A terrorist named Yasser Ghandi, who allegedly participated in the October 7 attack on Israel, was killed in the frequent IDF drone strike in Gaza, The Times Of Israel reported.&nbsp;

According to the report by the news agency, the Israeli military said it had targeted a cell where gunmen were spotted operating in the Shejaiya neighbourhood of Gaza City.

Among the dead was Ghandi who according to the IDF infiltrated into Israel and participated in the attacks on October 7.

The IDF claim came the same day an Israeli strike hit the tents of displaced Palestinians in the central Gazan city of Deir Al-Balah, killing two people.

Video obtained by Reuters showed firefighters battling a fire in at least one of the tents and what appeared to be tins of canned food lying among the debris.

The strike on the tents came as the Israeli military said on Tuesday it had delivered hundreds of packets of food to cut-off areas of northern Gaza.

Israel had announced the opening of an additional aid crossing into Gaza, just hours before the deadline set by outgoing President Joe Biden's administration to improve the humanitarian conditions in Gaza or risk a cut to military assistance.

Last month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin sent a letter to Israel setting a deadline of November 13 to comply with US law on permitting humanitarian assistance.

Asked if Israel had met the demands, State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said: "We have not made an assessment that they are in violation of US law.

"The overall humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to be unsatisfactory. But in the context of the letter, it's not about whether we find something satisfactory or not; it's what are the actions that we're seeing.

A new footage of dead Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was released by Israel on Sunday (October 20) in which he was seen shifting his belongings along with his family members through a tunnel in Gaza hours before the October 7 attack on Tel Aviv.&nbsp;

Israel released the footage after the IDF troops&nbsp;killed Sinwar in the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Wednesday (Oct 16). In the video, Sinwar, his wife and children are seen shifting their personal belongings which included television, water, pillows and mattresses through the tunnel, which according to Israeli army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari was beneath their home in Khan Younis.

He said, "Mum, rockets are (falling) everywhere. I don't know what is going on. Mum, I love you."&nbsp;

His mother told reporters in Athens in November that her life had become "a nightmare" and the last glimpse she had of her son was a Hamas video released shortly after the attack.&nbsp;

She said, "He was lying on the ground. He was terrified, terrified."&nbsp;

Shlomi Ziv (41)&nbsp;

Israeli media reported that Shlomi Ziv was part of the security team at the Supernova music festival and one of his two sisters spoke to him at 7:30 am (local time) on the day of the attack.&nbsp;

He told her there had been shooting and rocket fire and there was a bottleneck of cars trying to leave the site. He had told his sister that he would call back, but it apparently never happened.&nbsp;

Ziv lived with his wife in the town of Elkosh near the Lebanese border. He worked as a wholesale distributor but had recently studied to become an interior designer.&nbsp;

Gaza war: Noa Argamani and other rescued hostages' fateful encounter with Hamas on Oct 7

Iranian leaders "did not orchestrate nor had foreknowledge of the Hamas attack against Israel", a US intelligence assessment report released on Monday (March 11) claimed while referring to the October 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel in which around 1200 people were killed. But it added that Tehran has since encouraged its proxy militias in the region to mount attacks against Israeli and US interests.

The report, which also included testimonies from forensic experts, eyewitnesses, news articles and first responders, claimed that Hamas militants - who had barged into Israel - carried out extreme acts of sexual violence and in many cases, killed them “after or even during the rape".

The report has not mentioned how many cases of sexual assault have been documented and has not even clarified if they spoke to the victims, although it added that in most cases “the victims were killed after or even during the rape.”

“Many of those who have been raped and tortured were murdered, unable to ever voice their experiences. When most of the victims of sexual assaults are murdered, we have a moral and humanitarian obligation to amplify their silent cry,” the report stated.&nbsp;

As per the evidence collected by the ARCCI, men, women, and children, all became victims of gruesome sexual abuse which took place on October 7.&nbsp;

The report further tells about the testimonies submitted by some of the survivors which narrate&nbsp;the brutal nature of the sexual crimes, including the ones which took place at the Nova music festival, in southern Israel.

The report stated that “several survivors of the massacre (Nova) provided eyewitness testimony of gang rape, where women were abused and handled between multiple terrorists who beat, injured, and ultimately killed them.”

The report further said that some rapes took place in front of an “audience” of the victims’ friends, partners or family and intended to “increase pain and humiliation of all present".&nbsp;

As per the report, some of the victims lived in communities near the Gaza Strip&nbsp;and were women or young girls “who were raped, mostly in their bedrooms, while partially dressed in their pyjamas.”

<h2>US raises Israel’s security concerns</h2>

The current hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the top UN court, are based on the UN General Assembly’s request in 2022 to issue a non-binding opinion on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.&nbsp;

“Any movement towards Israel’s withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza requires consideration for Israel’s very real security needs,” Richard Visek, acting legal adviser at the US State Department told the court.&nbsp;

He also noted that the UNGA had asked the UN court to opine on the consequences of Israeli occupation prior to Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.&nbsp;

“We were all reminded of those security needs on October 7, and they persist. Regrettably those needs have been ignored by many of the participants,” Visek added.&nbsp;

He called on the judges to stick to the established UN framework for the two-state solution.&nbsp;

Washington has been “engaging intensively” with Palestinians, Israel, and other states to not only address the current crisis in Gaza but also “a political settlement that will lead to a durable peace in the region that includes lasting security…and a path to Palestinian statehood,” said the acting legal adviser.&nbsp;

He added, “There is broad international support for achieving a negotiated solution to the conflict that will give rise to a Palestinian state.”&nbsp;

Therefore, the court “should not find that Israel is legally obligated to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from occupied territory,” said the US legal adviser.&nbsp;

Notably, the US amid protests and criticism of Israel’s military action in Gaza continues to back Israel, while President Joe Biden’s administration continues to insist on a two-state solution for the region. However, the leaders of the Jewish state do not agree with the same.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Flagrant violation of international law’</h2>

The UN top court also heard from Vladimir Tarabrin, Russia’s ambassador to the Netherlands who spoke about the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza while condemning the October 7 attack on Israel.&nbsp;

He went on to slam Israel’s retaliation to the attack and called it “collective punishment” which cannot be justified. Around 90 per cent of Gazans have been forced to leave their homes and they are living in inhumane conditions, said Tarabrin.&nbsp;

The Russian ambassador said&nbsp;the UN Security Council has agreed that Israeli settlements in the West Bank constitute a “flagrant violation of international law and a major obstacle to the two-state solution and a just and lasting peace”.&nbsp;

<h2>ICJ hearings on Israel’s occupation</h2>

The UN top court is hearing arguments from an unprecedented 52 countries on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands that will go on till February 26.&nbsp;

However, the ICJ has been asked not to opine on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the occupied territories, but many states participating in the hearings have called on Israel to do so.&nbsp;

The 15-judge panel has around six months to issue their opinion on the request.&nbsp;

<h2>What Israel has to say</h2>

Israel, which is not participating in the hearings, said in a written statement that the UN court’s involvement could be harmful to achieving a negotiated settlement.&nbsp;

Amid the ongoing hearing at The Hague, on Wednesday, the Israeli parliament, Knesset, voted to back Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration opposing the “unilateral” creation of a Palestinian state.&nbsp;

Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party said 99 out of the 120 lawmakers voted in support of the declaration, passed earlier this week by the cabinet, rejecting all “international dictates” seeking to push for Palestinian statehood.&nbsp;

Israel said that it will stop the operations of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza once the war gets over, said a minister on Saturday (Jan 27) after several UNRWA staff were accused by Tel Aviv of being involved in Hamas's October 7 attack.

Taking to X, Israel Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that the country is aiming to ensure "UNRWA will not be a part of the day after", adding that he will try getting more support from the European Union, United States, and other major contributors to the agency.

Meanwhile, Palestinian militant group Hamas slammed the “threats” issued by Israel against UNRWA and appealed to the UN and other international organisations not to "cave in to the threats and blackmail".

"We ask the UN and the international organisations to not cave in to the threats and blackmail&nbsp;from Israel," said Hamas's press office, in a post on Telegram.

On Friday (Jan 26), the UNRWA said that it had sacked many employees who were accused of being involved in Hamas'&nbsp;unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel and led the United States to stop critical funding.

Head of the agency Philippe Lazzarini promised to hold "accountable, including through criminal prosecution" any UNRWA employee who is found to be involved in acts of terror.

Responding to the firing of employees, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said that an "urgent and comprehensive independent review of UNRWA", will be conducted, as stated by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

The US State Department announced that it has "temporarily paused additional funding" to the agency while the claims are being reviewed by the officials. Twelve employees "may have been involved", it said.

Canada and Australia also temporarily suspended their funding to the agency.
