The report said that the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) arrested Zamora, the director of AOG Technics Ltd, at his home address on the outskirts of London. However, the agency did not identify Zamora as the individual arrested.&nbsp;

The report stated that SFO is working alongside the Civil Aviation Authority on the investigation into an aircraft parts supplier that serviced several major airlines.&nbsp;

The 35-year-old is the founder of AOG Technics, which is a London-based company. It allegedly supplied fake parts that were used in at least 126 commercial aircraft engines around the world. The paperwork was apparently forged.&nbsp;

The company has supplied parts for the world's best-selling passenger aircraft engine (CFM56) and most-used cargo aircraft engine (CF6) since 2015.&nbsp;

In a statement, the SFO said that the parts were mostly sold to overseas companies that install airline parts, and to UK airlines, maintenance providers and parts suppliers.&nbsp;

<h2>'Very serious allegations of fraud'&nbsp;</h2>

Some planes have been grounded after aviation authorities in the UK, Europe and the United States issued alerts to businesses who may have bought or installed AOG's parts.&nbsp;

"This investigation deals with very serious allegations of fraud involving the supply of aircraft parts, the consequences of which are potentially far-reaching," said Nick Ephgrave, director of the SFO.&nbsp;

"The SFO is best placed to take this investigation forward vigorously and we are determined to establish the facts as swiftly as possible," he added.&nbsp;

CFM56 engines are used on the previous generation of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

Carriers affected include Ryanair, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Virgin Australia Airlines.&nbsp;

A 42-year-old woman has been killed and two others, including a teenager, have been injured in a shooting in east London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday (Dec 5) said the Metropolitan Police. The police have since launched a murder investigation.&nbsp;

The incident took place in Vine Close, a small housing development in the residential part of Hackney in east London. The police were called to the area at 6:28 pm (local time) after reports of a shooting.&nbsp;

Additionally, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were taken to hospital. Their condition was not immediately known. The police have since cordoned off the area.&nbsp;

Detective Superintendent Vicky Tunstall described the incident as “shocking” and said her thoughts were with all those affected. “This shocking incident has resulted in the death of a young woman and my thoughts are with her family at this incredibly difficult time,” said Tunstall.&nbsp;

She added, “My thoughts are also with the two people who have been taken to hospital.” The law enforcement official also said that they are in the early stages of the investigation and will work to establish what happened.

“Officers will remain at the scene overnight and will be in the area over the coming days,” said Tunstall.&nbsp;

Uber's initiative comes as an attempt to bring London's black cabs into its service, a move already seen in other cities like Paris, New York, and Rome. Uber contends that both passengers and taxi drivers can benefit from collaboration. 

This effort marks a notable shift in relations, especially given the history of disputes, with a peak in 2014 when cab drivers protested against Uber by blocking streets. The current offer, if accepted by a good number of London's black cab drivers, could represent a significant thaw in their relationship, bringing about a new era of collaboration. 

While Uber is extending an olive branch, the LTDA, representing the majority of black cab drivers, remains sceptical, asserting that there is no demand from its members for such a partnership. 

Reuters cited Steve McNamara, the general secretary of LTDA, who expressed the association's disinterest, emphasising a reluctance to tarnish the reputation of London's iconic black cab trade by aligning with Uber and its perceived shortcomings.

Uber strikes deal with London drivers to rope in iconic black cabs on its platform

The world’s first transatlantic powered by 100 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) took off on Tuesday (Nov 28) from London and is currently en route to New York. The flight operated by Virgin Atlantic, dubbed Flight100, marked the first step in a potential low-carbon option as the world continues to grapple with the impact of climate change and is looking for ways in which it can lower the release of Earth-warming gases.&nbsp;

The large passenger powered by only alternative fuels operated by a Virgin Boeing 787 and powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines plans to show that SAF is a safe replacement for fossil-derived jet fuel compatible with today’s engines, airframes and fuel infrastructure.

The flight took off from London’s Heathrow Airport at 1149 GMT and is scheduled to arrive at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 1940 GMT.

The maiden flight also comes days ahead of the beginning of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/uae-using-cop28-summit-platform-to-strike-deals-with-oil-companies-report-663564">COP28 climate talks</a> in Dubai which are expected to&nbsp;focus on the future role of fossil fuels, and whether countries should commit to phasing out the use of carbon emitting&nbsp;coal, oil and gas.

<h2>What is SAF?</h2>

The so-called SAF is typically made from renewable biomass and waste resources but is said to have the potential to deliver the performance of petroleum-based jet fuel but with a fraction of its carbon footprint. SAF can be made from a variety of sources, including crops and household waste.&nbsp;

The SAF for Flight100 is made from a “unique duel blend” which includes 88 per cent of HEFA and 12 per cent of SAK, the former is said to be made from waste fats, while the latter is rest from the wastes of corn production in the United States, said Virgin Atlantic.&nbsp;

The fuel used by Flight100 also includes a small amount of synthetic aromatic kerosene made from waste corn, said the company. While the SAF is not unheard of since it is used in jet engines as part of a blend with traditional kerosene, this is the first time that a flight will only run on this type of fuel.&nbsp;

The one-of-a-kind flight is not carrying any paying passengers or cargo but includes passengers like Virgin Atlantic’s billionaire founder Richard Branson, its chief executive Shai Weiss, and United Kingdom’s Transport Minister Mark Harper.&nbsp;

“The world will always assume something can’t be done, until you do it. The spirit of innovation is getting out there and trying to prove that we can do things better for everyone’s benefit,” said Branson, in a statement ahead of the take-off.&nbsp;

Boeing 787 has been filled with 50 tonnes of SAF and will become the first time a commercial airline has flown long haul on 100 per cent “green fuel”. The Flight100’s departure follows the Gulfstream G600 business jet’s successful transatlantic crossing using the same fuel last week.

The milestone also comes after successful ground tests and analyses conducted as well as following the approval by the UK regulator the Civil Aviation Authority earlier this month.&nbsp;

The Virgin Atlantic-led, partly government funded, project involves a number of major companies including Rolls-Royce, Boeing and energy giant BP.

The consortium also includes Imperial College London, the University of Sheffield, ICF, and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI). Researchers from Imperial and Sheffield will be leading the scientific work to assess the climate effects of the Flight100.

<h2>How much difference does SAF make?</h2>

As countries across the world have sought to decarbonise in the upcoming decade the aviation industry is relying on SAF as the most effective tool available to help bring its net emissions down to zero.&nbsp;

The aviation industry is arguably one of the most difficult to decarbonise and accounts for around three per cent of emissions which contribute to human-induced climate change as a result of carbon dioxide and non-carbon dioxide emissions.&nbsp;

The use of SAF is not going to stop planes from emitting carbon, but the industry says the “lifecycle emissions” of these fuels can be up to 70 per cent lower compared to fossil-based jet fuel over its lifecycle.&nbsp;

But while SAF is key to reducing those emissions it comes at a cost which is about three to five times higher than regular jet fuel right now and accounts for less than 0.1 per cent of total global jet fuel in use today.&nbsp;

The planes releasing carbon dioxide also release particulate matter (PM) which causes contrails which are said to contribute significantly to climate change since they trap heat causing a greenhouse effect – particularly those that persist at night.&nbsp;

Therefore, researchers believe that we can reduce the aviation industry’s contribution to global warming by taking steps like using SAF altering flight altitude and flying during the daytime.&nbsp;

Researchers who are leading the scientific work, ahead of the take-off on Tuesday, measured particulate matter (PM) emitted by a smaller-scale aircraft engine and found that SAF reduces the emissions of PM.&nbsp;

As per the Imperial College in London the researchers will also reportedly analyse the effect of using SAF after the flight with on-board flight data, weather data and satellite imagery to estimate the amount of particulate matter released and track any contrails formed by the flight.

Last month, the head of the International Airlines Group (IAG) said the risk of the aviation industry not meeting the European Union mandate for SAF availability in 2025 is higher than 90 per cent.&nbsp;

The recent truce marked the first pause in fighting giving some respite in the constant bombardment and fighting in the Palestinian enclave, but protesters said that was not enough.

“We need full support for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” 64-year-old protester Kate Hudson told Reuters at the rally which began from Park Lane and finished outside the Houses of Parliament.

She added, “It’s very welcome that there is a pause...But this problem needs to be resolved and resolved so that the Palestinians finally have the political settlement that countless U.N. resolutions have enshrined.”

The police were also seen distributing leaflets which sought to clarify what would be deemed a criminal offence and warned demonstrators against breaking the law after facing pressure from senior government officials to take action over alleged displays of antisemitism at the protests.&nbsp;

He shared a graphic, which allegedly was created by someone else, showing parrots in different colours placed above pictures of children of different races.

According to the local media reports, the text superimposed on top of the parrots read, “Why do we cherish the variety of colour in every species… but our own?”

Under which someone's comment read, “Because I have never had a bike stolen out of my front yard by a parrot”.

The 62-year-old had denied one count of sending by public communication grossly offensive racist messages. However, he was found guilty after a trial at City of London Magistrates’ Court on Monday (Nov 6).

Chadwell, who had retired from the Metropolitan Police Service in Nov 2015, during the trial said, “The reason I’ve come here today is because I don’t believe that joke is racist.”

“The reason I’ve sent the joke is because what’s written underneath is silly, it’s a riposte, someone has written something funny underneath,” he was quoted as saying by PA news agency.

“Whilst agreeing with the imagery in the first part, what’s written underneath is a piece of silliness that’s been said about it," he added.

“It was sent in a group which had previously, by the defendant’s own admission, circulated racist jokes."

“I use the word ‘jokes’ but I will come back to that word. Jokes can be grossly offensive and can amount to a criminal offence and therefore I do not trivialise by using the word joke."

“Clearly his friends thought this was funny.”

"The absolute clear implication of the post is that black people steal”, the judge was quoted as saying. He added, “It’s a clearly racist generalisation and caricature of ethnic people. I have no doubt in my mind that it’s grossly offensive.”

Truss said that she was "deeply disturbed" to learn that the British government intended to welcome representatives of China who have in the past abused technology for its own gains and have devalued freedom and democracy.

Expressing her disappointment, she took to her official X account and said, "China should not be invited to the UK's AI Summit at Bletchley Park. We should be working with our allies, not those seeking to subvert freedom and democracy. I have written to the Prime Minister requesting that the invitation be rescinded."

She, in the letter, hit out at the Chinese state which she said had used technology to "aid its oppression of millions and attack on freedom and democracy”. &nbsp;

“The regime in Beijing has a fundamentally different attitude to the West about AI, seeing it as a means of state control and a tool for national security,” she warned in the letter shared on X.

She further in the letter stated that the above-mentioned reasons were why the deputy prime minister of the UK in 2020 when he was serving as digital secretary, had removed all Huawei equipment from the UK's 5G networks.

As per news agency AFP, the blaze broke out on the third floor of a car park at Terminal 2 of the airport as firefighters struggled to bring the fire under control.

"Our priority remains supporting the emergency services and the safety of our passengers and staff. Therefore, we have taken the decision to suspend all flights until 3 pm (1400 GMT) on Wednesday 11th October," the British airport said in a statement issued early Wednesday morning.&nbsp;

"Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport at this time, as access remains severely restricted," it added.&nbsp;

In the aftermath of the incident, four firefighters and an airport employee were rushed to the hospital, as per the local ambulance service. Another person was treated on-site.&nbsp;

The blaze broke out at 8:47 pm (1947 GMT) in the airport's newly built car park.&nbsp;

"It was horrible, the noise was like popcorn," said Marilena Ligea Stan, from Romania, who had to wait 12 hours after landing from Bucharest to leave the airport.

Robert Saunders was on his way to the airport from Somerset in southwest England when he found out.

"Our first two fire appliances arrived on the scene just a shade under 10 minutes later to work alongside firefighters from Luton Airport Fire Service," said Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"On arrival, my officers were faced with a severe and rapidly spreading fire involving a large number of vehicles that ultimately spread to multiple floors and involved a partial collapse of the car park," he added.

In the midst of strained diplomatic ties between India and Canada, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said during a telephonic conversation with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau that he hopes to see a de-escalation of the row.

Downing Street released a statement saying that the UK PM spoke to Trudeau on Friday evening where he was updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India.

The two leaders concurred to stay in contact as Sunak affirmed the position of the United Kingdom of respect for the rule of law after Trudeau alleged the involvement of Indian intelligence agents in the murder of Sikh pro-Khalistan hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar.&nbsp;

"Prime Minister Trudeau updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India," read the Downing Street statement.&nbsp;

"The Prime Minister [Sunak] reaffirmed the UK's position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. He hoped to see a de-escalation in the situation and agreed to remain in contact with Prime Minister Trudeau on the next steps," it said.

The telephonic conversation between the two leaders comes in the wake of a statement made by Trudeau in the Canadian Parliament last month where he suggested that India might be linked to the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.&nbsp;

India has strongly rejected these claims while reiterating its adherence to the rule of law.&nbsp;

The conversation also comes a week after a group of assailants prevented Indian high commissioner to the United Kingdom Vikram Doraiswami from entering a gurdwara in Scotland.

Trevelyan said, "Concerned to see that the Indian High Commissioner @VDoraiswami was stopped from meeting with the Gurdwara Committee at the Gurdwara in Glasgow. The safety and security of foreign diplomats is of utmost importance and our places of worship in the UK must be open to all."

UK PM Rishi Sunak calls for de-escalation of India-Canada row during talks with Justin Trudeau

An Indian-origin man, who admitted to his intention to kill the late Queen Elizabeth II after he was arrested at Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow on Christmas Day 2021, was sentenced to nine years in prison by a UK court on Thursday (Oct 5).

Jaswant Singh Chail, 21, who claimed he wanted to "kill the queen" as a revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar, has been handed a "hybrid" sentence order taking into consideration his mental health issues.

He will serve the first part of his term in the high-security Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital and will be moved to prison when his mental health allows.

Sentencing judge Nicholas Hilliard at London's Old Bailey court ruled that Chail must be detained in Broadmoor's top security psychiatric hospital before being sent to prison "when he has received the treatment he needs".

The judge said the former supermarket worker had "lost touch with reality such that he had become psychotic" by the time he entered Windsor Castle but his responsibility for his offences was significant.

"He had conceived of killing the queen early in 2021 when he was not psychotic. He took steps to try and get closer to his target and learn useful skills when, again, he was not psychotic," the judge noted.

He concluded that Jaswant Chail had ultimately acted upon his "homicidal thoughts" and therefore posed a threat of "serious harm" to the public, which further compelled a custodial order.

The judge also said that Chail had been "informed by the fantasy world of Star Wars" and scaled the intentional foray bedecked as a Sith Lord, sporting an iron mask, armed with a loaded crossbow.

Chail also believed that he was conversing with an angel via an AI chatbot, Sarai, asking her to help decide if he should carry the attack or not.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan previously said that "in addition to that fixation with a real historic event, the defendant demonstrated a wider ideology focused on destroying old empires spilling over into fictional events such as Star Wars".

"He had made a video of himself stating his desire to harm the late Queen, which he sent to a group of contacts shortly before he was arrested. Further enquiries into Jaswant Chail uncovered further evidence of his planning and motives. Evidence recovered by officers showed that he harboured ill-feeling towards the British empire for its past treatment of Indian people," a Met Police statement noted.

Chail recorded a video before initiating the incident that he shared with his contacts, where he said, "I am sorry for what I have done and what I will do. I am going to attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, queen of the royal family."

"This is revenge for those who died in the 1919 massacre," he further said referring to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar where British colonial troops shot dead nearly 400 Sikhs.
