He further denied the reports that Ottawa&nbsp;had expelled six Indian diplomats, adding that New Delhi acted first. "We have withdrawn our diplomats before Canada took any step," Jaiswal said. "We reject false implications against our diplomats. Canada has not shared any evidence with us."

The MEA spokesperson further stressed that till date, 26 extradition requests have been made by India to Canada for wanted criminals, however, no action has been taken.&nbsp;

"We have asked Canada and given them identities of people of Lawrence Bishnoi Gang. RCMP blaming us is a contradiction," he said.&nbsp;

Highlighting the attack on Canadian journalists of Indian origin, Randhir Jaiswal said that these are clear examples of "intimidations", adding that shifting the blame to India does not work.&nbsp;

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday (Mar 30) said that the embassy in Cambodia promptly responded to the complaints from Indian nationals, who were "lured with employment opportunities" and forced to take up illegal cyber work. The embassy repatriated about 250 Indians, out of which 75 were in the past three months.

MEA dismisses Canada's election interference accusations, says it's meddling in India's internal affairs

"The payment mechanism is in its last phase of production and will go live by September, 2023 with the iconic Eiffel Tower, Paris as the first merchant in France to accept UPI," it read.&nbsp;

In line with the commitment to foster a thriving digital ecosystem and promote collaboration between India and France, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and France's Lyra Collect recently signed an agreement to implement UPI in France and Europe. This move is aimed to empower citizens and ensure their active participation in the digital age, MEA said.&nbsp;

Kwatra noted that it is uncommon for a PM to personally welcome another PM, highlighting the exceptional warmth and friendship displayed between the leaders when France PM welcomed prime minister Modi at the airport.&nbsp;

Radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik—an Indian fugitive—will reportedly return to Malaysia after completing his programmes in Oman.

Malaysian-based newspaper New Strait Times quoting Naik’s lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader reported that Zakir still had programmes to attend in the Middle Eastern country.

According to reports, Naik was in Muscat to deliver religious talks.

Naik, who now resides in Malaysia, was charged with money laundering and terrorism charges, and creating religious tension through his speeches and lectures in India.

In 2016, Naik fled India and moved to Malaysia and reportedly secured permanent residency there. The Indian government declared his Islamic Research Foundation unlawful in 2022.

In 2019, he was also banned from delivering public speeches in Malaysia. Besides India, his Peace TV network is also banned in Bangladesh, Canada, Sri Lanka and the UK.

During a regular media interaction on Thursday, India’s External Ministry Affairs said that it will take all the required steps to bring the radical preacher back to India and have him face justice.&nbsp;

Elaborating on this, Dr Somanath said, "Mexico does not have a big space ecosystem and they need our help. Once we develop our private space ecosystem here, we can explore markets there and build for them. Not just ISRO, but India's private firms can operate and carry out business in foreign nations with whom space sector collaboration has been unexplored".&nbsp;

He added that the Mexican government would work with India's foreign ministry and get Indian banks to lend money, to enable Indian private firms to build a satellite and supply it to Mexico.&nbsp;

Speaking about the scope for India to carry out space sector business activities, Dr Somanath said that India would like to explore the markets in Latin America, Arab nations, Africa and South East Asia and collaborate with them for mutual benefit.&nbsp;

He mentioned the possibilities of Indian firms building satellites for foreign nations and also providing ground stations and relevant hardware.&nbsp;

From 2020 onwards, Indian private firms have been authorised to carry out end-to-end space activities including the building and launching of rockets and satellites, establishing ground segments etc.&nbsp;

Since then, a considerable number of firms have made progress in building and testing their own rocket engines. Private firms have also proven their capability to build rockets and launch them into the upper atmosphere and are aiming for space, while satellite companies have developed their spacecraft and launched them on Indian and foreign rockets.&nbsp;

The Indian government has decided to deploy special envoys to four countries bordering Ukraine. Bagchi said that Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia will be going to Romania, Kiren Rijiju to Slovak Republic, Hardeep Puri to Hungary, VK Singh to Poland.

This is being done to coordinate and oversee the evacuation process.

The MEA, in a statement, said, "In coming weeks, we will be undertaking the supply of wheat and the remaining medical assistance. In this regard, we are in touch with UN agencies and others to finalise the modalities for transportation. "

India has committed to providing the Afghan people with 50,000 MT of wheat, life-saving medications, and COVID vaccines.

Overland Pakistan was one of the options for delivering the supplies.

Despite the fact that Islamabad has publicly announced that it will facilitate supply flow, no transfer has yet taken place, even as New Delhi and Islamabad continue to debate the logistics of the transfer.

India on Thursday requested the Canadian authorities to ensure the safety and security of its citizens following reports that threats have been given by Khalistani groups to the Indian community in Canada after they held a 'tiranga rally' in support of farm laws. &nbsp;

After reports of Khalistani threats, MEA asks Canada to ensure Indians’ safety  

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava in a weekly briefing has said that the Government of India is trying for the extradition of Pakistan-born Canadian Tahawwur Rana, who has been arrested in Los Angeles to face murder charges in India for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which over 160 people were killed.

"We are keeping a close watch on the extradition of Tahawwur Rana. We are trying for his extradition as soon as possible. In an update, his court hearing will begin on April 22, 2021," he said.

Rana, 59, has been declared a fugitive by India, where he is facing multiple criminal charges for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack in which 166 people, including six Americans, were killed.

He was rearrested on June 10 in Los Angeles on an extradition request by India.

Rana is a childhood friend of David Coleman Headley, the Pakistani-American LeT terrorist who was involved in plotting the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Headley, 60, was made an approver in the case, and is currently serving a 35-year prison term in the US for his role in the attack.

Mumbai had come to a standstill on November 26, 2008, when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who entered the city via sea route from Pakistan carried out a series of coordinated shootings and bombings that injured over 300 and claimed the lives of 166 people in India`s financial capital.

The attacks took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, Cama Hospital, Nariman House business and residential complex, Leopold Cafe, Taj Hotel and Tower and the Oberoi-Trident Hotel.

As many as 7,139 Indian prisoners, including undertrials, are lodged in various jails around the world, the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia has the highest number of 1,599 Indian prisoners, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 898 and Nepal having 886 inmates, according to information provided by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan in Rajya Sabha.

"As per the information available with the ministry, the number of Indian prisoners in foreign jails as on December 31, 2020, is 7,139, which also includes undertrials," he said responding to a question.

He said due to strong privacy laws prevailing in many countries; the local authorities do not share information on prisoners unless the person concerned consents to the disclosure of such details.

"Even countries which share information do not generally provide detailed information about the foreign nationals imprisoned," he said.

Muraleedharan said Indian missions and posts abroad remain vigilant and closely monitor incidents of Indian nationals being put in jail for alleged violation of local laws.

"Missions and posts also maintain a local panel of lawyers where Indian community is in sizable numbers," he added.

According to the details provided by the minister, 548 Indians are languishing in jails in Malaysia and 536 are lodged in Kuwaiti prisons.

7,139 Indian prisoners lodged in foreign jails: MEA

India on Thursday slammed Pakistan for trying to link the Kulbhushan Jadhav case with another case of an Indian, who has completed his sentence but is still in jail and awaits repatriation.

After Pakistani media reports claimed that the counsel for the Indian High Commission, Shahnawaz Noon, had told the Islamabad High Court that Deputy Indian High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia wants to explain India's stance over appointment of a lawyer for death-row prisoner Jadhav, New Delhi said Noon had made the remarks without any authorisation and appears to have acted under pressure from the Pakistani establishment.

At a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "Pakistan is trying to link the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav with another prisoner's case."

Giving a background to the other case, Srivastava said in a routine consular practice, Noon was selected by the Indian High Commission to appear in the case for release and repatriation of Indian prisoner Mohammad Ismail, who has completed his sentence but continues to be in jail in Pakistan.

"However, during proceedings of the case regarding Ismail, Pakistan Attorney General raised the matter pertaining to Jadhav, though the two cases are not connected in any way," he said.

"Mr. Noon is reported to have made those statements which are not true and are in contravention of our stand in the case. He appears to have acted under pressure from the Pakistani establishment to make such statements for which he has no authorisation," Srivastava said.

Noon has misrepresented the position of the Indian High Commission, he said. 
Srivastava said Noon was clearly told by the Indian High Commission that he had no authority to represent either the government of India or Jadhav.

"Our Mission in Islamabad has written to Mr. Noon reiterating that he has no authority to represent Mr. Jadhav and has no basis to suggest that the Indian Cd'A would appear in the court," Srivastava said.

"As regards our position on Jadhav, I have clarified this on several instances in the past, Pakistan has failed to respond on core issues pertaining to the case, including provision of all documents, providing unimpeded, unhindered and unconditional consular access to Jadhav and this is required to provide the basis for an effective review and reconsideration of the case as ordered by the ICJ," he said.

In 2017, India approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Pakistan for denial of consular access to Jadhav and challenging the death sentence handed to him by a military court.

The Hague-based ICJ ruled in July 2019 that Pakistan must undertake an "effective review and reconsideration" of the conviction and sentence of Jadhav and also to grant consular access to India without further delay.

India has slammed Pakistan for adopting a "farcical" approach in denying available legal remedies to Jadhav against his death sentence in contravention of the ICJ order.

Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017.

Asked about reports that Pakistan has sent approval for the appointment of Suresh Kumar as India's new Charge d'Affaires (CDA) at its mission in Islamabad, Srivstava said the process of appointment is still ongoing.

To another question on the Azad Pattan hydro-power project on the Jhelum river in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), he said, "We have seen media reports about conclusion of agreements related to this project that you mention, this is the Azad Pattan hydropower project."

"We have consistently conveyed our strong protest to Pakistan on its attempts to bring material changes on Indian territories under its illegal and forcible occupation, including by constructing the hydro power projects like this project," Srivastava said.

India's position is consistent and clear that the entire Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and will remain integral and inalienable parts of India, he asserted.

Asked about Chinese Defence Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe's recent visit to Pakistan and the discussion on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects passing through PoK, Srivastava said he would not like to comment on the visit, but added that India's stand on the CPEC projects is clear and both countries aware of it.

"The CPEC projects violate India's sovereignty and territorial integrity and we have in the past protested and raised concerns over it with both countries," he said.
