"I felt like I lost my future when I heard the news on February 1. I feel so much in pain and I don't want to get to forget that pain ever," said a 23-year-old woman at a parlour in Yangon, who did not want to be identified.&nbsp;

She said she was getting the message 'Freedom from Fear' written on her body so she would never forget that pain and to show younger generations 'how we got rid of this system'.&nbsp;

Many tattoo artists inked people for free in a show of solidarity in the days after the coup in early February. After reports that some of them were arrested, many parlours are trying to be more discreet even though they continue to offer steep discounts.&nbsp;

"They threatened us with the weapons. But our revolution won't win if we have fear," said the customer in Yangon. "So, we must get rid of this kind of fear to prevail in our revolution."&nbsp;

The leaders of the United States and some of its allies vowed on Friday to work together to restore democracy in Myanmar.&nbsp;

"Six men were shot dead while eight people were wounded -- with one man in a critical condition," a rescue worker was quoted saying by news agency AFP.

Another witness clarified that five of these deceased protestors were shot in the head by the Myanmar military.&nbsp;

In Bago, a city northeast of Yangon, Zaw Zaw Aung, 33, who is deaf, was shot in the head, his father Myint Lwin told AFP. "As a father, I am deeply sad for his death," he said.

While the military is increasing it presence and fear in the country, diplomatic pressure is mounting from international organisations and governments who have openly condemned the crackdown.

Now, after months of takeover and detainment of Suu Kyi, the military held a rare news conference on Thursday in which they accused the popular leader of corruption.

"We have learnt Daw Aung San Suu Kyi herself took this $600,000 and seven visses (11.2 kilograms) of gold. The anti-corruption commission is investigating," the military's spokesman Zaw Min Tun told reporters in the capital Naypyidaw.

There was no immediate comment from Sri Lanka's foreign ministry. The two countries have close religious ties, both following the same branch of Buddhism.

Dozens of Sri Lankan activists meanwhile staged a demonstration outside the Myanmar embassy in Colombo Wednesday denouncing the military coup, in a protest planned before the announcement of the invitation.

"No to the terrorist junta!," said a banner carried by them. "Prosecute the junta for crimes against humanity and genocide."

Myanmar's state television on Saturday announced that the envoy had been fired for betraying the nation.&nbsp;

"(He) didn't follow the order and direction by the state and betrayed the country," as per the MRTV broadcast.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, on Saturday, police continued their crackdown on pro-democracy protesters by carrying out mass arrests and firing rubber bullets on peaceful demonstrators.&nbsp;

In the city of Yangon, police used rubber bullets against the protesters who were gathered in Myaynigone junction.&nbsp;

Demonstrators scattered into residential areas and used makeshift barricades made out of stacked tables and trash cans to negate the police action, news agency AFP reported.&nbsp;

Several people wore hard hats and gas masks to protect themselves from violence.

Rarely envoys in the United Nations speak against the regime they are representing, but Myanmar's ambassador also flashed the three-finger salute that recently has become a symbol of freedom and democracy.&nbsp;

"We need... the strongest possible action from the international community to immediately end the military coup, to stop oppressing the innocent people, to return the state power to the people, and to restore the democracy," Kyaw Moe Tun said.&nbsp;

He also urged all UN member nations to issue statements denouncing the coup during the special meeting on Myanmar. &nbsp;

"We will continue to fight for a government, which is, of the people by the people, for the people," the ambassador said.

The impassioned plea by the envoy was warmly received by the member countries as there was loud applause in the chamber post the speech.&nbsp;

The Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has cancelled her planned trip to Myanmar amid the military coup and detainment of several senior leaders of the ruling country, which has resulted in constant, violent protests.

This decision was taken after Marsudi had "let open an option to visit Naypyitaw to work on a solution at the regional level". However, looking at the ongoing political tensions in the country, the officials decided to cancel her visit altogether.

When protesters started yelling at the police to leave, police opened fire with rubber bullets and slingshot balls, dispersing the alarmed protesters and leaving at least six injured.

Since the nationwide protests started two weeks ago, authorities in some cities have deployed tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets against demonstrators.

There have been isolated incidents of live rounds in the capital Naypyidaw.

A young woman protester died on Friday after being shot in the head last week as police dispersed a crowd in the capital, Naypyitaw, the first death among anti-coup demonstrators.

The army says one policeman died of injuries sustained in a protest.

On Saturday, young people in the main city of Yangon carried a wreath and laid flowers at a memorial ceremony for the woman, Mya Thwate Thwate Khaing, while a similar ceremony took place in Naypyitaw.

The demonstrators are demanding the restoration of the elected government, the release of Suu Kyi and others and the scrapping of a 2008 constitution, drawn up under military supervision, that gives the army a major role in politics.

Insurgencies by ethnic minority forces seeking autonomy have simmered since Myanmar's independence from Britain in 1948, and the army has long proclaimed itself the only institution capable of preserving national unity.

Suu Kyi, 75, like the top generals, is a member of the majority Burman community.

Her government promoted a peace process with insurgent groups but she faced a storm of international criticism over the plight of the Muslim Rohingya minority after more than 700,000 fled a deadly 2017 army crackdown.

Insurgent groups that have signed a national ceasefire made clear their opposition to army rule, saying in a statement they would aim to "coordinate with local and foreign forces" and the international community to "eliminate dictatorship".

The army seized back power after alleging fraud in November 8 election that Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy swept, detaining her and others. The electoral commission had dismissed the fraud complaints.

The protests have so far been more peaceful than the bloodily suppressed demonstrations during nearly 50 years of direct military rule up to 2011.

Suu Kyi faces a charge of violating a Natural Disaster Management Law as well as illegally importing six walkie-talkie radios. Her next court appearance is on March 1.

Meanwhile, the United States has asked the Myanmar military to refrain from violence against "peaceful protesters," with the State Department asking the military regime to "reverse its actions". &nbsp;
