teams.

In the now-released draft schedule of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 (already submitted to the ICC and boards of all participating nations), the PCB will host the eight-team tournament from February 19 to March 9. Although all stakeholders have agreed on the draft schedule, the Indian Cricket Board has yet to respond, with questions raised over their participation.

Owing to what unfolded during the 2023 Asia Cup, when Sri Lanka roped in as the last-minute co-host since the BCCI and the Indian Govt. denied sending the team to Pakistan (the hosts of the tournament), speculations of the PCB facing a similar fate are doing rounds.

Meanwhile, the eight participating teams are – Pakistan (hosts), India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, England and South Africa. West Indies, Sri Lanka and Ireland missed out on the qualification cut.

<h2>Pakistan’s home schedule for 2024/25</h2>

Pakistan will begin the home season with two Tests against Bangladesh – in Rawalpindi and Karachi, from August 21 to September 3. Considering the monsoon and the humidity that follows during this month, Pakistan usually doesn’t host matches in August. However, the last they hosted a series during this time was against Bangladesh in 2003. &nbsp;

After Bangladesh, England will tour Pakistan for three Tests from 7-28 October, with Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi playing hosts, respectively.

Pakistan will then travel to Australia and Zimbabwe for the limited-over tours before flying to the Rainbow Nation (South Africa) for a full-fledged series. While Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is Down Under from 4-18 November, they will take on Zimbabwe in a similar itinerary from November 24 to December 5.&nbsp;

Pakistan’s tour of South Africa begins with three T20Is, followed by three ODIs and two Tests.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan will host New Zealand for three ODIs from 8-12 February.&nbsp;

All eyes on Champions Trophy dates as PCB announce action-packed home schedule for upcoming season

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) demanded evidence of match-fixing allegations against the players after the team exited the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup after the first round. Losing to the co-hosts and tournament’s debutant, the USA, broke their confidence before arch-rivals India clinched a tight win to dent their chances of entering Super 8s. Although they won their match against Ireland, Pakistan failed to cruise ahead owing to the washout game against Canada, resulting in them falling behind the USA on the points table.

However, considering the rise of criticism culture in the country over the past few years, the fans, a few journalists, several former cricketers and countless YouTubers began hammering the team for their dismal show at the showpiece event. Although the board expected such a reaction from the fans, knowing how invested they are in their cricket, allegations of players getting involved in fixing-related activities escalated the whole matter.

PCB demands evidence against match-fixing allegations; calls for journalists, YouTubers to provide proof

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is unlikely to take any immediate action on Babar Azam’s leadership role as they intend to focus on a reshuffle in the selection committee. Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup where they lost to India and the co-hosts USA while they laboured their way to a win against Ireland. However, the PCB intends to shuffle the pack of selectors rather than focus on Babar’s captaincy performance.

<h2>Babar unlikely to face immediate action </h2>

One of the main reasons Babar will not face immediate action is because Pakistan are not in white-ball action until November. With time in hand, the board intends to keep the matter cool for the moment and instead make changes to the selection committee. The seven-member pack consisting of Wahab Riaz is unlikely to be retained with fresh faces expected to be included.

The existing selection committee came into existence after the ODI World Cup in India when Pakistan suffered a league stage exit. Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from his post when Pakistan were unable to reach the top four of the ODI World Cup in November 2023 with Wahab and Co. being given the charge. However, they are unlikely to be retained as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said at the time that the committee would "make a majority decision based around debate and argument to reach a satisfactory conclusion".

Wahab is unlikely to be included again despite enjoying de facto powers during the last few months as selection committee head. It is also understood that, before taking any concrete decision PCB will take feedback from head coach Gary Kirsten and his supporting staff. Like Wahab, Babar is also unlikely to regain his role and could be stripped of the captaincy&nbsp;from the white-ball format. He had already relinquished captaincy in the red-ball format in December 2023.

Though the PCB and the players agreed to three-year contracts in a landmark decision last year, it only applies to the overarching terms of the contract. Individual players can be moved up and down in categories - or left out altogether - depending on their performances.

Babar unlikely to face immediate action One of the main reasons Babar will not face immediate action is because Pakistan are not in white-ball action until November. Phil Salt's ONSLAUGHT off Romario Shepherd goes viral during WI vs ENG tie - Watch Wahab is unlikely to be included again despite enjoying de facto powers during the last few months as selection committee head. It is also understood that, before taking any concrete decision PCB will take feedback from head coach Gary Kirsten and his supporting staff. Like Wahab, Babar is also unlikely to regain his role and could be stripped of the captaincy from the white-ball format. He had already relinquished captaincy in the red-ball format in December 2023. Though the PCB and the players agreed to three-year contracts in a landmark decision last year, it only applies to the overarching terms of the contract. Individual players can be moved up and down in categories - or left out altogether - depending on their performances.

Babar Azam unlikely to face immediate action after poor T20 WC show; PCB to shuffle selection committee

'Apologise or face action': Pakistan Cricket Board threatens fan involved in altercation with Haris Rauf

Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten has slammed the culture within the senor men's cricket team after it crashed out of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kirsten said there was no unity within the team, something he had never seen before in his coaching career.&nbsp;

Pakistan lost against USA and arch-rivals India to bow out of the tournament from the group stage when it looked certain that the 2022 finalists would at least make it to the Super 8.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team. They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation,"&nbsp;Pakistani media reports quoted Kirsten as saying.&nbsp;

According to sources cited by Geosuper.tv, Kirsten was also dissatisfied with the fitness levels of the players and&nbsp;conveyed his feelings at one of the&nbsp;soul-searching meetings. The South African added that the team's skill level was&nbsp;significantly lower compared to other teams worldwide.

Kirsten, one of the most sought-after coaches in the world, was appointed the Pakistan head coach in the lead-up to the marquee tournament. He previously led India to a 50-over World Cup title, way back in 2011.&nbsp;

'There's no unity': Coach Gary Kirsten rips into Pakistan team after T20 WC exit

Pakistan Captain Babar Azam did not shy away from addressing questions surrounding his future as the white-ball captain after his side’s early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup. After Pakistan’s last league game against Ireland on Sunday (June 16), Babar attended the post-match presser and answered all questions thrown at him. When asked&nbsp;what the future holds for him as the skipper, he said it’s all in the PCB’s hands, adding if he is to re-resign from this post, he will announce it openly.

"When I gave up the captaincy [in 2023], I thought that I shouldn't be doing it now, that's why I left it and I announced it myself," Babar said in the post-match presser.&nbsp;

"Then when they gave it back to me, it was the decision of the PCB. When I go back, we will discuss all that has happened here. And if I have to leave the captaincy, I will announce it openly. I will not hide behind anything. Whatever happens will happen in the open. But for now, I have not thought about it. It is eventually PCB's decision," he continued.

After resigning from this post following last year’s 50-over World Cup in India, the PCB reappointed him as the white-ball captain ahead of the 20-team tournament in the Americas. Although Pakistan had a settled squad at their helm, they failed to win three series in the lead-up to this tournament, drawing against New Zealand (2-2 at home), Ireland (1-1) and England (0-2).&nbsp;

Even in this marquee tournament, Pakistan’s loss to the co-hosts USA in their opener was a confidence-shattering defeat, with going down to India in their next match adding salt to the wounds. Their washout game against Canada led to their shocking exit, but they ended the tournament on a high with a tight win against Ireland in their last group match.

<h2>‘We failed as a unit’</h2>

Although Babar leads the run chart in this format, even ahead of veteran Virat Kohli, he hasn’t produced knocks worth recalling, at least on the bigger stages. Even against Ireland, he remained unbeaten on 32 off 34 balls, hitting just two fours.

When asked about their performance, Babar said, "I told you that we did not lose this because of one particular person."&nbsp;

"We win and lose as a team. You are pointing out that [I am] the captain, but I cannot play in every player's place. There are 11 players, and each of them has a role. That's why they came here to play the World Cup. I think we have not been able to play well as a team. We have to settle down and accept that we didn't play well as a team,” he added.

Ireland Cricket team will make a historic tour of Pakistan in 2025 as the two teams will meet for the first time in the 1992 ODI World&nbsp;Champions’ homeland.&nbsp;The tour was confirmed by both the boards&nbsp;late Monday evening when PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Cricket Ireland chair Brain MacNeice with the two nations set to play a bilateral series.&nbsp;The reported tour will take place in August-September&nbsp;2025&nbsp;with no&nbsp;venues yet fixed.&nbsp;

"Chairman Cricket Ireland said that the Irish team would visit Pakistan next year in August-September for a Test series and would also review the possibility of a&nbsp;women's&nbsp;team tour to Pakistan soon,"&nbsp;the PCB statement said.&nbsp;

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) could collide with the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) over scheduling window from upcoming seasons, per the latest report.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) could collide with the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) over scheduling window from upcoming seasons, per the latest report. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) met owners of all six PSL franchises, proposing several new plans, including hosting the PSL in the April-May window from next season onwards. Among the other proposals, increasing the salary cap of certain marquee overseas players and choosing neutral venues for PSL playoffs, including the UK, UAE and Australia, were also discussed. PSL colliding with the most successful and followed franchise-based T20 League could hamper it in many ways, with the board remaining aware of it. The report suggests instead of competing with the IPL, all concerned members during the discussion agreed that PSL would rather ‘co-exist’ with the Indian Premier League. Although no official word is out on what the final plan would be, Lahore Qalandars – the two-time winners are said to oppose this idea. Other team owners are also undecided and not in favour of some or all proposals. Meanwhile, given Pakistan is scheduled to host the ICC Champions Trophy next year during the February-March window, PSL 10 will take place from April 7 to May 20. ALSO READ: IPL 2024: Gavaskar bashes Kohli over ‘outside noise’ remarks - ‘We don’t have agendas, we speak what we see’ Besides, the ESPNcricinfo report further suggests the PCB proposed this window as permanent for hosting PSL for a few years. Although the weather conditions during May could work against this idea, PCB feels instead of hosting it during the tight window from December to February, where it’s already competing with four other leagues worldwide, the April-May window could fit for many reasons. While a small window during September was also discussed, considering the Ramadan calendar from next year onwards, PSL’s new schedule could benefit all, from the players to the broadcasters to the revenue and sponsorship models. Moreover, considering all marquee overseas players would go under the hammer during the IPL auction, the PCB proposed the franchises go all-out to attract certain top foreign players with an increased salary cap (USD 300,000-plus) as compared to the current one (USD 220,00). For this, the board also proposed the PSL draft to take place after the IPL auction, having clarity over the status of overseas cricketers. Neutral venues on PCB’s mind To spice things up and also considering the weather conditions in this part of the world during the proposed new window, the board listed three potential venues – UK, UAE and Australia. Considering May is too hot for the UAE and cold for Australia, the UK is the best option left. However, a final decision will be made during the formal PSL governing council meeting due at the end of May.

PSL set to collide with IPL over scheduling window as PCB proposes new plans for upcoming seasons

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed three venues – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi, in the initial draft shared with the ICC for hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed three venues – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi, in the initial draft shared with the ICC for hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy. The tournament, scheduled for the mid-February-March window next year, will see the return of an ICC tournament to Pakistan after a gap of nearly 30 years. The Men in Green are defending champions, having last won against arch-rivals India in 2017. Although the ICC had then decided to scrap this tournament, they brought it back in 2022, including it in the new rights cycle (2023-27), with Pakistan getting the hosting rights. The 2025 Champions Trophy will be an eight-team tournament played across two weeks, the exact dates of which are not revealed yet. The hosts - the PCB, had finalised the venues and the schedule following the ICC team’s visit. ALSO READ: PCB boss defends players’ military training after injuries denied Pakistan series win over NZ "We've sent the schedule for the matches in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy," PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said during a presser in Lahore. "The ICC's security team came, and we had a very good meeting. They looked at arrangements here, and we'll also share stadium upgrade plans with them. We're continuously in touch with the ICC. We are trying to ensure we host a very good tournament in Pakistan,” Naqvi continued. Although India has remained firm on not travelling to Pakistan for the marquee event, the latest draft submitted to the ICC has India’s games scheduled in Pakistan. However, as per the process, after the draft is submitted, it goes through various changes, after which it is shared with the broadcaster and the remaining participating boards before the final schedule is announced. India’s stance a worry for Pakistan Owing to frosty relationships between both governments across borders, India has not toured Pakistan since last visiting them during the 2008 Asia Cup. However, both teams only play each other during Asia Cup and ICC-related tournaments, with the Indian government barring bilateral ties between both countries. Last year, when Pakistan was supposed to host the Asia Cup, India’s call to not visit the country forced them to go ahead with the hybrid model, with Sri Lanka joining in as the co-host. However, given the tight scheduling, involving multiple franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide, the ICC will have to find the right window to host the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has defended players’ military training session in Kakul with some of them getting injured and not playing in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has defended players’ military training session in Kakul with some of them getting injured and not playing in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Following a ten-day training camp with Pakistan’s military, ending on April 8, three players, including Azam Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, and rookie Irfan Niazi, suffered muscle injuries. While keeper-batter Azam Khan missed the entire series with a calf injury, Rizwan and Niazi got sidelined for the final two T20Is with hamstring injuries. Backing the training camp, the PCB boss said that considering Pakistan cricket’s fitness levels are below par compared to other countries, this camp was necessary, with fitness training having nothing to do with players pulling up their muscles. ALSO READ: IPL 2024: Will Jacks hits maiden hundred as RCB register back-to-back wins Naqvi also noted that this is just the beginning, and players will undergo similar sessions in times to come to ensure they are at par with players from other teams concerning fitness. "Injuries never occur due to fitness training," Naqvi said. "People have got various theories around how to make players fit. Fitness has never been a focus of Pakistan management in the past." "I am not criticising anyone that came before me, but look at players from the rest of the world. Pakistan players' fitness is well below that. This is just the start; we will have to ramp up player fitness even more. If I need to bring in fitness experts from around the world, I will,” he continued. Playing cricket led to injuries Azhar Mahmood - Pakistan’s coach for the New Zealand series, said those injuries happened while playing cricket and not because of the training camp in Kakul. "Kakul training had nothing to do with cricket," he said. "The injury the players sustained happened [while] playing cricket, and the training had to do with physical fitness. If the players were injured, they wouldn't have played the first game. And Azam Khan was not injured before the series, he was injured in the nets,” he noted. Naqvi also said that he informed the players during PSL this year that he has organised this camp to work on their fitness, speed and ability to hit massive sixes. "When I was watching the matches in Lahore, I don't think a single one of you hit a six that went into the stands," Naqvi said earlier. "Whenever a six like that was hit, I used to think a foreign player must have hit that. I have asked the board to make a plan that gets every player's fitness up to speed. You'll have to make a proper effort for that,” he had said.

The T20I series against New Zealand will be the first time that Babar Azam takes the field with the captain's armband after being removed from the post, following the disastrous World Cup campaign in India.&nbsp;Babar's captaincy attracted widespread criticism as he&nbsp;failed to galvanise his troops to put up strong performances.&nbsp;

However, a little more than four months later, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed Babar was replacing Shaheen Afridi as the T20I captain.&nbsp;

The decision was set in motion after Pakistan lost the T20I series 1-4 to New Zealand away and fast-tracked following Afridi's poor handling of his PSL team which won only one out of the 10 matches.&nbsp;

The decision though, may not have gone down well with Afridi who recently posted an Instagram story&nbsp;seemingly taking a swipe at the PCB and other high-ranking officials who sabotaged his captaincy tenure.&nbsp;

Babar has replaced ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I captain, while the board is yet to announce&nbsp;an ODI skipper following Babar’s removal as all-format skipper post-2023 World Cup.

In a video posted on Pakistan Cricket’s social media handles, the PCB chairman is seen speaking with Babar about taking over the ODI and T20I captaincy.

Meanwhile, following the disastrous World Cup campaign last year, where despite having favourable conditions at their disposal, Pakistan failed to reach the semis, leading PCB to take some stern steps in their quest to revive cricket’s craze in the country . They removed&nbsp;the coaching staff and Babar Azam as an all-format captain. While seamer Shaheen replaced him as the T20I skipper, Shan Masood was named the new Test captain.

Upon being appointed as the T20I captain, with credentials of helping his franchise, Lahore Qalandars, win back-to-back PSL titles, Shaheen failed to replicate his magic in Pakistan colours, losing 1-4 to New Zealand on an away tour in his first assignment. Moreover, a poor PSL 2024, in which his team won just one out of ten matches, led to the selectors looking beyond Shaheen for the shorter-format.

The recent reports indicate&nbsp;the change in the leadership group, with the PCB chairman commenting, saying he is unsure if Afridi remains the captain heading into the 2024 T20 World Cup.&nbsp;

<h2>Babar eyes T20 WC win</h2>

Having led Pakistan in several ICC tournaments, including two T20 World Cups and the 50-over tournament in India last year, Babar knows what the big stage demands and would be ready to prepare for the ultimate glory when Pakistan takes the field for the 20-team-tournament later in June.&nbsp;

With captaincy pressure released off Shaheen’s shoulders, the left-arm seamer can return to focusing on his bowling ahead of the tournament. Besides, with two former cricketers – Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, announcing their decisions to unretire, Babar will have to make a tough choice in picking the best 15 for the T20 World Cup.

However, before that, Pakistan will host New Zealand for five T20Is in April and will travel&nbsp;to the UK for the T20 series against Ireland and England.&nbsp;

PCB reappoints Babar Azam as Pakistan’s white-ball captain

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lashed out at rumours which claim that Shaheen Afridi might be removed as the T20I captain. Shaheen was appointed the captain in the shortest format post Pakistan's horror run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, after which Babar Azam was sacked from the top post across formats. Since then, the pacer has led in only five T20Is, versus New Zealand, where he managed only one win. Recently, there have been reports of Shaheen's sacking, which irked his father-in-law Shahid.&nbsp;

<h2>'Biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes...'</h2>

Talking to the media in Karachi, as quoted by PTI, Afridi said, "I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well." He further opined, "The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket."

Afridi added, "If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong." He even shared his take on the appointment of a foreigner as Pakistan coach but said the person should be a high-profile individual like Andy Flower (with a great track record). In this regard, he said, "I believe that even if you bring in a foreign coach, the staff under him should be Pakistani so that our people can also move forward and improve their skills."

There are speculations that the new governing committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would reinstate Babar Azam and sack Shaheen as the captain of the T20I side ahead of the T20 WC, which gets underway on June 1.

‘Biggest problem is...’: Shahid Afridi hits back at rumours of Shaheen being sacked as Pakistan T20I captain

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has formed a seven-member senior selection committee, including former stars like Mohammed Yousuf, Abdul Razzak and Asad Shafiq, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. While addressing the media, Naqvi hinted at a change in the leadership group, meaning Shaheen Afridi’s position as the T20I captain came under a dark cloud.

Naqvi also said that this committee was formed to select the men’s national team for the international tours while confirming his non-interference in related matters.&nbsp;

"I have mandated the seven-member selection committee, consisting of four former Test players, with the powers to select the national men's teams for international cricket. I will not interfere with the working of the selection committee. They are experienced and professional in their domain and I am confident that they will do their job with dedication and honesty," PCB chairman Naqvi said.

As per reports, the PCB will name 27 players for the training camp with the Pakistan Army to be held in Kakul. The committee will determine the new leadership group after the camp.&nbsp;

Former Australia allrounder Shane Watson has pulled out of the race to become Pakistan's new head coach despite having a lucrative offer at hand. PCB's preferred candidate, Watson, was in advanced discussions with the board regarding taking over the top job in Pakistan cricket; however, his prior commentary and coaching commitments saw him dropping out at this stage.

Watson coached Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this season, having thoroughly enjoyed his time working with Pakistani players. Given the packed schedule with the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June, Watson looked forward to working with them.&nbsp;

Watson currently has a commentary deal at the IPL, besides being a head coach of the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket (in the USA). Above all, Watson also has a young family to look after in Sydney.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, as per the reports doing rounds in local media, the PCB had offered Watson a whopping US$2 million a year deal, with the latest reports suggesting the exact number is close to half of it.

Following an under-par 50-over World Cup last year, wherein Pakistan failed to reach the semis despite having favourable conditions, the cricket board sacked the entire backroom staff, including team director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn.&nbsp;

Although PCB picked former captain Mohammad Hafeez as the new team director for the tours Down Under (against Australia and New Zealand), his stay was cut short following horrid results, with Pakistan returning empty-handed regarding the series win. Hafeez's coaching style and rigid approach led to a rift between the players and him, eventually resulting in his exit.&nbsp;

Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa in an ODI tri-series in 2025, the newly-elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed on Friday (March 15) in a press release. Pakistan will host a tri-series for the first time in 20 years, having last played&nbsp;against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe at home in 2004.

As per the release,&nbsp;PCB chairman Naqvi met with Lawson Naidoo - Cricket South Africa (CSA) chairman, and Roger Twose, Chairman of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), ahead of the ICC meeting in Dubai, locking in the historic tri-series for February 2025 window, just ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan.

Following thorough talks around the same, Naqvi also invited both chairmen to visit Pakistan during the tri-series.

PCB boss Naqvi sounded elated in confirming this tournament on his home soil for the first time in two decades. The chairman also expressed his gratitude towards CSA and NZC heads for accepting the proposal to be part of the returning tri-series format.&nbsp;

Naqvi also shared his thoughts on Pakistan hosting a multi-team tournament for the first time since Asia Cup 2008.

“The tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand will be an exciting event, and it is after a long time that Pakistan will host such a tournament.&nbsp;

“I would like to thank the heads of NZC and CSA for agreeing to participate in the Tri-series. The PCB is also looking forward to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on its soil,” Naqvi said.

<h2>India’s participation still in doubt</h2>

Having denied travelling to Pakistan for last year's Asia Cup due to political and security reasons, the BCCI remains firm on their stance of not travelling to the neighbouring country for the eight-team tournament, originally scheduled to take place in Pakistan in early 2025.

Though the Indian board is yet to take a call on travelling to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the chances of it look bleak. However, picking a neutral venue for the tournament, like the UAE, is a viable option here.&nbsp;

More details will get public following ICC’s meeting in Dubai in March.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will face off in the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York on June 9. Drawn together in Group A, the two Asian giants will clash at the newly built 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, 30 miles east of Manhattan in the marquee clash.&nbsp;

Pakistan set to host ODI Tri-Series for first time in 20 years, confirms PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is believed to be a strong contender to take over as the head coach of Pakistan senior men's cricket team.
