The event was being held a day after Inter Miami announced that Messi signed a contract that will keep him with the club through 2025. Messi will be available to make his debut on Friday in a Leagues Cup fixture against Mexico's Cruz Azul.

Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets has signed a contract with Inter Miami that will see him reunited with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi through the 2025 season, the Major League Soccer club said Sunday. Completion of the deal comes a day after Messi, who sparked Argentina to a World Cup title last year in Qatar, signed his own contract with the club.

Inter had announced last month that they were acquiring Busquets, who will be reunited with his former Barcelona teammate Messi. The one-time World Cup champion, nine-time La Liga winner and former Barca captain will occupy a Designated Player slot and is expected to join the team "in the coming days," Inter said.

"I am excited to welcome Sergio Busquets to Inter Miami," managing owner Jorge Mas said in a statement.

"Since day one we have set out to bring the world's best players to Inter Miami. Sergio's repertoire speaks for itself."

<h2>Signing of a champion</h2>

Busquets, 34, said in May that he would leave Barcelona this year at the end of his contract. He made 134 appearances for Spain before announcing his retirement from the team in December. Busquets has been a central part of Barcelona's successes in the past 15 years, including three Champions League triumphs. Busquets played as pivot behind Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez in an iconic midfield trio, and the three of them also won the World Cup with Spain in 2010.

Messi will take part in a glitzy presentation at the club's stadium on Sunday which has been branded "The Unveil" with the club promising musical entertainment for the expected capacity 18,000 crowd. The event will be broadcast on Apple TV and parts of it are sure to be syndicated to other television networks.

Tuesday is earmarked to be Messi's first full training session with his new teammates but if he thought that would simply be a case of shaking hands and getting back on the field, he may be in for a surprise.

While the World Cup winner is used to practising behind closed doors, this session will be open -- for part of the session -- to the media with television cameras trained on the 36-year-old's every move. When announcing his intention to join Miami last month, Messi gave several reasons why he had turned down other options but stated the hope for a calmer life was one of them. "I'm also at a point where I want to get out of the spotlight a bit, to think more about my family," he said.

On top of all those club commitments, the shy, introverted Messi is certain to be encouraged to give time for MLS's broadcast partner, Apple TV, who are hoping that the Argentine will help boost subscriptions to their 'MLS Season Pass' product.

Messi arrived in Miami on Tuesday, flying in on a private jet with his family and sources said that he had visited the team's training facility early on Wednesday. Inter Miami's media sessions have tended to attract around a dozen reporters but there were at least five-times that amount on Wednesday.

Beckham also turned out for the training session, kicking a ball around while wearing a T-shirt, sunglasses and sneakers. With many South American media outlets having Miami-based correspondents, Miami players are already facing a very different level of interest. "It's a big change, I don't know what to say, but I know it's a big change not only for the club, but also for the city. It's very important for everyone and we have to enjoy it," said Venezuelan striker Josef Martinez.

Goalkeeper Drake Callender said the team would have to learn to cope with the newfound attention. "We are all professionals...we are all focused on the weekend (game) but with all of this, it's something that is a reality for us and the best thing we can do is just focus on our training. "We have a lot of younger kids or players in the group and for them, with media around, security around, it may be a little different," he said.

"For us, Messi coming means everything, wherever he goes there is always incredible happiness," he said, while standing by a banner declaring 'We are waiting for you Messias".

The club's Austrian coach Gerhard Struber said that he regretted not immediately taking Vanzeir off the field following the incident.

Vanzeir has played for his country once and moved to the Red Bulls in February from the Belgian league.

Team's managing owner Jorge Mas was fined US$250,000. The chief operating officer of Inter Miami, Paul McDonough, who was also the Sports Director at the time, has been suspended till the end of the season.&nbsp;

The MLS pointed out that the players' contracts remain in force and would not be affected.

"The integrity of our rules is sacrosanct, and it is a fundamental principle of our league that our clubs are responsible for adhering to all league regulations," said MLS commissioner Don Garber.&nbsp;

"Our rules will not be compromised. These sanctions reflect the severity of Inter Miami's violations, should encourage complete cooperation by all parties in future investigations, and will serve as a deterrent for clubs from violating roster rules."

While Mas was among those cleared of wrongdoing, he was fined after the MLS decreed he was responsible for making sure the club had sufficient controls in place to comply with the league's rules.

"We have worked closely with MLS to address these issues and have made significant changes in our management structure," said Mas in a statement.

Miami and Orlando players then dropped to one knee just after the opening whistle, the gesture of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter cause that has rippled across the globe in the tide of revulsion which followed Floyd's death.
