India's premier investigative agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has started investigating allegations against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra related to the 'cash-for-query' controversy, media reports said citing sources.&nbsp;

While a senior CBI official reportedly clarified that no Preliminary Enquiry (PE) has been registered yet, an investigation has been initiated after the matter was referred by the anti-corruption body Lokpal.

Moitra is under scrutiny for her involvement in the "cash-for-query" controversy, with the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee recently recommending her expulsion from the Lower House of the Indian Parliament.&nbsp;

The committee, which investigated the allegations adopted a report with a 6:4 majority, proposing the expulsion of the TMC member.

Other opposition members, including BSP MP Danish Ali, Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav, and Congress MP Uttam Kumar Reddy, also walked out, raising objections to the proceedings.

In an attempt to keep all bases covered and avoid any anti-incumbency, the party has gone all in by parachuting two union ministers and high-profile MPs into the second list of candidates.&nbsp;

Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Singh Patel, minister of&nbsp;state for food processing have found themselves in the reckoning for the elections, scheduled to take place in or before November.&nbsp;

While Tomar will contest from the Dimani constituency,&nbsp;Patel will take up the fight from the Narsinghpur area. Besides the cabinet ministers, Rakesh Singh, Ganesh Singh, Riti Pathak and Uday Pratap Singh - all Lok Sabha MPs will be taking the field as well.&nbsp;

Additionally,&nbsp;BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya will contest from the Indore-1 assembly constituency.

Referring to the recent women's reservation bill brought by the BJP government in the parliament, the PM said:&nbsp;"The&nbsp;ghamandia (arrogant)&nbsp;alliance reluctantly supported the women's reservation bill."

Batting on PM Modi's home turf, the BJP changed its state leadership, installed a new council of ministers and dropped more than 45 per cent of the sitting MLAs while bringing the old workhorses to use their wisdom and age to plug the gaps.&nbsp;

With the 2024 general elections not far away, poll pundits have termed the battle in Madhya Pradesh the semi-final ahead of the big test which could show the pulse of the nation. However, as has been proven multiple times in the last decade or so, the assembly election results have little to no bearing on the general elections, especially when PM Modi is leading the flanks for his side.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A group of MPs from the opposition alliance INDIA will visit Manipur on July 29 and 30 to assess the situation in the northeastern state which has been engulfed in ethnic violence since May 3.

The delegation of more than 20 opposition MPs will visit Manipur this weekend and will take a first-hand account of the situation in the state, Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore told PTI.

Sources said that one MP each from parties of INDIA bloc or their representatives are expected to be part of the delegation.

The delegation will visit both the valley and the hill regions of the state and meet different communities there. They will also visit some relief camps.

TMC's Sushmita Dev, JMM's Mahua Maji and NCP's Vandana Chavan are likely to be part of the delegation.

The delegation of more than 20 opposition MPs will visit Manipur this weekend and will take a first-hand account of the situation in the state, Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore told PTI. Sources said that one MP each from parties of INDIA bloc or their representatives are expected to be part of the delegation. The delegation will visit both the valley and the hill regions of the state and meet different communities there. They will also visit some relief camps. As per the Canadian intelligence report from 2021 quoted by country's Globe and Mail newspaper, Beijing requested for details about Chong and his family. The intimidation effort was made in order to stomp down China's authority by making "an example" and also to "deter others from taking anti-PRC position," the paper reported.

Chinese Ambassador Cong Peiwu was summoned by the top Canadian foreign ministry official on Thursday. Cong registered a strong protest and called a possible expulsion of a Chinese diplomat a "threat."&nbsp;

For the first time ever in 70 years, a Japanese lawmaker has been expelled from the country's parliament after he never attended any of its sessions. Yoshikazu Higashitani, a celebrity gossip YouTuber turned MP, has found himself in an unlikely position after he remained missing from the House of Councillors for over seven months.

According to local media reports, Higashitani's expulsion is set to be formalised next week. The parliament's discipline committee, acting at the behest of Higashitani's Senate colleagues, brought in the motion and had it passed.&nbsp;

Known popularly as&nbsp;GaaSyy&nbsp;on YouTube, experts said Higashitani appeared more interested in celebrity gossip videos than working for the people who elected and sent him to parliament.&nbsp;

“The committee has reached this conclusion after discussing the matter in consideration of the significance of the democratic electoral process,” Muneo Suzuki, head of the chamber’s disciplinary committee told the reporters.&nbsp;“GaaSyy doesn’t understand the foundations of democracy, which is based on laws and rules.”

Unlike most political parties, Seijika Joshi 48 is a single-issue party; meaning it only calls for reforms to Japan's public broadcaster.&nbsp;

Higashitani is one of the two lawmakers from the party to have been elected to the parliament. The other has attended the parliamentary sessions.&nbsp;

Higashitani, 51, was staying in Dubai all this while and feared that he may be arrested if he set foot in Japan. Higashitani is reportedly facing questioning over an alleged defamation case.

Expelling a sitting lawmaker is seen as the most severe punishment that a lawmaker can receive. The precedent has been set only two times since 1950 but this is the first instance when an MP has been expelled due to continued absence.

While lawmakers are immune from arrest during parliamentary sessions, once&nbsp;Higashitani formally loses his position, he may not have the same right.&nbsp;

On Saturday, she was shot dead by unknown assailants in Kabul.&nbsp;

<h2>Who was Mursal Nabizada?&nbsp;</h2>

Mursal Nabizada was born in Afghanistan's Nangarhar Province in 1993. In 2018, when Afghanistan had a democratic government led by Hamid Karzai, she was chosen to represent the eastern province of Nangarhar. As Kabul's representative from 2019, Nabizada held office until the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. She worked at the Institute for Human Resources Development and Research outside of parliament. She spoke out against the Taliban's anti-women policies in addition to representing Kabul in the Afghan National Assembly.

According to multiple reports, Nabizada and her bodyguard were shot dead at their house on Saturday by unidentified gunmen. Her brother and a second bodyguard were apparently hurt at the time of the event, and a third bodyguard is said to have escaped with the house's cash and jewels. Local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid said that Nabizada was killed on the first floor of her house, which she used as her office. The police also stated that an investigation into the killing was ongoing but they did not provide any information on the potential motives. The police disclosed that she and her guard were shot at about 3 am.&nbsp;

With rising cases of misconduct against MPs, Labour MP Luke Pollar commented that Parliament is "not a safe place to work with the seemingly endless list of allegations of sexual misconduct by MPs."

Chris Pincher, who is accused of groping two men in a London private members' club, resigned last week after reports of his behaviour came to light.

Boris Johnson previously promoted the MP to deputy chief whip in charge of the welfare of colleagues in February despite knowing about the allegations against Pincher.&nbsp;

After continual pressure, Johnson's spokesperson admitted on Monday that he was aware of general speculation.&nbsp;

"He had known of concerns about Pincher that were "either resolved or did not proceed to a formal complaint," No 10 finally conceded.

The Guardian also quoted a BBC report which claimed that the prime minister was made aware of the fact that Pincher was being investigated for inappropriate behaviour at the Foreign Office as a minister in 2019-20 after the complaint was filed.

When a Government spokesperson was asked about allegations against Pincher when he was at the Foreign Office, he did not deny it.

"There are robust procedures in place for any members of staff to raise allegations of misconduct. It is longstanding policy not to comment on any matters involving individual cases," The Guardian quoted the spokesperson.

Apart from the Carlton club incident involving Pincher, there were five previous sexual misconduct scandals involving Tory MPs in this Parliament, resulting in pressure upon the Prime Minister to clean up his party's culture.

The Tory MPs involved in such scandals include Neil Parish, who is accused of watching porn in the Commons; Imran Ahmad Khan, convicted of sexual assault against a child; and David Warburton, still being investigated by Parliament's watchdog for three allegations of sexual misconduct towards women.

The crimes were committed between 2013 and 2015 with a 27-year-old man and a 17-year-old being the survivors of sexual assault, as per the charges.

"Police will allege in court that the man indecently assaulted a 17-year-old boy at Meroo Meadow in February 2013, and sexually abused a 27-year-old man in Sydney in September 2015," said New South Wale Police on their website.

The statement further said that Ward had been granted conditional bail and that he was due to appear in court on May 18, 2022.

Ward has denied the allegations.

"I will be instructing my lawyers to seek to bring this matter before the courts as quickly as possible and I look forward to demonstrating my innocence there," he said on Tuesday in a statement as quoted by theh Independent.

“While others have already attempted to prosecute my case in the media rather than the courts, out of respect for our system of justice I will not be doing the same."

“Accordingly, I will be making no further comment at this time.”

The two former detainees who have issued the warning by signing a letter include Thanush Selvarasa and Elahe Zivardar.

Thanush is a Tamil refugee who was held in Manus Island detention centre for nearly 7 years before. He now works as a campaigner for asylum seekers’ rights. Elahe, who happens to be an Iranian artist and refugee was held in the Nauru detention centre for 6 years.

It is said that if this bill is passed, it will lower down protection for refugees.&nbsp;

UNHCR has denounced the plans and warned that if the bill becomes law it will undermine the 1951 refugee convention. In a statement, the organisation said, "UNHCR calls upon the UK to guarantee the right to seek and enjoy asylum for all persons under its jurisdiction, including those who enter, or seek to enter, irregularly, and not merely those who have already been recognised as refugees outside of the UK and who arrive through resettlement or other legal pathways".

It further said that the attempts to relieve pressure on the UK asylum system are "neither effective nor sustainable" ways to address the system’s current weaknesses.

Britain's interior minister on Sunday said MPs' security would be beefed up, after a lawmaker was stabbed to death as he held a public meeting with constituents, in the second such attack in five years.

Veteran Conservative MP David Amess, 69, was talking with voters at a church in the small town of Leigh-on-Sea, east of London, when he was killed on Friday.

The attack has spread fear among MPs, coming just over five years after the similar killing of Labour MP Jo Cox in the febrile run-up to the Brexit referendum.

Police have said they are investigating "a potential motivation linked to Islamist extremism". The investigation is being led by Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has ordered a review of security measures for lawmakers and told Sky News that "we need to close any gaps" in security provision for MPs, whose work includes regular meetings with constituents, called "surgeries".

She said that police and parliamentary authorities were implementing "immediate changes and measures that are actively being put in place, and discussed with MPs".

This includes MPs sharing information on their whereabouts with police. Close protection at surgeries was also "in consideration right now", she added.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that uniformed police were guarding some surgeries following the attack, which prompted calls from some MPs for a pause in face-to-face meetings.

Police said late on Saturday that detectives had until Friday to question the suspected attacker after he was detained under the Terrorism Act, which allowed them to extend his detention.&nbsp;

He has not been charged.

British media, citing unnamed official sources, identified the suspect as Ali Harbi Ali.&nbsp;

Reports said he was a British national of Somali descent who had been referred to Prevent, the UK's official counter-terrorist scheme for those thought to be at risk of radicalisation.

Ali is believed not have spent long on the programme, which is voluntary, and was never formally a "subject of interest" to MI5, the domestic security agency, said the BBC.

The Prevent programme is currently under independent review.

"We want to ensure it (the Prevent programme) is fit for purpose, robust, doing the right thing, but importantly, learning lessons," Patel told Sky News.

'Fast-paced investigation'&nbsp;

Detectives said they have been carrying out searches at three addresses in the London area in a "fast-paced investigation".

Police and security services believe the suspected attacker acted alone and was "self-radicalised", The Sunday Times reported, while adding he may have been inspired by Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda-linked Islamists in Somalia.

Ali's father, named as Harbi Ali Kullane and said to be a former adviser to the prime minister of Somalia, confirmed to The Sunday Times that his son was in custody, adding: "I'm feeling very traumatised."&nbsp;

A Canadian MP has stepped down from some of his duties and said he is seeking 'assistance' after being caught on camera urinating during a video conference in Parliament, a month after appearing naked in another virtual session.&nbsp;

"Last night, while attending House of Commons proceedings virtually, in a non-public setting, I urinated without realising I was on camera," MP William Amos wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday night. &nbsp;

"I am deeply embarrassed by my actions and the distress they may have caused anybody who witnessed them," he added. "While accidental and not visible to the public, this was completely unacceptable, and I apologise unreservedly." &nbsp;

In April, the MP was caught standing naked between the flags of Canada and Quebec, his private parts hidden by his phone, while connected by video to a Question Time session in Parliament. &nbsp;

Amos, a member of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party, also claimed that was an accident.&nbsp;

In the most recent episode, he was caught urinating into a coffee cup, the Conservative opposition said in a statement. &nbsp;

"This is the second time Mr Amos has been caught exposing himself to his colleagues in the House, and the House of Commons, virtual or otherwise, must be free of this type of unacceptable behaviour," said Conservative MP Karen Vecchio. &nbsp;

"This is a pattern of behavior from Mr Amos and it's now clear that Trudeau's Liberals failed in their duty to ensure a safe work environment following the first incident," she hammered in a statement. &nbsp;
