He spent the last few years importing records from Europe for his music label clients.

But he took the decision to open his own plant -- cutting import taxes and shipping times -- to focus on Indian artists and market tastes from Bollywood to indie pop after recording "growing interest".

Retailers including Walmart have embraced the retro format, and megastars including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles have sent pressing plants around the world into overdrive.

In India, the scale of revival is far smaller -- in part due to lower household incomes -- but younger fans are now joining in the trend.

He sells records for 550-2,500 rupees ($6.50-$30), and believes new vinyl pressed in India will prove popular if it is priced within that bracket.

‘Romance, love, life’: How vinyl is finding way back to India

A recent study has revealed that rents in seven major Indian cities have surged as much as 70 per cent in the last six years, with a significant jump in the last two years. The research conducted by property consultants ANAROCK group revealed a shift in homebuyer preferences, with more people preferring to buy larger properties.

The study polled 7,615 respondents between the ages of 24-78 across 14 Indian cities. The findings showed that 52 per cent of homebuyers in Delhi-NCR opted for 3BHK apartments while 38 per cent preferred 2BHKs.

According to the report, more people now prefer investing in real estate over other assets, with 59 per cent of respondents saying they opt for it over stocks, while 31 per cent preferred investment in stocks.

The report also highlighted the regional buying patterns, with more people in southern India preferring residential plots, when compared to those in northern and western Indian regions.

As per the findings, around one-third of homebuyers in the southern Indian cities of Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad said that they prefer buying residential plots. On the other hand, 70 per cent of buyers in northern and western Indian regions like Delhi-NCR and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) said they preferred apartments.

More people buy properties for personal use rather than investments, the research found. Out of the investors, 57 per cent buy properties for rental income and 20 per cent buy for reselling after appreciation in value.

Despite the rise in property prices, 51 per cent of respondents preferred larger homes, particularly 3BHKs over smaller houses.

The research also revealed that most homebuyers are dissatisfied. Around 53 per cent said they are not happy with present options that are affordable due to cramped areas, poor construction quality, and bad location accessibility.

The high home loan interest rates, which have crossed nine per cent, are a major reason many potential buyers are discouraged and impact the home-buying decision of over 87 per cent of people.

The Taliban regime has appointed Ikramuddin Kamil as the acting consul in the Afghan mission in Mumbai, Afghan media has reported.

It is the first such appointment made by the Taliban set up to any Afghan mission in India.

There was no immediate comment from the Indian side on the appointment that came.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has announced the appointment of Kamil as the acting consul in Mumbai, the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency reported on Monday, citing unnamed sources.

The appointment is part of Kabul's efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with India and enhance its presence abroad, the media outlet said.

Kamil holds a PhD degree in international law and previously served as the deputy director in the department of security cooperation and border affairs in the foreign ministry, it said.

He is expected to facilitate consular services and represent the interests of Afghanistan in India, the report added.

Kamil's appointment comes days after the external affairs ministry's point-person for Afghanistan held talks with the Taliban's acting defence minister, Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, in Kabul.

Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Taliban's deputy foreign minister for political affairs, also posted on X about Kamil's appointment.

Most of the diplomats appointed by the Ashraf Ghani government have already left India.

In May, Zakia Wardak, the seniormost Afghan diplomat in India, resigned from her position after reports emerged that she was caught at the Mumbai airport for allegedly trying to smuggle 25 kg of gold worth Rs 18.6 crore from Dubai.

Wardak had taken charge as the acting ambassador of Afghanistan to New Delhi late last year, after working as the Afghan consul general in Mumbai for more than two years.

She took charge of the Afghan embassy in New Delhi last November, after the mission helmed by then ambassador Farid Mamundzay announced its closure.

Mamundzay, who was an appointee of the Ghani government, had moved to the United Kingdom.

India women's cricket team youngster Jemimah Rodrigues' membership from Mumbai's Khar Gymkhana got cancelled over her father's 'religious activity'. As per the Khar Gymkhana officials, the action was taken after some members questioned the cricketer's father Ivan for using the club premises for “religious activities” and alleged that events were organised to “convert” the “vulnerable”. A 2015 video of Jemimah has also resurfaced where she can be seen participating in an evangelical event organised by 'Bro Manuel Ministries' (an organisation her father, Ivan, has been associated with for long).

The decision to cancel Jemimah's membership was taken at Sunday’s (Oct 20) annual general body meeting. On the other hand, text messages and phone calls were reportedly made to the 24-year-old and her father for comments, however, they went unanswered.

Khar Gymkhana president Vivek Devnani confirmed the action and told The Indian Express, "The honorary three-year membership given to Ms Jemimah Rodrigues was revoked pursuant to a resolution passed by the members who attended the general meeting held on October 20, 2024."

Meanwhile, the club's managing committee member Shiv Malhotra stated, "We came to know that Jemimah Rodrigues’s father was attached to an organisation called Brother Manuel Ministries. They booked the presidential hall for almost a year and a half and held 35 events. We all know what was happening there."

"We hear about conversions all over the country, but it’s happening right under our nose. There was dancing, expensive music equipment, big screens. As per Khar Gymkhana’s bye-laws Rule 4A of the constitution, Khar Gymkhana does not permit any religious activity,” Malhotra further mentioned.

Former Khar Gymkhana president Nitin Gadekar revealed that he came to know about the 'religious activity' courtesy of a staff member. "Me, Malhotra and a few other members went to see it. We saw the room was dark, trance music was playing and a lady was saying ‘He is coming to save us’. In 2023, Khar Gymkhana invited Jemimah to be a member and use its facilities. The youngster, who debuted in 2018, is an integral part of the Indian women's team. She was part of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the Women in Blue failed to reach the semifinals. The mega event, held in UAE, was won by New Zealand.

Mumbai Police doubt Govinda’s version of gunshot injury incident, says report

Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) questioned Anil Makhija for close to seven hours on Monday (30 September) regarding an alleged ticket scam for upcoming Coldplay concerts in January 2025. Makhija is the COO of Big Tree Entertainment, which is the parent company of BookMyShow.

Vyas's complaint to the EOW alleged that BookMyShow had tied-up with ticket reselling platforms such as Viagogo to black-market the concert tickets. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment and disbelief, stating that the tickets for the concert were sold for lakhs of rupees on unofficial websites.

What is the ticket scam all about?

A police officer from the EOW said, "We questioned Anil Makhija, COO of Big Tree Entertainment, for seven hours. We had summoned the CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, however he sent Makhija. We questioned him and are trying to understand the entire matter. He has given answers to our questions (and) we will analyse them and then decide the further course of action."

The complaint said, "The sale of the concert tickets was controlled by BookMyShow in such a manner that the genuine customers... were intentionally logged out of the platform seconds before 12 noon [on 22 September], the time when the tickets went live, or were not allowed to access the platform to buy tickets for the concert."

Further adding, "However, simultaneously, the tickets were made available to Viagogo in bulk, which started black-marketing these tickets at very high prices. A ticket which was sold at INR 2,500 [on BookMyShow] was sold at INR 96,300 [on reselling platforms], which went up to INR 2,50,000."

The concerts are scheduled to take place in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium in the month of January 2025. However, since the tickets were sold out last week rapidly; the overwhelming response crashed BookMyShow’s app and website for a short while, right before the tickets went live at noon on 22 September.

In response to these allegations, a BookMyShow spokesperson earlier said, "It came to our notice that unauthorised platforms listed (and are continuing to list) tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. BookMyShow has no association with any such unauthorised ticket selling/reselling platforms including but not limited to Viagogo and Gigsberg or third-party individuals for the purpose of reselling Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India."

The spokesperson further emphasised, "Scalping and black marketing of tickets is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India and BookMyShow vehemently opposes this practice. We have not only filed a complaint with the police authorities but are also proactively working with them to provide complete support in the investigation of this matter in any manner that may be required."

The company also cautioned consumers, highlighting, "To our consumers, we would like to reiterate that any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at their own risk and may likely be invalid or fake tickets."

We had summoned the CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, however he sent Makhija. We questioned him and are trying to understand the entire matter. He has given answers to our questions (and) we will analyse them and then decide the further course of action." The complaint said, "The sale of the concert tickets was controlled by BookMyShow in such a manner that the genuine customers... were intentionally logged out of the platform seconds before 12 noon [on 22 September], the time when the tickets went live, or were not allowed to access the platform to buy tickets for the concert." Further adding, "However, simultaneously, the tickets were made available to Viagogo in bulk, which started black-marketing these tickets at very high prices. A ticket which was sold at INR 2,500 [on BookMyShow] was sold at INR 96,300 [on reselling platforms], which went up to INR 2,50,000." Netizens react: The concerts are scheduled to take place in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium in the month of January 2025. However, since the tickets were sold out last week rapidly; the overwhelming response crashed BookMyShow’s app and website for a short while, right before the tickets went live at noon on 22 September. BookMyShow has no association with any such unauthorised ticket selling/reselling platforms including but not limited to Viagogo and Gigsberg or third-party individuals for the purpose of reselling Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India." The spokesperson further emphasised, "Scalping and black marketing of tickets is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India and BookMyShow vehemently opposes this practice. We have not only filed a complaint with the police authorities but are also proactively working with them to provide complete support in the investigation of this matter in any manner that may be required." The company also cautioned consumers, highlighting, "To our consumers, we would like to reiterate that any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at their own risk and may likely be invalid or fake tickets."

His comments followed an incident in Thane's Badlapur, where police shot and killed a man accused of sexually assaulting two young girls earlier in the week.

While speaking at an event hosted by a news channel in Mumbai, Fadnavis, who also oversees the Home Department, explained that the suspect, Akshay Shinde, was killed in "self-defence."
