Thanks to Ravindra, New Zealand posted 362/6 in 50 overs - the highest ever innings total in the Champions Trophy. In reply, South Africa could only manage 312/9 - that too thanks to a 67-ball ton by David Miller which came rather too late.

<h2>New Zealand irked by Trump&rsquo;s claim</h2>
Nick Smith, the mayor of Nelson, the city near which Rutherford grew up, said he would invite the US ambassador to New Zealand to &ldquo;visit the Lord Rutherford memorial in Brightwater so we can keep the historic record on who split the atom first accurate&rdquo;.
Rutherford is often referred to as the father of nuclear physics for his pioneering research in both atomic and nuclear physics and was honoured with a Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1908.

&ldquo;Rutherford&rsquo;s ground breaking research on radio communication, radioactivity, the structure of the atom and ultra sound technology were done at Cambridge and Manchester Universities in the UK and McGill University in Montreal Canada ( not part of the USA - yet),&rdquo; he added.
The editor of the satirical news site The Civilian Ben Uffindell had a similar reaction. &ldquo;Okay, I&rsquo;ve gotta call time. Trump just claimed America split the atom. That&rsquo;s THE ONE THING WE DID,&rdquo; Uffindell posted on X.

Since the 1800s, seven such whales have been documented and one of them has been found in New Zealand.

The five-metre-long male whale had washed ashore in Otago, South Island, in July. The discovery of the whale had created excitement in cetacean specialists who had little knowledge of such rare creatures on the basis of the tissue and bones of earlier such specimens, which were found decades before.&nbsp;

On Monday (December 2), international and local scientists gathered along with local Maori and started the examination of the whale at the Invermay Agresearch Centre in Mosgiel.

The atmosphere in the centre has been of “reverence” for the animal, explained Anton van Helden, who is a global expert on the spade-toothed whale and a science adviser at the Department of Conservation.&nbsp;

“We’re working around a dead animal, but it’s telling us about how it [lived], and also that’s unpacking all of the life stories of the people involved around it,” Helden said.

The paper's lead author, Van Helden, said that the appearance of the species has given an opportunity to examine the whale, which is “an incredible moment”.

"Our position as the National Party is unchanged. We won't be supporting the bill beyond the second reading, and therefore it won't become law," Luxon said, according to the New Zealand Herald.

Bracewell was provisionally suspended on April 11, 2023 after "admitted using cocaine but maintained that his use occurred out-of-competition, being prior to midnight on the day before the match, and that it was unrelated to sport performance."

The Sports Integrity Commission, however, didn't accept the part of the statement in which Bracewell claimed the use of cocaine was out-of-competition.

A hearing was scheduled in December next month after the evidence was filed by both the parties. On November 11, however, a joint statement was filed before the tribunal "in which the Commission indicated that, having considered all the evidence filed in this proceeding, on balance, it accepted Mr Bracewell's position".

Subsequently, both parties "agreed that the appropriate sanction was a period of ineligibility of three months, which would be reduced to one month, as Mr Bracewell had satisfactorily completed a Substance of Abuse treatment programme approved by the Commission".

Bracewell, who has played 28 Tests, 21 ODIs and 20 T20Is for New Zealand, last played for the Blackcaps in a Test in 2023 against Sri Lanka.

The pacer, with 120 international wickets, decided to opt out of NZ's central contract this year and became a freelancer in global cricket leagues.

He is next expected to play in the Abu Dhabi T10 league for the New York Strikers before turning up in the SA20 next year for Joburg Super Kings.

As parliamentarians gathered for a preliminary vote on the bill, Te Pati Maori MPs stood up and began the traditional Maori dance, haka.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, many principles have been developed and continue to evolve, but the most recognised and broadly ones are participation, partnership, protection, and redress.

The court rulings and a separate Maori tribunal have seen an expansion in Maori rights and privileges over the decades.

However, some argue that this has discriminated against non-Indigenous citizens.&nbsp;

The critics of the bill said that the act's proposal undermines the treaty and its principles, which according to them threaten Maori rights and promote anti-Maori rhetoric.&nbsp;

His address was met with disapproval from opposition parties, prompting the speaker of the house to repeatedly ask for the "barrage" of rebuttals to stop.&nbsp;

Further, over 40 king's counsel lawyers wrote an open letter to New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the attorney general Judith Collins, and urged them to abandon the bill.&nbsp;

The justice committee is expected to hear submissions on the bill, which will probably take six months. After this, it will return to Parliament for a second reading.&nbsp;
