Young fast bowler Naseem Shah turned out to be the hero with the bat for his country as he slammed two consecutive sixes against Fazalhaq Farooqi in the final over to take Pakistan home in a thrilling run chase in their Super Four clash against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Wednesday (September 07).

Defending a low-key total of 129 runs, Afghanistan nearly had the game in their bag when Pakistan required 11 runs off the 20th over with just one wicket in hand and two tail-enders out in the middle. However, number ten Naseem had other plans as he finished the game off in style with back-to-back sixes to take Pakistan into the final and set up a mouthwatering title clash with Sri Lanka.

Pakistan's 1-wicket win against Afghanistan has also confirmed defending champions India's exit from Asia Cup 2022. Afghanistan too have been dumped out of the race for the final after losing their first two Super Four games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They will now meet India in their last game on Thursday.

It was yet another action-packed game in Asia Cup as the low-scoring thriller went down the wire in Sharjah before Naseem pulled off an absolutely stunning victory for Pakistan. Chasing a mere 130, Pakistan got off to a poor start and were left reeling at 45/3 inside nine overs before Shadab Khan (36) combined with Iftikhar Ahmed (30) to add 42 runs for the fourth wicket and steady the ship for their team.

Babar Azam reveals Pakistan's gameplan to outclass India, hails new-comer Naseem Shah for performance

Pakistan's pace attack impressed against India despite Babar Azam & Co.'s five-wicket defeat against their arch-rivals in the opening game of Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. While many believed Pakistan's pace battery will lack the firepower in the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi, the likes of Naseem Shah, Shanawaz Dahani and Haris Rauf all managed to impress with their raw pace and precision.

Naseem was one of the stand-out performers for the Men in Green as the young fast bowler shone on his debut in T20Is. Playing his first T20I for Pakistan, the youngster bowled exceptionally well and got his team off to a flying start with opener KL Rahul's wicket in the very first over.

He made life difficult for the Indian batters with his pace and consistency in their 148-run chase at the Dubai International Stadium. He finished his spell with excellent figures of 2/27 in his four overs but his outing was hampered by regular cramps.

The right-arm fast bowler had clutched his lower shin during his second over but continued bowling at a good pace. However, he looked in complete discomfort when he came out to bowl the final over of his spell. He was limping after completing every delivery and had to be attended to by the team's physio before somehow completing his four overs.

Naseem was seen crying as he walked off the field after completing his spell while battling painful cramps in hot and humid weather in Dubai. The young fast bowler also refused to take water from his teammate on his way to the dugout and clearly looked dejected for not being able to complete the spell the way he wanted.

The young fast bowler also refused to take water from his teammate on his way to the dugout and clearly looked dejected for not being able to complete the spell the way he wanted. Naseem Shah cries while walking back to dressing room after battling painful cramps against India - WATCH

It was a proper India-Pakistan clash when both sides faced each other in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, on Sunday (August 28), at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Facing each other for the first time since the 2021 T20 World Cup, held at the same ground, Rohit Sharma-led India were eyeing to settle scores versus Babar Azam's Pakistan following their ten-wicket loss versus the arch-rivals in last year's face-off at the mega event. The match went down to the wire before Hardik Pandya's all-round skills bailed India out and guided them to a five-wicket win.

After delivering with the ball, returning with 3 for 25 after Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4-fer restricted Pakistan to 147 all-out in 19.5 overs following India's decision to bowl first, Hardik came out to bat in the run-chase with India reduced to 89-4 in 14.2 overs. He looked calm and composed as ever and stitched an important 52-run fifth-wicket stand with Ravindra Jadeja (35 off 29 balls) before guiding the team to a thrilling five-wicket win with seven required off the last over. Hardik ended the proceedings with a fine six off Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan's best bowler in the evening, to end with a fine 17-ball 33 not out.

After the match, Hardik gave a sneak peak of his mindset and said at the post-match presentation, "We only needed 7 off the last over, but even if we needed 15, I’d have fancied myself. I know the bowler is under more pressure than I am in the 20th over. I try to keep things simple. In a chase like this, you always plan over-by-over. I always knew that there was one young bowler and also one left-arm spinner."

Pak vs Aus, final Test: Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah's fiery spells give hosts upper hand on riveting Day 2

Quick bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah picked up two wickets apiece on Monday to lead Pakistan's inspired performance against Australia on the first day of the deciding third and final test in Lahore.

Afridi, 21, did the early damage, striking twice in his second over to dismiss opener David Warner for seven and No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne before he had scored, to reduce Australia to 8-2 after they won the toss and opted to bat.

Naseem, 19, drafted into the Pakistan side in place of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, hurt the tourists in the final session, dismissing a well-set Steve Smith for 59 and Travis Head for 26 as Australia reached 232-5 at close.

All-rounder Cameron Green was unbeaten on 20 for Australia with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey eight not out.

After their shaky start, it was opener Usman Khawaja who led Australia's fightback with a resilient 91, adding to scores of 97, 160 and 44 not out in his last three innings in his country of birth.

The left-handed Khawaja, who added 136 for the third wicket with Smith, appeared set for his 12th test hundred before Pakistan captain Babar Azam completed a one-handed catch at slip off spinner Sajid Khan.

Khawaja said some deliveries from the spinners were already gripping and turning and he felt a first-innings total of close to 350 would be good for Australia.

"This one (wicket) is probably some of the toughest to score runs on," the 35-year-old told reporters, adding that he physically struggled during his knock on a hot day.

Wishes have been pouring in from all corners for Virat Kohli after he announced his decision to relinquish India's Test captaincy on Saturday (January 15). Several current and former cricketers have taken to social media to congratulate the former India captain on a successful stint as the leader of the national team in the longest format of the game.

Kohli announced his decision, a day after India's seven-wicket loss in the third and final Test of the recently-concluded three-match Test series against South Africa. The seven-wicket defeat saw India lose the series 2-1 as their dream of winning their maiden Test series against the Proteas in their own backyard remained unfulfilled.

Nonetheless, Kohli signed off as one of the most decorated Test captains of all time. He remains the first Asian captain to win a Test series on Australian soil and led India to some memorable wins both at home and away from home. Kohli is the most successful Indian captain of all time in Tests with 40 wins in 68 matches as skipper of the side.

While the Indian cricket fraternity sent across their wishes on Kohli's stepping down as the Test team captain of the Indian team, former and current Pakistani cricketers also hailed the former Indian skipper on his departure. A number of Pakistani players including the likes of Mohammad Amir, Nasim Shah and others lauded Kohli.
