Ever since the killing of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul by the United States, questions have been raised about Pakistan’s involvement in giving the country information about the terrorist’s whereabouts. Last week, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the head of the Pakistani Army, asked the US for assistance to obtain an early loan from the IMF. Additionally, according to sources, he engaged in a telephone conversation with the US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, about his efforts to pull Pakistan out of the economic mess. The US feels that the Taliban has violated the deal signed between the two by giving shelter to the Al-Qaeda chief, ANI reported.

According to a report in the Times of Israel, experts believe that the White House may have used pressure methods and sought a trade-off with the country, the US supporting Pakistan during its financial crisis in exchange for Pakistan disclosing the information about the Al-Qaeda chief. Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) Michael Rubin observes that it is unclear from where the drone that fired the two missiles into the terrorist home flew. He further stated that it would be much clearer that Bajwa was involved in the killing if the drones that came from Pakistan.

Since June 2018, Pakistan has been included in the ‘grey list' of countries with weak anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing policies by the Paris-based global watchdog.

Pakistan’s imports, exports, remittances, and restricted access to foreign credit have all suffered due to being added to the grey list. The country was added to the list as it was unsuccessful in implementing the worldwide standards and has made little effort in the investigation and prosecution of leaders of terrorist groups designated by the UN.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled on Tuesday (August 2) that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party had received millions of dollars as prohibited funds.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled on Tuesday (August 2) that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party had received millions of dollars as prohibited funds. As per the media reports, ECP also issued a notice to the party asking why the funds should not be confiscated. The implication of such activities could result in Khan being banned from politics. Notably, Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party rose to prominence on an anti-corruption drive. This particular ruling appears to be a major setback for Imran Khan as he is currently leading a campaign against the new government. ALSO READ | After Ayman al-Zawahiri, this man is touted to helm Al-Qaeda The long-awaited verdict was announced by a three-member ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja. The case was filed by PTI founding member Akbar S Babar. It had been pending since November 14, 2014. As seen by the news agency Reuters, the ruling stated: “The commission is satisfied that the contributions and donations have been received by the respondent party from prohibited sources.” The commission also said that the party also hid 13 accounts. The ruling further added that the declaration submitted to the commission about the party finances by Khan as its chairman from 2008 to 2013 was “found to be grossly inaccurate”. ALSO READ | India extends another $100 million line of credit to Maldives As mentioned by the news agency, the ruling said that PTI received funds from different people and companies abroad, including business tycoon Arif Naqvi, owner of a Dubai-based equity group. Naqvi is among several people charged by US prosecutors with being part of an international scheme to defraud investors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Although, Naqvi has denied all the allegations. The commission said the party was a “willing recipient of prohibited money” amounting to $2.1 million from Naqvi’s Wootton Cricket Limited. The mentioned entity is registered in the Cayman Islands. As per the ruling, several other foreign accounts in the United States, Britain, Australia, UAE, Canada, Switzerland and other countries, deposited money in Khan’s party accounts. No point denying that the Taliban in Kabul has made India nervous just like there’s no doubt that India anticipated nothing less from the United States of America's tacit support to the Pakistan army who in turn sheltered Osama & Haqqani under the Pentagon's complete knowledge. It’s hilarious how the democrats & republicans both took turns, under each of their presidencies and made complete fools of the so-called righteous Americans, under the garb of war on Terror. All this while always being a non-nato ally of Pakistan who harboured UN-designated terrorists as their honoured guests.

Well, how the Americans get played by both their government parties is their fate and how the pentagon has gone all out to support many morally degraded armies and even terrorists in the past, could be a thesis in itself.

India always was aware of the corruption dipped Kabul government & army wouldn’t stand against the Taliban, as was rightly mentioned in one of Ajit Doval's speeches in the US. Of course, the story would’ve been different, if the Afghan Tajik+Uzbek+ alliance was to be prepared against the Taliban terrorists. No prizes for guessing which country across the Atlantic didn’t let that be organized. All that’s now for the long history chapter of American shame from WW2, Vietnam etc

Taliban legitimacy desperation and volatile situation in Kabul have thrown many balls up in the air, apparently all over the world. For example, the right-wing Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party should use Merkel and her CDU party's inept handling of natos Afgan policy and show her the door in the upcoming 21 September elections. Closer home, we all know how Modi loves to make every challenge into an opportunity. Well, this just is one of them, provided they meticulously and strongly act on it.

If the past 75 years of analyzing Pakistani terrorism is anything to go by, it’s hogwash to pin it to an ideology. That’s a light bind a moving truck which everyone is running after. The modern-day terrorist is not only equipped with the best arms but now also has at its disposal an airforce, embassies around the world, a seat at the UN, an ecosystem in left media, etc. How? Just connect all dots and they would all lead to the NERVE CENTER of Terrorism i.e. GHQ, Rawalpindi.

Now, remember the mention of balls in the air? Let's catch them one by one and here comes the ‘Defining’ part.

India's defining moment

Pakistan continues to reel under an economic crisis, the country's government has now imposed additional taxes to collect 125 million US dollars from its citizens.

Pakistan: Shehbaz Sharif government imposes additional taxes to raise $125 million

The Shehbaz Sharif-led government of Pakistan has initiated many efforts to combat terror and even engaged the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in peace talks that failed miserably. The administration claimed that terrorists majorly target civilians, governmental institutions, and security personnel. According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, 434 terrorist attacks had taken place in the previous six months. This is happening in the backdrop of the peace negotiations, ANI reported.

As per the reports presented in the Upper House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed the largest number of attacks (247), followed by Balochistan (171), Sindh (12), and Punjab Province with 11 attacks. According to The Nation, the effects of these terrorist attacks have been particularly felt in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and have led to a deadlock in the peace negotiations.

The continuous attempt by the TTP to join Pakistan’s political establishment may encounter obstacles because, as per some experts, the proscribed organisations will hurt the civilians and reduce their access to the democratic system.

Currently, Islamabad has consented to hold new negotiations with the organisation under the direction of the Taliban’s temporary government. A high-level military meeting in Pakistan resolved to conduct peace negotiations with the TTP in accordance with having a comprehensive security plan.

As per the Pakistani media, a shooting incident recently resulted in the deaths of at least six terrorists in the Kech district. However, due to mistrust on both sides, the Ulema delegation was unable to persuade the TTP to stop its attack and attend the peace talks.

A 26-year-old female cop is drawing a lot of attention in Pakistan. Not only because she is employed in a profession that is considered “manly” in a male-dominated country, but also because she belongs to the minority Hindu community.

Manisha Ropeta has become the first woman from the minority Hindu community in Pakistan to become a Deputy Superintendent of Police. She had cracked the coveted Sindh Public Service Commission exam to attain the top post.

Stating the reason why she joined the police forces, Ropeta was quoted as saying, “Women are the most oppressed and the target of many crimes in our society and I joined the police because I feel we need 'protector' women in our society.”

Ropeta, who belongs to a middle-class family from Jacobabad in interior Sindh province, wants to end the preconceived notion that girls with a good family background should not have anything to do with the police or district courts.

“From childhood I and my sisters have seen the same old system of patriarchy where girls are told if they want to get educated and work it can only be as teachers or doctors,” Ropeta said.

Though she is currently under training, Ropeta will be posted in the crime-infested area of Lyari, according to PTI news agency.

She feels that working as a senior police officer really empowers women and gives them authority.

Though she had aspirations to become a doctor initially, there was one turning point in her life that made her choose a different career.

“I had failed to clear MBBS entrance examination by one mark. I then told my family that I was taking a degree in physical therapy but at the same time I prepared for the Sindh Public Services Commission examinations, and I passed that getting 16th position among 468 candidates,” she added.

Her three other sisters are all doctors and her youngest brother is also studying medicine.

“I want to lead a feminisation drive and encourage gender equality in the police force. I myself have always been very inspired and attracted to the police work,” the DSP says.
