The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Delhi and adjoining areas on Sunday evening with the possibility of maximum temperatures settling at 27 degree Celsius and 37 degree Celsius respectively.

According to SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting), the air quality in the city is in the moderate category with an index value of 101.

The heavy downpour also caused water-logging and traffic snarls in several parts of the city.

Skymet in a tweet said, "Light to moderate spell of rain and thundershowers will occur at many places over North Delhi, Central Delhi, parts of South Delhi and North West Delhi during the next 2-3 hours."

Besides Delhi, IMD has also predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe.

It has also predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim.

The weather body has also advised fisherman not to venture out in sea due to rough sea conditions over south Bay of Bengal and southwest and central Arabian Sea.&nbsp;

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday said that 27 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides in the state. Torrential monsoon rains swept away homes and triggered <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/rains-wreck-havoc-across-south-asia-236128">landslides across South Asia</a>, affecting millions of people and claiming at least 180 lives, officials said Tuesday.

The monsoon is crucial for irrigation and groundwater supplies in the impoverished region -- home to a fifth of the world's population -- and brings relief after the unforgiving summers.

But the downpours -- which stretch from June to September -- can turn deadly and have wreaked havoc again this year across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, with people, dwellings and boats in remote low-lying areas washed away.

At least five children drowned in Bangladesh Monday, taking the toll in the country to 34, including 18 hit by lightning and seven who drowned after their boat capsized in choppy waters in the Bay of Bengal.

Hundreds of thousands have been marooned by floodwater in the country's north, with one of the major Himalayan rivers, the Brahmaputra, over a metre (40 inches) above the "danger level", officials said.

In Nepal, at least 67 people have died although floodwaters have started receding. Images showed rescuers using inflatable dinghies to evacuate families trapped in flooded houses.

Health experts have warned of possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases and called for international help.

Nearly 50 people have been killed in India, with two eastern states -- Assam and Bihar, which borders Nepal -- bearing the brunt of the deluge.

Authorities in Assam declared a red alert Monday as the flood situation turned critical, with villages cut off by surging waters and a major highway submerged.&nbsp;

So far 11 people have died in the state and some 83,000 people displaced by flooding.

The United Nations said Monday it "stands ready to work with the authorities in the affected countries as they respond to the humanitarian needs resulting from this ongoing monsoon season".

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review&nbsp;meeting over the&nbsp;current flood situation in different parts of the country and preparedness of the states and Central ministries concerned to deal with the situation.

After the meeting, Shah directed the senior officers to take every possible measure to deal with the situation arising out of South-West Monsoon in the country and to extend all necessary assistance to the flood-affected states.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of bereaved in Malad wall collapse tragedy.

The heavy downpour caused water logging at various places in Mumbai and the surrounding metropolitan area. BMC has received 45 complaints of waterlogging.

BMC is giving regular updates about waterlogged places where water has been pumped out Indian Navy teams have been deployed in Mumbai to help rain hit Mumbaikars.

"Indian Navy deploys various teams to provide relief to rain hit and stranded Mumbaikars in Kurla area," Spokesperson Navy tweeted.

India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy in Mumbai and suburban parts in next 48 hours.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Mumbai and suburban parts in next 48 hours, a similar situation expected for Vidarbha and Marathwada. Advice tourists to not visit mountain areas since heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Maharashtra," Met Department said.

"Intermittent heavy showers expected in Mumbai today. Extremely heavy rainfall, over 200 mm recorded at many places in city; more towards suburbs in last 24 hrs," IMD said.

Rains and waterlogging have brought the state to its knees as the movement of traffic slowed down on all the major roads in the city. Cars and vehicles were stuck on waterlogged roads at various places.

Mumbai Police is constantly updating residents about waterlogging roads and asking them to take alternative routes. Traffic on various roads has been diverted.

Amidst the heavy rain, Thane Municipal Transport had arranged extra buses to ferry passengers up to Mulund check post. The arrangement has been directed by Thane Municipal commissioner after local services were stopped between Kurla and Thane.

The Chief Minister said that the government is prepared to deal with the situation.

"High tide is expected at 12 noon, we will monitor the situation. Last night Mumbai police received 1600-1700 tweets from people, they received immediate help. BMC Disaster Management worked entire night. Heavy rainfall is expected in next two&nbsp;days. We are prepared for it," Fadnavis said.

Of the 30 districts, Jajpur received the highest rainfall of 253.7 mm in June, whereas Gajapati district received the lowest of 59.8 mm, an official at the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said.

While four districts of Jajpur, Koraput, Dhenkanal and Nawarangpur recorded normal rainfall last month, rainfall in 18 districts remained deficit between 19 per cent and 39 per cent, the official said.

Rainfall in as many as six districts - Balangir, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Sundargarh - remained severe deficit between 39 per cent and 59 per cent during June.

Two districts of Rayagada and Gajapati received scanty rainfall in June, the official said.

Going by blocks, 19 blocks have received surplus rainfall and 73 blocks received normal rainfall in June.

While 90 blocks received deficit rainfall, 85 blocks received severe deficit rainfall and 47 blocks received scanty rainfall in June, he said.&nbsp;
