India's capital city of Delhi has a notorious reputation for being unsafe for women. Recently released data by the country's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has done little to improve on the said reputation by terming Delhi as the most unsafe metropolitan city in India for women.

Reportedly, Delhi saw a more than 40 per cent rise in crimes against women in 2021, compared to a year prior. A total of 13,500 crimes were reported against the fairer sex in 2021, compared to a little under 10,000 in 2020.

Of the 43,414 crimes reported against women in 19 major cities across the country, Delhi accounted for 32.20 per cent of the cases, suggesting that law and order authorities were not working properly to create a safe environment for women.

Amongst the category of crimes, over 3,948 cases of abduction and kidnapping were reported while 2,022 cases of assault on women with an intent to outrage their modesty were registered by the Bureau.

Similarly, 1,357 reported cases were under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (girl child victims only) while 833 cases of girl child rape came from the capital city alone.

However, what may come as most surprising is the cases of dowry deaths, despite a concerted campaign by the central and state government to discourage dowry.

According to the data, the national capital witnessed 136 cases of dowry deaths, which again accounted for 36.36 per cent of the total cases.

Over 80 per cent of Futaba's total land area is still classified as "difficult-to-return" zones even though people are now permitted to return home. However, as per an IANS report, only a few former inhabitants are anticipated to move back in.

Xinhua news agency reports that the town where the Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. complex is located was given the go-ahead to evacuate after a magnitude-9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, rendering the region uninhabitable due to high radiation levels.

In addition, according to a study conducted last year, 60.5 per cent of the residents had made the decision not to move back, outnumbering the 11.3 per cent who had shown a desire to do so, according to Kyodo News.

As of late July 3,574 individuals from 1,449 homes, or more than 60 per cent of the town's population, were listed as residents of the two regions.

However, only 85 people from 52 families participated in a preparatory programme that began in January, according to the study, which allowed residents to return temporarily. IANS also reported that the municipal authority hopes to see a rise in the population to 2,000 by the year 2030.

Leaders and funders of the Republican Party are suddenly vocalising their concern about their election prospects.

It appeared certain that their party would win both the US House and the Senate in 2022 five months ago. Republicans seemed prepared to extend their advantages over Democrats in terms of the number of governorships and state legislatures they now hold. And best of all, it appeared that they had subtly disregarded former President Donald Trump.

Their future seems uncertain right now. Price drops for gasoline have occurred. Since Roe v. Wade was overruled by the Supreme Court, pro-abortion voters have increased, including those nonreligious but otherwise conservative women who might have voted Republican.

Their chances of winning the Senate are over since Trump interfered in primaries and nominated a number of undesirable candidates in swing states that needed to win. Politico published remarks from the Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel's tense conference call with significant donors on Wednesday. Small-donation amounts to Senate candidates have dramatically decreased, despite a rise in Democratic financing, as per The Atlantic.

Worst of all, in the eyes of Republican leaders, Trump's support among tribal Republicans has increased as a result of the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago. In a potential primary election in 2024, the search increased his fundraising to $1 million a day and contributed to his growing lead over Governor Ron DeSantis. According to a poll cited by NBC, Trump and DeSantis were neck-and-neck in a field of candidates. After the search, he outscored DeSantis 52–20. Republican leaders are aware that Trump is a loser in the general election, despite the fact that the Republican base loves him. Trump leading the ticket in 2024 is a recipe for disaster; simply a reminder that Trump is still at large in 2022 harms the down-ballot candidates. Republican leaders have begged with Trump to postpone any declaration of a 2024 election because of this.

Biden's plan to cut student loan debt will only make things worse for the GOP. The Democratic Party's biggest challenge going into this election was the lack of interest among younger voters. Only approximately 28% of voters under 35 indicated "strong interest" in the 2022 election earlier this year. That's the same as in 2014, a disastrous year for Democrats, and significantly below the 39% who indicated "strong interest" at this point in 2018, a good year for Democrats. Biden has now significantly benefited people who have student loan debt. They will act as a solid barrier against any red flood if they turn out to vote for him and reward him.

When it comes to purchasing votes ahead of elections, Republicans are not helpless victims. President Trump increased payments to farm families by almost quadruple, from $11.5 billion in 2017 to $32 billion in 2020, in order to ease the pain of his trade war with China before of the 2020 election. But compared to Trump's agriculture subsidy, Biden's initiative to reduce student loan debt is significantly higher, costing at least $330 billion over 10 years and maybe as much as $1 trillion.

The message for Republican donors and leaders is that supporting Trump will cost money. The GOP's chances of winning the election are being harmed by Trump and pro-Trump candidates. Trump lost the 2020 presidential election. The GOP's control of the US Senate was lost in 2021 due to pro-Trump candidates. More Trump-supporting politicians are falling terribly.

In 2021, Trump tried one strategy to get out of this jam: he violently overthrew the results of his election. That did not succeed.
State-level pro-Trump politicians have tried alternative strategies, such as altering election laws to their advantage. At the edges, that might work. Marginal advantages might not be sufficient in the event of a major event, such as the overturning of Roe v. Wade. A party needs a wide coalition in order to continuously win. A party that continues to disenfranchise large groups of voters by putting forth extremists, felons, and outlandish candidates is a party that has given up on governing. Republicans are currently assessing the price of such abdication in terms of dollars and cents. According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, student debt relief will cost the typical taxpayer $2,000 on average.

The cost of Trump to the Republican Party and its supporters is much greater than just that one remark. Republicans won't understand that he and his faction won't go away on their own until more laws are introduced. They'll need to take hold of him and push him out the door with their own hands if they want to see his back. If they don't, their contributors should get used to receiving more significant donations for more Democratic candidates in the upcoming election cycles.

Something weird happened with American singer Harry Styles as he was performing on stage at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. A few chicken nuggets fell near the One Direction star's feet and he immediately stopped the show to address the disruptive fan who was throwing objects on the stage to gain his attention. A video of his humour-filled banter with a fan is going viral on social media.

Former One Direction star Harry, who is a vegetarian by choice, stopped singing as he discovered a chicken nugget on the stage. He picked up the food from the floor and asked, "Is this a chicken nugget?"

While holding the chicken nugget in his hand and walking around the stage, he said, "Interesting, very interesting approach."

In an attempt to find the culprit, Harry asked the crowd, "Who threw the chicken nugget?" When he supposedly found the culprit, he threw the nugget back at him and said, "There you go, you can have your nugget back."

Later, the singer also shared that he doesn't eat meat.

Major South Korean battery maker LG and Japanese automaker Honda are investing $4.4 billion in a joint venture in the United States to produce batteries for Honda electric vehicles in the North American market, the two companies said Monday.

The plant’s site is still undecided, but construction will begin in early 2023, with mass production of advanced lithium-ion battery cells to start by the end of 2025. It’s likely to be near Marysville, Ohio, or Greensburg, Indiana, where Honda has huge factories that make its most popular models such as the Accord, CR-V and Civic.

The joint venture is to be set up this year, with the closing of the deal subject to regulatory approval.

“Our joint venture with Honda, which has significant brand reputation, is yet another milestone in our mid- to long-term strategy of promoting electrification in the fast-growing North American market,” said LG Energy Solution Chief Executive Youngsoo Kwon.

The plant will produce batteries exclusively for Honda vehicles assembled in North America, including the company’s Acura luxury brand, according to a joint statement.

Honda’s joint venture plant is part of a larger trend of automakers announcing US battery factories as they try to establish a domestic supply chain for the next generation of vehicle propulsion. Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Hyundai-Kia, Stellantis and VinFast have announced plans for 10 US battery plants.

A new US law gives them even more incentive to build batteries in North America. It includes a tax credit of up to $7,500 that could be used to defray the cost of purchasing an electric vehicle. But to qualify for the full credit, the electric vehicle must contain a battery built in North America with 40 per cent of the metals mined or recycled on the continent.

“Honda is working toward our target to realize carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities the company is involved in by 2050,” said Honda Chief Executive Toshihiro Mibe.

The company is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, but has operations across the world, including the US, China and Australia.

Demand for electric vehicles is expected to grow in the US and many other nations because of concerns about climate change and pollution, as well as rising gas prices. All of the world’s top automakers are strengthening their EV lineups.

LMC Automotive, a Detroit-area consulting firm, expects EVs to be 5.6 per cent of US new vehicle sales this year, rising to more than 36 per cent by 2030. Globally, LMC says 8.6 per cent of new vehicle sales will be electric this year, and that will jump to 33 per cent by 2030.

Europe is reeling under a major energy crisis in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war. Now, Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten has shot off a warning that the continent faces terrible winters for the next 5-10 years if no cap is put on the gas prices. “The next 5 to 10 winters will be terrible if nothing is done, We must act at the source, at [the] European level, and work on freezing gas prices,” tweeted Van der Straeten. Les 5 à 10 prochains hivers seront terribles si on ne fait rien. Il faut agir à la source, au niveau européen et travailler sur un blocage des prix pour le gaz. On pourrait ainsi réduire la facture énergétique de 770 euros. — Tinne Van der Straeten (@TinneVdS) August 28, 2022 × The minister further stated that if the gas prices are capped, it could help reduce energy bills by $771 per year, per family. "There is an urgent need to introduce a European price cap. This can reduce the energy bill by 770 euros per year per family. At the EU level, the price cap has the greatest impact, but we can no longer rule out price blocks at the Belgian level either," The Belgian minister also asserted that her country had put the proposal in front of the EU with Germany backing it as well. “The European energy market is failing and urgently needs reform. This is no longer tenable for many families and companies. Electricity is produced as cheaply as last year but sold at record prices. By reforming, we are tackling exuberant excess profits.” added Van der Straeten. Venezuela and Colombia restored full diplomatic relations Sunday after a three-year break, as a new leftist government in Bogota takes shape.

A new Colombian ambassador, Armando Benedetti, arrived in Caracas and said on Twitter: "Relations with Venezuela should never have been severed. We are brothers and an imaginary line cannot separate us."

He was welcomed by deputy foreign minister Rander Pena Ramirez, who tweeted that "our historical ties summon us to work together for the happiness of our peoples."

Colombia's new leftist president, Gustavo Petro, and Venezuela's socialist president Nicolas Maduro announced on August 11 that they planned to restore diplomatic relations that were severed in 2019.

That rupture was the culmination of years of tension between leftist Venezuela and Colombia under successive conservative presidents, starting with Alvaro Uribe.

Embassies and consulates in both countries were closed, and flights between the neighbors grounded.

Even the 2,000-kilometer (1,200-mile) land border between the two countries was closed between 2019 and October 2021, when it was opened to pedestrians only.

Petro is Colombia's first leftist president.

The last president in Colombia, Ivan Duque, did not recognize Maduro as president -- but rather opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Colombia was one of around 60 countries to do so, having rejected Venezuela's 2018 presidential election, which was boycotted by the opposition.

In addition to exchanging ambassadors, the normalization process will include the full reopening of the border, which has remained largely closed to vehicles.

The porous frontier has been the scene of clashes between armed groups.

Caracas and Bogota have also announced intentions to restore military relations.

Benedetti said more than eight million Colombians make a living from trade with Venezuela, which is why one of the objectives is to re-establish trade relations between the two countries.

A similar expectation exists on the Venezuelan side, where industrialists want to normalize the trade that reached $7.2 billion in 2008 but collapsed with the border closure.

He was welcomed by deputy foreign minister Rander Pena Ramirez, who tweeted that "our historical ties summon us to work together for the happiness of our peoples." Embassies and consulates in both countries were closed, and flights between the neighbors grounded.

It is also the birthplace of global mobile giant Huawei.
