Having lost the T20Is (0-3) earlier, the hosts needed to turn the tables around quickly, and they did that magnificently. Maheesh Theekshana, a white-ball specialist, explained how Sri Lanka plotted India’s downfall in the One Dayers.

Theekshana has played a few seasons with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League before, besides touring India for a white-ball series in recent years.

Theekshana elaborated that he had observed the&nbsp;pattern&nbsp;and noticed that the Indian players play more on good batting wickets and on grounds with smaller boundaries, and playing them at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where square boundaries are wider, would benefit the hosts, which eventually happened.

Chasing 249 in the final game on Wednesday (August 7), India, for the third time in the series, got off to a flyer, with Captain Rohit Sharma again leading from the front. Although he failed to score his third fifty in the series, he took the attack to the opposition from the word go.&nbsp;

Theekshana added that Sri Lankan batters are used to playing on such turning wickets and thus managed to survive the Indian spin attack comfortably. He also admitted that the ODI series win was a confidence booster for him and the team.&nbsp;

"Even in domestic, the wickets are like this, and our batters know how to play," Theekshana continued while praising the Sri Lankan batting unit.&nbsp;

"For me, it's a confidence booster as a team. We lost the T20 series 3-0. The whole team was disappointed, and we took it as motivation. Very happy to play the last game and win the series after 1997. It's a huge victory for us, and I am really proud to be part of the XI," the off-spinner added.

Sri Lanka will now travel to England for three Tests, starting August 21, and Team India will face Bangladesh in the two Tests of the home season, beginning in September.&nbsp;

World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka will be without star bowler against South Africa, confirms head coach Silverwood

Star Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga aggravated his Grade 3 hamstring tear and could likely remain out of contention for a place in the XI for World Cup 2023. More so he might also require surgery, ruling him out for an indefinite period. The latest reports suggest Sri Lanka might include him in the final 15 for the marquee event in the hope of him attaining fitness during the fag end of the tournament.

Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Arjuna de Silva, Sri Lanka’s medical committee head, indicated Hasaranga might not get fit in time for any game during the mega event, starting October 5.

"Medically, it seems unlikely that Wanindu will be fit," De Silva said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the report revealed the current status of bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and spinner Mahesh Theekshana. While seasoned seamer Chameera, who picked up a pictorial injury earlier, is said to be up and running in the nets, managing his workload, Maheesh Theekshana, who strained his hamstring ahead of the Asia Cup final, is in rehab.&nbsp;

However, the good news is both are expected to get fit before Sri Lanka’s first World Cup game against South Africa on Saturday, October 7.

De Silva also provided some updates on the two other seamers – Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Theekshana, who missed Asia Cup 2023, revealing both are fully fit and raring to go.

With the deadline date for all teams to name their final 15 being September 28, Sri Lanka has a few days to list the squad.&nbsp;

Sri Lanka’s best bowler, Wanindu Hasaranga, took the World Cup Qualifiers 2023 in Zimbabwe by storm, picking up 22 wickets from seven games at 12.91. He also picked up three six-wicket hauls, dismantling the opposition at will. His exploits were essential in helping Sri Lanka win the tournament and seal a World Cup berth.

Meanwhile, Hasaranga was also expected to remain fit and available for the Asia Cup, but a last-moment injury ruled him out of the competition.

Alongside him, Sri Lanka missed some of their first-team bowlers but still managed to reach the finals, which they lost to India in a one-sided contest by ten wickets.&nbsp;

Sri Lanka will face hosts India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 2.

Theekshana, an off-spinner with a lethal carrom ball, returned figures of 4-37 as the hosts bowled out South Africa for 125 in 30 overs while chasing a target of 204 in the third ODI in Colombo.

The 21-year-old Theekshana made an instant impact with a wicket on his first delivery in international cricket as he sent opener Janneman Malan trudging back for 18.

Rain then briefly stopped play.

He then cut short wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen's innings on 22 to further dent the Proteas' chase.

Andile Phehlukwayo, who made 17, and George Linde, who scored 18, put up some resistance with a partnership of 36 for the seventh wicket.

Theekshana combined with leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who took two wickets to polish off the tail with 20 overs remaining in the innings.

Pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera took two early wickets including Reeza Hendricks, for one, and Rassie van der Dussen, for five, to rattle the South African top-order.

He also made a useful 29 in Sri Lanka's 203 for nine to be named man of the match.

Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka top-scored with 47 while Keshav Maharaj claimed three wickets.

Maharaj struck first, getting Avishka Fernando lbw for 10, and returned figures of 3-38 with his left-arm spin. Fellow spinners Linde and Tabraiz Shamsi took two wickets each.

South Africa successfully reviewed the openers' wickets in their favour after Fernando and Dinesh Chandimal, out lbw for nine off left-arm orthodox Linde, were given not out by the on-field umpires.

Spinners kept striking as Aiden Markram sent back Dhananjaya de Silva for 31 and Maharaj got two, including Shanaka and Hasaranga, as Sri Lanka slipped to 121-6.

Asalanka survived a reprieve on 36 when he was caught at mid-wicket off Linde but the delivery was adjudged a no ball with more fielders outside the inner circle than allowed.

Shamsi, a left-arm wrist spinner, finally got Asalanka caught behind to deny the left-hand batsman a half-century.

"Today our plans weren't up to scratch, but lots of positives to take," said Maharaj, who took over as ODI captain from the injured Temba Bavuma from the second match.

"We've got a few of our senior players back for the T20Is so hopefully that'll give us the boost we need."

The two sides will now play three Twenty20 internationals starting Friday at the same venue.
